Built In Keyboard - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hi, does anyone know if there is a screen on the built in keyboard that has a set of Arrows, cut, paste etc. (Similar to the TouchPal Keyboard).
Regards

I highly doubt if that option is available in the default keyboard.
but you can try ultra keyboard.
if has all the things that you want + its holo themed..

No but if you disable gesture typing (swyping letters) in the setting by unchecking "Continuous input" and check the box for "Cursor control" you can slide your finger across the keyboard to move left and right. That is the default behaviour.

But that won't give the copy and paste buttons..

It's better than nothing and the screens touch sensitivity is enough that Android's native copy/paste works well. Unlike say a TF201 where moving/placing the cursor with your finger might be nearly a word off or a Galaxy S3 where it might be a hair on target.

If you are not emotionally attached to Samsung keyboard, then Swype has cut/copy/paste shortcuts (swype gesture from Swype key to x, c or v), and cursor controls.

Samsung like keyboard with auto-correct?

I love the size and spacing of the Samsung Keyboard, but I really miss the auto-correct.
I've tried a number of other keyboards but they all have the keys too close together. I have Better Keyboard 8 with a number of Skins, a few Gingerbread keyboards, Swype (of course)...
Any ideas?
Sorry mods - wrong forum - can you move to Themes and Apps?
Samsung keyboard does have auto correction, you have to enabled it in settings, its called xt9, also go into xt9 advanced settings to enable other settings.
I use smart keyboard pro. Has skin to look like any keyboard plus the characters pop up so you can see what you're typing and it has auto correct

I would suggest using swiftkey, best keyboard ive used imo.
Stock keyboard isn't too bad with xt9 on, but current keyboard of choice is the thumb keyboard beta from these very forums. Worth a try.
Swiftkey is second choice for me though.

I like the "stock gingerbread keyboard" on the market. Works a charm and reminds me of my old HTC Hero.

Thanks for that suggestion for thumb keyboard just trying it out and seems very good, I can type pretty fast using this keyboard and it seems fast.

Thanks for all this advice. I've tried out Smart Keyboard and Swiftkey. I like that they both give clear options when I use voice input but what has sold me on Smart Keyboard is that it also has a Retry button after voice input if you don't find a match for what you dictated. I couldn't see that Swiftkey has that. Quicker than cancelling the entry and then clicking on the voice input button again.
Apart from that, I couldn't say that one is better than the other. I haven't done a lot of testing so I cannot say if one is more accurate than the other on finding the right words.

I have always used Swiftkey but Im not sure if anyone else has experienced the missing word correction/choices bar in landscape mode on same apps on the S2. Its there on handcent and messaging apps but not on the default email client. This was never a problem on my desire. Has anyone else experienced this?

Better keyboard

Has anyone been able to install better keyboard from the market? I even tried by direct link and I got item couldn't be found. I have a titanium backup of it, but haven't tried it since I have no root.
The unlocker for better keyboard 7/8 doesn't show up for me either.

If you send me your email I can send you the apk to the dark gingerbread keyboard I've been using from the sensation 4g forums. I think it's better than the stock Samsung one.
Here is a pic

Ya it does more a lil more than the other to but works for me
Better keyboard was removed about 2 weeks ago. The developer got sick of google pulling his apps. If you have a TB backup gran androzip and open the TB folder. In ther find the better keyboard zip and extract it. Then yoh can install the apk. Do the same for the unlocker. Did mine this way and works great

So, if Better Keyboard was pulled then can I share it? If so, PM me and I will get it to you

go to market
search "gingerbread keyboard"
download and install
go to menu > settings > keyboards
enable gingerbread keyboard
go to somewhere where you can type text
press text box, select "input method"
change to gingerbread keyboard.
that's what I did until we get some themed keyboards or a port for the htc_ime (which is the best aftermarket keyboard that doesn't cost money)
I like using SwiftKey, 3. Colors and predicts your words for you.

Swift key x is what I'm using and I love it!
The Nexus S 4G Swype 3.25 version is pretty sexy, and helps save battery life due to its majority black styles. Check it out.
You can Google for the link, and find it easily.

[REQ] Pebble Blue theme for Samsung Keyboard

Hey Devs,
I am not usually into themeing, I really like stock looks often.
But today while using the SGS III keyboard, I suddenly thought How awesome would it look like if the Samsung Keyboard had the same "finish" like the back of the device or the front near the home button.
Horizontal metallic lines - If anyone wishes to create such a theme, I'd be thrilled to test it
Bye for now
I would love a white keyboard like the one on tab

Try the SwiftKey beta 3 from their website. That has a blue theme and it is also a great keyboard. I haven't got my s3 yet but going by previous Samsung keyboards I guess it is a good option

Same to be said about smartbkeyboard pro.
I'm actually using the galaxy theme on my galaxy s3 but it it has many colours and a much better predictive text than the 'bouncy' stock.
Also tried swiftkey which was good but couldn't get used to the non standard layout

What Do you mean by the "bouncy" stock?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
The auto correct for the stock keyboard often changes the words especially shorter ones it abbreviates it with no way of saving your petsonalised words without going into the personal dictionary first
Example being every time I would type in MB or GB et it would place a full stop before it without giving me an option to do so. I referred to it as bouncy as I was constanlty going back and forth to correct the punctuation myself which sounds pittiful but is annoying when you can't type quickly !
The only thing I do miss about the stock keyboard though was that it had an integrated swipe function without changing it in the settings. Now that was handy for texting quickly when you only had one hand

Yes it is possible, you are wrong, play with settings.

So no takers? Thanks for the suggestions on the alternative keyboards but for those of us who actually "like" the stock keyboard is someone willing to take up the task?
It would be highly appreciated.

Keyboard in the market with number row!...

The new jellybean pro keyboard in the market now has a number row option...the spell correction is head and shoulders above the stupid Samsung keyboard and there are tons of customization features. Figured I would let you guys know.

what so special about that?
many 3rd party keyboard have number row.
AI Keyboard has it, Thumb keyboard has it too but also "micro" key. example, you can set it by press one key and it automatically type your email address.

Ummm I don't think so. For starters BB10 offers more predictions. Second, the key sizes are all different. Third, there's no swipe up to select predictions in SwiftKey.
They're similar because they're just soft keyboards but they do have features that set each other apart.

BlackBerry does use Swiftkeys keyboard. Its based off swiftkey, however it is modified by BB for their use, themed, predictions, etc.
That said, its a kick a$$ keyboard, and would love to have it on my N4
