2013 Altima and galaxy s4 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I used to be able to send and receive text messages on my s2 but on the s4 doesnt work. Any of u have a 13 altima and a s4 and have this working so u can help me. My bt connects fine to the phone, I make calls with no problem. I even get text notifications on top but it wont show it. Way back used to read me the text and I could talk to reply.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Was this a feature of the car or the phone?

I can say on ics everything worked 100%
After jelly bean it stopped working... jelly bean has bean out for a year now, nissan probably has an update on the car.

@elesbb on the car. You dont need nothing extra on the phone. You can use any smart phone.

Are you turning on driving mode? Samsung implemented that in the s3 and that's what reads messages

It works on my 12 Dodge Challenger, immediately after I synced bluetooth with my car the first time I had a pop up asking if I wanted the car to read my messages. Maybe you didnt hit yes....try resetting up bluetooth again and see if it pops up asking you the same.

i think what he was trying to say maybe the s2 or s3 automatically triggered the drive mode as soon as it got connected to the bluetooth, But maybe it doesnt on the s4 and hence turning on the drive mode manually (or use nfc tags in your car to trigger this) might fix the issue where you can control the phone with voice commands.

In S-voice settings, you can configure it to automatically turn on Driving Mode when connected to specific bluetooth devices. That being said, it may not help. I dont think MAP profile is working (or is not implemented) on the S4. S4 IS using Bluetooth 4.0, which may be causing compatibility problems with car radios. I am having all sorts of problems my S4 and a Kenwood head unit. My wife's S2 works fine.

Yea it didnt work, I got a new car now (genesis coupe) and doesnt have that feature(reading tetxs) so it doesnt matter now.

Thank you Google, better late than never.
How is that even remotely necessary? The earpiece is on the top of the phone and the mic on the bottom.

Hey I am also running 4.2... but my call screen is still stuck in portrait. Is there an option to enable it?
Thanks!
Only saw it when in car mode in the car dock.
Not sure how to get into it any other way.

There is a car mode enabling app in play store just don't remember how it's called. This will make stock launcher and dialer rotate as well as apps list

I'm far from an expert I'll admit but pretty sure here in UK where I took the picture its 'Dialling' more often than 'Dialing', therefore correct.
Maybe not the same on the other side of the pond as per many other words.

Those of you who it worked for: did you clear caches or do anything special after flashing? I'm still getting the same "Bluetooth turning off..." message in the bt settings page, and I'm unable to turn it back on without a reboot.

If you installed this patch delete all your devices and then turn bt on and off and see if it works...if it does cause that finally worked for me then add your devices one by one to see which one is compatible or not

Many thanks! I flashed this to CM 10.1 RC5a - had been having BT issues with it crashing or not being able to start for months.
Before flashing, I cleared Dalvik/Cache, flashed, fix permissions - after reboot, started BT and deleted all devices.
36 hours on it, no problems with car BT audio, no crashes.
Does a2dp work for anyone on cm10.1?

[Q] use Google voice search via headphones

Is it possible to have my gs3 in my pocket and use Google voice search via the headphones?
This would be very useful, for example while walking to school and I can ask my phone what time it is and it can answer me.

The only way you could do that is with headphones with the built in mic.
There's typically a button inline on the cable.

I didn't get 4.2.2 but I did get the "side bar" thing. It seemed kinda cool at 1st, but it's gotten rather annoying. I get the dual Window option but don't see the practicality for my use. I'd love input if anyone has any.

But what it *still* doesn't have (or, at least, I haven't found it yet) is the ability to go into Navigation, hit the "map" button, and watch the arrow follow your route, without needing to punch in a destination (a "follow" mode, for lack of a better term). I actually used that on occasion, and its disappearance in Maps 7 is very disappointing.

Standalone navigation apps usually include a tracking mode where you can monitor a live trace of your gps' (walked, driven or bicycled) path along the map and annotate, save and share that trace.
I'm not sure how much was included in GNav, but it has been reduced to a GMaps subset and the controls need to be relearned. Map tracing via gps seems gone for now.
