Returning to stock...bootloader unlocked - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Xperia Play on Stock GB using DoomKernel.
The bootloader is unlocked.
It has begun freezing and apps not opening properly.
So I want to reinstall the stock ROM.
What is the best, easiest and safest way to do this considering I have the bootloader unlocked?
Thanks.

It's flashing the ftf via flashtool

[Q] Root without OTA

I'm currently on 2.3.3, and don't want to unlock the bootloader due to warranty, so I wanted to try the Gingerbreak option, but my carrier doesn't seem to do OTA updates (currently no 2.3.4, no 2.3.3 when I got the phone), so I'd be stuck on an old firmware. If I do unlock the bootloader, how do I get root while keeping the stock ROM? I don't want to lose the native emulator.

You dont loose the stock rom unlocking the bootloader. Just all your data. Furthermore the native emulator has nothing to do with the rom you use, each classic PS game comes with it's own emulator built into the .apk file.

So I could use the FreeXperia ROM and PSXperia will still work?
Also, how do I backup my current stock ROM? Root, and backup with that recovery mode app off the market?

Yes as far as i know, as long as you install some prerequisite apps like preinstalledservices.apk. You can play the classic PS games on cyanogenmod You cannot use nandroid backup (from recovery) without unlocking your bootloader. There are some backup apps on the market but they all require root too. That recovery mode app you talk about, you mean rom manager? well atm rom manager is not compatinle with any of the 2011 xperia devices
Oh, so we have to install and backup ROMs through ADB? Does the ClockworkMod recovery work?

Ok, so I was on 2.3.3, unlocked bootloader, everything was fine, then I flashed the play_modded.img using Fastboot as said in the "Root your Play" thread, it worked, but I booted the phone up to find that it's 2.3.2, old as hell, the UK version, won't recognise my New Zealand SIM, and everything is force closing. I reset to factory settings, still no SIM but most force closing was fixed. I noticed the MTP thing force closes though.
I'm now downloading the 2.3.3 UK ROM, but I want my original Vodafone 2.3.3 NZ/AUS ROM, then install Doomlords kernel for autoroot. SE PC Companion isn't showing an update option to restore to said ROM. ):
Edit: Installed the 2.3.3 UK ROM and Doomkernel and everything works fine! Thanks, AndroHero.

[Q] downgrade From 2.3.4 to 2.3.2

Is there any way downgrading from 2.3.4 to 2.3.2?
I have a locked sim card. So i cant unlock the bootloader. And no good enough toturial on Remote Unlock.
Can i use flash tool to downgrade?
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
Don't think it will work.. Surely the kernel will not be compatible with 2.3.2 because it will still have the 2.3.4 one.. You can only flash kernel with unlocked bootloader.

Ya you can use flashtool to downgrade no problem

Flashtool replaces the kernel too.
flashtool 2.9.1 will flash and downgrade without bootloader, think of it as the PCCompanion
How do i remove root? Want the 4.0 update. But do we really get. Maybe we get it. But what if Sony Ericsson means that. We will make ics for Xperia PLAY?
I want original ICS. From SE
Btw could some one upload 2.3.2 link. And howto video? Locked sim card. It failed

I Cant understand what you just said... a video tutorial is not necessary since thousands of user did it without it.

Could someone post a 2.3.2 Eroupean ftf file?
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
calm down dude.
I dont get why you want to downgrade anyways? Why dont you just stick to 2.3.4?
Yay
it worked. but its an UK ftf. does this go away when i gingerbreak. then ota root keeper? does it update to my original language. cant find Norwegian in Languages on my Xperia PLAY 2.3.2
Go to wotanserver.com and find your version then use gingerbreak if it's 2.3.2 or zergrush exploit if it's 2.3.3 or higher. They should have your region.

can downgrade sure CONFIRM!
May I know which process you use to downgrade to 2.3.2.
Wontanserver for sure. Good program, downloads and installs any firmware you want.

[Q] Rooting + Installing Xrecovery

I already rooted my Xperia Arc. My problem now is how to install xrecovery without unlocking my bootloader.
Is there a way?

Thanks. So i'll stick with the default rom in the meantime.

Flashtool to be used for Latest ICS beta?

What i mean is if there is a .tft or .ftf for the new beta of ICS cause i dont want to unlock my bootloader. The very reason i have a custom rom is i created multiple method just to have one. For example my Xperia Play as of this moment is running the T.E.A.M Rom w/ default ericson kernel. How did i do that? I used a kernel w/ Superuser and Clockwork then flashed again replacing just the kernel and i was able to use a Rom. Anyway i relly on flashtool to get more w/o unlocking my bootloader, but is there a flashtool process to get the ICS beta working?

u must have unlocked bootloader to use that ics beta..
I guess this means that the flashtool serves no purpose for the xplay beta, better wait for the official w/c doesnt require unlock bootloader.
Btw the other free method w/c uses a pin, i was able to successfully do that. But the dos for fastboot wont continue, that made methink that unlock bootload for me is unsuccess though the tool said mine is unlocked.

why not u unlock bootloader?? u can relock back using flashtool..
Sorry im not really that techy but ill read that relock, cause what i know is that relocking bootloader has its rules and limit, would it be possible to relock after flashing to ICS Beta. ICS w/ safe locked bootloader.

relock bootloder is so easy.. what u need is .ftf file and flash it using flashtool
you cant relock it when using custom rom.. it may brick your device
my suggestion is unlock your bootloader to flash ICS beta and when ICS officially release by sony.. u can relock it back but u must flash the stock rom first to receive that update
It thats really,if my play relock back,im can get the realease update, from sony With the pc companion? Because I just unlock my BL,

[Q]Flashing with flashtool brings back phone to stock?

1. I wanted to know that is it possible to downgrade using flashtool e.g if i flash a custom rom which is based on firmware .55 but then i flash with flash tool, version .50, would it work?
2. By flashing through flash tool, can i get rid of CWM?
1) yes
2) yes
Assuming you have an unlocked bootloader and you mean flashing ftf files

No. I'm not planning on unlocking bootloader but yes i was referring to ftf files. DOes it change the scenario?
Anyone?
The custom rom part put me off, sorry about that.
You can use flashtool to flash a stock ftf firmware over any custom rom. (also with a locked bootloader.
You could downgrade even to a gingerbread rom if you want

Ok and by flashing stock ftf, i would get rid of even clockwork right? in case of sending it to repair centre.
Thing is, i have played around with custom roms on different phones for ages but the whole part of unlocking bootloader etc is all new to me so before i begin flashing roms.
Yes it would remove cwm since it's embedded in the kernels and since stock firmware kernels don't have cwm it will be removed by flashtool when flashing a stock firmware rom
