WhatsApp works fine... only gripe I have with it is it doesn't have the capability on Androids to only show one checkmark instead of 2 when a message has not been read yet.
iPhones have this capability, and as far as I know, blackberries do too...
but oh well...

Uhhhh, no it doesn't. Send a message to an Android phone. It gives you two checkmarks straight away, even if the person hasn't read it yet.

No, I've contacted support on this, they say that's by design with no plans in changing it. It gives two checks right away even though you haven't read it yet

I can confirm the single check mark is very much a feature in the android version.. turns to two when read. you might think it doesn't if the person you're messaging is reading the message instantly.

With all due respect, I think you guys are missing something here... I've already spoken to support and the 2 checkmark issue effects only sending a message to Android phones only. A screenshot does not do anything as I have no idea what kind of phone the recipient has.
1. If THE RECIPIENT has an Android phone and a message is sent to them, you will see 1 checkmark instantly, followed by the second checkmark a second later, regardless of if they read it or not. The only time it will not show the second checkmark is if the recipient phone is OFF.
2. If THE RECIPIENT has an iPhone, it will show one checkmark until the person reads it. According to support, this is caused by the way iPhone's handle the messages.
I've already had an email conversation with WhatsApp Support/Developers about this issue, and they effectively recognize the issue as Android's handle the notifications differently than iPhones.
So if your phones do it as intended (Recipients are Androids), then you obviously know something the actual Developers don't.
I just told you the recipient has a galaxy Nexus. even now, the double check mark hasn't shown up since he's probably sleeping. why would I lie about this?

Ok thats the whole point... he may be sleeping with the phone off....
Listen... it BLATENTLY states what I am trying to say in:
www.whatsapp.com/faq under "What are those green checkmarks next to my messages"
"We are glad you asked. These green checkmarks are actually very important since they function as message delivery acknowledgement indicators. Here is what they mean:
One checkmark - message successfully delivered to the server.
Two checkmarks - message successfully deliverd to the device of the chat partner. (note: this does not indicate that the message was read, just that it was delivered"
Not much more I could say to that. After speaking to the developers, they have no plans on changing this, and the reason why iPhones function that way is because of the way iPhones handle messages.

it means, his galaxy nexus doesn't have connection now (3g/wifi disabled, or phone off)
if the phone was on, and the 3g/wifi was enabled, u will see the 2 green marks right after the 1 green mark..i can confirm u this
also when a user receive the message in the background, he can open the notification or not (or also he can have the phone in the pocket and not unlocking it), thats why it doesn't mean the message is read..android can receive the message even if the phone is in standby with screen off, this doesnt happen on the iphone i think
will be nice if in the future they add a third green mark to indicate the message is read

If I still have it, sure. I'm not at home right now, but i'll check my inbox when i get home.
It was a while ago though.
Fact remains, you could test this yourself... as I did, with my Galaxy Nexus, My Wife's SGS2, and my friends iCrap.
Every time I open my address book (or at least the first time after a reboot) I get this AT&T address book verifying subscriber status popup that takes a while to complete. I have no interest in ever using that service so how can I disable the check and just stop using it at all?
I'm guessing that the answer might be root and remove bloatware but I'm hoping there's a way to just turn it off without rooting. Don't worry I'll be rooting sooner than later but for now I'd like to just get rid of that annoying delay.
I havent got my phone yet, should have it within the next 3 hours, but have you looked through the settings, and opened up the AT&T address book app and checked the settings within that app itself?
Yeah. Not seeing any settings for it or actually any AT&T Address Book App at all.
Yeah i finally got mine a few hours ago, but i dont see any options to disable it either.
I'm guessing this will be one of those annoyances that only root can salve.
Not sure about the s3 but on skyrocket I checked out the programs.. scrolled down to sync and disabled..

Where exactly did you "check out the programs.. scroll down to sync and disable"?
I don't see anything about AT&T address book anywhere.
I have the same issue. Every so often when I go into my phonebook I have to wait for it to check the AT&T Address Book. So now there is a huge lag to access my contacts.
Why do carriers think they should be mobile phone designers? I wish they'd just leave the designing to the people who are good at it.
Over 10 years of buying my own phones out of contract for a reason. I've only had the phone for a few hours. I wonder what other lame surprises await....
Ok, I seemed to have fixed it. Not sure which action it was because I was just doing everything I could to make it stop.
First thing I did was to turn off AT&T phonebook in my online account. Log into www.attwireless.com. Under MyAT&T tab, mouse over "Wireless" and select "Usage & Recent Activity". Scroll down to "Members Shared Usage" and click on "view details of the number you're working on. Scroll down to "Minute Detail" and right under that is "Phonebook" with the option to turn it on or off.
At the same time I was doing a lot of flailing around in the the phone. I was Settings page in Contacts and I deleted all the AT&T BS contacts it auto inserted into the phone.
I rebooted and it stopped trying to access that AT&T phonebook. Hope this helps.
1. system setting
2. app manager
3. click on the phone book
4. force stop
Now it will stop and the icon will be removed from the app list. You can do this for all of the apps that will not uninstall till we get root.

In step 3 when you say "the phone book" do you mean the app called Contacts that has an icon that looks like a phone book? When I disable that app my phone dialer icon disappeared making it so I couldn't dial out. Had to re-enable it.
Otherwise, I dont have an app named Phone Book.

Hi I just got my phone the same thing happened. I let it load (the second time it happened the first time I hit cancel). I got a page that was basically an ad for att's backup service, I scolled down to the bottom and clicked on close (or whatever the button did say). Now when I start contacts no more "checking subscriber status etc".
I have not rebooted yet but will and if it comes back I'll post, if it doesn't then at least on my Galaxy SIII it was a one time event.
Hi All,
This may sound silly and may even be easy but could some one help me in getting rid of suggestions, suggestive words when I am writing on the keyboard ?
I wish they dont show up and even get deleted from the N7100 as sometimes my usernames, ids, numbers etc also show up when I am typing similar words.
Thanks.

Hi,
Yes it did turn off temporarily.
However when I turned the predictive text on again the ids, numbers etc started showing back again.
Is there any way to clean or delete the database or list of ids, numbers altogether ?

Application manager
Go to All tab and search for Samsung Keyboard
Click it and choose "clear data"
This will restore the keyboard to the condition it was when you first bought the phone.
It will take a few seconds to start up when you open it for the first time.

Little Clarifications Please:
1) Using CUSTOM ROM or Stock ROM?
2) Using Stock messaging App or any others?
I'm assuming you'r using default stock messaging app in STOCK ROM.
May be try opening Messaging, Press Menu key and go to Settings, under the settings there will be notification settings. Check those.

I'm not sure how is this then.
May be Check whether it's similar to this.
Also, Check you notification volume and Also make sure the there is some ringtone selected in these apps as well.
Since Go SMS works fine i think it's ostly an issue due to the setting in Stock Messaging app.

I returned to stock and downloaded Google Now Launcher but it tells me TouchWiz is the default and I need to go to settings and change it. I can't change the default launcher in settings though because the option is grayed out.

You need to clear defaults. If it's greyed out then it's not default.
Just open apps then press the home button then it should give you the choice to select launcher.

You need to press clear under Clear Defaults where it says TouchWiz Home.
There wasn't a "clear" option because the device couldn't recognize the other launcher to begin with since I didn't have the required app turned on.

I know. You posted while I was in the midst of posting a reply.
I need some serious help. Called samsung long story short said i had to have device shipped to them so they can flash it. They sent me an email that should have contained a shipping label. Got email quick but never checked contents. Well went to email next day to print label to ship. When i opened email it had a ticket number for me to go have my own label printed at a ups store or equivalent. Fair enough when i got there for some reason i was reading email more thoughly and realized my device # didnt match mine. So went home called samsung again they said they have already sent me a printable label, i read the man the email i described above he said that that email wasnt from them?? Puzzled at this point but had him send another label to a friends email address (which he opened in a different device) there it was a printable label. Puzzed still, called samsung again, as i was speaking to the man i realized its been the same person i have spoke with three different times over a span of a week. What r the odds of that especially when its a company as big as samsung. Im really concerned that if i ship this device out i may never get it back. And another thing i described the problem but he never ever told me a reason that i had to have device flashed, even after i asked him multiple times, somehow he was able to side track me enough with rambling that i never insisted on a reason. The initial reason was my adress bar, would change from a secured green to a circled i with redirect comands grayed out. If some one can explain this or give me any advice or a fix that can be down without shipping would be great.... in English please dont no alot about computers or devices.. i tried simple things like malware downloads and virus removel but they say theres no viruses or anything. Im poor so new device isnt oppsion i guess that was a long story longer rather than short sorry and thankyou for reading
