Okay, so as we all know, there is still a semi-persistent bug with the Notifications sound+vib on the FCxx builds. Gladly, its working better than it used to, but it does go out sometime, and I have been resorting to rebooting the phone to get it back up.
Clearly, thats not a good solution. So after I started paying attention to what was causing it, I've been working harder at finding the root cause and solution to this problem.
Here is my list (from my experiences) of what has been causing the notifications to stop:
1) Putting the phone into silent/vibrate mode and then back to sound
2) Touching the screen while the phone is unlocked while simultaneously receiving a text (thus causing it to silence the notification)
My solutions:
1) Reboot (this sucks tho)
2) Go into the Phones task manager, clear ram, then call yourself.
I've noticed that if you call yourself, and let it ring AND vibrate, it brings the notifications back. For some reason, it doesn't work 100% of the time for me, but it does work like 95%, which is a good start to figuring this out.
Any help and tests from you guys would be most appreciated. Maybe we can help the devs in finding the cause of this bug so they can stomp the **** out of it. Thanks!
My notifications always seemed to stop working after making or receiving a phone call. Not sure about the other causes. I'm on FC 18 now with no issues so far.

It's a bug for touchwiz based ics roms. Anything aosp based like cm9, aokp, and code name won't have the problem. It's odd for them to not fix this bug throughout their many leaks.

I can testify that the issue is/was in AOSP roms. Had it on AOKP and Codename... Havent seen it yet on Codename nightly however.

There's something strange about the notification sound bug..after a phone call sounds are gone, clearing the ram brings them back.. The weirder part is if I receive a text during a call I can hear the notification during a call..I'm not a Dev so I'm clueless but maybe that info can point someone in the right direction

Well I updated because I was thinking it was going to save some battery life, maybe a bit fast (Lets be honest, I may of had a little chubby thinking it was jelly bean, blah so disappointed)
Anyhoo the 2 days that I have had the update Iv noticed worse battery life and for the first little bit it was LAAAGGYY. I called 2 of my other buddies who advised that they did not notice anything laggy but did notice battery life was way worse.
Anyone else?
Brad
Brutal battery life over here.

No complaints thus far. All bloatware removed and unnecessary widgets frozen using TB.

I guess I shoulda been more specific. So before the update I was getting a full 13+ hours with normal use. Now I will be lucky to get 8 hours. I actually had to buy a usb charger...I never owned one before this.
I could try rooting, removing and stopping some programs to see if that helps, it's just weird how I lost that much batt. I wonder what changed.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
use can freeze most apps without root/TB in the app manager in settings. Just click the app force stop and freeze. Some may need to have the update uninstalled before freeze options shows up.
Yeah, my battery life is much worse now, need to charge everyday rather than every 1.5 days..
I do notice lag as well. Need to clear my recent apps much more frequently.
Seriously, for me, the only advantage for updating was enabling the Allshare Cast option..

yaaay more issues for me

We need more details than "its freezing"
what are you doing when its freezing? How many apps do you have open, what kind of apps? what sorts of switches do you have on ?(wifi, gps, bluetooth,...), etc etc etc
more details
and also your definition of freezing.
If the phone is brand new, and is "freezing" and you have to pull the battery out to fix it and all during non intensive and few things, exchange it - its faulty
Just doing random things, I'm anal about to much background stuff so it's always clean. And I have my brightness close to 100, when I put it lto sleep and wake it up its so dim and I need to tap the brightness seek bar to get it back up

Sounds like an app you downloaded may be messing with your brightness settings.
Also, have you updated to the latest over the air update from rogers?

Ya, running 4.0.4. I did a battery pull and let it die. I've been good so far. The brightness deal is pissing me off. Maybe light flow?

I would go one but one with apps you think are suspect. Uninstall one by one until you find the culprit.
I dont have the same issue as you, although I usually keep my phone at 0 brightness

From what I've read and heard there are some bugs with the SIII and light flow. I'd recommend uninstalling it, rebooting and seeing if that fixes your problem. I along with other SIII owners had issues with it when I had it so I uninstalled it until the issues are fixed.

Looks like you got a wakelock, use better battery stats to see what's causing it. That almost solid blue bar in your 2nd screen shot shows way more awake time than what your screen on time is, awake almost 80% or so of your total uptime
I like to break stuff!
I'll give it a try and post back.
Thanks!

Could Google now location services, such as time to work cards, be causing pipe battery life?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
All that maps stuff will kill your battery, especially if you're inside where gps can't lock fast. I use autostarts to force maps to stay off unless I open them. And yes cards in google now do hit battery pretty hard as well.

Everybody is over looking Mediaserver skyrocketing to the top of the list since this MA7 update. I'm also experiencing a drop in battery. Mediaserver is the cause and u can't seem to find a fix :banghead:

Yes indeed.
The Google location services is a big user as well, but to turn it off or prevent it's autostart would hinder Google now, at least I would think so.
Good point on the media server. The battery life was better before this update, and I'm sure Google was still hogging battery life. So media server seems to be the problem... Possible.
Could one possible freeze certain apps to eliminate the drain from the media server?

Mediaserver drains battery fiercely due to a bad image file or video file......it keeps trying to read the file. The only fix that I found was to backup your sd card reformat it then add a folder at a time to make sure it doesnt get stuck scanning.

I've found that it is only the network based locating that causes this particular wakelock madness. Turn off network based location and maps behaves fine... Shame really as Google Now is coded to be broken unless Google knows what network your connected to.

I doubt it's any of my files. It never was a problem on LJC. And even now the problem is random. Comes and goes on different boots. I'm thinking maybe Samsung accounts might have to do something with it. A few days ago I noticed it updated a Samsung push service app on its own. In my head that sounds about the same time my problem started.

Ive had the same thing happen twice.....both times after I did that it solved the problem. ....I found the fix in either a gs3 forum here or another note forum where people were having the same issue......just saying wouldnt hurt to try that if its the mediaserver running.....but heres a good read

That's why I use autostarts to disable everything unless I open it manually. Then you don't need to turn off the location services they just don't activate til YOU tell them too. They fully function just like normal only they only function when the app is in the foreground
I like to break stuff!
Sorry of this question seems redundant.
So will doing this hinder Google now or any of its features?

Doing what? Disabling network-based locating, or using autostarts?
Google Now to fully function requires knowledge of what wifi network or cellular network you're connected to to...Shame really, and downright creepy.

So for some odd reason in getting HORRIBLE battery drain. Literally lost 40% in 35minutes. It happened out of nowhere and idk what to do. I disabled GPS, deleted all the apps that I recently downloaded. It's still happening and was wondering if anyone else is suffering from this.

I get this, i'm still trying to see what's causing it but i've found 2 things:
- It stops when i'm not connected to wifi
- Its a known kitkat bug
Hope somebody can tell me what os process is calling this process but you'll get a lot of discussions if you google sensors.qcom drain.

Yeah I did Google and did see quite a few discussions on it. I have been through many phones and this is the first one that has a major flaw in regards to wake lock. I reduced the wake locks by disabling Google Now but I use that daily and can't love without it. I don't know what to do at this point.
