[Q] How to compelete disable google maps on ics - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I update my xperia arc s to 4.1.B.0.587 and of course i disable a lot of bloatware. But there is one particular that i want to disable, that is google maps but cannot disable completely. Here is the issue, after i disabling the google maps, and restart the phone, it seem like the apps are automatically enable it back itself. Is there any solution to disable it by non-root solution? Thanks.

uninstall after rooting

I flashed my ion with the latest at&t ICS then root it with bin4ry's method. It installed the superuser and I can uninstalled apps using the flashtool but when I try to uninstall through the phone I can't (tried it with apps then going to app I want to uninstall, instead of uninstall I only get disable). Am I missing a setting? I remembered when I flashed my phone with the international ICS I can simply uninstall all the apps I want.
Thanks in advance and thank you for all the guides and other things that makes this phone fun to use.
Actually even with international firmware there are some apps you can't uninstall through the settings -> apps menu. For those apps use something like root explorer and remove the apk manually in the system/apps folder. That removes it from your phone.

If you are trying to uninstall system or certain preloaded apps you need to use ti-backup from market. The /settings/apps program will only uninstall user apps not system apps

Uninstall Almost Any System App
Have you ever wanted to remove a system app?
To remove a system app you need to have:
1.Rooted Phone
2.Root Explorer(ex.ES File Explorer)
3.Custom Recovery(or ability to reset dalvik and cache)
4.Apps to Remove!
Let´s get started!
0.Make a backup of your phone just in case.
1. Remove the App´s data.Go to Settings/Apps/All/ and select the app. Then Clear Data and Cache.
2.Navigate with root explorer to /System/App/
3.Select the app that you want to delete and delete it!
4.Then Clear Dalvik and Cache(This will remove the app from the apps list)
5.And Voila! You removed a system app!

thanks for all the answers.
Do you guys know how to get rid of the "yp local search" from contacts? Also sometimes when I go to my contacts, it tries to retrieve an at&t address book.
Promise this is the last question. Thanks again
As Spec mentioned go to /system/app delete whatever you want by using root explorer or something similar

I have uninstalled all att apps and still have that in contacts. Now when I click it contacts force close. Might be built into att contacts apk. Maybe try the one from generic international

Allshare Cast dongle s/w update

Has anyone successfully disabled this thing? I really don't need it and don't want to download it as it's 30mb, and want it removed from my apps in the play store.
Would be nice for there to be a 'hide update' feature.

:good: I agree
I have until I decide to use it. However, you need root to disable, freeze, uninstall the app.

Yes, do you happen to know what the app refers itself as? I've froze all allcast files but this thing still shows up.

Thanx ! Found those files, but using ASTRO file manager I seem not to be able to delete those files ...
My Galaxy SIII is unrooted, could that perhaps be the problem?
If u eant it to be disabled I can probably help u with that.
Just go to settings---->applications manager-----> select the app u want to disable...
Remeber first clear cache, then clear data, force stop, disable, or uninstall
Whichever the option is listed

Thanks for that, but this particular thing does not let itself become disabled, the option is greyed-out. Here and on other sites I read that indeed the only way to have it NOT trun up in Google Play constantly is to remove the FWUpgrade.apk.
But I am afraid I cannot do that without root-access, unless someone has a work-around?
Yea ull need root. It's easy to root, just flash an already rooted stock Rom with Odin.

No root (unrooted) = no way to disable. There is no other way around it. This is true of several third party apps on stock ROM.

I'm having the Allshare Cast dongle issue. I want to get rid of it, but can't. Is there now a solution?
My phone (Mega 6.3) IS rooted, running MegaFireMj2V7X, and yet I'm still unable to do anything with "FWUpgrade.apk" in /system/app dir.
Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.
thanks for this. worked on my note3 w/4.4.2. root stock TW. you do need root and must mount /system RW to delete. joy!

How can I fully uninstall/install root on PA?

Pretty simple question... How can I fully uninstall/install root on PA?
Are you just trying to disable root?

Trying to disable root so I can use the "Three in Touch" app from Three, they've got some ****ty anti-root crap on it and I want/need to use their app sometimes. I wish the author of RootCloak and RootCloakPlus was still updating his app so he could bypass this one too.
I have no idea if it would work on Paranoid Android or not with root disabled (I tried in the Settings > Superuser > Disabled) but I was guessing thats not all of it removed....
You should be able to turn it off in developer options not in superuser settings.

Uninstall System Apps

Hey
Anyone having Problems with deinstalling the system apps too?
I am successfully rooted and tried to deinstall YouTube/maps/chrome etc., but the always come back after reboot.i am trying with titanium backup, magisk debloat and magisk App systemizer, but no matter which way I choose.. The result ist always the same...
As I understood, system apps are on read-only partition, so it's near impossible to get rid of them. I managed to remove them usind adb, but I think it's not permanent solution.

Try this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-uninstall-apps-t3776235/amp/
Open the link in a browser.
When you uninstall an app, you may need to try a couple of times, but it does go away.
Other solution is to freeze the app with TiBackup. Almost the same, the apps even stay frozen after an update.

Yes... Did this too. But sadly it is not a solution for YouTube-vanced...
Agree with all fronts. Very annoying. I'm hoping that titanium is able to fix this issue soon

How did you get google assistant to work in chinese variant?

Hi guys,
I'm getting a problem related to the chinese variant.
-Google assistant won't stay the default assist app.
-Access with voice match is greyed out.
-when i make google the default assist app, google is greyed out as seen in the third screenshot.
-weirdly enough i don't have default assist app anywhere in settings, I can only access it from google (first screeshot)
I already have disabled breeno stuff and some chinese stuff except breeno space.
I tried some solutions online from deleting cache to re-installing google, but the issue is rom related.
What i haven't tried is unlocking bootloader and rooting then making the assistant a system app. So what I'm trying to say is did anyone have it working like a charm, and how??
Sorry for the long issue.
Can anyone help, this is quite popular
its possible, if u have root access and unlock bootloader.
