Please help me. My device shows 396 MB as free space yet I am not able to install a 3 MB app. Why is it so? To my surprise, it show 98.35 GB memory under the head "Used space". How come I have used 98.35 GB?

If you are doing only for the Gallery application, yes it's very safe. All you will loose are the settings and the thumbnails gallery app generated for your quick viewing.
Any apps data/cache is limited to what it creates, the images and videos are your own it won't touch them

Heyy thank you so much. It solved the problem. Now the free space is 652 MB almost double! What other app data shall I clear at some intervals so that I won't face this problem again?

Only gallery app data causes this problem as far as I know, rest of the space should be from your apps. If you clear their data you will loose any settings or changes you have done to/through them

Thanks! By the way I have one more problem. When I see images from WhatsApp in landscape mode, an area equal to that of notification bar gets cropped. What could be the problem? I am uploading the screenshots of a photo in portrait as well as landscape mode.
Thanks in advance.

Hello guys, my galaxy y has just received an update just now. When I checked the version, it is still Android 2.3.6 but my build num changed into DXLC1. The only change I notice was its lockscreen, where you will swipe from a smaller circle towards a bigger circle to unlock the screen. Did anyone received an update?

Yes but I can't update at 15% it reboots the system again ...
And when I'm back in the android OS it gives me an Error that the update failed...
And since I reflashed my stock kernel my phone doesn't want to update via KIES anymore....
Update failed happns due to custom rom or custom kernel ...

I have just update my 2.3.6 to XXLA4, stock rom.
First, the Win7 won't (recognise?) the device as Samsung, and after few minutes, I got a message, saying, that I should disconnect the device, and pull out the battery, restart my device, update it again, it's take 3 times with the same error...
But when I uncheck the box, saying save the contacts, music and stuff, then it's start to "move" the update to device.
Sorry my english.
Updated through KIES
Even I'm on stock rom... It failed to flash ... Rebooted at 25%.

the only changes i noticed are:
1. the screen lock became more ICS-like
2. text size got slightly bigger
3. new kernel version

If i want already to factory reset . what will ido to return to my default 165 MB internal memory ? . I thought partitioning involves the use of a card reader but i don't have one :0 anyways i'll buy a card reader first on CD-R-KING

performing a factory reset does that exactly but it doesn't return to exactly 165mb because as we all know system apps that are pre-installed in the your phone consume data too, like about 17-27mb (estimated)
may i know the status of your phone?? You should know that you have to be rooted in order to use app2sd or link2sd to their max potential

Most of the android apps can be moved into the SD card , but some of the apps can not be moved. They use up the internal storage.
To move all apps into the SD card ,we just need to install an app call App Installer ,which allow you to move all apps into the SD card . And most important is that this application doesn't need root .
Procedure:
1. Download App Installer from the link
https://www.dropbox.com/s/64go1if08o389hx/AppInstaller.apk?dl=0
2. Put it into your SD card and install it on your phone.
3. After finishing installation ,open App Installer.
4. Wait for it to"check files".
Warning : Do NOT exit the app until it completes checking files.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5. Close App Installer
6. Go to settings >applications >preferred location
7. Choose removable SD card
Now it is finished. You can move all the apps from the internal storage into the SD card .You can move it in settings >applications >manage applications and move the apps to the SD card .
*This application also allows you to install apk files in your phone.

This is just App2SD with different interface. Only apps that support "Move to SD" option can be moved to SD Card. Apps like facebook/Twitter can't be moved to SD card.
Link2SD rules in all situations though it requires root, it is worth it.

Thankyou for the lesson, but this only works for your model or version. my phone doesn't have them options. it is however a useful app. I can export the app(s) installer on to my external storage.
Works on LG Optimus NET (P690)
I followed the directions and it worked. The only hitch was that after moving facebook to the SD card it would always report a network connection error. Moving it back to internal memory allowed it to work again.
I un-installed it and re-installed it (defaulted to SD now) and now it's working.

I was using the stock Rom and it said 1.2 gb free of internal storage, I flashed the cyanogenmod mod nightly and wiped everything and it still shows 1.17 gb free.
As you can see nothing is using the memory.
I'm confused as to whether the 9 gb of available memory is a permanent thing, I thought it was a thing from the stock Rom with the bloatware.
I deleted a clockwork mod folder and it cleared 7gb.
I'm not sure why it took up that much space. But I'm still wondering why it only gives 9gb and not 16 on cyanogenmod

I know exactly what took up all that space, it was your many backups of your rom which you made in Rom Manager or in

Samsung's partition which is used for the rom is shared by the user memory.
You can access all of the phone including the rom partition once your phone is
rooted and you install a root capable file manager like root explorer.
There are many different ones at the play store to choose from.
But I think Root Explorer is by far the best and easiest to use.

CM10.x rom is a lot smaller than the stock rom. They are between 300MB to 400MB including GAPPS.
Stock roms are at least 1.6BGB and custom roms can range from 900MB to 1.2GB.
If you have root access which I don't know if you do, use a file manager like root explorer
and navigate to "/" which is the ROOT directory of the phone.
There you will see a 4-5 screenfulls of of folders and a lot of files in the / root directory
Most of those folders and files are various different parts of the rom on the root of the phone.
Some of the folders are simply shortcuts and virtual locations to the /sdcard and external sdcard.
To be able see all those protected root locations with the folders and files the phone must be rooted.

See the other thread you're already posting in about this. I've answered you there.
Edit: to further clarify, loading a different ROM doesn't change the partitions (unless noted). You'll still have the same partition size for apps on one ROM as you will another. Debloating won't shift the 'free' space from one partition to another.
First off the phone doesn't really have 16 GB storage, regardless of all the bloatware Samsung has, the phone has no more than 12 GB internal storage, and 2+ gigs is taken by the system partition. The only way to reclaim that would be if someone made a tool to re-partition the system size like they did for the HTC HD2 but I doubt it's going to be a easy task. So until then, even installing Cyanogenmod doesn't reclaim the space at all.

Do you have ext partition on SD card? You have to do that manually, either in recovery or on PC with one of the partition programs. Careful though, backup your data first, you will lose it when partitioning.

I did in recovery, link2sd works with other roms, now i have installed ultimate HD 5.01 and it works, I tried also Z1 Honami.
I would like to go back to Banstalk, because i like this Rom, so i am thinking not to use anymore link2sd.
So it's an issue with rom itself, not link2sd. Go ask in official rom thread, maybe someone will fix it.

I am also facing the same problem with Beanstalk Rom 4.3.075 on my xperia ray
The ROM is otherwise working very fine, but link2sd is required as I am unable to install many apps due to memory limitation.
I tried reformatting the 2nd partition
tried with different filesystems FAT32 and ext4
but neither helped.
I get Mount Script Error : Mount Script can not be created

i have the same
Link2sd working now on it's own.
After a power on link2sd gives an error
That 2nd partition was mounted after boot thus not accessible by system and advice for a quick reboot. Quick rebooting solves the problem most of the time
But I have observed even if I ignore quick rebooting it starts working on it's own . i m puzzled
Thus I have linked only the not so important apps.

In my phone , when i restart i have an error message that link2sd couldn't start , so i must restart again.
After the second restart seems that link2sd works.
So i must always restart twice the phone. It's quite boring.
Yeah
That's the problem
But you can save some second by choosing quick reboot from link2sd rather reboot from power menu.
I am new to ROM flashing this is my first custom ROM .
I read somewhere about init.d scripts which perhaps initialises things at boot time. Maybe if something like mounting 2nd partition at boot is done it may resolve it.

because the link2sd says it is not working because the mounting was done after boot.
Can anybody help,

Yeah, you explained the problem very well, "link2sd says it is not working because the mounting was done after boot".
Have anybody any idea to solve this problem ?
Raga34 something to tell you
It seems my problem is over
You must be getting Mount error on notification area after power on clicking on which gives you following screen. Just ignore it for sometime maybe an hour or two.
After that clock on "recreate Mount scripts". May not work at first time try few times. If you are lucky you will get following screen.
Then it should work flawlessly. I have done phone power off on thrice and each time apps linked without any error. Please let me know if that helps.

i installed the rom again , but link2sd doesn't work, i was unlucky and the screen you posted dindn't appear. Now i have ultimate hd 5.01 . it works good.
I had the same problam
I installed this great rom a few weeks ago and I had the same problem.
At first it was because I accidently deleted the 2nd partition, but after that the problem was because of the xposed framework.
I don't remember exactly but I deleted all that garbage like the tweaking app and the xposed framework and now it works fine.
After Junior Passos released his modified version of the Moto Gallery app for the new Motorola devices (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-play/themes/app-moto-gallery-v540034-t3617488). He modified the icon to be round just like the pixel icons. I modified it further to make it look like the new Motorola design language for their icons. Now the Gallery looks like it came straight from Motorola.

Nice! Can you have a look at the external storage permissions bug? I tried but can't figure it out. It needs more permissions not only in the androidmanifest.xml . The Moto X Style, Force etc don't need all this because the gallery on those phones is a system app and then the app does not need "dangerous" permissions.

Nice! Highlights work, it still has the external storage bug, it doesn't delete the picture from the sd card even though it deletes it from the gallery. And also, now there's no "SD card" folder in the gallery, only "Camera" and the new camera app from Motorola doesn't show the picture if you swype to the right (only happens if you save the pictures to the SD). If you can solve those 2 bugs you are a star!

It works fine if you save the photos on the internal memory, it doesn't work if you save them on the memory card.
I can try it for you if you play around with the code to make it work.
Kind regards
