Earphones provided not good enough:( - Sony Xperia ZL

Being a huge Sony fan ,,,I had huge expectations for the stock earphones provided with Xperia Z/ZL,, but I'm just not pleased with the quality of the earphones provided with these phones...:| . These earphones can be great for indoors (easy listening),but they are very poor while traveling:-S...They just don't provide enough bass and isolation from noise, also treble is too high..I tried maxing the clear bass switch, fiddled with some other settings but I didn't feel any difference.Does any one have the same complaint with these earphones??

If you're not happy with the included headset, then why don't you just use another one?
I only used them for a short period of time and then I bought the Smart Headset, because I wanted a remote with volume buttons. The sound quality of that headset is very decent.

Depends on which ones you got... the MH750 is pretty crappy

This was because Sony generally provides pretty awesome earphones(I had a HPM-77 Earphones which I got with my old w995)..so I was disappointed with these earphones considering that they are provided with flagship.models.

problem isn't with the earphones. They are awesome. It's the walkman app which is lacking. I was also dumbstruck when I first listened to songs using that app. Use "power amp" it makes a world of a difference!! I have it as my default music player app. It's the best out there. And the bass is way too much for my liking. I have to turn it down so that it doesnot affect my hearing

I think the walkman app does a pretty good job,,even I installed poweramp and I didn't notice any noticeable difference in the audio quality, also the same was experienced while earphones were used by other mobiles and devices.. the quality of the earphones is definitely not what you should expect from a flagship model from Sony

The amount of bass and isolation on in-ear headphones is strictly related, and both are related to the diameter of your ear and the way you use the headphones.
It is pretty simple: the more tight the in-ear headphone is, the more acoustic isolation you got and the more (a lot more) bass you got.
Sometimes you got bad luck with the size of the plugs. One may be too big and the other won't seal your inner ear correctly.
You may buy a cheaper product, but it will sound better because of the better sizing.

I think there is a problem with the headphones that came with the phone. I use the MW600 BT in the gym and they sound great!!!! What other phones can you use the ZL with?? Anyone try other ones?? Thanks.

High expectations, for what amounts to a free pair of ear buds... Uhhhh... Good on you bud. Expecting good sound from ANY earbud is a bit of a lost cause on it's own. Though if you use something like Equalizer you can get things to sound MUCH better.

Yoy should know that every human have different shapes of ear hole, I tried all 3 buds wich included in complect, and I was pretty surprised whith the sound of the smallest one. Now installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213618 this and sound pretty cool ^^

hey buddy, i've passed for the same situation. not enough bass and weak noise isolation.
but i made an modification in the headphone so that give me powerful bass and enough isolation
my phone is ex300ap. it's so easy and simple trick, if someone wants, i'll make a little tutorial.
the only "problem" is that the phone makes a little "pump" when you pull off from ears

Don't buy headphones with mic or handsfree... the device will reject it with an "accesory not supported" error. Sony Ericsson doesn't allow to use external handsfree headphones by hardware.

Motorola S9-HD. Love these on my Play. Everything works exactly as expected. Music pauses for calls, wireless, deep bass (for earphones) and clean, crisp stereo sound. I'm in love with these, and I've had them longer than I've had my Play.

Actually if you can stretch to 8.99GBP (from John Lewis, it's probably similarly cheap in other countries), Philips SHE-3590 go in-ear and are better still. :good: There's a thread on head fi about them (or 3580s, which are supposed to be basically the same). Overall nice bass, clear details and lots of blocking out of outside sound. I keep losing this type of earphone, so I have tried lots of the cheapies, including Gumy and Marshmallow.
I have a Sony XB-500 that is quite fun for the Play. The bass is deliberately overpowering and makes the earcups vibrate. It's not everyone's cup of tea for accurate representation of music, but it's fun and intense when things explode on Asphalt or Giga Wing... "Come on!!!" It's not a bad attempt to get an arcade experience on a phone.
My favourite overall headphone to my tastes is the Sennheiser HD25-1, but I'm parted from that now Really nice monitoring headphone that is good at being punchy and lively as well when it needs to be. It clamps the ears quite tight as its sold to DJs who don't want it to fall off their heads, but it eventually gets more comfy with use. The aforementioned Audio-Technica M50 is good too.
Bang & Olufsen A8 headphones.
Great sound for their size! Much better than this beats headphones that can only produce bass and nothing more.

Xperia S music Xperiance

I 've been using this fone for 2months and quite disappointed with music quality and loudness. Stock headset is **** and I went for Smartheadset mh1c. That seems to be "OK " . But still loudness lacks by atleast 10-20%. Any way to fix this. What is your music Xperiance with Xperia S? Plz share your Opinions and what headset do u use with SXS? I 've used LG gd 900 crystal earlier and it is a Dolby fone which still beats many existing fones IMHO. Thnx in advance.

I have two sets of earphones, a pair of Sennheiser CX300, and a pair of Shure SE215. I gave away the earphones that came with the phone.
CX300 produce a nice crisp sound output when connected to the SXS, it lacks in the bass department, but I'm not a basshead, so I don't care that much. I use flat EQ with this set of earphones. Volume is good. I think I never go over 70-80% of the total volume, unless, I'm rocking all out. 100% volume is loud enough. I don't need more.
Shures are overall better earphones, instrument separation is greater, and although they lack in the high freq range, I can't say I miss it with the EQ leaning towards treble boost. Bass is deep, but not too much to overshine other frequencies. They are way louder too, with 80-85% volume being as loud as the Sennheisers, 100% volume hurts.
I only use FLAC files, compressed mp3 sounds awful on the Shures, with some 320kbps being the exception.
Then my loudness issue might be because the both headsets theat I have never fit perfectly in my ears. Thnx btw
Sent from INDIA with love <3
Yeah, it might be because you don't get a good seal with the eartips you are using. Try to swap them to see if it helps. In ear headphones don't sound as loud/good if you don't get a good seal from the tips.
I just need correct buds. Any IDEA where I can find them?
sent from INDIA with love <3
Well, I can only advice you to get earphones that come with foam tips. They provide better isolation.

like i said earlier im using Yuin PK2 which are highly recommended. but somehow i tent to agree with the thread starter.
when using my buds with my pc/ipod the music quality is Awesome. but when connecting the same buds to the SXS the quality instantly drops!!!
i have no idea why it happens, im using original softwares on my SXS never"hacked" it or changed anything since im new to this all concept of smartphones and not really wanna start messing with it without the proper knowladge, heck i cant even find the Equalizer!!
any ideas?

HTC One X + Apple EARPOD == Authentic Sound

Hi ,
I just used my HTC one X with apple new earpods and really the sound was amazing , the punch that was missing in the original earphones is there .
The control of volume up and down was not there but the center click was working fine and with app "Headset Button Controller" you can have all the options available.
I really don't like IN-Ear's so I had no option but to stick with the original but now with the earpods I think that now I have a better option availaible.
Please share you experience with your original earphones and if there is more better option available in the market coz this one cost over Rs.2000. So if anyone can suggest a cheaper option but not IEM's please.
In Search of Authentic Sound Experiance on HTC ONE X ---

Yes I agree they are sort of In Ear but they don't stick in ear like other IEM's do . So that's why I am a little biased towards these. Beats sure has an amazing sound but they have that total IEM like designwhich kindda annoying for me and they are too expensive for my budget

I would again Suggest the Sony MH1c or the TDK EB 950. Both come with MIC's and you can pickup both of them from Ebay. Hongkong seems to be a cheap place from where the Sony MH1c ships and i found ebay.co.uk having discounted TDK's
I "DO HIGHLY" suggest drop by a store and try out stating your budget and the type of stuff you want and let your ear test it out for you.
IMO in-ear is in fact the thing to go now, it won't drop off your ear unnecessary, nice noise isolation and with the correct fit you can always wear it comfortable.
I would suggest EP630i for lower budget pretty nice base for its price.
honestly i still feel IEM is the way to go.

Can confirm they're good highs and mids, bass is so so. You don't really need an eq to appreciate them but it helps. I will say though they are NOT long lasting, 3 months and broke. That's everyday listening and taking good care of them.

Sorry Guys missed one point ..
Does anyone has a permanent solution for this cracking sound in the music player , with beats audio switched on. Still having this is kindda annoying, a noise constantly keeps poking you.
Read this on some thread -
1) Restarted the phone
2) Switched on the Radio
3) removed the headphones
4) then play the music without headphones
5) Attached headphones :good:
Problem solved for a while but still you will get that sooner or later. Youtube has same problem which is more constant.
Switching off beats makes sound lil boring , the thump and the volume goes . If it is fixed in Jelly Bean Sense 4+ please confirm the lucky ones who already updated ..

On mission making HTC One X ... an Authentic SOUND experience.

High end earphones for Z/ZL

I´m thinking about upgrading my Senheiser CX300-II since i cannot find the proper sound when plugin them to my ZL, sad as it is the ZL sounds worst than the Xperia ARC due to different DAC they use (Qualcomm).
It´s quite an annoying issue for me, i even thought about moving to another brand or downgrading to my old ARC pal.
Wanna give the ZL a proper chance, i have a modest set of speakers, Altec Lansing, and they produce a real good sound out of the ZL, so something can be done.
I´m looking into better earphones, in the range of 80-120 €, however i have a friend telling me, begging me, to buy the Shure SE425 set, worth 200€, he says i wil discover a new life in terms of sound quality.
If they are that good i might think about it, they are a bit expensive but...
So guys, what do you have to say about this?. can u recommend a gud but not very expensive set of earphones?, don´t need them to have mic or control volume by the way.
I use Klipsch Image X10i with mine, and I swear by it - most balanced & crisp in-ear I ever used (and I tried quite a few, etymotic, UE, etc). I believe its most wide range single-driver headset (I can't really stand multi-driver ones, since they hide fine detail in sound).
It also perfectly works as a headset (with only obvious exclusion of dedicated volume buttons).
I tried it out with a few cans: the Sony MDR-XB600 (for electronic and bassier music) and the Audio Technica ATH-AD900 (for everything else--especially awesome with cellos and violins). Sometimes I go with an amp (Fiio E06 and Fiio E07K) to bring more bass to the ADs.
I think they all sound really good. You just have to be sure that you feed it appropriately. A bad source will never sound good.

Knowing the facts, i mean the DAC...
Do you consider the ZL a good source?
Can a gud seat of earphones get a really nice sound out of it?
Tapatalk+Xperia ZL
Sorry--when I said "source" I was talking about the files. If you stream YouTube all day and play at the low quality levels, it'll reflect in the sound. However, if you play higher quality streams or uncompressed music files--the ZL can deliver a fairly full and rich sound. Granted, it's no Wolfson, but the Qualcomm chip they use is still better than the crappy Qualcomm one coming out of the Samsung Galaxy SII set.
Depending on the application you use, you can play with the EQ (I know the Music app, which I use, has an EQ) so you can flatten the sound, or add highs or lows.
I use poweramp player and sound is pretty good even with the headphones provided.. I thought Walkman was good but then I tried poweramp and it did improved the hell out... Besides a good setting on equalizer does the difference for sure... I use poweramp with headphones and Walkman for speaker...

I bought it from Amazon.de and they packed a really bad set worth 10€
I´m thinking about going for the Sony MDR-7550, worth around 135 €
Those Klipsch Image X10I, i can find them around 180 €, are they that good?

I think worth every penny.
I got them for trial, I would've returned them if they were even a bit unsatisfactory, but sound quality totally blew me away, they were as awesome in detail resolution as single-driver Etymotics, but with tons more bass. You need to choose a proper eartips to get a good seal though, this very important with IEMs as such.
try ultimate ears
Have tried it's of ear phones and found this gem, budget, but a good upgrade from stock earphones. Very balance sound.

Not sure what do you mean by "cleaning"? On ZL I hear no much noise if you mean this. At least not more than I had on Galaxy S 2. I think ZL audio out quality is pretty decent.

It´s always difficult to describe sound.
The ZL sounds kind of dirty, distorted when the volume is up, didn´t find the right EQ balance yet, i remember Xperia ARC, with same earphones i use for ZL, was very easy in the sense, clean sound, heavy, clear bass, superior sound quality definitely, perhaps the best sounding smartphone i can recall (used Galaxy Note, Galaxy 3, Galaxy Mini, Xperia ARC, Iphone4 and now ZL).
Galaxy 2 was perhaps the worst sounding Galaxy S smartphone, they used a pretty raw Yamaha DAC, now they are back to Wolfson.
I love the ZL but i´m finding pretty difficult to get a quality sound out of it, that´s why i´m thinking about buying these kind of quality earphones.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by "dirty", and I hear no distortion and it plays music well.
I don't use EQ because I want to hear music how it was intended, and that's why I bought expensive IEMs, because they are very flat & balanced. They really bring up any imperfection in sound output, but I have no big problems with my ZL.
Btw on SGS2 any kind of postprocessing significantly lowered SNR and made noise significantly more audible, don't know why.

That´s why describing sound is so difficult, every person feels the sound different.
I think i´m gonna give those earphones u mention a try, will buy at Amazon, if i´m not happy i can always return them.
How do you listen music with Z? do you use Walkman?, some other app?

Walkman was alright, but it has no ReplayGain support. So I am currently trialling alternatives. Haven't decided 100% yet, but PowerAmp looks the best.
For those (like me) who don't want to spend too much on earphones, Klipsch (once again) Image S4 are really really good for the price. I love the sound it provides. It's warm and full of dynamic. Really loving them...

So u´ve been using them with Z, happy?
I had these 2 in mind to start with:
Share SE102, around 60€
Klipsch Image S4, around 60€
Getting both and returning the worst one, and them if i´m not satisfied i´ll move to the next level, 100-150 €, until i find the right ones.
Yes, the S4s. On X ZL for me. Truly enjoying the sound they provide !
Try looking for a Sony MH1C. It does sound like a $200 IEM for its $50 price and it comes with all the controls and Smartkey. You must think twice before getting a Shure since you're coming off a CX300-II which is a lot different.

What is the main difference between the Shure and the CX300-II?, i heard the Shure produce a clear sound, with less bass than the CX300-II.
How will u compare the MH1C with the CX300-II?

[Q] Sound Quality of Sony MDR-NC31EM?

Hello guys!
I've been checking all the reviews possible and forum threads from all over the place, but I still can't quite get a grip about the quality of the NC31EM earbuds. I currently use JVC Xtreme Xplosives with my Z3 compact and although the audio quality is quite satisfying and too much bassy, I felt like It was lacking some sort of clarity.
Many professional reviews gush about the quality and value of the NC31EM, but I don't get if that is compared to $100 earbuds like the Beyerdynamic, or just compared to standard smartphone accessories.
So is there anyone who is actually using NC31EM right now and prefer it over more expensive earbuds? And how they actually sound in comparison?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, MH1c gets compared to 200+ dollars valued earphones. And NC31EM is even better thanks to the noise cancelling. So i believe those are amazing. I am a proud MH1c owner. It's perfect.

Thanks for your reply! And would you please tell me about the loudness of your MH1C? Is it quiet and less bassy like the MH750?

Where are these comparisons? IMO the NC31Em is basically a low-end earphone with a noise canceling feature, which jacks up the price a bit. The biggest problem with the Z3c in terms of sound quality is its pathetic output level, which guarantees any earphone will sound quiet.

It has good bass! You should read up on a few reviews on MH1c. But it is less loud. However the sound quality is FAR better. I think you should try one out.

I'm using NC31EM on a daily basis.
My regular headphones is a pair of Bose AE and I can tell that the NC ones from sony lack some of the high spectrum and it is accentuating the bass a little.
All in all these are excellent earphones for commuting or to use during flights or trips. I clearly recommend them.

I often play music on my Z3C when hooked up to 50 Ohm headphones, and I don't find the music to be silent at all. To note here, I find it loud when it crosses ~1/2 of the sound bar, your hearing might not be as sensitive as mine.
