Any good oc kernels for this device? - Sprint LG Optimus G

I want to know if there is a good (reliable) OC Kernel for this device that can take it up to past 2100. If there is, can I flash it on a stock flashed rooted rom (ZVB)?

I haven't seen one. Why would you want or need to overclock this phone anyway?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium

Overclocking this phone any more than stock is unnecessary and will make it heat up that much more and faster. Hence why there isn't one at all.

The only kernel we have for stock, and it goes to 1.8 is this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38910863
If you read that thread, you'll find that this is as high as we can get. And its an awesome kernel!

I've always been a fan of OCing, but with quad-core processors, it just isn't neccesary anymore. OCing was originally a viable option because the device wasn't very fast; lags and other issues occurred because the device was trying to do things that the processor had trouble keeping up with. This is no longer the case; everybody has a quad-core device these days, it seems. There is more than enough power and speed to go around now, and OCing just puts unneccesary stress on the device. My penny and a half, for what its worth.

On my way to check it out right now....will you please humor my ignorance on the matter and educate me on why this device can't be made to go any higher. Do you mean , "for now" or ever?

For now at least. Who knows what the future will bring.
Evolutionmod is working on the Sprint version, and Mysteryemotionz is working the ATT version. The 2 are working together to give us all the benefits they can.
If I remember right, it's a heat and stability issue as to why we can't go any higher.
But then as BMP777 said...theres really no need for us to OC anymore. Other than bragging rights.

I totally understand about the heat issue. I hate it when it gets overheated and shuts down for an undetermined amount of time. Is there a remedy for that. I think it would be better if the phone didn't have that glass on the back, but thats just my opinion. I'm thinking about taking it off an replacing it with something else. I saw a thin piece of carbon fiber sheet that might work and look cool as hell.

Well... there's a chance you can take that will stop it from shutting down. Possibly fry your phone. I or the OP of that thread aren't responsible though. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42684002

Well, that was a handy little post. Thanks. I have another idea about the over heating but I need some technical advice from people who really "know" phones. If I remove the back glass and replace it with aluminum, will that aluminum mess-up the reception at all?

Android System Battery life

Ok so Im posting in the DEV section because this only happen with AOSP Roms what the heck is the deal with the High Android System usage I have confirmed this issue doesnt happen until you have use the phone to make or receive calls. EVERY single GB AOSP ROM I try to love has this issue. I have seen that rolling back your PRI will work..ok then my question is why dont you see this in Sense ROMs. I would love to know the REASON this is happening so any Devs that have been seeing this can you enlighten me/us??

Tried many kernels, every flavor of AOSP Roms, rolled back the PRI and NV no change. Its painfully obvious nobody really knowns a dam thing for FACT as to why this happens. Oh well back to Sense Roms till its figured out.

You might have your governor set to performance or something. Try flashing a custom kernal and set your governor to smartass with a min of 245 and a max of 960 or something similar like that. I was getting the same result you're properly getting where it seem like my system was over heating and draining my battery like crazy and this worked like a charm! Also, go to settings/accounts & sync/ and uncheck background data because that also drains your battery like crazy too!
Oh and it this helps, I'm running CM7 RC4 with Tiamat's 3.3.4 SBC kernal
Hope this has helped and don't let the idiots bother you dude!
I have been working with Barnicles on this very same issue . Some phones suffer from it others dont . Example I just finished talking to my mom for 30 mins . My "Android System" usage is now sitting at 85% , voice calls at 12% , cell Standby at 2% , Wifi at 2% and phone idle at 2% . Him and I believe it is something in the settings of GB that either records it incorrectly or is relabeling the usage incorrectly . I have tried it all myself from upgrading my pri to 1.90 , downgrading to 1.77 . I have tried different kernels and had no effect . I have tried turning off everything and disabling all apps no effect . We are still working on it but I dont have alot of expierence with reading and writting script , so hes mostly on that end while Im on this end trying different combinations of things to see if I can reduce it if not eliminate it . So far it seems to be pointing in the direction of either the frame work or the actual scripting . Like I said its a work in progress . Also i have tried almost all of the GB roms out there personally and they all suffer from this same issue . It makes me believe it is indeed part of the coding somewhere .

I have checked out the Nexus S forums . Most seem to complain of Display and cell stand by being the major drains on battery life . None have really complained of high android system usage . Our issue here in the HTC EVO realm seems to be its more of a cosmetic issue . Battery life doesnt seem to be impacted by it . Its still odd I can have the phone , text , surf the web , facebook and everything but when I make a phone call Android system skyrockets to the top . Maybe initially it isnt registering Android system usage at first and for some reason a call being made triggers it to appear . Not sure just been guessing at this

Continuum Lagfix

While poking and prodding around I found this one click ex2 lagfix for the I9000 and also the Fascinate.. I tried it and it works for our Continuum's also.
Before Lagfix
Quadrant - 1028
After Lagfix
Quadrant - 1770
Antutu Benchmark - 3140
I did not have a chance to test Antutu before I did the lagfix.
Either way here is the link to the file. Make sure you have root, Sammy USB Drivers, ADB, and the latest version of Busybox installed. Turn on USB Debugging and plug your phone into your computer. Unzip the file and double click on 'Lagfixme.bat'.
Follow the onscreen instructions.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK I AM NOT LIABLE!

Glad it's almost 5:00pm. My phone is totally hosed after running this. Won't boot at all. Hangs for a long time at "Verizon Wireless" bootanimation then goes to black screen. Vibrating incessantly as if it's constantly fc'ing something. I figure I should be able to flash from Odin and start fresh.

Okay EXT2 is scary, how about EXT4?
You can't afford for your things to get corrupted? Weirdo. Real world performance between EXT4 and EXT2 is barely noticeable if at all, for the everyman this is probably your best bet.

As for the memory issues, the default for the Continuum is much higher than many of the other phones. I put together a little "How To" specifically for the Continuum. Just be careful, because I have seen issues with background apps, that I want to keep running, closed by Android. You really have to play with the numbers to see what works best for you. If anyone wants help with this, let me know.

It's in my OP here: FIXED! - Froyo ROM "closing" the background apps.
Keep in mind YMMV, I would adjust the settings using AMM (Auto Memory Manager) from the market. Because of the aforementioned problems (yes zipalign helped a little bit), and all the friggin' apps I installed and use, I have actually gone back to the default memory settings. I'll start playing with them again starting this weekend. As a System Administrator, I just can't leave well enough alone... My wife doesn't like it when I mess with my phone because I grumble so much when the thing hoses up... It's my fault, I know... But...

Rooting...good idea or bad??

So im thinkin to root my phone what u guys think should I?? What are the perks of doin it as well??
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Rooting is up to u man. If u want to do it. As far asks what u get it depends on what u flash. If u just want root then u have access to your /system partition. Use apps that require root permission. With a custom recovery U can flash custom kernels for overclock and undervolt purpose. You can flash custom ROMs.

I would say no right now, to be honest.
I had a ton of troubles finding the right downloads to get it rooted. In the end, I rooted and installed Starburst and wasn't really impressed; I feel like there was nothing to even be able to edit. It was like running the stock ROM with a new lockscreen.
I'd hold off until development increases on this device. I'm probably going to unroot mine.
rooting is lots of fun, IF you know what the hell you are doing, BEFORE you start the process
Most problems that people have come from NOT READING and learning about it before they do it..
Just like anything else in life, if you don't read about it, and learn about it BEFORE you decide to do it, you will have problems.
It just blows my mind how many people get a phone, and root it and start flashing stuff without having any idea what they are doing, and then freak out when some thing goes wrong, and post frantic "please help me" stuff all over the internet..
Take the time to learn about it BEFORE you do it, and ask your questions BEFORE you start messing with your phone..If you won't do that, can't do that, or aren't smart enough to understand what you are reading, then don't root; this is a fantastic phone even if you never root it..
I was pessimistic aswell and took the plunge last night. Running Starburst its not the greatest but MUCH better than stock. Battery life is ludicrous. And much more fluid and responsive... My main reason was battery life and oh boy dose it help!

THE root method will be the same.
Yeah, I just unrooted, actually.
I had a lot of fun going from ROM to ROM on my EVO4G, but right now there's just not enough out there for me to run away from the stock ROM. Once development really gets going, and maybe once Cyanogen hops on board with something legit, I'll root again.
..plus, I'm probably going to have to turn this phone in, so I had to unroot. I'm having this weird battery issue where it doesn't charge while the phone is on (well, it charges, but suppppppper slow and the phone gets hot as hell)
Speaking of that, if anyone reads this, any ideas on if I'll be able to get a brand new phone? I had to turn in my Evo once or twice, and they gave me a refurb both times. Screw that, I paid like $450 for this phone only 3ish weeks ago. There's no way I'll take a refurb.

I agree its totally up to the person but not like rooting and then unrooting is you difficult.... Hey may favorite line I have read in xda is "It aint yours till you root it" - words to live by....lol
Rooting is pretty easy on this phone, but I know there are not a lot of Devs compared to like the Evo 3d. The Devs we do have are all like pros at developing though, so they will be able to update and bring new things frequently. I rooted on Starburst's rom and I love it, because it's so Stock that it seems like its still and E4GT, but so different that I know its more smooth.
So im sewing u guys all like this starburst rom....I think I will wait lil bit longer to root when more roms comes out

Hi all
Just got an Inc 2. why else would I be posting here ,,,, anyhow I gotta have root mainly just to remove bloat, really undecided on which way though, HTC unlock or a full S off through the downgrade revolutionary method, I'm not realy a flashaholic, I would like to be able to use set CPU or the likes, for battery savings and maybe a little overclocking, phone seems pretty responsive if you ask me just coming from an Eris but I haven't loaded any apps on it yet either, heck I haven't even activated it yet (guess it's a little hard to let Ginger go ) I'd post a screen shot of her but she's a little shy.
So what's everyone thoughts on this if you had just recieved a brand new Incredible 2, with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, 2.6.35.9 kernel; and now the news of Official ICS update soon to be released which way would you go to root HTC or S off?
Can you overclock/undervolt stock kernel?
Is it possible to flash a different kernel?
Any and all input on this will be greatly appriciated, Thanks In Advance

You're gonna wanna downgrade and s-off. It's easier to flash ROMs, also you can flash radios that way. It's a slightly longer process to do so, but its worth not spending extra time when flashing ROMs. Mainly because you have to flash the kernel in fastboot if you use HTC unlock.

Thanks for your quick response, thats just it I'm not realy a flashaholic and if I see a rom that I would like to flash, a little extra work wouldn't bother me stability speed and no issues have presedence for me, not worried about look at what I got, just overall balanced goodness

It doesn't. It downgrades the hboot version. Now, if you s-off, you can flash any radio you wish. The recommended one is either the latest .1111 or .0722.

Yes I have the latest.1111 with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, kernel 2.6.35.9, it downgrades more than just the hboot doesn't it? I thought it downgraded the whole OS.
It will put you back to 2.2 or 2.3 I think but it does not affect radio. You van then flaws one of the rooms based off the latest stock update ( what you have) if that's what you want. Also, you can't oc stock kernel, use dresdills 21. Also if u use the HTC method you are guaranteed void warranty cause they know what you done. If you use other method you can revert to completely stock if you need too and they will never know if you need to because of hardware issues. Charging ports have been known to go bad so I would keep that in mind...

Yes I've heard about that kernel, I'm pretty sure that once you root they know it cause all there tracking, or most of there tracking software goes offline for them, and they know that the only reason, for the most part, that the phone dissapeared is root. I thought htc unlock still gave you a warranty although more limitted. And yes I learned from the Eris when the phone is on the charger be extra extra carefull with it, even if it meens don't touch it.
Root doesn't take out anything, and I'm not sure what tracking your referring to anyways. The only way anything would be took out is if you do it, or the rom you install does. If they know you done it, and you think it may be more limited, that's just a way of saying now we have a reason to deny you anytime we feel like it. But if your set on that, do it, not gonna argue its your phone could care less, you wanted opinions you got it, either way good luck...

I never said that root in and of itself took out anything, it's the stuff we take out once we root. Your not sure what tracking I'm referring to, Look up Carrier IQ .
I charged this phone turned it on bypassed activation shut off the networks just to play around with it and it was still reporting network traffic, How, Why?
This phone has the ability to get past the switch thats thrown when you shut off your data connections. I did just activate the phone, I had forgot to turn data back on before doing so, but it didn't matter; after phone booted up and was settling in I saw the 3g icon pop up in the status bar, thats what reminded me, [I thought I shut that off] and sure enough it was still off, yet it still sent data, but where to? I'm not set on anything yet, yes I'm trying to get many opinions and I thank you for your input this phones been out for a while now and many things have changed since it was first released, like ICS, and htc unlock of the hboot. Much of the activity about rooting this phone is a year or more old and with the deals and such that are being thrown around now to move the remaning stock off shelves there will be ( I'm sure ) many newcomers to the phone and this forum so an updated collection of thoughts on this I figured would be welcome especially if there was some input from the veterans of this phone. And again thank you

I know that that's what they had said Officially But I OFFICIALLY have my doubts . Have you ever checked it out with the app?

as a matter of fact yes i have, our stock rom 5.xx is clean
the ports may or may not have it (depending if it was cleaned out or not by individual dev) but since its not running on the phone/carrier it was meant to, it wouldnt properly function
honestly i never really cared that much, i think the ciq drama was blown out of proportion

I'm glad to hear that.
Blown out of proportion? Not really, Think about it you send someone a text messg and CIQ knew what the text said BEFORE your intended recipient even recieved it,....... before you even sent it!

idk, doesnt really affect me...but the Sprint guys were all up in arms about it...mabye if i had a phone that it was an issue on id care more
Anyways, I flashed a custom ROM and CIQ would be gone anyways. I think nowadays we have to realize that we are going to always be tracked in some way.

To root, or not to root. Solos' Long journey to finding his fate.

Yeah pretty much sums it up. I rooted my first note 2 everything was fine then all of a sudden i installed a kernel and it would take 12 hours to charge to full from fulll empty. and about 15 min to even turn on. ever since then i cracked the screen and got a replacement. kinda liking it stock. but kinda wana root it again. only thing stopping me is that i dont want anything to happen to this phone. I DUNNO WHAT TO DO. any suggestions?
I don't understand why you people think root access on a phone is some big mystical journey that must be deeply considered before undertaking on ' the path' . It's one click and it's done. Another click and it's gone. What's the big deal.
Please close this thread. Man. What in the world....
Edit. In fact you need an I phone so that you don't have to ponder these 'monumental' decisions anymore....pfft. please. I think this is a troll.

Its just i messed up my phone last time "i think" unless it was just a manufacturers defect. just wanted to know any tips people might have so it might not happen again. No need to be a douchebag.

Whether or not you should root your phone is completely up to you. If you like stock, leave it stock. You don't have to go around flashing new kernels or ROMs if you're satisfied with stock. I rooted it because I wanted tethering and unlimited multiwindows... I have the stock kernel and stock ROM but deodexed with a few mods that I like. There are a ton of awesome ROMs out there but I'm not trying to win a popularity/nerd contest as to who can make the most changes to their phones. Make your phone the way you want it and what you want out of it.
Pretty much what i'm saying is are you happy with your phone right now? what would you change about it and is it possible to do this easily?
I thought about rooting also, but I'm happy with it stock and have no issues what so ever. This is the first and only phone I've not rooted. There's always a downside to rooting, whether it be updating, bugs, whatever. I'm enjoying my phone as is with apps I don't like simply disabled.

ONLY ROOT!
Hands Down. You Have To Root.
AOKP, CMX.1, AOSP LiquidSmooth Are All Available Now.
Good Luck.
It's just that you're thread doesn't say anything. I mean it's like asking if the sky is light blue or kinda blue. I mean you could have at least had a halfway good question....bah I'm not even going any further. I quit

I personally don't see enough evidence for trolling but I think it was the literary license you took with "Solos' Long journey to finding his fate" that raised the troll alert for some. Had you merely titled it "To root, or not to root" you may have had less suspicions (but who am I to tell you how to express yourself.. some of us tend to be more or less tolerant than others & I found value in your thread)..
You may want to check out my thread as I too was exploring the "to root, or not root" debate given how remarkable the Note2 is. As I mentioned there I honestly am very happy with the all the customization available in Go Launcher over stock TW & so far satisfied with the battery life which prompted the need debate but I also think I should be able to tether wirelessly with my data allotment on occasion & check out Titanium backup & all Avast options that require root so I will likely root-update this weekend as I want zero downtime during the week. I do appreciate the stability I'm currently experiencing so if that becomes compromised I am trusting posters here that its full unroot option would enable easy reversibility. I also currently have Monthly4G™ Handset Protection but hopefully I won't ever have to use it. -Peace
