[Q] ROM with good Camera - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

I've been flashing Lots of CustomROMs these days hoping that I will be able to find one with a good camera app. CyanogenMod is an awesome ROM but still doesn't have a decent Camera App that utilizes the most of my Camera ( I remember the stock ROM was better). I am here to ask for a good ROM with a good camera app, if there isn't any, I want to know how to flash the stock ROM back and Theme it ? Thanks in advance

If i may recommend one to you it would be Ehndroix III based on 4.2.2. Jelly Bean. Till now no noticeable problems. Just one little bug, that the taken picture turns green, but in gallery it is more than ok. This rom has Bravia Engine2 and pictures, even videos look for me better than on stock.
Another stable rom that's based on ICS is RemICS ux 1.7 by sparta 20 (4.0.4.). This rom is the absolute favourite so far because everything worked flawlessy. I modded it with Ac!d mode (Awesome Beats included) and Walkman player and made it lagfree with Seeder 2.0 apk. This one was also real smooth and it has S3 looks. I'm not using it right now because i like Jelly Beans new features and therefore i switched to that.
There are many more roms, tried some of them, but as you already noticed, there are indeed many bugs.
These two were my favourits, till know perfect for dayly use and also taking pictures or capturing videos in 720p.
Hope this gave you some direction.

One more little thing to Ehndroix III It has problems with wep connections wich are easily fixed by flashing latest Skull Kernel (link is in the posts on Ehndroix III thread). :fingers-crossed:

Best Overall AOSP Style ROM

I recently updated my wife's Desire HD with an AOSP ROM. I hadn't realised just how good Android has become without any manufacturer customisation. After playing around with the ROM for a while I was disappointed to go back to Sense on my One X. The default Google UI just feels very modern and consistent. Sense feels outdated.
I've looked around for the current best AOSP ROM for the One X, or an HTC based ROM with most Sense stuff removed. After looking at several I'm only more confused, all have pros and cons.
So, advice welcomed, what's good for an AOSP style experience right now? (A working camera is essential)
U can use ViperX ROM with apex launcher and geenyous aosp theme, the ROM is super fast, looks like aosp and has got the HTC camera app.
U can alternatively use cm9 or if u want jelly bean, then use cm10 by tbalden.
Sent from my ViperX HTC OneX
I'd suggest domination rom by owain if customization is your thing, or tgascoigne's aosp jelly been port if you like stable, streamlined, stock android, no tweaks.
All roms on the forum have a working camera and almost no bugs thanks to the awesome devs we have working on the HOX.

To everyone saying 'camera is essential' - if it's essential you'll have a proper camera. To rely on a phone is just silly
I find Trips roms are always fantastic. This is his Jelly Bean rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784185, I believe the camera might not be working in the current version, however, a camera app off the market should work fine instead.
Thank for the advice guys, I'll look into those ROMs

I'm a really keen amateur photographer and carry my Canon 60D, G12 or Ixus with me a lot. Carrying one of them at all times isn't feasible though.
There are plenty of times when you don't expect to be taking photos but the opportunity arises. Finally having a respectable camera on a phone (such as the HOX) makes sure you don't lose the moment. It's also nice to be able take photos and email them on the spot.

I don't recommend a JB rom atm if camera is necessary. There are crashes and sometimes the pics taken are gibberish. I had to use my camera to take photos of some documents(no scanner nearby ) and got annoyed with the above problem.
ICS 4.1 roms are best.
Give Ice Cold Jelly a try. Camera is working fine for me. Is it sense camera you want to keep, or just need a working camera?

Because MIUI build their ROM on-top of official releases from the different manufacturers.
For Sense ROM go to viperX or ARHD .. for AOSP go to Domination

Poor Trip is the victim of failure to read. The boot.img and modules (kernel) in his CM10 ROM has everything working fine. He has a 3.x kernel which is not 100% yet. For some reason people keep posting the same kernel bugs that are already known in his ROM thread.
The ROM is fine and I am using the 009 kernel and it's perfect.
I highly recommend cm10 endeavor unleashed by trip raver (tripndroid mobile engineering) fast, smooth and solid reliability.
I didn't think I'd root my One X but I too just got bored with sense. I have a comprehensive understanding of branding principles but I think HTC take the concept too far with every phone for about 4 years having only slight changes in UI. When I buy a new phone I want it to feel new when I use it. Time to drop Sense and come up with something new.

the virtuous infinity with sense 4full makes very good..
i remember that even the MIUI was great
however, you do not see a big difference.
You'll get the best camera quality with Sense ROMs (both GB & ICS). The next option would be CyanogenMod 7.2.0. The camera will never work as good for AOSP ICS and JB ROMs because the phone wasn't meant to run them by design, in the sense that the available drivers and libraries aren't made for AOSP. They have to be hacked, modified and backported from GB and the resulting quality of photos and video, while decent, is not as good as that with Sense ROMs.
The camera in Jellytime 8.0 works great for me. I have had a few problems with previous builds but the new one works great.
It's a tie between MIUI camera and HTC Sense. If you can get a sense camera, keep it. If you can't (like on a non sense ROM), go with one of the MIUI cameras. I recommend #17 (google it). I think they're pretty close in quality and usefulness.
The MIUI camera doesn't run on certain ICS ROMs, to make it work, you need to go to camera settings and change the size in pixels of the picture. Every time you leave the camera, and get back, you need to change the pixel size (change from 8mp to 6, then back for best size).
In JB go to settings and disable HW overlays, or else you'll get messed up lines of color running through the screen.
In GB you should be completely fine.
Hi,
Anyone have an update?
Some new ROMs, stable and with a good camera?
In some jelly time I have found some bugs or problems with autofocus..
Thank you for your reply..

[Q] hard to beat ARHD

Rooted my DHD a month or so ago and havent looked back since,,,
Tried a few different roms but for me i feel ARHD is still the best quality ,, everything works well, camera, audio, battery, speed etc etc
I really want to use jellytime (or icecoldsandwich for that matter) but feel its not quite as stable or dependable YET,,, do you think the camera issues along with a few other niggles will ever be sorted ?
Ice cold is pretty much 100% stable. JellyTime does have problems at times but its nothing a battery pull can't fix
Sent from PACman'd Desire HD
hows the camera in ice cold ? the picture quality is great on ARHD
Me too
I'm in the same boat. Happy with ARHD but been looking at others like Trickdroid, Jellytime, Pacman, Cosmic Sandwich etc, they all seem to have niggles like wifi tether or MMS or little camera issues.
If only HTC would release the ICS source for our device so developers could work without their hands tied behind their backs.
I'd love to move to ICS but the "what do I gain?" question doesn't have a good answer really.
Personally I'm using Sabsa Prime and the only non-fully-feature I can pick out with little bugs are the camera, namely hdr and panorama features don't work. Every else about the rom is brilliant in my eyes and still being developed. I use a different camera apk so don't have any real issues at all. Some posts I've seem refer to arrows not showing on keyboard (even though it's an option in the installer) but I use SwiftKey keyboard which is much better and arrows work with that.

I was also on ARHD until about a week ago because, like you, I was looking for a fully functional Rom with no issues. I finally took the leap and flashed Trickdroid, took me a little while to get it set up, but running great now, not found any problems so far and seems to run just as fast if not quicker. Worth a try if you've got the time just make sure you have a backup ready

is the camera on trickdroid as good as arhd ?
I too enjoyed ARHD for a long time and it is a great rom indeed. Only thing better I found is XGS Série's. Somehow it manages to make battery life even greater than ARHD.
I do admit I like sense, tried TrickDroid too and loved it, but battery life takes priority... Still, both ARHD & TrickDroid are both great roms also :good:

Okay well I might give them a go. I have a Nandroid backup(Apps+Data) I made with EXT4 touch Recovery.
Just on that, if I use the restore backup function, will my exact setup be restored? So, ARHD with all my apps and and settings etc? Just like rolling a full system image back on?
I have copied the backup to my computer as well to be safe.
Me too,
still living with ARHD 6.3.3 from Mike with several mods ...
for camera issues to improve performance, I also applying 0% compressing+720p video mod.
And use Camera360_ version 2.5.5 is for stable of capturing pictures, default stock camera for record video.
For the first time I use dhd, I'm using Android revolution, it's great for speed, camera etc.. but sometimes bored with standard visual, then I try CM7 but the camera was not hopefully for me.. No I'm using back android revolution...

I think the two are comparable. It's a little hard to call, because I had ARHD on for a while and wasn't "playing" with it as much so battery seemed great, but since flashing Sabsa Prime 8.5, with it's Sense 4.1 lite and all the beautiful animations etc I tend to muck around on it a fair bit, even still battery life is great.
It's definitely the best ROM I have tried thus far. (Well for me anyway)

The best one if the one you like the best. Even if that means stock.
Okay this is what I think.
Omega - Super good for themeing. Kinda heavy for a normal user
ARHD - Very close to stock. One of the best roms for me. Never had any issue with this.
monxdified - Honestly, this is one hell of a rom. Very good and slim. Didn't expect it to work well but heck, it does! No problem and highly recommended.
HyperNote - if you like a superb slim rom, this is the one for you. No bloatware. All all to you.
Crash - Too early to say. Still in testing phrase for me.
If you ask me, here's my rating.
ARHD = monxDIFIED > Omega > HyperNote > Crash
But, don't take my word completely! Try it out or something

On the latest builds some S-Pen functionality has been included (don't know how much though). I think they are including the wacom digitizer drivers on the kernel/rom. The stylus is functional, you loose functionality related to TW. And there's some apps that you can use instead of Samsungs, like Papyrus instead of S-Note (which is 10 times smaller btw). We'll see how it evolves, maybe in a couple of months there will be new ways of using the stylus implemented on those roms that you can't use with Samsung stock roms.

first of all, I think this is an excellent idea to gauge other users opinion. I have been using ARHD, and I think it is excellent. I would like to use a very slim ROM which focuses on best phone reception, leaving plenty of memory to watch movies/play games/or emails. Talking of movies, it would be nice to use ext4 format for sd card and permanently setting internal/external sd card. Anyone, advise.
Ive heard that battery life on stock rom is much more better than on all custom roms...

Reading all the good reviews, I dont see a thing that I will gain installing any custom Rom and the best of best is still STOCK.
Hats off to Samsung.. no doubt hiring Steve (Cyanogen) is paying off well.
Right now I am rooted, have CWM touch recovery installed and only installed Multi App mod, waiting for a really temting rom to arrive.
There are great great hard works from developers and will have to wait some more days to enjoy best of custom roms which are evolving..till them Stock rom is perfect!!!

If u want stock look ARHD is the best version 4.2,in aroma gives you the option to flash stock or Perseus ver. 26.1, go with Perseus better performance and battery life.
Some phones faced bugs and some didn't - weird. But, this also happens when you use any ROM and you're 100% sure you flashed correctly. I had no problems with ARHD 5. With monxDIFIED (my current test for the last 5 days) I used it for over 2 days without recharging and I still had about 26% battery. GPS, WI-FI etc. were on all the time. Using No-Frills CPU control to hit both top and bottom end (although top end only allows 1.6GHz, whereas with ARHD5, it allowed 1.8GHz(?))
There's a lot to be said about flashing and wiping et al.
I don really like CM stuff for my NoteII.

Few general ROM-related questions

Hello,
I was just wondering why Sense-based ROMs are always laggy and end up being unusable within an hour of flashing when compared to AOSP-based ROMs which (also tend to be a bit laggy) but to an extent where you can cope with it. I flash the ROMs correctly with the correct kernel and a full-wipe so I'm obviously a bit confused!
I was also wondering which ROM is mostly recommended for stability/general use/features? I don't mind if it's Sense based or AOSP. I'm willing to test out and try to be swayed away from my current cycle of flashing between Provision and Paranoid Android. The only thing that I like about Sense is the JellyBean Animations, the camera and of course, the clock widget. I love the whole appearance of AOSP though!
Thanks.
Get pacman 19.3 with super slick kernel v. Jan 3rd (anything newer breaks camera) and get the app one more clock (they have the sense clock you are looking for )
Pacman has 5mp camera is one of the most stable ROMs beside provision and basically all the features work.
In about 2-3 months we will have 4.2.1 probably solid stable and have everything working (total estimate i have no clue how close we are)
I swapped to evervolv 4.2.1 ATM and it works slick as butter (p1 ion build) but camera is totally broken but i didn't really use it.
Go for what you really want customization / stability / features i chose PAC because it had a lot of that all mushed into one package.
