Hi, i was just wondering if anyone was working on air view/gesture, smart stay/pause/scroll, or multiwindow, or screen mirrioring on any of the CM builds? Or is that kind of a lost cause because its implimented in the tw framework? Thanks.

If you are going to use CM then all of the Samsung air gestures aren't going to be there, so yes it is in the touchwiz framework

Thanks, but i already knew that, i was asking if devs were working on a port, or if they have deemed it impossible because it is implimented inside touchwiz?

Definitely not. TW camera is dependent on TouchWiz.

Shoot. I should have specified that I am on a CM based ROM. Thanks anyways.

The camera has Samsung coding in it so it'll never work with aosp roms

Use an alternate replacement. Personally I like Camera FV-5.
Okay, First of all I just switched from the mopho (photon) to the s3 so I'm new (not to XDA but to this forum)
My Question: Is it possible to get S beam and the motions on a custom rom (im running paranoid android)

Is it possible? absolutely. Anything is possible if you have the means and know how.
The real question is had anyone figured it out yet? I don't believe anyone has. For now tw features such as motion and s beam only work on tw roms. All this is to my knowledge (which could be wrong).

so in future builds of customs roms like aokp or cm10 will we see these features added for the s3?
That is a possibility but it is quite unlikely unless Google standardizes some sort of s beam on their nexus phones.
I believe the cm's goal is to stay be stable and up to date. With the sight account of time that takes i doubt it'll happen till Google makes it happen

An add on to this. As I am new to this phone as well. Came over from the Photon. Do any of the TW ROM's have OC kernels? I've been looking through and am still trying to learn all the S3 terminology

Nice thread hi-hack
But yes, there is OC kernels available, and I believe a few of the ROM's have them included.

Any ROM that is touchwiz based will have these features. These features are written into the touchwiz framework and won't be in any AOSP based builds (CM10, AOKP, etc) soon. They would have to be completely rewritten which isn't an attractive option for most developers.

I tried to keep it mostly related. I'll look a little further for a TW rom with OC kernel.

I had to think long and hard to deliver so eloquent a reply. However, you can't do it because the Samsung camera app relies on these things called frameworks from TW that run the features of the camera. No TW = no way for the phone to make that application work.

Actually. The main reason it the proprietary drivers that they keep secret so that we cannot use the camera from stock touchwhiz ROMs on AOSP based ROMs. We are stuck use the open source ones that we have available.
anyway to get the touchwiz camera on aosp?

I'm pretty sure this is a framework issue so no i don't think so. Not without a great deal of knowledge of coding anyway.

It will NEVER happen, Samsung and Touchwiz legally own the copyrights to
all the apps in the phone which Samsung and Touchwiz developers created.
All the AOSP/AOKP/CM roms have to be made from open source android.

You're better off disabling all the unnecessary features from touchwiz Sammy version, installing a stock launcher, and keeping that Samsung touchwiz framework intact if you want the sammy camera features.

You're BEST off installing Google edition ROM and then adding twiz camera. This is possible because ge uses the Tw framework

This is assuming he doesn't mind losing all the sammy features and wifi calling from tmobile. Far from "best" if you ask me.

Oh please don't start with the sarcastic bs. Obviously I have, still, "best" is very objective in this sense, is it possible? Always. Likeliness of working? Needs the framework.

My point is, the OP wants the TW camera on AOSP, which means he/she is most likely running AOSP already and wouldn't have any touchwiz features to lose.

That's a given, but advice should be tailored to everyone, people who aren't on aosp may not read between the lines, hence its courtesy put disclaimers, no matter how obvious they may be to you or me. The answer had already been answered anyway, all that's left is for the op to give feedback on the advice that suited him.

It's a nice idea and all, but this will likely never happen. With a ton of work you MIGHT be able to get a proof of concept that merely boots, but has zero functionality. We would need proprietary LG drivers (as well as a way to either change them to run on the S3 or rewrite them from the ground up), frameworks and someone who knows both Samsung and LG code inside and out to even have an extremely small chance of this happening.
