You should flash the 2.3 RUU.

And how to do that? Because when i boot in recovery it tells me that it's in safe mode because it can't access something. Maybe this is the reason it doesn't see my SD-Ext partition??

Oh you're talking about the 4ext recovery safe mode? If thats the case then dont flash the ruu.
Sometimes it happens after flashing a different hboot, and it can be fixed by doing a full wipe. If that doesnt work you can try deleting the 4ext folder on the sd card.

You should mention what you refer to as "safe mode".
Many refer to ruu mode, or hboot as "safe mode".

In recovery click "wipe/format" and click "format system". That did the trick for me lots of times. Anyway, you should read a little more carefuly because 4ext tells you why it's in safe mode and what to do to fix the problem

Did you read what abaa wrote? If it's 4ext safe mode DO NOT flash RUU. 4ext is recovery and it's independent from any ROM or RUU or anything, so no matter what you flash it won't fix your problem. Did you try erasing 4ext cache or wiping system in recovery?

Just reboot your recovery and it should be out of safe mode.
Try reflashing the recovery again and to a latest and stable version.

I currently have no idea what safe mode means to you. Is it hboot?
Post a photo of this "safe mode" please.

Well, I had this issue few times but reflashing ROM always did the trick. You could try flashing superwipe and see what happens after that

try restoring the nand you do before flashing. is your battery level OK? did you use caukins flash all? Make sure you are wiping data, cache, and dalvik if not using a format_all.zip. With the problems you are having, doing each twice wouldnt hurt (data, cache, dalvik, data, cache, dalvik)

Download these gapps. Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. Then flash the gapps I just uploaded and see if that helps.

I'm starting to love these threads where a newbie has a "life threatening" problem with their EVO and so they post in the wrong section, even after they've seen that it's against the rules...lol
HELP HELP HELP, I turned off my phone and now I can't see anything? WHAT SHOULD I DO.....
A) Turn it back on
B) Freak the hell out
C) Head over to XDA to act like my house is on fire and post in the wrong section
Oh and no need to answer, we all know which one the newbies pick 99.999 percent of the time...hahahaha

route to recovery!

when i turn on phone i hold vol down and hold it then hit power button, bootloader?
i get the 4 options , option 2 is recovery ( i wait until its looked for pgi99 thingy) then scroll down to option 2 hit power. this takes me to a black screen with red triangle i then hold vol up hit power then i apply update and then i get into custom recovery. is this right?
Download Rom manager and go into the app and select flash clockwork mod recovery
Then when u want to go to recovery , hold vol down + pow ,
Bootloader, wait for the thingy , recovery and voila

Permanent recovery flashing requires S-OFF.
so there is nothing wrong with the entry method for s-on user?
Sounds like you rooted pre-unrevoked and have teh HTC engineering recovery. When you go to the triagle and vol up + Power, is the recovery blue with 2.0e at the top?

not particularly, just wondered as i have more steps to get to recovery than most guides. i do have a issue of flashing a certain rom and if this effected the reason why i get bootloops with it. its a data2ext rom which ive never run before. installed many other custom roms no issues until this rom, although my hunch is its sd card related
well.. obviosuly.. you need to partition your SD-Card with an EXT2/3/4 partition

lol yes thats what i have been doing but the ext isnt taking. that is, i have been running ext2 for sometime all was good. when i flashed the rom which auto converts ext2 to 4 it had issues mbblokop thingy. i then did the partitioning with gparted as that is pretty stout. however it would create the partition to ext4 no errors. then if i reread the cards attributes it was still ext2 . repeated the operation a few times before it read ext4 . then in reverse ext 4 to ext 2 it would take a few attempts to make it happen. i.e as if the card doesn't like being changed from ext2 to 4 . stubborn call it but it would eventually.
even so when configued as ext4 as i need this rom would bootloop on 2nd boot.
having not been able to run a rom that needs ext4 have reverted back to a rom that uses ext2 and all is good
Data2sd aside, the recovery you have does not backup. I definitely recommend going s-off and replacing it with something else

no cwm. the htc thing you mention has no use at all afaiks . i.e there are no options other than to wipe and apply update.
when i appy update from those options its then that i'm taken to the rec we all know. depending on who's rec (cwm/ext4) i have on the sd card named "update"
Yes as I suspected. This leaves you vulnerable (ive been there).
If you break your Rom and then your SD fails, you're really screwed. Please take my advice and s-off then flash a proper recovery. You have been warned

No I mean if for some strange reason you use an app which screws your recovery (I bet ROM manager is capable of that), and then your ROM doesn't want to boot for another reason (**** happens), if youre S-ON your only choice is to use a RUU (risking more stuff going wrong). if youre S-OFF you just wipe recovery and re-flash it, then restore a backup.
my experience was that i was using a fake flash version of cwm (applying from 2.e as update), formatted all my partitions then flashed something, it wiped my SD (this has happened a few times to me) and im stuck with a recovery that cant mount the sd card, a phone that wont boot, no fake flash recovery on SD or rom to flash. Having 2.e was an old school method which has been superseded and needs to be replaced before getting yourself into trouble as I did. Now stop dilly-dallying and get to it. Double time.
Do you want 50 press ups with that sarge? ;-) it will be done

[Q] backup question - TWRP, CWM, and RA

ok, maybe this is stupid but i don't know. i recently was able to get my evo hboot back down to 0.76.2000 and i'm like all excited and stuff. it works and i'm happy.
here's the potentially stupid question... when creating a backup in the mentioned recoveries, they create a backup of BOOT. does BOOT mean HBOOT?
Second question... in the backup recovery is listed. is that the recovery such as twrp, ra. cwm?
the reason i ask is i'm planning on restoring a backup and i don't want to lose my hboot. the recovery was done on hboot 2.16
i have three oreo cookies for the first person who know, answers, and doesn't call me a dumb-ass.
That's your boot image, not your hboot. And yes that backs up your recovery. Now where's my oreos

I believe you will have to reflash whatever Rom or kernel you had after you recover your backup, since you changed Hboots. Usually it will not boot into the operating system, but will go directly to Hboot instead.

Not the case. Hboot has nothing to do with it. I ran a ROM on 2.18 then downgraded to 2.10 and the ROM still worked.

ROMs have nothing to do with hboot, they are contained in the /system and /data partitions while hboot is located somewhere esle. The only interaction between the two is that hboot is what tells the how to start up and that is what then loads up the actual ROM on the Android VM

2.10 yes, but I've had Hboot 0.76 after downgrading from 2.10, 2.16, and 2.18 and that was the case. I always had to reflash the kernel to get it to boot into the operating system, or else it would go directly to Hboot. It's an old engineering bootloader unlike 2.10.
I use a zip called superwipe. i'll have to get back to you on where i found it, but i think it would be a good solution to your TWRP/RA dilema lol. all you do is flash in recovery the superwipe.zip, and it automatically deletes cache/dalvik cache/data, three times, then sends you back to the recovery menu, where you can just simply flash your desired rom zip. sorry if this was already mentioned... i didn't read all of the reply pages
its called ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.ZIP, im sure google will point you to the download location
also, im running MIUI ROM and RA 2.3 recovery

Twrp factory reset/data wipe wipes 2x in one click everything except dalvik which its wipe option wipes 2x as well as a matter of fact I think every single wipe option in twrp automagically runs 2x it jist formats the partition and then reformats it again everytime you swipe the slide

you can fix it!Go to the fastboot, then flash the TWRP 2.6.0.0,copy the wanted rom to the sd-kart;flash the boot.img with fastboot, then flash the rom with recovery, thats it.You can find for shure a better discription here on xda, because we dont have s-off its nearly to 0 that you brick your phone......good luck

I was in the same boat. If all the files in the SD card was erased, manually push files via ADB push using windows command prompt. Search for ADB push in the forum or on youtube and it'll show you how.
You'll be fine. (also make sure your bootloader is the correct version and CID as well.

I recommend installing a different recovery, something Amon_Ra based, like Smelkus. Search for it on here and follow the instructions on how to install it. Afterwards, make sure you do a full wipe in recovery before flashing another ROM. If you continue to have issues with the SD card you may have a bad card. You can try formatting it, or try a different card. If you get errors while trying to install the new recovery your SD card may very well be corrupt.
Here is the link to Smelkus:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661543
Before trying to install the new recovery, you might try formatting your SD card using your PC. That may fix your issue. I still recommend installing another recovery other than CWM, though.
