[Q] Newbie. Please HELP!!! - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am really new to this kind of things.
First. I have a Sony Xperia Arc S Lt18i running in Official Gingerbread.
My phone is not rooted and also bootloader is still locked but upon checking it can be unlock.
I really wanted to install these custom ROMS available in this website but I really don't know what to do.
So many terminologies that I can't understand what they means.
I really wanted to install this specific custom rom " Xperia Z Jelly Bean ver3 ".
Can you guys help me?
What are the steps? Do I need to root my phone first before installing this? also do I need to unlock the bootloader to install this?
Sorry for my english.
Please be nice to me. Thank you.

Then learn not to become one by reading the stickies and following the instructions...
You need to unlock bootloader first by going to unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com.
Follow the instructions on the website.
You will have unlocked bootloader if done correctly.
Place the ROM zip onto your sdcard first before you forget.
Flash a kernel with CWM recovery on it using the same fastboot drivers when unlocking bootloader.
Once done flashing kernel, boot to CWM by pressing Vol Down button at boot(when you see kernel screen)
Go to install zip, select zip and choose ROM zip. Let it install the ROM, which takes a few minutes.
Wipe data, cache partition and dalvik cache.
Reboot phone, you should see the ROM booting up.
Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions.

[Q] I am new. I need help

I am new to this development thing. I need to understand a few things:
1: Unlock bootloader
2: Installing Custom Rom
3: Flashing stuff
1: I always search the web but i cant find an answer. Will unlocking my Xperia Arc S void my warrenty? If so is there a way to restore warranty by "Locking" my bootloader again?
2: I always wanted to install custom roms. I thought it would be easy like how i install roms on my Xperia X10 Mini Pro. Turns out its complicated. Flash here, flash there. I thought i just need to use CWM5 to install the .zip file. The Rom i want to install is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393738 (For My Arc S)
3: Flashing kernels. I see that in order to install the above ROM i need to flash DoomLord Kernels? But how? Im confused. Must i need to unlock my bootloader. I already have CWM5 on my Arc S.
Please reply to my question. I am new so if my thread has alreay been posted by someone i am truely sorry.
Thanks,
LeParkour012
Good morning....
1. Every answer your looking for is in the forum on XDA all of the answers
2. It is EASY you just need to read a bit more. CMW works to some extent on Xperia Arc...
3. You definitely need to have your BOOTLOADER unlocked to flash the kernel and custom rom
4. Any modification you do to the phone can void your warranty... it's AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Cheers.
???
Thanks. I finally understand it. May i ask? How is it to flash the rom i linked? Flash the kernels? Do i need the ADB thing?
I wouldn't especially flash that ROM it's in it's REALLY EARLY times (ALPHA). I'd consider just using stock for the moment until the ROM reaches it's beta phase. But that just my own opinion on the subject.
I wouldn't what is required for you to FLASH that specific ROM. My own bootloader can't be unlocked until I do a TEST POINT on it to get it unlocked. I'm actually quite happy with the Stock 2.3.4 .62 ROOTED firmware with no bloatware on it. Very fast and I can say I have a constant free 125mb of RAM available.
Most of my applications are installed to the SDcard.
Cheers.
Oh okay! Thanks for your help. I was actually scared of flashing the rom but now since you told me about the ALPHA thing i won't be flashing it. Thanks again!
How to Flash a new Kernel (DoomKernel)
Hello,
sorry for my possibly stupid question.
I´ve rootet my ARC S and want to install an new/other Kernel.
My favorite is the DooMKernel. Comes there a CWM-Version with the Kernel? And if yes, how to reach the Recovery-Menu. Has the DooM-Kernel switches for Wlan, Bluetooth, GPS, Date,.. in the Notification Bar?
I´m sorry i don´t find any step by step tutorial to install an other Kernel.
I think i have to put the Mobile in the Fastboot Mode. An then flash the Kernel via PC connection. But which File i had to choose?
In the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172885 thread i found the
ARC-DooMKernel-v18-FIX1-lower_boot.img file. Is this the right one? Should I rename the File? And whats about the modules? Is this the right one? MODULES for DooMKernel (v15 onwards), Rename?
Sorry for my Noob questions and my poor english.
Best regards
Ossi

here is a list of ROMs for your phone be sure you have Xperia Arc S not other phone never flash a ROM that is not for your phone because you can cause hardware damage to your phone
i cant install a custom rom, cause my bootloader is locked.
edit.:
can i install arconium (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565475) cause it only requries a "stock kernel with CWM???
A unlocked bootloader is only usefull to install other kernels, but because this rom is compatible with a stock rom, i think i dont have to unlock the bootloader, right? :cyclops:

It seems Acronium requires an unlocked bootloader
for your first flash I recommend to install a stock-based ROM just leave bootloader as it is if you just wanna do this way then use a laptop when flashing /unlocking bootloader cause every failure in bootloader results in a dead-phone then only service tools save your phone -your phone is bricked
so search in that list for a ROM that is stock-based choose one with good howto instructions

Can you recommend me a fast rom which is working with a locked bootloader, cause i dont want to risk to install a rom, which is not compatible with my phone, and then my phone is broken ..
So if something goes wrong it is NOT possible to restore with CWM recovery?
here some information about my phone:
baseband-version: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028G-72
Kernel-version: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
android: 4.0.4

First of all don't panic!
Grab any .55 firmware and install it with FlashTool, when installation is finished don't turn on the phone, disconnect it and hold Volume UP button so it boots in Fastboot mode, then in FlashTool click FLASH then select fastboot and press Flash Kernel > flash this one (Download) When it's over just turn on your device as normal and you will have .55 with Root & Recovery. Good Luck
BEFORE INSTALLING KERNEL UNRAR THE PACKAGE YOU NEED ONLY .elf File.
Just Select elite.elf when choosing kernel to flash.
Attached KERNEL is by RaymanFX.
Thank your for the quick answer.
Do i first need to unlock my bootloarder?
Which firmwares can i install with that kernel?

Hello @schpongo,
I'd Certainly Help You Out.
First of AlL, What You Need Is
1. Unlocked Bootloader - http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
2. Rooted Device - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133063
3. Installing CWM Recovery. I prefer RecoverX - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
And As My Friend In Above Post Said. Do Not Panic. It Takes Patience. And lots of waiting time.
Till one process is complete do not try to unplug or close anything. Its easy when you do things very calmly.
Ok Now for Available ROMS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950706
If you require suggestions regarding flashing roms I'd advice you to start with TEAM FXP ROMS - Cyanogen Mod 10

I Solved the Problem partly by using the flash tool to get back the stock os.
You can use the Flash tool to flash the boot.img file in the phone. It's really simple then manually doing it. I am on phone so can not provide you the link. Please use the search button on how to flash boot. Img using flash tool. Looping in boot is because the boot.img was not flashed properly. Use the flash tool to do it. I too had the same problem when I first flashed but soon found out the problem. Reply back if everything works..

CM 10 is a really good Rom with Stable recovery.
You can even download other ROMS of Build NOZOMI - (Code Name For Xperia S) eg Slim Bean build 5 Nozomi JB 4.2.2
And directly flash it from CWM recovery.

Yes, Unfortunately For This Purpose There is A Need for a little knowledge of Titanium Back Up.
It Will Bring All Your Settings Messages And Apps Back Without Any Modifications. Or loosing it.
The Reason : Every Time You Flash A New Rom
You Always ,
1 Whip Cache Partition
2 Cache /data /sysytem
3 Dalvik Cache
This Removes All The Apps.

Error with flash

Hi all, I have a serious problem, I was following a tutorial to install CM on my ZL. Anyone know how I could fix the problem. From already thank you very much, I hope you can help me. And forgive me for my poor English.

You need a unlocked bootloader to do custom roms however there are custom roms for locked bootloaders too.
Sorry, but I do not understand what I said apparently what happened is that the Xperia download a recovery and install Z, instead of one of the Xperia ZL. After restarting the phone, the phone did not return to start. Sorry for my English but is very poor.
Anyone know what I should do?

The problem is not that I can not install because of the bootloader, but that installing the recovery that was not the cell does not start, it is not detected by the FlashBot or the PC.
For AOSP roms like CyanogenMod you need an unlocked bootloader.
Locked bootloader works only for stock kernel based roms.
If your phone is already rooted and BL unlocked, download CyanogenMod http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=odin
Extract the boot.img from that .zip-file and flash it via fastboot.
You'll need fastboot drivers installed to work! (--> http://www37.zippyshare.com/v/40599174/file.html)

[Solved] Bootloop after booloader unlock

Hi everyone!
So after unlocking my bootloader following Sony's guide, I restarted the phone but it got stuck in the bootanimation. The good news is that I had flashed CWM, the bad news is that the phone still gets stuck on the boot animation even With the Official CyanogenMod 11...
I really don't know what I must do and I can't find something concrete about my problem.
The bootloader can be unlocked, I've tested (with the code) before attempting anything. I have also the 4.3 update and followed a guide. I did flash the boot.img via fastboot. That's it. And the Xperia M I'm owning is a C1905.
I hope you people can help me, thanks in advance !
This happened to me the other day. Just reflash the 4.3 with flashtool, it will fix the bootloop. After that you can do whatever you want. Here is a link to download the stuff you need:
http://xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/40-sony-xperia-m-c1905
Cheers
First of all use questions and troubleshooting section... I have to report the thread to be moved.
-
Second of all you do not have any problem.
The point is that you unlocked the bootloader while you have a rooted modified rom, right?
So after unlocking it do a factory reset, and due to modified system partition you are stuck on boot screen.
The solution is very simple, use flash tool and flash android 4.3 tft.
Then start your phone and make sure it boot up at least one time on stock firmware before starting with cm11 flash procedures.
Good-luck.
