Can't beam/nfc to s4? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I had this problem the other day and thought maybe we needed the info shared in this forum too. Simple fix, just flip one of the devices upside down. The sensor in the s4 is different than the s3 and note2. The s3 is close enough that it works on it, but the note2 sensor is a little farther off, so you have to flip one of the devices to line the sensors up. Link to where I found the info below. At first I thought it was a problem with my rom......wrong.....sorry for doubting your work JB.....lol
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255926

I have no problem beaming to my friends s4... you just have to realize the s4 chip is in the battery in the s4 whereas its above the processors in the note2 turning it upside down works but its smarter to just lower the note 2 to where the top of the note 2 is at the half way point of the s4...

Note 2 or gs3 which is better and has more developers? Thx for input

Sent from my EVO using xda premium
You posted this in the Note II forum, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the majority will say the Note II is better...me first! The Note II is also newer and thus will have less development at the moment, but it will surely pick up.
Note 2
The difference between the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 are the Note 2 has a 5.5 inch screen and the S3 has a 4.8 inch screen. The Note 2 has a 1.6 GHz Quad Core processor and the S3 has a 1.4 GHz Dual Core (so the Note 2 is faster and can better multitask).

Overall size (implied by a larger screen) was somewhat of a concern to me, but I am wayyyyyyyyy past that after a few weeks now. Quad core is what really sold me on the Note II. Get the Note II and don't look back.

More importantly the bigger screen isn't the crappy pentile arrangement, even in the Sprint store side by side I was surprised how much better the N2 screen looked. Ofc, there was nothing there explaining what and why the n2 looked way better.

S3 was also released 6 months or so earlier. And has a head start.

Your choice will depend on what you want from your device?
I had the S3 prior to getting the Note 2 and loved it. Right now there Is more dev support on it. The Note 2 has more of what I was looking for. Bigger screen and s pen was the main factor for my choice. I do a lot of online reading and use the s pen for note taking. It would be nice if there were more choices on the dev side, but that will come with patience.
Which one Is better? Both great devices. the one that is better is the one that fits your needs the best.
Good luck.

Yes, my wife has the S3 with a screen protector on it as well and the screen looks so crappy next to my note 2.
I thought the waiter at olive Garden was going to steal my phone she went nuts over it and kept asking about it every time she came back to the table.

Talking about development, there is An AOSP rom up for the our device already In the development section
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
-Galaxy Note II Edition
Also the s3 has gotten a head start over the n2 in terms of development (being released quite a bit earlier). I chose the n2 because of the quad core, not only to future proof but because I want the best Lol:thumbup:

I traded in my Awesome S3 for a Note. I am glad I did, but there are tradeoffs.
Here's a month old guide which gives a detailed, and almost geeky enough for me, description of the differences:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_vs_galaxy_note_ii-review-830.php
I have a Tab 7 Plus and used it via the wifi on my Epic 4G and then S3. I won't do that anymore because the Note does most of what the Tab did almost as well and some of them better. Kindle Books, for example, are better. Reading "The Mongoliad" on the Note 2 is easier on the Note than either the S3 or the 7" Tab Plus. It's a good compromise between size and portability. The Tab got heavy after a while and the S3 made me turn pages more than I want to. Some work needs to be done on Amazon's side because I want the auto screen rotation to turn off via the app and not through system settings when I read ebooks.
S3 in my front pocket. The Note is ok in my front pocket, but I do feel it constraining me when going up steps and such.
To me the note 2 is slightly better. But i think the s3 mite be a better choice for the 0$ to $49.99 there being sold for this weekend vs the $250+ the note is selling for

Well I had no upgrade available because I wasted it on the evo lte.. uhg sorry that phone does not deserve to be called evo but anyways pick up a new in box note for 400$ on craigslist and the sg3 would have still cost 250-350$

Both are awesome devices... I had the S3 and loved it but for me bigger is better... I use my phone pretty much for everything and the larger screen is a must have for movies & YouTube... I'm a big guy so no issues with feel... The Note 2 is a can't miss device and the devs are starting to flock to it...

I have the S3 and I'm tired of the piss-poor WiFi and BT reception. I had my roommate test his WiFi at various places in our house with his N2 and it seems to have the same crap reception. I have confirmed this on about 6 different Samsung Android phones now. When compared side by side to the Evo 4G and Evo 3D, every Samsung phone is put to shame... blah. I will probably still switch to the N2 anywsys because of the CPU and screen. I hate pentile.

Wierd sPen issue, Read on as it may affect you too

So here's the weird issue. I have an AT&T galaxy note and I have put the GT and 7100 image on it.
so I went a T Mobile store, and I played around with their galaxy note 2 on display. I pulled out my spen. And started writing on the display device. now I grabbed the spen from the display note to, and started writing on my own note and it doesn't work. So what gives.
so the SPen from the display note 2 does not work on my note but my sPen from my note works on the display note on T Mobile.
So what you're saying is that your sPen works, but the display model's sPen doesn't. ok?
Did the display model's sPen work on the display phone?
Does the sPen perhaps only work when there's not an sPen inside the device?
The sPen they use for display models around me are all fake ones. The reason I know is the little white tip is not movable basically a display model of an sPen.
OP You sure you didn't have your S-Pen inside your phone when you tried to write with the other one? there's some kind of power saving thing that turns off the Wacom digitizer when the pen is holstered.
The spen they had was what it come with the phone there was no tether. The display's sPen works on the display Note 2 but not mine.
While mine works on both my device and the display device.

Am I missing something? Your S-Pen works with your device and the T-Mobile floor model. The S-Pen from the floor model doesn't work with your device. Why do you (or should we) care as long as your S-Pen works? I have five S-Pens between my N2 and Note 10.1; all work equally well on either device. I don't care if an S-Pen I don't own or use works on my devices.
Recently I lost my spen so..I called Samsung and spoke to customer service and found out that the spens are different and function differently with each device (verizon spen wont work with att device)..and vice versa...Verizon spen has different functionality ?..I dont get it

This was the answer to the problem. There is a setting for the spen that needs to be unchecked so that you can can write on the screen even if an spen is in the silo.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk
For all the people here, the S pen is not just an ordinary capacitive stylus, rather its hardware is properly configured and hardcoded to work with the phone only. If you think you have an alternate truth, then prove it.

[Q] Upgrading to this or S4?

So my mom lost her E4GT and I'm due for an upgrade super soon. I'll be passing along my S3 to her and either getting a Note 2 or the S4.
I've done some research on both but would like to hear what you guys have to say without any influence from my already formulated opinions.
I'm with Sprint, the international version and the Nexus 4 are out of the question.
Should I get the Note now or wait a few weeks for the S4?
P.S. Don't worry about my mom, she'll have a Palm Pre and wont be phoneless.
S4 dude.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Meh, the s4 is merely a s3s with miniscule improvements, the note 2 is still more of an upgrade then the s4 imho. Samsung note line of phones stole all the fame and now its like the galaxy s phones are having a tough time catching up lol
Bring on the note 3 already!

It depends on whether u want more processing power (s4) or a bigger screen (note 2).
Sent from my Xperia Ray using xda app-developers app
If you are into photo retouching and artistic stuff go with the Note II. The S-Pen is worth gold! Whatever you do, I would say wait for battery tests on the S4 before you buy. And if you do buy either go for at LEAST the 32gb versions.
I have the note2 and my wife had the S3 and is getting the S4 she wants something in between the note2 and S3 and witch makes the S4 perfect for her. When she gets it ill probably steal it from her for a day or two though

note 2 i love the note 2 i loved the s3 but for some reason i couldn't downsize screens even. plus the s pen is amazing and well be getting the features that the s4 will have so why not get the note 2?
I would get the Note2 bigger screen spen is amazing. Plus like everyone keeps saying we'll have the software soon on are note2 from thw S4 anyway. Yes the S4 has a 1080p display but to me thats not worth not getting the Note2 because it already has most of what the S4 has

More comfortable?

So the Samsung guy paid a visit and brought the AT&T version of the S4 with him...my question is: Is this better than our Note 2? I don't mean internally or as far as screen. It does everything the Note can do and more without need of a stylus AND has Multi-Window, all in a smaller package. Is this the ultimate device in terms of power AND comfort? I, like many, have that nagging obsession of buying everything that comes out...so I will get it. How about you? Would u switch because of the S4's much smaller size?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
The main reason I bought the note was the size. Would never get another phone simple for a smaller size.
So anything below 5.5" is too small? My S3 feels tiny in my hand after using my Note and the fact that everything is smaller on the screen doesn't help either. I wonder how much of a difference it'll be between the Note screen and S4 in everyday use.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I would stay with the note, mostly because I'm used to it now lol. But I would go to the s4 mostly because of 4.2.2 on it

Note 2 V's S4

Hey everyone
anyone any thoughts on this? I have a note 2 and I love it. I am well used to the size and to be honest I don't think I can go to the S4's 5" screen.
Am I or will I be missing out on anything that the S4 has or will the note 2 get all the features in an update.
IR Blaster is the only major thing you're missing out on IMO.
And lte possibly.
Sent from my GT-N7100
the IR blaster as aforementioned and the extra sensors if you care for such
The ir blaster would be a handy little thing to have but I don't feel it would outweigh the extra half inch of real estate.
Any note 2 owners switching to the s4?
I can't even imagine switching from note 2 to S4. In fact I'll be missing out on even more useful options. I really hate how the new layout of the S4's settings menu, it looks outdated and I hope they change that before 4.2.2 is released on the note 2.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Note 2 is way too good , no chance of replacing it with S4 .......Will wait for Note 3 & then decide on replacement.....As of now NOTE 2 ROCKS !!
If the Note 3 is more like the s4 than the Note 2, then I won't bother to upgrade.

1. Best battery ever on a Samsung smart phone - This is very important to me when I am out and have no access to charging , secondly I like to check my social networking media and love to have lot of widgets and live wallpaper - Try this on a S4 and you will know how bad the battery life is on S4.
2. How can you ever Trade a S-pens capabilities for a S4 ????
3. Instal a customer Kernel and overclock your Note2 to beat S4 performance.
- IR beamer !!! really - are you going to use it ????
- I am still not utilizing 100% of the sensor and motion control on Note 2 , S4 - Iam not sure if will use them all even though they are quite innovative.
And has anyone any idea when it will get some of the features?
The next probable update would be 4.2.2. Date unknown.
Note2 is best.. no need to replace that with s4.. wait for note3 and change it with note3..
