So it seems standard operation is that ringer and notification sounds play though the phone's speaker and through a connected bluetooth device. For example, a headset or my car's bluetooth audio. When the phone rings, the ringtone comes through the phone's own speaker, and comes through the car's speakers. But, as with any bluetooth device, there is a 1/2 second or so delay. So what i end up with is this bouncing echoy ringing that starts on the phone and ends on the bluetooth.
Is there a way to tell the phone to only play ringtones through bluetooth when connected? I do NOT want ringtones played out of the phone speaker when I have bluetooth connected.
I've noticed this as well. It would be nice to be able to do that but I haven't been able to find a setting for it.
Try putting ur phone on vibrate or silent.

Then there will be no notification/ringer sound at all through anything.
Well it works on mine that's why I suggested it. It's worth a test if it's that annoying.

Bluetooth audio widget in Google Play used to be good for this, but it seems developer hasn't updated his app in awhile.

Yes, but I confirm that in this case, no sound is played any more, even through BT headphone (on my SGS2 at least).
No it's not a solution.
If anybody has an idea...

That doesn't work on my Samsung Galaxy S4 with my LG headset, unfortunately. If I have bluetooth connected and select a ringtone from the list it plays over both. If I turn the ringer and notification volumes to silent, nothing comes through the bluetooth either. Did you make any other adjustments other than just turn your ringer to silent?

I downloaded the app called "Bluetooth Auto Connect" by UniqTec, and while it seems to be a cool program that does what it says it can do, I don't see how it solves the problem of sound coming through both the phone and bluetooth devices. Can you tell us what you did to make this work?
I have a Samsung Galaxy 6 s phone and a Motorola HK255 Bluetooth. Putting phone on, "mute" silences the phone ringer, but I can still hear the ring when my Bluetooth is on! :-} Problem solved for me! I hope this works for you too.

Hey Cosmic Phoenix,
I can see there are at least 20 apps with the *exact* name in the Play Store... Could you tell me which developer specifically the 'Bluetooth Auto Connect' is made by please?

My wife's Nexus started to act up here this morning... When she tries to make calls, the following condition exists:
1. No sound from earpiece.
2. Remote callee hears no sound from the microphone.
However, when she activates speakerphone, she can hear the remote party and the internal microphone turns back on.
When she uses a wired headset, she can hear the remote party and the headset's microphone picks up audio and properly disables the internal microphone.
I've wiped Dalvik/cache. No dice. Any ideas?
Update: Also, the Music player -- when played without any headphones attached -- has no sound, not even via the speaker.
Update: Re-flashing the ROM did not help. WTF is wrong with this phone?
Update: Tried an entirely different ROM this time.. same issue.
ALSO... using the Music player (or Winamp) will NOT playback any media through the speaker.
Update: Problem disappeared literally overnight!
But now it's happening with the haptic feedback... The vibration works when the phone is powered on, and when the power button is pressed, but not for anything else. The correct checkboxes are selected in Settings/Sound.
What the eff is going on with this phone?
you can try this

Yeah the app "works" but having to manually turn the screen off when making a call sucks.. I've had this issue with 4 different Nexus phones.. Asurion is getting tired of me..I know..I refuse to take an LG Spectrum or Lucid 2 in exchange for my galaxy nexus
All,
On my note 1 I always used my apple headphones. I am able to play pause song/ next track and answer calls but not hang up calls or alter volume.
Now on my note 2, I can do all the above but when I make a call, it doesnt work and the call ends however I can recieve a call with the headphones. This is such a weird situation.. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
You can only use Android specific headphones for volume controls and playing none of the headset with three buttons will work except u can recieve calls.Android headphones are klipsch s4a and s4a2

Ok I have found the issue. When the music app is open, and I go to make a call the phone just loses recognition that my headphones are in however if i exit the music app and make a call then it recognises it. Its like the phone can only use them as one but not both, although if i am listening to music and recieve a call i can succesfully pick up a call.
weird?
In addition, when I initiate a call and end it, my headphones need to be plugged in and out again to get them to recognise them again.

Sounds like you have a problem with the headset button priority. It looks like your music player is taking priority over the phone app, which is causing the bad behavior. Try Headset Interceptor on the play store (free app) to make sure the button press is directed to the proper app.
So should I be hearing music through my handsfree?
I used my phone for GPS for the first time and I love hearing Nav notifications through my handsfree set. What I couldn't figure out is how to keep using my handsfree set without music playing through it. Nothing would play through the AUX port of my car stereo unless I turned off my handsfree.
I want to be able to hear music through the car stereo and notifications / calls through the headset - is that possible?

I don't think it's possible. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think your phone manages both at the same time. You could have them go through the same one tough. That's what I personally do, both on bluetooth audio system (car).
How did you manage to get it to play on both? For me it seems like it has to be one or the other

Both on bluetooth? I simply have both running at the same time.
My issue was that it seemed like I can only do one or the other. I saw in the settings for my voyager legend that you can make calls through headset but have music still play through car stereo
That works

Not sure I completely understood what you're trying to do, so this may not be what you're wanting.
But if you go to your Bluetooth pairings on the phone and then go to the settings for your Car Stereo Bluetooth pairing, there is an option for either Call Audio or Music Audio. You can de-select the Music Audio so that only Call Audio plays through Bluetooth to the Car Stereo.
All I want is to be able to still hear navigation notifications in my headset while still be able to hear music through car stereo. That doesn't seem possible. I either hear it....
1) All in my headset (phone calls, music and notifications) or car stereo
2) Phone calls in headset (and navigation notifications if I'm on the phone) with music and notifications in car stereo
But I want it to be phone calls plus all notifications in headset regardless if I'm using the phone and music in car stereo

I went ahead and did a little search. Android seems to do it on it's on so I'm not sure why you can't connect to both and hear what you want in both.
I personally don't connect to 2 devices at the same time but I do get/hear everything in my car audio system (navigation, music, calls, notifications) and that can all be at the same time. The music sound will just lower when navigation girl speaks and when a notification comes in.
Now I dunno if you searched for this but I did find a app that might help (can't try it myself as I only connect to one): Smart Bluetooth Widget Free. There's also a paid version.
And like the other guy mentioned, you can select in the bluetooth options what you want to be streamed through it.

All is in the tittle, only with headset plugged in. It happen when it's in my pocket or in my hand.
I've try an other headset still turning down by itself. . .
Please help.
Either you're volume button is broken and is randomly pressing "volume down" or you're pressing the button yourself without realizing it... (can happen in your pocket but not likely in your hand^^)
So unfortunatly i'd go for the broken button :/
I hope for you i'm wrong tough...
Thanks
But it only happening when the headset are plugged in so I not sure for the broken button
Well if you're not in silent or vibrate mode when the headset aren't plugged in, i'm probably wrong so it's good for you i guess
I can't help you then, sorry :/

i have the same problem. i guess it only happens while receiving a message, so there are some problems with the music app (i use Google music). the music also turns off for 1-2 sec while receiving or writing a message listening to music via Bluetooth. its definitely no hardware issue.

Possible solution
This may differ from rom to rom, but try unchecking "Safe headset volume" under settings -> Sound -> Advanced.
I'm using the Gummy rom, so your settings might not look the same. Try searching for "Safe headset volume" as this automaticly turns down the volume when a headset / minijack is plugged into the phone Hope this helps!
Using the Bluetooth headset seems to help

[SOLVED] it had nothing to do with the phone (probably), the headphones had controls on them, and they may have been sending false signals to the phone.
My Oppo F5 having the same issue. Its volume automattically goes down , when a notification comes while playing any youtube video or any background music.
Someone please help.
Why is there no way to change the audio path? When I'm navigating, I like to hear the voice from my phone. As long as my moto 360 is connected to my phone, the audio is routed to the watch which has no speaker so I hear nothing. This is kinda ridiculous to me that I can't change this like on other Bluetooth devices. I have to disconnect my watch to navigate bc of it.
Am I missing something or can this be fixed in a future update?
EDIT: Fixed! This issue has been fixed by someone. Maybe it was an update to Google maps? I used navigation yesterday and audio came through my phone as all as notifications on my watch. Very cool!
You don't get a voice but should feel a vibration when turn approaches.

Yeah I do, I just prefer to hear the voice and how many lanes turn and all that additional information the voice gives. I can look at the phone and it will tell me but I just prefer the voice. I also found out it will still work if I connect to my car stereo and the audio will come out of the stereo while it does the directions on the watch, so that's my best work around at the moment
Had the same issue yesterday. It was a major disappointment to say the least. Totally disconnected it from the phone which makes the watch almost useless to me

Ya, I use navigation all the time when I'm out of my normal areas of driving. Always comes through my car stereo via bluetooth.
To get the voice to come through on the phone make sure Car Mode is disabled. If it is enabled it will try and send audio through whatever bluetooth connection it has. ...I think
I don't have my watch yet, but try going to the bluetooth settings on the phone and select the watch. If you have a "Media audio" profile with a check mark, try unchecking that. That should reroute that audio to the phone.
Will know for sure Tuesday when I get my 360!

Of course. With music streaming, the music would get quiet and the nav would be loud. I've used nav on my phone for ages.
