Just directing your attention to this [MODEM] The Modem Thread over there in that section...
We might get a new radio and modem with the official release of 4.2.2 coming soon I think.

Thanks dude!
I ran both MA4 and MC3 on my device and they were neck and neck as far as speed test. I was just wondering if MC3 was newer than MA4.

Are you using MC3?
Have you noticed any significant differences between MA4 and MC3?
SeNt FRoM oVeR THeRe-----> GALAXY note2 FaR FaR aWaY!!!

Very little difference. ..
The OTA was likely the addition of more RIL files...and the radio image to support them..
And even more likely the update supports rural areas or new locations that sell ATT products. ..
You may not see any difference at all....g

Yeah as mentioned above they ran neck and neck on speed test for my area. I think MC3 messed my wallet patch up though.

For some reason I guess I'm not seeing the latest modem in that thread. The original post hasn't been updated since November 12th. Where can I find the download for the latest modem?

Either one is fine. ..
The radio image is not dependent on framework or rom version. .
The only possible conflict that may occur. .is the lack of the associated RIL files the radio image uses. .
AOSP roms do contain RIL files. ..but not the complete package for the respective carrier. .
This explains the reduced signal strength. .(lack of source code from Samsung to create a complete AOSP package)..
And also the loss of service in areas otherwise covered by drivers and files included in the stock firmware image. .g

This was the reason why I decided to explore radio/modem options. I always seemed to have gotten lower signal after flashing an AOSP rom. I used to be on stock and data was much faster (noticeable too).
So would you say that these modems are worth flashing? Do they override the RIL files from the AOSP rom?

Only a flash and test of the different modem will tell you if any improvement was made. ..
And doing so will generally not change any libraries within the system. ..g

Flashing other device roms

So a friend of mine told me i could flash roms from other carriers is this true? He has the gs3 from t mobile but i don't want to flash a rom from t mobile if it could possibly brick or cause problems.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
He's wrong. Unless a ROM is ported, it runs a risk of being incompatible and could potentially brick your phone. Even then, a ported ROM may come with certain bugs &/or stability issues.
This is especially true for ROMS intended for the International GS3.
ROM - OdexedBlue
Baseband - LJ7
Kernel - Stock LI3

.Not true. May come with bugs but flashing roms for another US variant of the S3 is safe just make sure there are no modems in it. As long as its for a US Gs3 than its safe. Open the zip and if all you see is META-INF,system and boot.img you will be fine flashing it. Bugs can be expected tho and your screen orientation in landscape mode will probably be flipped. The part about the intl version is true tho. Dont flash those.

Here is a good example: there is a note 2 ROM that is said to be usable across all carriers posted in the dev section. However many users see a lot of bugs with flashing it (signal drops is a big one). Phone works, just not as expected or usefuly.

Not a good example as the note 2 has many differences and is alot harder to port(hence the instability). Theres alot to change like screen size, a different processor etc. This will at least run and data will probably work but its not guaranteed. It will not brick you though.

That's good to know. I knew about the baseband part already, but got the rest of my information from reading the sticky thread in Android Development about how not to brick your phone. I've flashed a tmo kernel (Morfic's Trinity) and experienced excellent results - right up until I tried taking ng a picture and discovered that the auto rotate was reversed and everything was upside down in landscape.
ROM - OdexedBlue
Baseband - LJ7
Kernel - Stock LI3

So if the auto rotation is backwards is there a way to fix that? Or is it something you would just have to deal with? I like some of the t mobile roms he uses but if its buggy i probably won't even bother. How can you tell if it is an international rom or us?

If there is a modem in the zip woukd it be safe to just remove it and flash a sprint modem after the initial rom flash or transfer a sprint modem into the zip file prior to a flash? Where would the "META INF" file be located to verify the flash would work?

META-INF is a folder at the base of the zip. If there is a modem you can remove it and replace with a sprint one to make it easier. You could also remove it but that might require a edit to the updater-script and that can be a pain in the ass if ur not real familiar with the process. If you choose to remove it then flashing another is not needed since itll be untouched. but as said probably easiest to just replace. I recommend 7zip if u need to do that

[Q] ROM Compatibility

Maybe a newb question but if all the Galaxy Note 2 devices are the same (hardware wise), can we just take a N7100 or sprint or att rom, unzip it, and remove the radio.img and kernel.img and flash over our cleanly wiped stock ROM? I'm just curious what it'll take to get some of the better N7100 ROM's going on our device.

Basically,
N7105, AT&T, T-Mobile Note 2's are compatible with one another.
The N7100 ROMs will nuke other Note 2's because of difference is hardware. DO NOT install. In it's current form, it will nuke your IME and you will not be able to get any service (I learned the hard way).
Once the N7105 gets AOSP, the other should quickly follow suit due the congruent hardware platform.
so i can go to the att section of xda adn download whatever roms there and install on my tmo version without any hassle or modification?
Pretty much yes. You'll have to install a T889 kernel and Modem after you flash it. Unfortunately, the AT&T ROMS don't really have that much more offer us.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
So we have 3 versions?
1: N7100
2: N7105/Tmo/ATT
3: VZW/SPR
And the differences would be in kernels and radio's, but ROM's should cross?

Yes bur ROMs are not compatible across devices in different numbers (from your list)
I am going to start trying to build AOSP for the TMOBILE version. Hopefully something comes out of that. I'll need an AOSP kernel first.

Correct, they would need ported from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc... Whereas if they're in the same "family" all the differences lie in the kernel and radio. That stuff can be pulled out, reflashed on top, etc. Easy day

[RIL] AT&T I-317 UCALK7/UCAMC3 RIL Update Packages Collection CWM/TWRP Compatible

I have created a update package from the UCALK7/UCAMC3 for the RIL portion, TWRP or CWM recovery is required.
What is RIL:
RIL is like a driver for the modem, it allows Android to talk to it. Some might say RIL is not something you will need to update, but I throw this out just in case you want to.
Please update to the corresponding modem before you update to this RIL Here's the thread for MC3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274854
Newest RIL is UCAMC3
Instruction:
1. Download the package attached in the thread
2. (Optional) Make sure MD5 checksum match on the downloaded file
3. Transfer file to phone or SD storage
4. Reboot to recovery and flash away!
LK7 MD5 checksum: 29a7401a147849c2051b19f05753ba4a
MC3 MD5 checksum: c91fe2b1c0324a41b9c40f7ca767d8bc
Does this stick like a modem throughout different ROMs or does it need to be reflashed after a clean install?
This will not stick if you reinstall or use a different ROM unlike modem which is on a different partition.
Okay good to know. Do you think this will work with AOSP ROMs?
How would one revert just their old RIL then?

Updating Radio/Modem

Hello guys, sorry if this is a noob question for you Sammy guys (I'm more used to Nexus devices), but I was wondering if it is possible to update the baseband version on this device? More specifically, I was wondering if I could update to an international radio/modem? If not, does anyone know where to find the latest radios for each device. I tried searching but only could come up with an older thread for the version I already have (MDL). On my Nexus One and HTC One S we could flash any baseband we wanted, international or carrier release. Thanks!

No.
Do not flash any radio other than the ones made for your device. At best it won't boot. At worst it won't let you Odin back to the correct radio and it will never boot.

Yeah but a new modem update by itself will probably never be a super improvement. So you probably aren't missing out on much.
Its not like an updated modem will let you talk to the Moon or something.

Spot on. Apparently, T-Mo is supposed to release their 4.3 update early to mid November (consult General Section for source). Then and only then would we be able to use a 4.3 TW ROM without cell network wonking out like a drunk. Hopefully T-Mobile could be at least 1/3rd useful this time and actually push out an update for once.. (you can feel my hatred towards carriers...... =.=).
EDIT: SOURCE THREAD, towards the last few pages starts the talk of the rumored T-Mo Nov. release.

There is no M919 Tmobile 4.3 dump.
That's the problem, the only dump and the flashable zipfile rom
available as of yet is for the international versions of the S4's.
Flashing an international version of the 4.3 rom into our M919
phones even if it worked properly we would be losing wifi calling
and most like the LTE feature plus who knows what else.
You are wrong there is a t mobile4.3 dump for very long posted in general section : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478553
Sent from my SGH-M919V using Tapatalk 4
We CAN run the TW 4.3 ROMs and have full LTE as normal (except for Wi-Fi calling b/c that's a T-Mo specific feature), the only issue is that data randomly cuts in and out. I don't understand how I could run AOSP 4.3 with no issues but 4.3 TW gives problems...
The thing is, only us T-Mo users have data issues, not the international or any other carrier. So it MUST be the radio version that is the cause of the problems, which is why we must wait for T-Mo to finally release an update...
Has anyone dare to flash international MJ5, JM6 modem? I mean our bootloader is unlock right? If it don't work can we just flash back our old modem? Just a thought.

For me, updating my modem has increased both signal reception and data speeds. You can always go back if you see a drop in performance.

Confusion about modems + custom recoveries
Hi,
I have an i337m from Puerta Rico that I'm running on USA T-mobile. The radios are the initial release and I'd like to update them. I'm running Wicked V10. I've successfully (I think) done the AWS hack to get the GSM HSPA+ bands.
a) Do/Can I flash T-mobile S4 radios?
b) A little confused about flashing radios on a custom recovery. I tried flashing the MK2 radios but it obviously checked the boot loader when it failed.
Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't flash a modem made for a different device, even if they are similar.
It might be that it i sokay, but you need to research the hell out of it first and make absolute sure.
Don't just take a chance and see what happens.
