What USB keyboard and mouse did you use with Smart Dock and Note 2?
I use a logitech keyboard k400 and mouse m570, I can also just use the touchpad on my k400.

When you use the Logitech K400 keyboard with the touchpad without using the mouse, does your Galaxy Note 2 screen go blank (off) or stay on?
It stays on, but I use screen standby from the playstore to turn it off. I believe you have to be rooted though.

Cool. I was looking to keep screen on to use the touch screen from time to time. And use the touchpad on the keyboard as the mouse instead of a mouse.
Also when the Galaxy Note 2 screen is blank the Play Movies & TV Shows app shows blank screen when playing, but still hear audio. Mouse does cause Galaxy Note 2 screen go blank. Which is one of the reasons to get away from mouse.
Thank you for the information.
This reminds me of webtv. With some of the same issues. Everything is so big. The physical keyboard and touch keyboards don't work that well together. Especially with the spelling. The Android OS is designed for touch screen. The Smart Dock and monitors are not designed to bring touch screen experience witin the larger screen. Android OS is more closely similar to Windows 8 than Windows 8 is to previous MS Windows. Both Android OS and Windows 8 OS are designed for the touch screen and yet still can work with physical keyboard , mouse, and touchpad. But both are better if you have touch screen with the physical keyboard , mouse, touchpad, etc. That is what I am noticing. That even with good size monitor and keyboard with touchpad, this OS is still better functioning with touch screen. Which is why I still like having the Galaxy Note 2 touch screen available to use.
Describe your experience with the Smart Dock.

Ok so this may be a silly question for all sorts of reasons but....
Does anyone know if there is a remote desktop app (Windows RDP), that allows you to use the optical trackpad on the Desire Z as a mouse?

From what I'm reading, you want to control your computer with your Vision; try RemoteDroid from the Market, I use it daily.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
No this is not really what I'm looking for.
Remotedroid is to use the Vision as keyboard/mouse for a computer. Useful in a situation where you are sat in front of the computer screen.
I want a remote desktop client (using windows RDP/terminal services). As I am controlling a PC that I am not near to (30+ miles away).
Currently I am using 2X Client, which works fine but what I am looking for is a client that allows the optical trackpad of the Vision to be used as a mouse on the PC you are connecting to, rather than just tapping the touch screen.
Use Teamviewer. Its a lot faster, safer etc etc. Doesnt use RDP though.
The thing is that the optical trackpad on the Desire Z is a 4-way trackpad, meaning it goes up, down, left, right. Pretty much like using a D-pad as a mouse
From my experience i found myself using the screen as a way to move the mouse. The handling is quite weird. Your finger doesnt simulate the mouse, meaning the mouse wont be where your finger is. The mouse can be at the far left part of the screen but you can be moving it by using your right thumb on the screen on the right.
I might have confused you on how it works. Trying it out is the best way ;(
I'll give it a try, problem i'm finding is i can't tap accurately enough to hit the thing i want.
Then you will find Teamviewer, very finger friendly . I have thick fingers myself, i almost threw a Dell Duo on the wall the other day trying to double tap on My computer The only "drawback" is that you need Teamviewer installed on the computer as well. Once you have installed it you will get an ID (permanent) and a Password (temporary). As long as you dont restart the PC you will have the same password. You can set a static password to one of your liking.
sounds promising thanks.
In case anyone else sees this thread looking for the same thing.
Xtralogic's Remote Desktop Client provides trackpad support as a mouse, though it is only 4 directional due to the hardware (you cant move diagonally) it works quite well.
It is a paid app and fairly pricey at around £15, but i like it.

Has anyone managed to connect a Bluetooth keyboard using the HID protocol? This worked on Honeycomb, and it looks to be supported in ICS too, but I'd love to hear from someone who's actually gotten it working.
(I've got a Stowaway Ultraslim HID keyboard that I'm totally attached to, and I'd like to be confident that it will work with the Galaxy Nexus before buying one.)
Thanks!
Alan
You can see me use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse here:
Brilliant! Thank you so much for posting that. It's great to see.
Best, Alan

Yup, it's a grandfather clock that belonged to my great grand father.
Also I recorded that at like 1am so had quiet surroundings.
This may not be a timely response. But i just tested this out on my nexus. I have a thinkoutside stowaway Bluetooth keyboard and i sucessfully synced. Steps taken
1. Put keyboard in pair mode (ctrl+ blue fn key + green fn key) green light in top row of keyboard will begin flashing slowly.
2. Hit search for devices on nexus screen under Setting-> Bluetooth. Keyboard will appear with keyboard icon and mac address.
3. Click device on nexus screen.
4. You will be instructed to enter a passphrase on the keyboard. Passphrase will be displayed on ur nexus screen. Hint: the pass phrase is 4 digit number so dont forget to use the blue fn key to type as there are no dedicated numbers on the stowaway keybaord. I had to repeat step 3 and 4 twice as the first attempt said incorrect passphrase even tho i had enter it correctly.
Not sure about HID but I bought my gn a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the one for honeycomb + and it even has android specific hot keys. Super simple to pair and works perfect when I am connected to my HD tv through the mhl adapter! God I love this phone!

Is there some sort of toggle or shortcut that can activate/deactivate s-pen without detaching the included s-pen?
Since I'm using BT S-Pen now, but I want to keep the included s-pen in place.

I hesitate to guess, but maybe because you cannot talk to regular pen and look like a normal person?
(Still wouldn't mind getting one for free)

my Note 8 is a phone... and i ain't gonna hold it against my ears to make/answer calls. So i need a bt handsfree.
Well, this pen is not HANDS-free, of course... but i like it better than having something hooked on my ears everytime.
Besides, the size of BT s-pen makes it much more comfortable to use than the standard s-pen.

How does it work for you?
Does anyone know of a widget toggle that turns the S-pen layer on and off?
This would be good for those of use with the BT or 8in S-pens.
I have the Spen layer off to save power right now but i have to pull the s pen out each time i want to use my full sized digitizer pen.
it'd be much more convenient if i can turn it on and off directly from my lockscreen or homescreen
hi
+1 for a "S-pen" SHORT-cut or toggle.
I bought the bigger spen (with eraser) for my US wifi note... and would love to have it...
I just ordered a s pen with holder too. Looking for something to toggle s pen on/off as well

I just leave mine off all the time. That way I can use either without having the pop up menu.

There is switch (Battery Saving) in s-pen settings, which enables hardware pen switch. Simply uncheck it and you may use freely your BT pen with original pen in tablet.
Another theme, same pen, my question to you - is your pen HF function working correctly? I have problem with tablet's deep sleep mode, HF disconnects in this case and i cannot receive incoming calls... :/

I don't recall I'm having that issue.
The problem I'm having is that sometimes when the pen is out of proximity, it doesn't reconnect automatically. This doesn't happen with my other phone (N4).
Yes it can connects to 2 devices simultaneously.

Found a solution the other day. Use the Hardware Keyboard Action in Secure Settings.
I have been able to pair an MS mouse. But it get disconnected when screen times out. The only way to get the mouse working again is to pair? Is there a way to keep the mouse connected? Can anyone recommend an alternative mouse that works?

there's a setting that keeps the screen awake when your kb or mouse is connected.
i remember this came up when i paired my mouse the first time, make sure you check it.

looked for the setting, but appears it's not readily shown after your mouse / kb is paired.
so try this:
1. unpair/forget your BT mouse
2. re-pair/set up your mouse again
3. you should see an entire screen just before the set-up concludes that asks you something like "Keep screen awake whenever your mouse is connected?"
it's literally just a single question at the top of the screen, and a "confirm" dialogue at bottom (poor use of space, Samsung! lol)
