I was on official ICS till now, and I'm not very familiar with android's custrom roms, rooting, etc. I wanted to get JB via CM10 on my phone, so today I unlocked my bootloader on my Xperia S LT26i using this link (unable to post links so google it) Xperia S : Update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Cyanogenmod 10 on androidlegend .com
It was mentioned that I should be having clockwork mod recovery on my phone and used this link to get it - How to Install ClockworkMod Recovery on Sony Xperia S on android.gs
I haven't rooted it, now it's stuck on clockworkmod and I don't know what I should do! Am i bricked? please help
ps: i used cmd to flash nozomi-recovery.img
Do you have cm10 downloaded on your fone already as a zip file? Or was it last still running ics?

It was still on official ICS, only with an unlocked bootloader, didn't do anything else! I'm a noob to all this so please bear with me
On a laptop/pc. Download advanced stock kernel and follow the guide here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23181182#post23181182
Then you should be able to boot to ics again and be rooted with cwm. (keep pressing volume up when the lights come on on boot up)
Then if you already have cm10 downloaded on your fone just choose flash zip from sd. If not. Boot back up and download the rom before booting into recovery and then flash zip

Is it okay if I directly download JB rom and flash it via cmd fastboot instead of downloading stock ICS and flashing it?
As far as I'm aware you can only fastboot the kernel file. Hence y if you were on ics you need an ics kernel so you can boot up to download the cm10 rom to the sd card

So now I'll need to download stock ICS rom, flash it via fast boot and then download CM10 JB and then flash it via CWM? Thanks for taking your time to help me out..
You might find that just fastbooting the ics kernel will make it all work again as you've technically not changed the rom yet. Just the kernel file. If not just download a stock ftf firmware file. Flash with Flashtool and then start again using advanced stock kernel first.
Always keep a copy of the advanced stock kernel zip on your sd card. It's very useful even if you're on cm10 as some of the cm kernels wont flash properly

go Binary... root it first and then install recovery for xperia s
Hey guys. so i had been an apple guy for a long time n can jailbreak/unlock any phone n firmware as long as the required tools are there and even fix bootloop issues etc.
I finally switched to android and own the international version HTC one X running 4.1.1 firmware . I finally deicided to root my phone . I read alot of forums , posts, issues and watched a lot of videos but still I have some questions that someone should answer .
1. Now I run firmware version 4.1.1 n software version 3.14.720.24 . I understood that after rooting , I can either keep the stock rooted firmware or can flash a custom ROM . I read the cyanogen mod 10.1 has jelly bean 4.2.2 . So if I flash that ROM , will I be able to downgrade my firmware back to my stock rooted firmware which is 4.1.1 ? ( cos in Apple i can't if i don't have the shsh) this is my 1st question.
2. I see that in order to root I should put my phone in charge only but that does not come after i upgraded to 4.1.1 . so what about it ?
3. And what is that about S-ON . I understood a little that it has to do with updating the radio ( idk guess its baseband version as in apple ) version . So if i flash cyangoen 10.1 which has features of JB 4.2.2 , does it require my S to be turned off S-OFF so that the radio version gets updated . N after turning off S-OFF and upgrading to CM 10.1 , can i again restore with my rooted stock firmware 4.1.1 cause this version will obviously have an older baseband version ??
4. And is there a stock rooted 4.2.2 version for HTC one X because when i google , all i get is the CM 10.1 mod and it has those themes, which i don't want to use . All i want is a rooted stock 4.2.2 JB firmware just like a jailbroken ios firmware.
5. I read about unrooting and relocking the bootloader in order to get the OTA updates , but found that many people have issues such as touchscreen not working n stuff like that . In iOS , i can just do a fresh install of the stock firmware and get the device updated with OTA updates . But in android , this is another chapter . Also I read that many people will actually release a updated stock ROM which I can flash instead of waiting for the OTA . The htc one x is about to get an update in august to 4.2.2 . So is the CM mod the only version with 4.2.2 or is there a stock rooted 4.2.2 version anywhere .
Sorry for my reference with Apple n iOS in every question but relating to that will make me understand the whole process well . I guess a person who has dealt with Jailbreaking iOS can answer my question effectively ..
Expecting crisp n clear replies
1: yes you can revert back to your original stock rom, just make sure you make a nandroid backup before flashing CM !
2: rooting the stock rom is done via the custom recovery. You have to install a superuser.zip wich can be found here on the forum. That will root the stock rom and you can use apps that require root access
3: s-on/s-off has not a big relation to radio's, our hox can't be made s-off. The most important thing is that you must flash the boot.img (kernel) seperate from the rom via fastboot commands or a tool
4: 4.2.2 only exist in a aosp form like CM. There is no sense based rom based on 4.2.2
5: in order to update the phone when a HTC update rolls out is to restore the stock rom nandroid backup and flash back the stock boot.img (wich is in the nandroid backup folder on the sdcard) and also flash back the stock recovery. Need links for that just PM me
Cheers

hey thanks for answering my question mate . I get a clear picture now . .
ur ans for the last question . How many backups are there totally . From what i understood , in order to flash , first i need to use fastboot in my pc with the boot.img of the ROM . then using my phone , i need to install from the custom ROM zip file using clockworkmod . god its so confusing . pls throw some light on this process mate .. Also after rooting , when do I get to install CWM ?
CM is already rooted.
You need to do this
1: unlock the bootloader
2: flash the custom recovery
3: MAKE THE NANDROID BACKUP !!!
4: flash the boot.img from CM
5: make a full wipe in the recovery (except sdcard ofcourse !)
6: install CM.zip
7: install Gapps.zip
8: reboot
Done......
Hey thanks for the help. Now I have rooted my phone successfully. Am still on the stock rom. Will flash to CM rom tomorrow I guess.
And regarding the OTA update. I just created a nandroid back up. So in order to update OTA, I am supposed to boot the boot.img of the nandroid backup using CMD, then restore the backup in Clock work mod and then go for the update right?
And since I haven't flashed to CM rom yet, if an OTA comes, can I just update?
Am planning to wait for a few days since the official JB 4.2.2 update is gonna come so mite as well update the OTA and make a backup before I install a custom ROM.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
To update you need to flash the boot.img from the nandroid, restore the stock rom, flash back the stock recovery
But as long as you stay on your stock rooted rom you only need to flash back the stock recovery !

sry to keep nagging you about this mate . .But in the nandroid back up I took , it has a boot.img , recovery.img and some more files .
So in order to perform OTA update ,
if on stock rom , then i should use the recovery.img and in CMD , "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" should be done .
If on custom rom , then i should use the boot.img in CMD , " fastboot flash boot boot.img " .. And then use recovery.img in CMD with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and then perform the nandroid restore .
Pls telme if I am right mate ?
I promise I won't ask you any more questions
No you can not use the recovery.img from the nandroid backup, you made the backup with a custom recovery so the recovery in the backup is a custom one and not the stock one ! Check in the general section for the collection of stock backups and read the OP carefully. There are also all links to stock HTC recoverys.

I've flashed successfully with stock rom my semi bricked phone
I have flashed the rom - Pure AOSP 4.4.2 Alpha2 into my Xperia S. How can I root the phone now? The rom has no recovery.
use method 1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2634382 to add dual recovery... then flash latest supersu from chainfire's website through recovery (make sure to flash the latest version or it won't work) - also, read the latest responses in the rom's thread, it's all there
