Same here, except the non-removable battery is a hard pill to swallow. I like HTC phones.

What if its just a refresh of the 4 with lte and a slightly bigger battery? If that's the case I wouldn't bother personally. But if its a brand spanking new n5 with klp that's what I would buy next.

Are you crazy? The s4 has lower quality audio when making phone calls.
Still liking my Note 2. No need to get an S4. Sooner or later the update will drop and I can wait. My next phone will more than likely be the Note 3 but I'll see what comes out by then.

i would move onto a S4 if I could get a great deal and sell my Note 2 for a good price. The slightly smaller size and higher res display appeals to me. I never use the stylus on my Note2 anyway. When the Note3 comes out in 4-5 months, I think S4 owners are going to feel jipped. The Note3 will probably have the octo-core processor, which means it'll have more features. My wife's S3 didn't get multi-window until May 2013 (Note2 got it December 2012). The US S3 (T-Mobile) still doesn't have pop-up browser. Of course you can get all that stuff if you flash custom ROMs, but not everyone is into that.

I'm curious how the octacore will equal more features? Granted, the note 3 probably will have more features than the s4 since it will launch after it, but I doubt that will have anything to do with the processor. Most benchmarks have shown the snapdragon quad core to be equal to or better than the octa in performance and battery life.

You're right but who knows what's around the corner. Imagine the features Google is cooking up for Key Lime Pie that might take advantage of more cores. I'm sure Samsung must have ideas in development. Friends with software engineering and computer science backgrounds tell me (in reference to general computing) hardware is the limiting factor rather than software.
I'm sure everyone has seen this video on the abilities of the Note 2. I expect an octo-core Note 3 to do much more.

t989 is still plenty fast, note 2 is faster, but thats a given
my issue with t989 is that the battery is really crap...after a full year of use the battery wont even last 3 hours screen on, so i figured id let my mom use it for voice only (which still goes on for days)

Yea I was just updating the GSIIIs in my store to 4.1.1. Much smoother than ICS. Although they still stutter and spurt a bit. Although I think that might be due to the crappy demo software T-Mobile loads floor models with lol. You can definitely tell with the notification toggles. They're were choppy on ICS, much smoother on JB.
And yes I agree with your s4 move. I believe Sammy may be putting their dual core a15 exynos/Mali t604 in it. I'm gonna pass on all phones this gen and wait for that. Its monster!! Have you seen the Nexus 10 in action?

Oops! Lol. I kinda thought that after I posted it....but too lazy to worry about it!
I have been eyeballing the Note 2, whats this about an S4 though? I would love the power of the Note 2, in a smaller package. The SGS2 is the perfect size. The Note even in my hands is huge.
The S3 wasn't enough of an improvement over the S2 to be worth it in my eyes. If the S4 shares some of the specs from the Note 2, like perhaps a Quad core CPU, 2 Gb of RAM, and an HD screen. I'm in.
Thought about switching but the phone just seems to big for my day to day use.
I was thinking about the s3, note 2 or waiting for the s4.
So how does compare in holding the s2 in hand vs the note 2

xiaomi m2 or nexus 4 would be your best bet(id go with the n4 tho)

mali t658

From what I've gathered the Galaxy SIV will sport a 5 inch 1080p SAMOLED screen, a quad core A15 architecture Exynos 5 chip possibly coupled with the Mali t658 GPU. Samsung is really trying to knock it out of the park with the GSIV. Can't wait for spring!

No. If the leak holds true then the GS4 has got to be the laziest design upgrade, ever.

Still haven't seen a phone announcement that makes me feel compelled to part with money for a new phone. 8 cores are cool but there are still nothing software wise that makes all those cores worth it.

It will all depend on the specs. If it gets wireless charging, way better processor, 2gb ram, 32gb internal memory, same or better battery that's removable and better features plus the ones I currently have then yes I may sell my note 2 for the gs4. But it really has to impress for me to go through the trouble of selling my note 2 and buying the s4 at full retail.

It remains to be seen if the footprint of the phone gets bigger with that extra .4 inches of screen; it may be the same size! That'd be cool. But regardless, the S4 looks boring and it'll be more than 2 years until 4 cores of processing will not get you where you need to be. 8 core phones are something that I completely do not care about, I'd rather they put that effort into better design materials.

Not really. Although it may look the same it has about the same or best features as the one. This phone is great and for those that have a note 2 it may not be that much of an update but for s3 owners it's a decent upgrade. But with lots of the software updates from s4 coming to s3 this phone is more of a phone for those trying Sammy for the first time. In the end this phone is a sure competition to the htc one.

I personally don't see the upgrade for S3 owners but definitely see it for S2 owners. I was hoping for more wow factor since the S series and Note series are typically pretty close to each other save a few small differences.
If this is what Samsung will put out in 2013, I'm waiting until the Note 4.

This. S3 users will be pretty silly to get this upgrade unless money is no object for them. I do like a few this though. The white version for example is not just white it looks like it has a textured face. And the Window for the flip cover. The biggest update would be the AC wifi. I wish the Note 2 had that.
Also anyone catch that it has an IR LED? That's sweet if it does.

Im curious to see if the s4 can be rooted easily because of the new Samsung knox software. It seems like its gonna be hard to flash roms and such cause the features of knox is to shut the phone down if unauthorized software is found. Also the kernel has secure boot on it. Any thoughts on this guys?

I'm really disappointed that they didn't focus on improving design and build quality. I love my Note 2 but will definitely hold out if the Note 3 is just a spec'd up update. It's awesome that the battery is removable and a SD card can be used, but I really believe they could used more premium parts in place of the chrome strip and plastic cover. If struggling HTC is capable of creating a gorgeously designed phone, then Samsung -with all it's resources and money - can definitely design a well-crafted, premium device.
But I am looking forward to the Note 3 and the new features the device will include. I just hope the device doesn't get any bigger (if it does, i hope it's not significantly noticeable) and includes more premium parts. Can you imagine the Note with an aluminum, removable battery cover and a premium chrome belt?
The plastic adds less weight and makes the screen less prone to breaking. I have dropped my phone numerous of times and never had to replace my screen. More weigh equals more weight which equals more mass and force when you drop your phone.
I believe Samsung's goal is to make their phone light and durable. If I had a choice of either protecting my screen or my phone cover I rather had a phone with some nicks than a cracked screen.

13 MP back facing camera, internal storage space of up to 64GB, 1.9 GHz Snapdragon cpu. It's a little better than ours LOL
The Smart Scroll feature is pretty cool. I also like that it can tell if you are watching a video and if you look away from the screen it will auto pause. It comes with 4.2.2 so hopefully it can be easily ported to our Note II

Exynos chip is more optimized . Having it in the s2 you should know. Use the US variant of the s3 vs the international, it is just smoother with the exynos. So that's why its a deal breaker. Not going to settle for less. I really don't care for LTE.

I agree with the poster above. You say you love Galaxy Note 2, but still want to downgrade to Galaxy S3 with a little extra money. Upgrading is one thing, but downgrading shows how you feel about the device that you are downgrading from. That feeling is definitely not a love feeling.
Question that comes into my mind is: Why do you want to get rid of your Galaxy Note 2 just to get the Galaxy S3?

I think you have gotten a lot of good feedback but sometimes you just need to be a decision maker right?

Download a "spin the bottle" app. That should make the decision easier.

Let me get this right. You are using Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999) to post here about selling/trading your Galaxy Note 2 for another Galaxy S3 with more money, because you can't let go of your iPhone 5 and you now have two or more devices in use. Sorry long winded there.
Boy, the plot thickens.
Do you know that the Galaxy S3 is smaller, less powerful and less battery life device over Galaxy Note 2 being larger and more powerful device with longer battery life? This is why this doesn't make sense to us.
If you can't let go of your iPhone 5 then that should be your device. No need to sell or trade to get Galaxy S3 when you already own one. If you want to get rid of your Galaxy devices then why not give them to someone who really needs a smartphone and would make use of Android. Just make sure that you fully paid for the Galaxy devices before selling/trading/giving away.
Why are you using smartphone devices? What use are you getting from them? What would you like to do with them? Why would you go smaller, less powerful, and less battery life device over larger, more powerful device with longer battery life? Why not look at the new devices that are coming out? Are you just going for the most popular device of the moment? I am just trying to understand your thought process.
Keep both and delete your xda account.

"They also decided on sooner than expected retirement of Samsung Galaxy S3. Which may be a smart move, since for the average person, Galaxy S3 design and performance is not so much different from S4, and the former flagship may be cannibalizing some serious SGS4 sales."
This further supports the theory that Samsung's really going all in in marketing the S4...even by creating another variant!

What goes up must come down. Will be upgrading soon but I have to admit this phone runs great. To be duel core it seems more than adequate.

I will not be upgrading. Eventually all the S4 tweaks and mods will be on the S3 maybe. This phone runs way to good to upgrade just for some faster speed. Yes the S4 had better hardware and everything but I don't see it worth the upgrade.

I think the only reason I would, would be for a S4 Zoom or Active.. But I hear the zoom has lesser specs due to the camera hardware. Still have 1.5 years on this contract though.

The active looks promising. Zoom not so good for me because I don't really use my camera. But I know it's there.

I wish they would mesh the two..
I'm no photographer but I would love to have the zoom. Love to take photos and whatnot.

I hear that! As long as Devs keep building for s3, I'm not upgrading. I also read that Samsung may have over-priced the s4, which could hurt them if more people are buying their phones outright to avoid contracts...

So what are the chances that Sprint will get the greater s4 with the Snapdragon 800 anytime soon

Well, it didn't take them very long to get the better processor for the S3.... oh wait....
Good, maybe the prices will tank and I can pick up a used S4. Probably have to wait... I'm in no hurry though.
I like the Active, don't see the point in the Zoom. Might as well just buy a camera.
