Trident Electra case 2000Mah+ Hyperion / Anker ext. batt 4400 Mah - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hey guys,
I looked thru the posts and didn't see anything like this....so thought I'd share.
I bought the trident electra case because of the extra Batt, which didn't perform well. Only Re-charges oem Batt 35-50% despite its claim of 2000m.
So I modded my case to fit Both the HyPerion extended & trident aux Batt.
First run is today, so will update with Batt life #'s coupled. I will most likely dump the trident batt if it doesn't perform well together. I'm eager to drop in the zero lemon, as there is plenty of room with it gone. All in all, I like that the case isn't all TPU like the Otter, it just feels nicer, and looks better to me. With that said, not sure how it will perform during a drop test. ..especially with its new weight. ..Here are some pics as well. .. best thing is it only took 10 mins with a straight edge and razor knife.

Holy crap that thing looks like a stealth tank! I have the Kraken for this phone and it dwarfs that case, thanks for the pics though.

I have a ZL battery and was thinking of getting this case. Do you think it would fit with modding? From your pics, it doesn't look like it could but I may be wrong. The ZL is really wide, almost as wide as the phone and the case seems to indent in on the sides. Did you have to do any modding to get your regular extended battery to fit. Thanks!

Not sure about the ZL fitting, I can measure the maximum width later today.
The only real work i had to do to the back case was snip off two clips at the top of batt compartment and slightly shave down the edges of the trident batt holder, so that it is flush with Batt. You can see it in this pic if you zoom in.

Okay,
Here are the dimensions as requested
Total Inside to inside is about 2,1/4"
And between aux batt rails is an even 2"
See pics below.
Can someone with a ZL post the protruding dimensions of the batt.?
Thanks

Thanks for doing this! So I measured my ZL and the width is 2 3/8" (sent my brain back to school a little, hurts!)
So it seems the ZL will be too wide for this case without a lot of modification. I should get my case tomorrow, I'll have a look at it and see if it's feasible or if it would just end up butchering everything.

Trident + Anker
Okay,
I also bought the anker you try out. Partly because all the testing on the forms indicates it has longer run time, and partly curios if it's thinner and might offer a better fit. I haven't tested it yet for battery life, but it is a smidge thinner and offers a better fit. See pic below-anker on the left.
Tried load pics. ..but unable to now.???

It looks like you cut out the inner shell and battery door for the battery. Does the battery door need to be installed or can the Trident be install without it? Also, do you have to have the aux battery in it with the extended battery?

The back cover doesn't need to be installed, but I did it to help keep out dust. Yes the trident aux batt is installed with extended batt.

Update...
Dropped phone from about 3' twice on accident. Case help up well, the rubber corners do their job. No marks or scratches.... impressed. On one of the falls the case did come apart a bit but, most importantly the phone undamaged.

So this wont work with the ZL but will with Hyperion/QCell/etc 4x00 mAh varieties. So my QCell 4200 + this 2000 gives me 6200, nearly the same with far better protection. hmmm...

Update:
2 days, 19 hrs, 36 mins
This is on my third cycle of Anker ext / coupled with trident aux. Heavy use 1st day and normal use next day and a half.
This is not tested scientifically, not in a lab or by a professional-just MY observations with MY usage.
All usage pics posted are with auto dim,
No gps ever, no batt saver apps, occasional blue tooth, occasional media player, occasional games. Lots of calls and tons of email, as I use my phone for work and process roughly 75-100 emails and 50 calls a day.
Hope this helps.

In looking through the threads, the Zl is supposed to be only as thick as the Hyperion?
With that said you could probably mod in the Zl plus trident aux batt for a monster 9000Mah!
The inside back of trident case with aux batt installed is flush all the way down..... it might be more work than its worth, but the thought is so enticing....

I had the same problem with the hyperion. I fixed this by making the holes in the snap points a little larger. You can use a razor knife and gently turn in half circle motions. This will widdle down the material just enough to make it a nice fit.

No,
Although, the Anker is thinner both require a little resizing of the snap posts/ or holes for a proper fit.

[Q] Power-Skin cases

Anyone have any experience with these Power-Skin cases.
Was wondering if it had a built in screen protector like an otterbox does, and how well it actually works. Looks like a good case, but was hoping someone could give some actual feedback before shelling out the 50 bucks for one.
Thanks

I just received the Powerskin. I ordered from Amazon and got it today.
When it is done charging and I have used it for 24+ hours, I will post some results on battery life.
It is nicely designed, but it is bulky. I have large hands, and it feels big in them. It feels much larger than the HTC extended battery.
The case is a smooth rubber silicone. The bolt's power button is covered but completely recessed. It is not difficult to press, but is difficult to locate blind. Poor design here.
I took some pictures and there is no shadowing effect from the case.
There are two ports on either end where the kickstand is. I assume this is for sound to escape. There was a noticeable drop-off in volume when the bolt was in the case. If you use the loudspeaker often, this might be an issue.
I immediately missed the kickstand, as I use it often.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Oh hell no that's too bulky. For that bulkiness just get the 4500mAh battery. Just cost a little more. Extended battery is good enough

After 3 days of use, I can say the battery life is good, but equivalent to the HTC extended battery.
It is going back. I will stick with the extended battery.
I agree. I like the convenience of being able to take it off if I want to just carry the slim phone. But it's not worth the fact that the skin makes the phone look and feel huge. I'll deal with having to keep around the spare battery and cover if I want to swap out for the thinner phone.

Extended battery case?

Will be upgrading from my sg2 tomorrow and looking around for an extended battery already heh.
I was looking at getting the qcell or hyper 4200mAh with nfc.. But i was wondering if there was any cases that would fit for the extended battery?

Thank you for posting this.
I am really hoping there's a solution to this problem.
I have a 4200mAH Qcell battery for my Samsung Epic Touch 4G and I wouldn't part with it for the world. It's an insanely high quality battery for the money. I basically used a hard-shell/soft-shell bracer from a cheap case I bought, threw away the inner part, and just made the outer part "fit" the phone with that large battery in there.
I don't care if the solution is ghetto or weirdly-rigged, as long as it's snug and works, I'm interested.

Yeah, a case for the extended battery is my concern also. I do not want to buy the battery and be stuck using a case that gives very little protection. I have an idea which I got off the htc rezound threads. They have modified a trident kraken case to fit the extended battery. here is the link to that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1550351&page=3
However before I go ahead with such a thing I really want to make sure it will work. I need to know precise dimensions of the battery and the thickness of the silicone gel inside the trident case

Hyperion makes a tpu case for their extended battery. It may work on other extended battery setups.

Nice to see my mod from the rezound still being used but I dont know if it would work out good on this phone, the trident logo is part of the rubber on this case instead of being part of the outer shell, so if you do cut it your going to see the battery. unless the battery is black then it might not look as bad. Im probably going to pick up a Kraken case soon and I might give it a try anyway
was thinking of tris this on the otterbox commuter. but i dont think the inner rubber layer is thick enough to compensate for the volume the battery will take up.
one thing to note 2 Samsung batteries back to back with stickers and one NFC Annette removed are thinner than some of the generic extended batteries ive looked into.
Interesting to know. If you have dimensions for the batter, please share. Thanks.

Watch Seidio.com they informed me via email that they are coming out with an extended battery and soon after a convert case (comparable to Otterbox, Ballistic in protection). I'm not sure if it will work with other manufactures batteries but it should.
@Italiankd. Perhaps the logo could be cut out and then placed back on the battery from the outside. I just checked out pictures of the Cyclops case, and its the same issue.

i could cut away the lil bit that needs removed for the extended back to fit a bam! what do you guys think? id think it would be best for me anyway as i dont want extra thinkness i just want to protect he screen from drops. so only the sides need a bit of protection.
I bought the one on the Gillebob's Mobilefun UK link, from Hong Kong directly. They have higher capacity better models. Mine was 2200 mAh model and cost me only $40 delivery included. I do not keep it on the phone all the time since it is bulky. When I need some power I connect the phone and use it while charging it my battery. It is very handy and doec not affect the signal quality or the NFC. I keep it charged and ready for any occasion. Check the pics and if you are interested contact me. :good:

someone was doing tests on it, and found that it will not fully discharge into the phone's batt (seems logical, you can never empty a battery into another battery)... so what you end up with is:
a case that is larger in every dimension than the hyperion 4200mAH (even with the hyperion extended battery case)
and an end result of less than 4200mAH usable juice.
but you can easily disconnect it, for streamlined (albeit caseless) pocketablility.

I have been using it for about a month now and as it has been said it discharges around 85% to the phone battery. There is always one light remains even if it stops charging the phone.
My phone goes around day and a half with it's own juice and if I need power on the go when I go to beach or something this case comes very handy. I slip it on when I am on the road and if I need the power I just push the button. When I am out of the car, I slip the phone out and I do not have the bulkiness with me. I am happy and waiting for the 4500 mAh one now.

Laza Zcell NFC 3800mah Extended Battery

Just ordered. Anyone know anything about it?
Its a good buy if anyone needs the extra battery life. It doesn't add that much bulk and has a case that can be purchased with it.
can u report back about how well it does, i was contemplating gettng this as well
With heavy usage (Emails, Calls, SMS, Being productive with the device, etc...) I get 16 hours on a full charge. With light to moderate usage (Sleep, Down time) I get 20 + hours. I'm on stock everything. With my old stock battery I was getting 6 to 10 hours on a full charge (light to heavy usage). It's a good feeling not worrying about the battery dying and having to charge it when I'm out and about anymore. And even with the case, it fits comfortable in the pocket.
any pictures of the phone with the battery
I was also thinking about buying this battery
I have another extended battery from Amazon they sell for 13
I know they also sell QCell brand for 20
Can anyone compare any extended batteries for gs2?
Did you get a case for Laza? How it feels? Same plastic as back cover or rubber feel?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I will post pictures soon. The case is the same material as the back cover. Only negative thing is that it slips around on surfaces. I am currently thinking of ways to mod with my old TPU case.
Thanks for reply.
I guess I won't be buying that case.
I was hoping that it's made from rubber / silicone material like tpu cases. Have no idea why no company wants to make extended battery cases when so many people use big batteries.
I for myself bought a cheap $3 case on eBay, cut out the back and use it that way, sort of bumper style custom made.

I had purchased a previous extended battery that was ok but not what I was expecting as far a battery life, with the stock original battery I would get about 4 hrs before reaching 20%, with old extended battery I would reach 20% at about 5 to 6 hours, I was hoping for at least 8 hours of use! The use I put the battery thru is reading 20 to 30 emails per day, Internet Web browsing aprx. 1 hr. and music for the remainder of time, so my usage is not that heavy, my HTC HD2:laugh: with extended battery easily made it all day and part of next day!:good: and my usage on HTC HD2 was very heavy compared to my Galaxy S2! I would estimate almost 4 times as much! so hopefully this battery will do better! Is there a list of extended batteries with life times noted anywhere?, I did a quick search but just get little tid bits.
Which extended battery you talking about? Which brand?
I see like 5 being sold on Amazon.

Guys, this battery is the best.
I'm a really heavy user and have all things on full time sync, including Gmail. And this battery lasts the longest. Not sure if it's really 3800 or whether it's has nfc built-in like advertised.
But I've used 3500 battery that's sold on Amazon for $13, and this one so far feels stronger.
Will see how it will work, o ly time could tell, but do far I'm very happy with this purchase.
BTW, the case they sell is really nice too. Maybe it's made from plastic, but feels soft to touch, kind of like silicone. And since no one makes any cases for extended battery, I'm glad I've bought their case as well !

Yeah this battery is really good I am getting good use out of it. I am a very heavy user and I get almost the whole day out of it. I havent tested out the NFC but I am sure it works. Also I like thew case it is great, I also used to use the seido case for the stock battery and it came with a face clip and the phone now fits the face clip with the extended battery and case on. That really makes me happy.
I just received my battery the other day and I am a VERY HEAVY use and at the end of a 12 hour day I am around 50% which is awesome! Also the NFC and to have greater range then the stock Samsung batteries both the nexus extended and the stock one that came with our phones just an fyi update

It's a great battery, and it ships from California so you don't have to wait 3 weeks like you do for the cheap ones that ship from China. However, I should say that I purchased one of the cheap ones ($7.50, including the replacement humpback cover, which is identical to the Laza one) from China on eBay and, other than taking forever and a day to arrive, it's as good as the Laza if not better.
The case lasted 2 weeks and then the top corner snapped off when I took it out of my pocket. Wish I could find a simple gel case that will fit.

The battery life is GREAT, however it does NOT support NFC.
NFC works perfectly on my phone with the stock battery, with this battery it does not work at all.
If you want great battery life and don't care about NFC then it's a great battery, if you want NFC you'll have to find another battery.

Any word on how it went? I looked at one at Best Buy mobile on Monday and it looks like it could work. My thought was that if the phone back was left off, there would be less cutting off the foam and ridges. It looked like it might work, but I was a little scared to experiment with a $60 case. I have the Anker battery, so maybe one of the smaller extend batteries would work if that one didn't. I've also heard it's good to put one of those little moisture absorbing packs inside to prevent any incidental moisture buildup.

Even with the back plate off there is a lot of gap between the front and back plates of the Obex. I use the Obex a lot for fishing and running with my dogs and it gets abused, so I really don't want to chance it. Otterbox Armor + extended batterg

Well. Ive done some seaeching and couldn't find anything so here I am.
Does anyone know of a way to make the extended battery compatible with Otterbox's Armor series cases. I have seen seberal modifications for the defender. Bht none for armor. And I don't want to not use this case, cause I know how rough I am on my phone and I know it'll break. But the battery just doesn't seem to cut it either.
Any ideas? Links? Anything?
Thanks!

You may have to remove some of this protective foam and also cut a hole through your Galaxy S3 back. Try to measure the difference and by doing this, at least a regular 3000mAh Samsung battery may fit inside.
Since I don´t own a Otterbox Armor Case and just a "simple" Otterbox Defender, I don´t have any possibility to perform this mod.

And I don't want to not use this case, cause I know how rough I am on my phone and I know it'll break. But the battery just doesn't seem to cut it either.
Any ideas? Links? Anything?
Thanks!

Is the 3000 the standard battery? I can't remember for sure. And I'm not looking for a 7000 ot anything crazy. I just need to be able to run a full day on heavy use.

The 3000mAh battery is a bigger battery in comparison to the stock 2xxxmAh which is included with the S3 when you buy it. You may have to compare the stock battery and the enhanced battery in order to be sure if my idea would work out, to remove some of the protective foam or rubber or whatever this material is made off and to cut a hole through your S3 battery back.
Otherwise I´m not quite sure if I´d wish to perform some modding on a rather expensive case like the otterbox armor

Yea. That's what scares me. Lol. I have 65 bucks in this case. I'm willing to mod it. But it needs to work if I do. Lol

I've got both of these and I can confirm that the official Samsung 3000 mAh extended battery fits inside the Otterbox Armor case, if you leave the phone back off.
I haven't measured the difference in thickness, but it does seem to feel a little tighter when you clip the Otterbox on. How this might affect the waterproofing I don't know - and I'm not going to test it!
I can say that this has, if anything, improved the performance of the case. With just the standard battery and back there seemed to be a slight 'give' at the bottom of the case which made pressing the back button difficult - I would have to jab at the button or squeeze the case to get it to register. Now with the extended battery it works just fine - though you still have to poke it a bit since they made the opening for the back and menu buttons a little small for my chubby fingers!
As a follow on to my last post, I can also confirm that the armor is definitely not waterproof with the extended battery. Not even a little.
