So I'm on moar V 5.0; how can I link the ringer volume with notification volume?
Love this rom but hate that only ringer volume goes up when using your volume keys. I never even turn up ringer, I by habit am thinking I'm turning up notifications, which I am sadly not. I have to go and manually do it.
Is there a way to link the 2?

since nobody else responded i'll give it a shot. i think (i've switched from moar so i'm going by memory) if you go system settings>sound>volumes in the middle of that pop up menu there is a checkable box that links them
hope that helps

Is there a way to link my phone ringtone and notification volume together?
On my G2x, under Settings > Sound > Volume, there was a checkbox to make the notification and ringtone volume the same. So when I pressed the volume down button to turn my ringtone volume down, it would also turn my notification volume down. But on the GSII, I can bring my ringtone volume down low, but my notifications will still blare. The only way to adjust the notification volume is by going all the way into the sound settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a newborn at home, and when I'm home, i want my sounds low, but when I leave the house, I want everything back all the way up. I don't want to have to go into the sound settings each time I need to raise/lower my notification volume.
Maybe an app?
Thanks!
Get Quick Settings from the Market. It has that option. I only get that app for this exact reason.

nice! works fantastic!
thanks!!!
How can I make my gnexus go completely silent when I put it on vibrate/silent mode? I don't what apps to make any sound when I turn down the volume all the way using the volume buttons. Right now I have to go to settings>sounds and change it there.
Oh and is there a way to force it to always vibrate even on silent mode?

1. You can turn down just the media volume. That volume can be adjusted with the volume buttons too, you need to let media make a sound and then press the volume button.
You can also search for volume widgets on the market, I bet there are some that will suit your needs.
2. You can set vibrate in sound setting to "always".

1. That's the problem though. I'm sitting in class and open an app and suddently it starts playing a music. Even the sound of taking a screen shot is unaffected when phone is on silent.
2. I can not find this option in Settings>Sound. I have "Vibrate and Ring" which is set to enabled but it does not affect silent mode.
I use an app called RealSilent off the market. Its free and does what you need.
Use Audio Manager, or something similar. There's plenty of apps out there...
I use quick setting app.....has all volume settings on one page to change values of basically everything

You could also use a profiles app and create a profile that silences everything. (And also a profile that brings everything back up to volumes you like when it's not silenced.)
Thanks everyone I'll try the market
I believe the actual problem is that ICS has combined notification volume and ringer volume in to 1 volume. I haven't seen any of those apps mentioned above, but how can they possibly get around this newly imposed restriction in ICS??
I use Llama for setting profiles on my ICS Nexus S and it warns you about this exact thing.
I've used Mute before on the SGS. Worked well there. I haven't used it yet for the Galaxy Nexus so I can't say if it's been updated for ICS.

Lol this isn't just ics
It was in gingerbread too
The notification and ringer volume are the same (and I actually prefer that)
And OP all you need to do is make the ringer silent, then go into a media app, something like music, power amp, even camera, and then turn down the media volume from there, its pretty simple

But not very practical to do this over and over. Its easier to have a toggle.
Phone on silent in class, open Tiny Tower, and BOOM you have tons of sounds lol. So I really need to find one that works. I used "silent toggle widget" on my G2, but it doesn't mute everything on the GNex.

Looks like "mute" works... when you hit the widget to mute everything, and go into "sound" settings, the ringer is silenced and the games/media sound is set to 0. I'll test more after class. Not gonna risk it right now
Also, the widget is kinda ugly but I think I can look past that if it does what I need.

Wrong. I'll let the picture do the talking instead of a petulant "lol".
Does anyone know how to make the ring and notification volume the same without having to adjust both in the settings?
It's really annoying to have my ring volume turned down, only to get a really loud text message notification shortly after.
Download Quick Settings from the market, it has an option to link the Ringer and Notification volumes so they work together. I never understood why they weren't controlled together in the first place.
Worked great thanks.

Cool. Thanks!
Thanks for the help. This must be a samsung thing because all the HTC phones I owned had an option to link notification and ring volume.
I'm starting to get annoyed of the fact that i have to got to the setting to change the NOTIFICATIONS volume, where as i can adjust the RINGTONE volume just by using the Volume rocker.
Is there a way to do this without installing any app, i can live with flashing MODS, TWEAKS, or ADD-ONS...
When you turn up/down the volume in homescreen or just outside the apps dont you get expendable bars for other volumes?

I was looking around for a way to do this last night and came across "Settings Extended" in Google Play. You can link Ringer and Notifications through the app, which changes the way the rocker works since when you adjust the Ringer Volume using the rocker it now adjusts notifications too.
I also added a Wifi Hotspot toggle and Flashlight toggle to my Notifications bar for easy access to those options through the same app. Pretty pleased with it.

I was hoping for a TWEAK/MOD rather than a new app... anybody?
There are two issues that I find annoying with the volume settings. I believe these issues are because of this T-Mobile ROM and not stock Android 4.2.2, but I could be wrong. While this issue might be a thread for troubleshooting, I believe this is not something we users can fix, but a ROM issue that T-Mobile should probably fix sometime soon.
The issues are the notification volume not properly being linked with the ringer volume and the second is the warning we get about turning up the volume when headphones are plugged in; that is just plain annoying, and I wish our ROM would allow us to disable this warning message. If anyone has found an easy way to do this, please let us know.
The notification volume does not seem to get set up or down when using the volume button on the side of the phone. On my older HTC phone with Android 2.3.4, turning the volume up or down with the side volume button turns the phone's ringer up/down but not the notifications (not while in a call but while walking into a meeting, for instance, and trying to make the phone ringer and notifications quiet). Further more, when I go into settings to access volumes (music, ringtones, notification, system) or I press the volume button and quickly access volume settings from the volume pop-up (ringtone, media, notification, system) there is no option/functionality to have ringtone and notification volumes linked. Further still, I have a widgetsoid volume widget to access volume controls that does allow me to set "use ringer volume for notifications", and I see the volume slider for notifications greyed out and moving with the ringtone volume setting, BUT the notification volume doesn't actually adjust with the ringtone volume when using the volume button.
Okay, I know that is a long winded (its just thorough) way of explaining the volume issues I've observed, in total.
I think either this T-Mobile ROM has broken the previous and useful feature of having these two volumes linked, or it is a problem with Android 4.2.2.
Anyone have anything to add? Maybe a fix I am overlooking? Anyone know how to also disable the annoying warning about having my headphones turned up too loud?
Thanks!
Volume warning is fixable through root and nottach framework or a custom ROM. My ROM has the ability to sync any volume with the ringer volume.

I agree. I have had some issues with volume on my phone. Interestingly, when I was running the CyanogenMod nightly, I noticed all my notifications/ringers were MUCH louder (it actually startled me the first time my phone rang), and of course I had the option to lock the two volumes together.

I think I can pull the volume synchronization from my ROM and put it into an app.
