Any reviews of the S4 Google Edition yet? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm contemplating getting it, but just curious if there are any reviews out. Also hardware is exactly the same right? Can't wait to see how fast devs port the rom and kernel from that over to the GS4 with Touchwiz:laugh:

It's not out yet.

Ahh cool, didn't know if anyone got an early version or a review copy.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any info since IO. Doesn't it come out in 3 days? I'm still undecided between this and the Nexus 4.

Nexus 4 is ok my wife checked it out but no removable battery and no ex card is a big downfall especially when you need 48 gb of storage

Price is a big thing for me too though. As appealing as the S4 is, I don't know if I can drop over $700 after taxes when I can get a Nexus 4 for almost half the price.

I got the S4 for $128.00 down and $20 a month for 24 months The nexus 4 was only like $ 25 down I think and $17 a month for 24 months

Well off contract right now for T-Mobile the GS4 is 579.99+ tax. I believe the google version through google will be $629.99+tax. You can get the Nexus 4 for $350+tax for 16gb version.

That still makes the total price of the S4 $608. I miss just paying an upgrade fee and signing a new 2 year contract. None of this extra $20 a month for two years nonsense.

Well paying the $20 a month is essentially paying the old prices on contract with a subsidized phone. There is really no difference tbh.

Just get a regular S4 & install the GE AoSP rom when it comes out.

There's a review on gsm arena
I'm on it right now when I got my gs4 the first thing I did was root/recovery and installed the GE I spent no time what so ever with touch with. Too bloated for my taste and I just like my roms clean.
I'm also a big flashaholic, I want to try 4.3 but I haven't seen what's new except camera and it being optimized.
Once I get to enjoy my hardware I'll be sure to try it.

Price bought off contract

Did anyone buy the device without changing their contract and if so how much did you pay?
I know at&t quotes $650 but I'm sure there are ways to buy buy for less (aside from getting axxount credits)

$650. Only way to lower that is the early upgrade thing for $550, but it extends your contract.

Yes it's $649 unless you're able to get the store manager to cut you a deal like I've had done once or twice in the past. I'll be returning my IP5 tomorrow in exchange for the Note 2. I hope they aren't too mad at me. Battery life on the IP5 leaves a lot to be desired.

Outright price has always been cheaper from AT&T. Everywhere else I've seen is $699.99 or more.
What kind of deal u had with the manager to get it cheaper than $650?

When I purchased my last S3, the manager went in the system and marked it down to $399 since I'd purchased so many phones. Just have to be nice to people sometimes.

How did you guys manage to get one off contract? I showed up early this morning and was the first into one store and they would no sell me one without signing a new contract. I even called customer service who called the store to clarify and told me it was up to the manager to decide whether or not they would sell it to me without contract because they are in limited supply. I called another store thinking maybe it was just that one at&t store and I was told the exact same thing by the other store. It's driving me crazy because I was ready to fork over $650 + for this phone. Customer support wouldnt even let me order over the phone because they claim that the phone isn't even in their system yet. Very disappointing day so far...

They extended my contract for 2 yrs from today.

I literally walked in and said I was buying for the off contract price and that was it, guy rang me up and gave me my phone. My brother works for bestbuy mobile and he said that sometimes stores will do that to maximize sales because thats how they will make there money, off the contract instead of the phone. So if you were off contract i can see why they would be pricks about it.

Man this sucks for me. I am still under contract but the guy didn't even ask. I have called about 10 stores and the story has been the same except for one guy who offered to sell me one for $750 cash only!! I laughed in his face before I hung up that phone. I have a business account and I finally got off the phone with someone who was willing to help me order it, but get this, they charge businesses $100 more for the no contract price...$650 vs $750. That is so close to Best Buy's price of $800 that I stop from ordering it. I will speak with my company's account rep next week but this is really shady business even from At&t. Without my grandfathered unlimited plan I would be walking out the door at this point.

Yeah, you got that right. South Florida = Scumbag Land. This is the shady dealings I have had with a major company in a while. There shouldnt be this big of an issue buying off contract. It clearly lets you do it on the website, although when I tried that it makes me set up a new line of service or I have to act like a new customer. I even thought about buying it as a new customer and then canceling the line, etc. but that it just way to much work for a cell phone. Why they can't just shut up and take my money....I'll never know!

Hey Note2 owners (and soon to be owners),
I tried all afternoon on launch day to pick up one at non-commitment price, but all the AT&T stores here in Los Angeles area wouldn't let me as they were in "limited stock" and reserved for new or upgrade accounts. I even called a friend who knew a manager but he said the same thing. The only way was to order it online as it ships from warehouse.
I do have an issue though and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same shoes as I am.
I placed an order online that same afternoon, but ever since and until now it still shows "Status: Attention" on my order status page. I did call AT&T Premier to make sure, and the rep told me that it's still being processed and take anywhere from 24-48 hrs to finish processing the order, considering that the weekend was non-business days.
Is anyone else who ordered online on launch day still show that status? I've been stuck on my old flip RAZR phone for a month now since my issue with my S3 being fraudulently reported stolen (a story I might like to tell someday).
Just wondering if it's just bad luck with me or something. I just want my Note 2 and carrying this RAZR is kinda embarrassing lol
Thanks guys for any input.

My online (pre-)order status went from "Pending" or "Processing" to "Shipped". I never saw an "Attention" status, and I believe others here who did said it indicated that there was a problem that was holding up the order. Probably good to check with them again.

Why not order it online? That seems to have worked smoothly for most people. I did that (for the full no-contract $650) and kept my grandfathered unlimited data plan (although initially AT&T changed it to a 3GB plan, and I had to call and have the unlimited plan restored).

W/ Plan. It will work with an upgrade.
Target has it for $79. Only catch is they change older plans such as the one I have. I get 5gb a month for $20. They had to change the price to $35. Limitations built into their system. Called retention. They offered it to me for $109. Gave me credits on my bill to offset cost of phone. I told them maybe and they offered to call me back Friday after I looked over all the deals out there.

Best place To Upgrade At The Moment..

Sorry for the dumb question, ive searched around for my answer but cant seem to find one that's current around the forums, where is the most inexpensive place to get my upgrade done...?
Thanks in Advance :good::fingers-crossed:
For a Samsung Galaxy s3 Perferably 32gb, but 16gb is ok
Or should I go with the the nexus 4? what are your opinions??
I'd check on eBay. I got my g2 and Hercules from them.
Otherwise I'd try to get a deal from T-Mobile. Some promotion or another.
Should be something coming up for the super bowl.
What's a nexus 4?

Check out bestbuy. I think they actually have it on sale right now if you're eligible for an upgrade. I ordered mine online from them back in october and it only cost me about 100$
32gb S3 was $149 on tmobile.com yesterday, not sure when that sale ends.

You should try switching to Sprint, if that's not to much of hassle for you lol. They're having a buy one get one promo on the Optimus G right now. Check it out.

Or, if you wanna try switching to AT&T lol, their having a promo on the Lumia 920, it's bogo also.

Honestly the Nexus 4 is a great deal, because it's unlocked, and has excellent specs, if I we're you I'd go with the Nexus 4. Plus you get all the android updates right when they come out.
I would agree with above post try best buy. I think the 32gb galaxy would cost you about 200, should be on sale for like 180 then is a matter of adding the tax . I got the 16gb one but I also have a 16gb sd card for music etcc. Honestly since your a person that seems like you like space I wouldn't recommend Nexus 4. I believe is truly overrated, non removable battery and the highest you can get is only 16gb and Of course you would be getting a lot less than that. Only choice you have after that is paying Google for their ****ty cloud service that doesn't even have an app on the pc similarly to iTunes. My bad on the Rumble lol I just dislike people who jump on any new tech.
Also buying through tmobile is usually more expensive than best buy,not too mention for warranty purposes more times than not you will get a refurbished one while for best buy you get a new one.

Also if you paying the majority of your bill because sometimes that's not the case like for myself I would consider going elsewhere. At&t or Verizon there's a reason why they have so many more customers than tmobile even with acquisition. Over 100 million customers for those 2 compare to like 40 for tmobile lol

Is T mobile insurance worth it?

Literally 5 minutes ago, my beloved s3 t999 fell about 2 ft off my lap onto gravel and the entire screen is cracked now. I have a UAG case that has protected it from worse falls.
Anyways, i pay insurance to T mobile which is 9 bucks a month. However, they want me to pay a $150 deductible for a replacement when I could have sworn the insurance was supposed to cover damage because when I decided to get the insurance the T mobile rep told me I only had to pay deductible for theft.
A new screen on ebay is much cheaper, and i have fixed phone screens before so it shouldn't be anything new (pretty sure there are plenty of tutorials out there anyway).
Insurance or fix it myself? If i go insurance, ill have to return my phone back to stock and reset the flash counter which is something I really don't feel like doing, but will if I have to.

Never mind about using their insurance. Was just informed that the s4 upgrade was only $150, so I'm going to get the s4, then order a screen for the s3 and sell the s3 back to someone else. Profit?

The S4 is $150 down, then $20 a month for 24 months.
The most I've seen an S3 sell for (since the S4 came out) is right around $330.
You could buy the glass yourself and fix it, but there's the chance of screwing up the digitizer.
I would just go through T-Mobile, you're paying for insurance every month for a reason, right?

Go with screen !
You should stop paying for the insurance , and get the s4... but i hope you know its 150$ DOWN, Plus 20$ a month added to your monthly bill. and you pay 20$ a month until you pay the full price of S4 off. And if you dont feel like doing that. I RECOMMEND to buy a screen and cancel your insurance because your really paying 9$ for nothing ! But be sure you buy the right screen because you can get scammed ! Be aware. :cyclops:
If you make an insurance claim you don't have to return it to stock. That's just for warranty purposes. Insurance covers anything you do to your device which is why there is a deductible.
As for replacing the screen it's not a simple task. I wouldn't waste the money.
And as was pointed out, the S4 is 150 down and 20 dollars a month for 24 months.
If you are not on a value plan you may be able to get the S4 with an upgrade contract but I believe those are 199 and up.

Tmobile dont do contracts no more.. The only way is to finance the phone. Unless you go to walmart I think they still do contracts on tmobile

T-Mobile does not directly do contracts but third parties do. Its the only way they could keep selling T-Mobile service.

Anyway, still going to attempt to fix the s3.

In my opinion no.... And now that even a Google edition is coming out.. It means that the TW base s4 will have more stable aosp experience. I got the s3 and n4 last year and gave the n4 to my gf, because i knew i could flash aosp to my s3 and have the same as that n4... She is not rooted and she hates me because mine aosp roms are better than her stock aosp..

Everything in the S4 is an upgrade from the N4. The S4 has the latest and greatest tech on all fronts except the camera compared to other smartphones on the market.

The One has better low-light capture and 100% crop images although it really depends on what you're trying to do with it - for me, 4MP prints just wouldn't cut it. Way too small of an image.
The best camera on a smartphone is the 41MP on the Nokia 808 Pureview by most accounts.
Don't get me wrong, the S4 has a great camera but the sensor is still too small for pics in darker environments and the lack of optical image stabilization can make for a blurry image.

Can't believe the 808 exists... Compared to the s4 in that thread, not really good quality for 41 mp. But he did say the 808 pics had to be resized in order to upload. The 808 is also an ugly phone haha. Thanks for the read!

The 808 isn't even WP - its Symbian! Rumor is they are coming out with a WP EOS phone with another super camera... might be interested in that but yeah it sucks they use Windows Phone although a lot of my friends switched to WP8 and love it.

Well the 808 is a few years old to boot... Its an old Symbian phone... Nokia is rumored to be working on a new version... If that old tech can kick the crap out of the newest tech or at least match it (it blows everything away with low light which was HTC's only big selling point on that camera), imagine what a newer version would do!

Will there be a new gift promotion?

With the recall, and iPhone 7 around the corner. Do you think Samsung will run another free gift promotion?

I hope so... got my Gear Fit 2 today, I'd love to get a 256GB Card LOL... or the new Gear VR 2 would be nice, I liked the old one and wanted to try a virtual office environment
Sprint just texted me to return my phone and wait for a replacement sometime next week. Said I'm getting a 25.00 gift card.

According to Sprint, the $25 is from Samsung...
As a gesture of appreciation, Samsung is offering all customers choosing a Galaxy S7 family device or the Galaxy Note 7 within the exchange program with a $25 service credit applied to their Sprint account within the next 90 days.

got a free Gear VR, if your into that sort of thing.
would have rather had a Samsung watch, something I wouldn't buy but would have as a freebie.
I heard that would be a $25 gift card for recall customers. I just wonder if I can have a chance to have other color. I owned black one , I wanna silver one :victory:

Actually yes.
Other than die hard samsung fans they will be hard pressed to get the general public to trust them after this.
Sure the recall and replacement will cost a fortune but its loss in reputation, trust and thus massive future lost sales which will really cost them in the long run.
They will need to do something to entice consumers to purchase their devices...and that is usually done in free offers.

Here is 25 dollars, we are sorry that our product could have burned down your house and killed your family lol.

In samsungs defense they have recalled the phones millions of them Apple has been blowing up batteries since 2009 a little girl in uk had glass in her eye from it exploding while talking on it, there response not our fault. Google it.

My opinion is that they make a huge mistake. Monster phone with monster money should not burn you and your house. Why they didnt make tests before all this?
They should not give us a gift...they shoul LOWER THE PRICE of device.
That would be fair from Samsung
I'm surprised that samsung isn't running a promotion.
