Welcome To the Complete Guide for Just About Anything for T-Mobile Galaxy S4!
All These Guides Have Been Brought To you By: AndroidRootz.com and techfanatic9's YouTube Channel. Enjoy, Subscribe, Check out the Site!
I have complied all the guides I have made of my T-Mobile Galaxy S4 and wanted to share it with the Android community. This thread is intended to help you easily find tutorials for your T-Mobile Galaxy S4. All the guides come with a video, complete step-by-step guide, and pictures for each step to make the process easy as possible, I hope you enjoy! :good:
I have personally tested every single guide I include below and they are all working since I tried them!
How to Root T-Mobile Galaxy S4 using ClockworkMod Recovery method
How to Reset Binary Counter/Flash Counter - I HIGHLY recommend you do this before unrooting your device!
How to Unroot T-Mobile Galaxy S4 using Windows
How to Unroot T-Mobile Galaxy S4 - No computer required! (Mobile Odin - Useful for people with a Mac/Linux OS or if you can't get to a Windows computer)
How to install TWRP custom recovery on rooted Galaxy S4
How to do a Nandroid Backup - I HIGHLY recommend you at least do a Nandroid Backup of your "stock" Android ROM so if anything goes wrong while your installing a custom ROM you always have a backup!
Learn how to install a custom ROM! - Take your phone to a new level by learning how to install custom ROMS.
How to get free WiFi tether on T-Mobile Galaxy S4 - I have been using this method for over a year and have never been charged!
How to get Google Wallet on your Galaxy S4! - This guide will show you how to bypass Google's restriction and use the Wallet app on your Galaxy S4!
I really hope this helps you, especially people who are just getting starting into the "technical" side of Android. I will be updating these guides if/when I release more....stay tuned.
Amazing. Thanks yechganatic

This is Great!
Being new to T-Mobile service and the S4, this will be very helpful to me.
I am Rooted with TWRP and would like to know if my S4 will accept the Port when I most likely port over my number from Verizon in a few days.
Update:
I just installed Wifi tether for Root Users, and it's working perfectly with security encryption WPA2-PSK protocol.
As a note, don't use the Android Wifi tether app with the Green icon.
Use the newer version of the Wifi Tether for Root Users app with the Gray & Yellow icons, version 3.3-beta2
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I had installed the Green icon version first and didn't see the option to change the device, so I looked further.
This tip may help others, as I've seen posts in other threads by those installing the older version, saying it isn't working.

Btw, can my S4 accept the port from Verizon while it's rooted with a custom recovery? Tmo is going to port the phone number over in a few days.

Yes from my understanding you should be fine. They should only need to use the T-Mobile sim card and possibly your Verizon sim card. They shouldn't need to use your Galaxy S4 to port over the phone number. Assuming your going to get a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 version.

For clarification, I currently have my Verizon S3 active on a Verizon account.
I purchased the S4 on T Mobile yesterday to give it a trial run.
T Mobile issued me a new phone number.
In a few days I'll be porting my Verizon number over to my S4 on Tmo, and closing out my Verizon account, and just wanted to make sure the OTA port will take.

I am 90% sure that you will be fine, but if you think you might run into problems you can always unroot your phone, wait for the port, and then re-root your S4.

Been experiencing Wifi tether dropping out after a few minutes of surfing on my pc.
My pc shows connected to the internet, but then it says connected but no internet access.
I removed Encryption in case that was the cause, but the issue still persists.
Turning Wifi Off then On again on the S4 fixes the issue until it happens again.
I thought maybe I was losing 4G LTE connection on my S4 but it showed strong signal bars and Wifi tether was active.
Any ideas?
It just happened again while typing this post.

Yes, I followed them as per the op.
I was still having issues so I followed the Settings changes in the thread below.
You can see my post over Here
I like the idea of using a vpn at both ends, but I assume Tmo can't 'sniff' out stuff even if you don't use a vpn. But it's good security anyway all the way around.

Hmmm...I'll try to find a solution, but if I can't you can install a custom ROM that has native tethering hack built in. I believe Wicked ROM has that feature.
root + CWM install did not work
I'm new to the S4 but not to rooting. Followed the how to root instructions and it failed to work. After successfully flashing CWM with Odin, I reboot into recovery but it is not CWM, it is the phone's stock recovery. I don't have root access and CWM clearly didn't install, even though Odin says it flashed successfully. Any help would be appreciated.
Thankyou!

Smartphone Mobile Hotspot in the T Mobile - My Account app is showing mb usage while tethering with Wifi Tether for Root Users.
When I activate my vpn it is Not showing any usage.
The above is while using tether with the changes in my previous post, which includes a link to the thread.
Those using the tether should check it for themselves to be sure whether there is any sniffing going around

I've done the following (keep in mind, Mine has an issue with the "What the Hell! Your phone takes back control over the WiFi...."
But! If I start it up a second (or third) time, it seems to stay on
But, here are my settings:
Device-Profile: Samsung Galaxy S4
Setup Method: Auto
Encryption: unchecked (but I'd assume this to be your preference)
SSID: your preference
Channel: 01
MAC Spoof: unchecked
Don't disable Bluetooth: Unchecked
Access control: unchecked (But "should" also be your preference)
Keep Alive Checking: unchecked
Shutdown timer: unchecked (should be preference)
Idle Shutdown: unchecked
Literally, All I've really done since installing it, is change the profile to S4, and set the SSID to something different than AndroidTether.
I have to fight the What the Hell error a couple times, but it does work, and I'm able to get back on WiFi normally after I turn it off. (My old GS3 failed to enable the WiFi after running WiFi Tether, so each time I had to restart the phone, but this works fine)
Also, Side note:
The OP, contains a link with the WiFi Tether setup, but that page includes a link to the app in the Google Play store, which is now unavailable. Either on the computer, or on the phone, Google Play no longer shows this app in the library. Download it directly from the code.google.com site:
https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Reset flash counter before or after root?
I have a stupid question. It says in the OP that Reset Binary is suggested before rooting. But the tutorial for resetting the flash counter asks for SU privileges, which I won't have until I root. Can someone clarify this for me. Thanks.

You probably didn't put the bw~ driver in your /sdcard root. Also, check wifitether's log to see if any steps were highlighted "red"

I have the .bin file in the folder & location you specified, fwiw I also have checked the forum search for issues with the wifi tether and didn't see anything regarding how i'm having issues.
i figured a new post with what my situation is with having root, flashed recovery and working wifi N would also be unique
Wifi Tether log shows no red log entries
am i supposed to do something in recovery?
I did some reading around and apparently Infrastructure mode isn't available for Incredible yet (which would explain why it won't show up on any of my wifi devices) instead AD Hoc mode is only available, which i didn't test
AD Hoc does work but has anyone gotten infrastructure working on the Incredible yet? if not, thats what my problem is, and i'll be patiently waiting for the update to come through
Edit: I got it working!! Infrastructure mode now shows up on my TP2, going to test other devices later
Yah, As far as I can tell...even with the newest pre-release version from the google code site Infrastructure mode isn't supported on anything running our firmware...I hope it comes soon too, would be much better for supporting other devices.
** O.K. So I went back and downloaded the PRE 8 wifi tether installer from google code and it worked like a charm. In the event anyone else encounters the same issue I had, then this might lead you in the right direction.**
I used REGAW's guide to root my OTA Froyo'ed EVO. I installed the Wifi tether app, and all super user permissions are in place. The tether shows up on my laptops available wireless networks, but I'm unable to get connection to the internet once connected to the Evo access point. Is there a particular radio, kernal or some kind of special setup I'm overlooking. I searched these forums thoroughly and didn't find anything, so forgive me if there's a posting somewhere I might have missed. Any help is appreciated.
Just to note I'm using the wireless tether app from the android marketplace.
why cant people post info when they ask a REALLY vague question like this
-which rom did you flash
-which wifi tether app are you using.
there really is only one to be using - 'wifi tether for root users' is the name.
-does your laptop actually connect?
-how do you know its connected (yes this is a trick question to see if you even know what you're doing)
With the very limited info given , pre 7 should be the one to try and try access control. As is documented in many threads for Wifi tether. I have never taken the one from the market always went ot site dirct. We'll see if we get more info of rom, kenal????

newer builds are nice but frankly i use the one from the market and it works fine.
especially on a stock rooted rom.
I didn't post more info as I suddenly decided to try the pre8 install and it worked. So don't worry your pretty little head now there buddy. To anyone else who posted w/out the 'tude, thanks anyhow. I'd be happy to post my specific details for anyone who might need them. Thanks again!
I'm having the same problem.
I did the 2.2 OTA, unlocked by the guide and flashed Unrevoked-Forever. When in the stock 2.1 build (rooted) Wireless for root works great. As soon as I flash a 2.2 ROM (so far I have tried VirusXrom, Fresh, EVO.Zone, a plain 2.2 ROM, BakedSnack, AVA, and a few others) wireless for root stops functioning correctly. My laptop and desktop can see the AP, just not connect to it. This is the case for ROMs that ship with WFR and versions downloaded from the market.
If I flash back to my nandroid save of 2.1, WFR from the market works great.
I have also tried Kings #6 kernel and updated to the latest radio/wimax versions. I thought that I might be losing root some how, but if I open a terminal and type su I get dropped to the proper # prompt.
Any ideas?
Try going to code.google.com and then to the android wireless tether section. Hit the download tab and download the pre8 build of the tether. I used Android Sideload Wonder Machine to push the .apk to the phone, and after that my devices (laptop, psp, other mobile phones) connect to my EVO Android Tether access point w/out problem.
Sweet. That seems to have worked. I guess I just needed pre-pre8 versions are just, for some reson, incompatable with some aspect of our configurations.
Posting over my tether for proof-positive.
Awesome! Glad to hear that worked for u! Have fun..

I successfully rooted my Galaxy Victory 4G LTE, heavily using an existing Samsung Galaxy SIII root method. I have attached the files below (including a batch file).
I personally didn't use this batch file: I just put together all of the commands I typed into the command prompt, so I'm ASSUMING it SHOULD work? But if you're scared and want to perfectly replicate what I did, just manually type in the commands (you can edit the .bat file in notepad and it'll show you them all).
STEP 1) Install Samsung USB Drivers
hxxp://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/201211/20121110030255344/Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0.exe
STEP 2) After it finishes installing, run the batch file (RootDebugfs.bat), follow the instructions, and plug your phone in when it says "Waiting for device to be detected..."
STEP 3) Enjoy the root!
I went into the Superuser app just to make sure everything looked ok, and it did on mine. Then, I tested with Titanium Backup, and I was successfully able to uninstall Google Wallet (which you normally can't).
At some points, my laptop wouldn't detect the phone if it was doing stuff and then needed to reboot or something, so I would just unplug the phone, wait like 5 seconds, and replug it.
I would have posted this in the development section, but I didn't have the rights to (haven't posted 10 posts), so if an admin could move it, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Works beautifully! Thanks a lot. Just followed your directions and used the batch file. Now I can finally take screenshots!
Windows kept saying it wasn't able to install the device drivers each time the phone rebooted, but that didn't seem to affect anything.
I can confirm this method works perfectly. Good job niemasd! Here is a real link to the files you suggested:

Ok I'm more than a little stump here. I'm use to rooting w/ a tar file via odin. Instructions here are not really clear. I found a tar file in the zip file, do I flashed that in Odin or do I just flash the zip file in the stock recovery???
Disregard. I'm now rooted. didn't realize the rootdebugfs was actually in the zip file
unroot option
Do you have instructions for unrooting should the need arise?
CWM recovery
Here it is: CWM for the Galaxy Victory. Use Odin carefully. If you need further instructions use the search feature please. Thanks to JT for testing and having the gnads to be a tester in general!

I installed the drivers then ran the batch but it never said ""Waiting for device to be detected..."
I just kept hitting Y or enter until it asked "UID and GID should both be 0. Are they?
I replied y the first time and it just kept asking for me to press a key to continue. I ran it again and it sent me to the end telling me it wasn't rooted.
I'm going to try this on a straight PC because I'm doing it on a Mac using Parallels and Windows 7 and that might be the issue.
Yep, just as I suspected. I couldn't use a Mac with Windows 7 running inside of Parallels. I had to use my girlfriend's PC and after suspending the antivirus program I installed the drivers then ran the batch and it worked as advertised beautifully, My father (81 years old) and I thank you !!
He rarely uses the tether and it's costing him a bundle every month. When I showed him I could use free tethering on my iPhone he wanted me to get his Android to do it.
Does anyone recommend a good working wifi tethering app? I'll buy it but I want to make sure the carrier can't track it.

Thanks. I did a search for "wireless tether" but it doesn't show up in the Play Store. I installed "easy tether" and even though it's not wireless it's very fast and always works. Very simple to use too. I'll keep looking for a wireless tether that doesn't let Sprint know he's using it.

Great thanks! I installed it but even though it says it's compatible with my phone it just hangs there when I activate it. It says tethering and changes color but it never shows on my iPad or laptop for me to connect to it. I'll try to play around with it to see if it's some settings issue in the app.

I've purchase victory 4G several days ago and it has been updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.1
Is this method still relevant to this update? Anyone?
Thanks the OP root method worked fine! Any semblance of a ROM out there? And where can I pick up a recovery? Anyone try mobile Odin? Thanks.
Okay, so, yes I'm a noob. I've been up literally all night trying to figure out why my signal did not connect after flashing Synergy for my SGH-T999.
So I read a thread saying to do a full wipe, back up then reflash the rom. (I still did custom installation with zigggy kernel, so i'm unsure if it is the kernel or not)
My second time flashing the Synergy Rom I have signal but says 3G and H+ ... i have a 4G data connecton and it does browse pretty fast but the most bars I get in my house at 1-3 and normally i get atleast 4, and constant 4G connection.
I'm unsure if it is necessary to flash a Radio. In the past I've bricked my phone and screwed up the signal permanently by flashing the wrong radio, lost my RSA keys etc.
I dont want to make the same mistake twice so here I am.
EDIT: After all that time I find http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...e-why-dose-my-new-rom-say-h-h-instead-4g.html
From what i understand H+ doesnt mean anything? Its just the Rom being more accurate instead of saying 4G? Is this true?
It also does seem like my signal is weaker then before, could flashing a new radio/modem fix this?
The rom showing H is probably ok. Check in the rom thread but some devs did this because its more accurate.
As for signal, as long as you have a T999 model, you can safely flash any modem in my thread. Ive yet to find someone reporting a bricked S3 so long as they read the OPs and follow directions.
Many of us have flashed dozens of times!

Thank you so much sir I didnt expect such a quick reply. I will definitely check some modems out, any specific one you recommend? like a universal choice? i might turn into a rom flashaholic x)
EDIT: Wait a minute, i dont have the Wind T999, i have the regular T999. Your thread says "Only flash if you have T999V." Will this affect anything?
Actually the thread is for both the T999 and T999V. The T999V modems are towards the bottom and clearly labeled for each of the Canadian carriers.
Dont flash those. Just the ones under the T999 heading. Theres a bunch.
As far as best one. There is no universal one. Different ones are better for different people. Depends mostly on location which is what the map is there for. See if anyone in your area has posted any results.

Will do! i came upon the UVLI8 and UVMD5, i'll be trying all kinds of them.
But upon trying to put this onto my phone via USB. My computer is not detecting my phone, this was working the first time i flashed the Synergy rom. -_- Do i have to reflash again? I have all samsung drives, kies, debugging enabled. ive tried it in different ports and with debugging off and on, rebooted my pc and phone. Definitely an after effect of reflashing.Any advice? Im searching all over currently, if i find anything ill post here
I've had something similar happen on my phone. After a flash, it started failing to detect the phone correctly.
Try disconnecting your phone from your PC, uninstall the Samsung USB driver on PC, then re-connect your phone.
It should start installing a new set of drivers for your phone and get it running again.
I would uninstall kies from the compyter and install the USB drivers only. See the link in my sig if you need them.
Personally I forego the cable and use a wireless ftp transfer app. My favorite one used to be called SwiFTP. Its now in the store just cslled FTP Server. Theres a fully functional demo you can try too.

Advice taken from both of you i now have AirDroid and will be looking up SwiFTP as soon as my phone boots.
I had just fixed the issue, upon this thread http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/626480-s3-charges-via-usb-but-not-recognised-pc.html
KUDOS AND CREDITS TO Nacos from xda!
"1. Uninstall any previous instance of Kies/USB driver
2. Download the latest Kies, specific to your S3.
3. Download Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 (I've tried newer versions but they all failed)
4. REBOOT
5. Disconnect from internet (VERY IMPORTANT!!! - forcing Windows to install local drivers ONLY)
6. With the phone disconnected, install Kies + USB drivers downloaded in steps 2,3
7. Connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
8. Reestablish the internet connection. "
Also as a bonus i was told to power off my device, take out the battery, SD and SIM and insert again and reboot.
Upon all these steps phone fully detected on windows as soon as drivers installed (with internet connection disabled)
P.S. No matter if i restored from a backup created before this problem, it would not be detected thats how i knew it was a driver issue.
I have a Samsung s4 4.4.4 which I just rooted for the first time yesterday. Now my wireless Internet does not work. Not just my house, but my job or anywhere I have tested. Google play stated no connection, browsers won't connect or any other programs. I can use 4g lte but I don't understand what happened. In my house all my other units connect with no issue to include my wife's Samsung s5 non rooted.
Can anyone help me?
I'm still stock, I only rooted.

How did you root?
I used Odin v3, then patched cf auto.
No one has a solution for this problem? If I unroot, would my wifi work again?
Rooting will not bork Wifi ,unless you used the wrong model auto root, maybe?
Pp.
Try reflashing firmware
Reflashing the firmware? Like 4.4.4 or what

Yes, you can download the firmware from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/firmwares-official-mdl-mk2-nb4-t2816508
Use Odin at least version 3.7.
Some people have found that you need to flash once, remove the battery without shutting down the phone, and then re-flash a second time for everything to take.
This should not remove any of your data, but you may want to make a Nandroid backup beforehand, since you have rooted and have a recovery installed.

Well I won't lie, for some reason I feel like lose after reading this. I am extremely out of the loop since my s2. I'll search the threads on how to do a nan backup. And I guess I'll also safe my apk n whatever else so I won't lose them. I hope this fixes my wireless issue.
Can someone be able to tell me why this happened if I only rooted?
Or should I just install a better rom than stock?

If you have TWRP or CWM recovery installed, you can boot into Recovery and there is an option is each of those to create a Backup. If you don't have either installed, and you are rooted, you can use TWRPManager or GooManager from the Play store to install them, or you can use ODIN to install them.
As to the why? If you installed the CF-Autoroot for your phone model, there should be no reason that WiFi would have stopped working. I have stock 4.4.4 on my phone and used it to root mine, and many many others have.
Also, you may want to verify your model. Use Samsung Phone Info from the Play store to verify the model, bootloader, baseband, etc.
