Hard bricked Jtag Testing Phone needed. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi, I have just received my Jtag box, and I only have two jig adapters, one for for T989 and N7000. I would like to test this Box, and I have no phone on hand. if someone would like to fix his/her phone for free, then pm me. or if you would like me to list this service on ebay, I will do it with a minimum price that ebay will allow me to list it. and here is another thing, if you live in Houston, TX. then you got it.
I am offering two phones to be fixed, and I am not offering free shipping. so let me know guys if want this.

i have 1 bricked

Lol, that was since last year, now i have my own store. anyway since you replied, i can do it for you for free.

Not really that way, but since you the only one who replied to my post

Hmm it's not currently bricked but I could see what happens if I flash a skyrocket ROM on this [emoji6] [emoji6]
Nah I'll donate my repair to someone else who needs it [emoji2]
Do you mind if I do that?

Flashing a ROM of such similar hardware won't brick...hell it may even boot. If you wanna intentionally brick your phone, overwrite the radio, Odin partitions etc.

Yep. Porting from skyrocket is easy enough though.

Guys, you can flash Skyrocket roms... Best to follow with an appropriate Hercules kernel.
I only flashed Embryo, but people used to do it plenty.
Of course everything comes with risk in this game... And I in know way am stamping it with a guarantee.... But if a few other t989 vets would chime in, I think they'd agree.
Now one thing.... The only experience I have with this is TouchWiz based roms. I never flashed a skyrocket Aosp rom. So take that for what it's worth.
It was no different. Do a nandroid backup first. Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik... Flash rom, flash kernel. Gapps if aosp, reboot. Needed t989 kernel simply because without it, rotation was messed up. Not an issue if you don't use landscape. Of course, you keep your t989 radio as well.
So, to be fair, I'd get confirmation from someone about flashing Skyrocket aosp roms.... Cause I only know TouchWiz roms are no problem.

I will also add... Why? Aosp roms are Lol very similar, plus or minus a few options. I don't see the need to flash other roms. But that's just me.
With TouchWiz it was different... Mostly on a theming standpoint.

Has anyone attempted to install one of the att roms on our phones

I know that we can't use the international version roms on our phones but I saw that on the att side they already have two roms. I'm curious if they would work on ours. Since I'm still very much a noob I don't have the knowledge to get my phone working if it didn't work, but maybe one of the more experienced ones here might be able to. So anyone tried yet?

roms dont flash radios, only the stock images do
I asked this question in the international community a few weeks ago and now it looks like it's been answered. Thanks to cashyftw flashing a rom.

AT&T ROM's work on our device that's great.
They are the same phone so everything should be fine UNLESS a radio is involved.
This is good news --- that means rom development should be STELLAR. Has anyone tried on a SPRINT S3 yet?

Files will need to be changed between Sprint and Verizon versions to account for different radio technologies.
Kernels should work across all of them though. It should be a situation similar to the Nexus.

What roms will work on Tmobile S3

I was thinking of putting the omega 9.1 rom on my S3 but im not sure if its compatible with my Tmobile galaxy s3. I have already rooted the phone so all i need to do is download the rom and flash it. Does anyone have the answer to this question? Thanks in advanced
I believe that ROM is only for the i9300. Unless you want to brick your phone...i would stay away from that ROM.

Thank god i asked first. Had it downloaded and ready to go too. Which Rom would you suggest? Looking the best overall stability and speed. I would also like to keep all motion settings and touchwiz. I dont mind touch wiz at all. Just want things as fast as possible

+1 for CM10. I really can't find anything wrong with it. Working great for me!
Redrum Team Sonic FreeGS3 R4U1 is what you want if you want to keep all the TW motion settings.
I've been running it now for several days. Awesome ROM, great battery life plus performance. Pair it with Faux 007 or Morfic Trinity kernel. I guarantee you'll be very happy.
ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750270
Faux kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785466
Morfic Trinity kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777472
Also before you go flash crazy. Make sure you read up and understand all the risks. Lots of poor unfortunate souls has lost IMEI after flashing.

You may need to wait for awhile as the developers are going to start releasing roms that are compatible soon, I have already hard bricked once and soft brick once. keep in mind, this phone has not been out long, and there are only a handful of non-stock roms that will actually work. Wait for them to show up in the T-mobile GS3 thread. I learned the hard way.

New to the T999 Coming from Galaxy nexus

Hey xda i'm new to the Samsung Galaxy S3 but not new to rooting/flashing roms.I'm coming from the Galaxy nexus and prior to that the GS2.I have a few concerns and need some advice..Is rooting completely safe? I've been reading up on people losing there imei's after flashing roms and also about the flash counter..I've never had to worry about that those before I seen there's fixes but i'm still a little skeptical...I cant afford to hard brick this gs3 I still have the Gnex which i will hold onto but my primary is the T999..Any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance..
Read and read is the best advice I can give you. There's ways to backup the IMEI in the dev section, and there is a way to root & flash w/o tripping flash counter.

i've been reading but im holding back from jumping the gun,I wanna understand a 100 percent first..I spent the whole weekend reading but im still confused about the Imei's stuff,it seems complicated..I know not to flash any roms for the other variant gs3 unless it states for t999.
I rooted and flashed my phone within the hour of getting it... anything that you have read is old news and/or user error. Follow guides and you'll be fine, I've flashed well over 50 times (nandroids, kernels, modem/radio and roms) switched recovery through terminal, all without issue at all.

Its safe to flash now. After rooting with Odin, just do a backup of your IMEI. These have been random, I personally have been flashing at least every other day with no problems.
If I remember correctly you don't even have to be rooted to back up your IMEI. So you can do that first if you are paranoid about it.
Also just to be safe use TWPR instead of CWM recovery. Many people reccomend it and I actually like it more!
Either way though, i say don't let what is a relatively small risk keep you from the joy that is rooting and flashing!!

Hey man whats up i also had the gnex now the wife has it running aokp and trinity the gs3 is awesome i would first before anything back your imei up there is a way without root. Then after that throw twrp on there it also mounts and uses ext sdcard. I would back stock rom up. I would recommend freegs3 and trinity kernel especially with spice (colors) you know what i am talking about : p i feel that the stock rom with all its features kicks ass. So i use that and cm10 but find myself coming back to freegs3 it has all stock features theres an ics theme i use which is awesome and in freegs3 op. Also on top of that there is a working google now where everything works including voice. So everything just works killer theme . Google now and trinity.....its a win win. Oh also running nova launcher...edit if u do trip flash counter by using a different root method use Triangle away...its by chainfire and worked for me i had one on the counter now it is back to 0 or no flashes...anyways no worries dude just read up and be careful. Also if u are going to listen anyone else listen to mt3g very knowledgeable guy. Good dude
What does the flash counter do. Does it just void your warranty. I had the htc amaze before my gs3 and a g2x before that and I never even heard of flash counter before now.

Google it for a better answer but yes that's kinda what it does, it tracks how many times you've flashed something through recovery.

Yes if u go to do a return or warranty exchange i think mainly samsung checks for warranty exchanges or if they have to fix something on your device. But now if u just grab triangle away from market it will erase the counter back to stock....which is awesome . Happy flashing
Edit...if u flash something through recovery you are fine it only ticks the counter if u flash an image through odin.

Sorry, but flashing a ROM won't change what carrier you're on. I'd ask moparfreak, I think he's flashed to Page Plus
Trolling from my Cricket-flashed Galaxy S2 E4GT using Tapatalk 2
No ROM u flash can change the carrier label except aokp roms....without going in and fixing it yourself messing with systemui.apk or is it framework-res.apk? I think its framework.... but on an aokp ROM u can change to a custom carrier label to whatever you want from the ROM settings, ROM control, custom carrier label. Truste my phone saying sprint aggrevatted the crap out of me too!

You can also find the proper eri.xml for your carrier to put in /data... Works for me on aosp ROMs (shows Cricket on lock screen and pull down notification).
The files I needed to get mms to work on cricket (including eri.xml) were found in the og Epic4g section but work for our device too. Maybe poke around in that forum for some more ideas? Might find some Page Plus stuff.
How this helps
[Edit]Keep in mind this has nothing to do with the actual flashing of your device to another carrier... It's just to display that specific carrier name, but isn't really necessary.

OK, thanks guys, I've decided to give him the slimkat rom I mentioned earlier. I just have to get home first and prep the files for rooting then installing the room, I'm most definitely going to teach him how to do it him self. If this were my note 3 I would've tried so many roms by) within the first 24 hrs of having the device lol.
If he wants AOSP, I've tried most of them and, in my opinion, Sinless ROM GooglePlay Rendition is the best. SUPER FAST. Or Gummy Rom which is also great. If he wants TW, I would go either Jedi or DarthStalker although they're both JB. TW kitkat I would go with MyRom, but its a bit finicky.

One of the roms that I like personally is X note rom. It's a rom for international version hence there's a need to flash a fix file.
Currently it's based on kit Kat and hence I am waiting for a proper kernel and the fix file.
This rom has some good features that are useful for me

Hmm, I love AOSP, but I'm not sure I'd load up AOSP for someone who can't figure out how to do it themselves. More than likely, it will not be as stable or feature rich for the end user as compared with TW. I would highly recommend Tweaked 2.0. It's stock based, and all the options/features implemented are completely stable and do not interfere with each other. Tweaked is what you can load for your significant other without having to hear them complain 3 days later about how their "phone messed up".
Jedi Elite v5 w/ Saber.
The ROM is super stable, solid and clean. Battery life is excellent.
Look no further...just flash this ROM.
