Thanks for this. But for dropbox, its 50gb of space not 10.
Since when is Watch ON considered bloat? From what I've seen I think the general consensus seems to be that it's pretty darn useful...

not all of it is correct and some of it is not bloat.
Also some apps have dependencies.
Isn't ChatOn the only video calling service right now that can make use of the Galaxy s4's dual-shot feature?
one persons bloat is anothers beauty???

Makes it sound like it's a list of files which can be considered bloat by some and can be removed without any deleterious effects provided the .apk's removed don't negatively impact the desired function of a specific feature or app a user may not consider as bloatware.

Be careful uninstalling ChatON. ChatON V 1.0.1.0 is required for S Voice and Optical Reader to work properly. Uninstalling ChatON V cause Optical Reader to warn "Unforunately, Samsung Text-to-speech engine has stopped" and not function properly or not at all. It also causes the S Voice not reply back. I uninstalled the other chaton without issues.

This isnt true. My ROM has Chat on removed and s voice and optical reader work fine. I think you are thinking of SamsungTTS (TTS = Text to speech)
I Flashed the stock MDL ROM many times to figure out why Optical Reader keeps breaking after debloating. I'm running full stock MDL ROM as it is straight from the store, not custom ROM. The only thing I did was install TRWP custom recovery via ODIN and rooted my phone then installed Titanium root backup. Afterwards, I spent almost an hour checking all the apps and functions on the S4 from camera to all the S apps. Everything worked perfectly so I know custom recovery, rooting and installing titanium backup didn't break anything. The first thing and the only thing I did was uninstall ChatON V and only that 1 app. It broke S Voice, Optical Reader and S Translate. If you don't believe me, back up your current ROM and reflash stock MDL ROM and follow my instructions above.
Even these links tell you not to unstall ChatON

If you're running custom ROM then the ROM cooker could easily address this issue while cooking.
The stock ROM has ChatON V and ChatON. ChatON V is an add on for ChatON. By itself, It doesn't work without ChatON. This means it won't hog resources or use up RAM since it never starts up to begin with. Other Samsung Apps depend on ChatON V to work but not ChatON. You can uninstall ChatON and the ChatON app will disappear from the app drawer. I've flashed the MDL ROM at least 5 times to narrow down to ChatON V.

I'm wondering the same for the Desire.
My Brother took a shine to the MiniDiary App I have running.
That coupled with the Samsung Widget Days works rather well together.
Thank you for posting this. Downloaded and saved for the future T-Mobile Vibrant to be used as "reference" so to speak.
One thing that I am wondering though. I've read that T-Mobile USA of course is not going to include mobile hot spot functionality in their version of Galaxy - it's just the way they are I guess. I perused the content of the app.rar and found a file there called MobileAP.apk, hmm...., wonder if that is the wi-fi hot spot app and if so I also wonder if it will possible to install it on Vibrant. Hard to imagine that it would be that simple but worth the try. Any thoughts?
thanks, tried to put these on htv evo. and a no go
only one i could get working was the launcher. but no widgets or anything
^Same..anyone care to lead us in the right direction?

Sorry, I did not explain that carefully enough.

Tried installing InfoAlarm.apk (Daily Briefing) onto Motorola Droid rooted cyano 5.0.8 with no luck. Any ideas?
Is this possible for anyone to post the gallery wallpapers (Not Live) from Samsung Galaxy S??
I just want to add as well that i wasnt able to install Aldiko from Samsung Galaxy S. The one downloaded from the Market does not have multi-touch pinch zoom.
When i tried installing using Astro, it only said "Application Not installed". However when i tried installing using AndroidCommander from my PC, it reported an error about missing shared file/resources.
Could it be that we may need to install or copy certain core shared files before we can actually install one of these apks?

Unfortunately your link only takes you to the main page..... Are you referring to the 'Google Mail' icon you are missing?
If so all you need to do is go to where your applications are stored (bottom right icon on any of the 7 home screens) and I think it's on page 2 of the list of applications where you will see the Google Mail icon.
Long Press & Hold the icon and it will then copy the Google Mail icon to the last place you were at on the home screen.
Oh right ...
you have to click on How to
And no, it is not the google mail but really "samsung mail"
You have then 3 different mail app and not 2 as I said before
If you find applications which are safe to remove from the ROM, please post them here, along with what functionality is lost, including which "app" as it shows in the drawer, gets removed.
I will try to compile a big list in uniform format later on. Please only post if you have actually tested it.
Spreadsheet Of Applications Removable
I have removed all the hub apps social hub, music hub, game hub, etc using root explorer method I can confirm that it is safe to remove these with no problems system/apps is where they are.
would love a full list of this, i think this is going to be a commonly asked question. i'm still not 100% what i should be getting rid off
I've frozen or removed all of the above and AP Mobile, Yahoo finance, AccuWeather, Buddies now and Video maker with no issues using AntTek App Manager.

what sort of functionality loss this you notice? Can you please tell us, i'm planing to get rid of most of stock apps when i get the phone but like to know what will be affected.
So.
Being a new android user, I messed around with my phone without a full understanding of what would happen if i uninstalled a core application. I assumed incorrectly that Titanium Backup would allow me to reinstall applications, and then uninstalled the stock clock application thinking that it was one of the many clock widgets.
Could someone upload their stock Clock application apk here, or advise me as to how I can restore the stock clock without having to flash the original ROM?
Do you mean this apk?
i'm no expert either but if its the one you deleted then pushing it back via adb should do the trick.

Anyway to remove the Agenda widget? Can't find that anywhere in Titanium...
I think its part of one of the calendar listings. One is the set of widgets and one is the calendar app. Whatever one doesn't have "open" available when you click on it is the set of Widgets.

Yeah. I'm not Orange either. Unlocked handset.

I like to run stock rooted, so here is a list of the apps that I have stripped from my stock rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 (Sprint version); my goal is always to run only the services that I use, and get rid of the rest. I don't use social networking apps integration (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), VPN/Enterprise aspects, motion features, voice features, integrated weather clients or news clients, Bluetooth sharing or NFC stuff (bumping), Kies, Google Wallet, most widgets, etc.
What I DO use on my S3 with this stripped-down stock arrangement:
Bluetooth streaming audio (A2DP) and hands free phone (HFP) to the stereo in my car, sharing of pics/messaging through email, text & MMS, all photo & video functions (including editing), my gmail account using the stock email client (I'm not a fan of the stock Gmail app.) and I use the stock Exchange email as well for my work email account. I use WiFi on my home network, at work, and on the go when available. I use the stock clock for alarms, etc. I remove the stock calculator and replace it with RealCalc. I remove the stock Samsung & Swype keyboards after installing and switching to Smart Keyboard Pro. I use WiFi tethering to tether my laptop when I'm away. I remove the stock browser & install a 3rd party browser. I use a paid version of Documents to Go to replace Polaris Viewer for PDFs, Excel, Word, etc. Other than this, there's not much else I need!
Keep in mind that I remove ALL of these apps AT THE SAME TIME using Titanium Backup; I go down the list, wipe data on each, then delete the APK & Odex of each...some of them are dependent on each other, so if you remove only a portion of them, your results may vary...
Anyways, here are the apps that I have safely stripped without incident using Titanium Backup: (Note: Be sure to clear data of app prior to removal, and ALWAYS make a recovery backup of your ROM prior to stripping apps, and I would also suggest making a copy of the System/App folder and placing in on your SD card in case you want to add any apps back to the phone individually after stripping...and use Titanium Backup to make a batch backup of all system app data as well. If you need help with adding system apps back, just give me a shout!)

That, my friend, is a lot of bloatware.
Bloatware Indeed...
Yes my friend, too much bloatware, for sure! Best to be rid of it. Battery life is outstanding on this phone after the strip too...(and maybe prior to it as well, I never checked because I just rooted and stripped the rom straight away.)
Cheers!

Not everyone is going to want to remove all that, but it's nice to see what you can get away with and still retain functionality.
Nice list

Great info.
I was doing the same thing. None at a time in fear of breaking something.
Noon question :
Is freezing the same thing without removing? (but with the option to unfreeze)

Technically no because the files still exist in the system they're just locked away
I guess I should have asked that different. If youfreeze a apk, technically if the system runs while it is frozen you wouldn't need it? I froze some stuff and had things force close. Unfroze and it worked again. I guess I was wrong.... Or lucky... ..?
Either way, your list covers mostly what Ive already seleted to delete by freeze check... Lol

Keep in mind also that sometimes you have to remove or freeze more than one component of a system app in order to prevent force closes; for example, some system apps have multiple apk's that are dependant on each other; one apk might be the main program while a separate apk might be a watchdog process for that same program....so when one is frozen or removed, the orphaned process apk (or yet another system process) may try to look for or use the missing one, triggering a F/C.
Question...since of the .apk removable files listed above also have a .odex for, are these odex files safe to remove?
Samsung Galaxy S3 - StrongSteve Odexed Blue Rom using xda app-developers
Yes, you should remove both...Easiest way would be to use titanium backup, click on each app, clear data, then delete. That will remove the apk and it's .odex as well.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Which ones would be to remove that are "known "to cause battery drain because start up in the background for no reason. I'm not wanting to remove everything, just what's necessary for battery. Thanks for the help if possible.
Can you count and post how many apk's you have in your /system/app folder,i have 74 apk files and everything works.
There is way more things that you can delete,i went from about 140 to 74 apk's,my battery life imroved too,i get 6hrs of screen time.
Thank you for posting this, my wife just got an SIII and I root it for her. Now I can strip it down to what she needs.
something clever goes here...
Renaming /system/bin/gsiff_daemon helped me a lot. I believe this file has something to do with facebook. It is known to cause high battery drain.
**I heard a report that this list may cause a conflict with the 13B update, if anyone finds out what is causing issues with 13B let me know and I'll update the OP and list**
I thought I'd create a thread with a list of LG, Verizon, and misc apps and services that can be safely frozen without any side effects. As more people post with their own apps that were safe to freeze, I will update the OP.
A majority of these can be frozen without root by going to Settings > Application Manager > All > Select the app and click "Disable". However many have disable grayed out and require root and an app such as Titanium Backup to freeze.
Note: Please don't blindly freeze all of these applications, as some you may wish to use, while others have no use for them. This is purely a list of applications and services that can be frozen without FC and other system errors.

Keep in mind this is based on a collaboration of users, some may want to use these services while others don't need them, so please be caution when freezing applications and services. I would highly recommend freezing first and do not uninstall unless you are positive it is not needed. I already uninstalled many pre-loaded games and apps that I can't remember were included, once a few people post hopefully those titles will come back and I will add them to this list.

After I removed these, my phone failed to boot, so luckily I kept the rooted 11a image on my phone and flashed it in Download mode. I tried to boot up, but was welcomed to a black screen. Couldn't do anything about it, so I did factory reset. It booted, but I lost everything on my phone. I've been really hesitant about removing any LG* apps. I probably won't til we get recovery and I can make a backup to flash in twrp. That download mode prompt is so sketchy.
EDIT: I updated the list above. I have fully removed all Verizon apps(LGVZW ones don't count for now). They are prefixed with a "*" above and are not required to operate the phone at all. LG designed its interwoven overlay for Android without that crap in mind, so I expected it to work out, and history has shown it true for previous devices. Btw, full removal is not the same as freezing. Frozen apps can still start up. Just check a task manager, and you'll notice a few that won't die. All the ones I listed have been deleted and moved to a sdcard folder called .crap, ~850MB. Those gapps I removed aren't required to use a google account and play store. A lot can be added back through play store correctly as /data apps. The other ones prefixed with "Google" I just don't care for.
Also want to mention that the apps in /system/vendor/overlay should not be removed or frozen.

Well, I don't see those 3 apps said shouldn't be removed/frozen. I almost panicked before remembering I successfully rebooted several times yesterday. I'm looking in Titanium Backup to see what's frozen, BTW.

I think there is one called advance calling .
I just can't wait for a debloated rom, with all this crap removed .
I'm not super picky about getting everybit of performance, but I just don't know why verizon loves shooting themselves in the foot.
Updated the list with ~10 more apps that are safe to freeze.
It seems like freezing one or more of the 17 apps below causes delays with push retrieval of exchange email (or at least in apps like Mail Wise and Nine where you can disable server settings). I noticed notifications from test emails going from nearly immediate to absent unless I woke the phone or in some cases opened the mail apps. I am tired of testing this at least for now, (it seems to require a reboot between freeze/thaw to cause a change) so narrowing it down further will have to wait.

My /system is looking pretty gutted and clean. There are at about 10 apps I still want to try and remove, depending on if they do anything or not. I'm keeping about 20 I know I could remove but prefer to use them like LGCamera(I'll never delete this), Exchange, Calendar, etc. and the few gapps that are required to use google play. I use Nova and Hacker's Keyboard and ti89 app, so I removed the default home and IME(keyboard stuff) and calculator. All of the System Update and FOTA/OTA crap is gone. Everything else is blocked by AFWall, so there's no chance this phone is getting updated or is capable of updating. I'm pretty happy with the work I've done. Phone is still fully capable and very fast and battery efficient with the modifications I've done. The efficiency of my Lollipop 5.1 is approaching Jellybean 4.2/4.3 levels. Besides apps, I've also disabled a lot of services/deamons that run in the background and make your phone feel like garbage. I think I'll eventually share this stuff in an optimization thread.

Hey guys. Here's an updated list of apps I've removed from /system(by folder name):

Thanks for the list, I'll update the OP shortly.
I soft-bricked my phone attempting to remove some of the more serious Verizon system apps. Flashed a recovery kdz and re-rooted to find the true cause. In a slow process of removing 3-5 apps per reboot, I didn't even make it to the Verizon apps. Turns out removing all three Setup apps (LGSetupWizard 4.50.0, Setup Wizard 2.0, Setup Wizard 4.50.0) was enough to soft-brick it again. I am probably going to wait for a recovery before messing around and soft-bricking again.
EDIT:
Here's my list that took 4 re-flashes to get to. All of these apps were fully removed by Titanium Backup.

Can anyone list the files associated with wifi calling? I've taken the time to debloat some items from the lists provided but i think one or more of these files messed with the wifi calling. (i dont use it much, but id like the option to still be there). if anyone knows, can you post the apk and related files on here.
TIA
Question you guys just freeze the apps or you unistall them with titanium backup?

I've been freezing them. I'm not that tight on space and it is good to have them still there in case of.... Something. When a debloated Rom gets out, then I don't mind.
From my LG-G4, Rooted running Stock 5.1
Went through and froze the ones I wanted to... But one of those (I think) made my phone lose the ability to display battery percentage... Anybody know which one?

I am not aware of one that would do that, but if you unfreeze them one by and one and find one that did it, let me know and I'll update the OP!

Sorry I was being dumb. I installed a module from xposed that changed that. My bad!
Im looking for a list of standard system apps I can disable along with any bloatware (other than the obvious Sprint apps) that I can disable. A list of recommendations or the like wound be great if anyone can point me in the right direction please.
Thanks for your time...
I would love this also - for MM 6.0.1
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA-Developers mobile app
I extracted the 6.0.1 update & deleted all the apps that i didnt wanted basically all sprint & some google & Samsung apps. Went from 1.78gb to 1.2gb... everything works like it supposed to...just dont know if it will have the same effect by doing it with titanium. .honestly i dont wanna find out lol...

Unzip the rom.. Go through system /apps & system/priv-apps you can pretty much tell what is what. Remove the folders you don't want (deodexed roms}
Then re zip the rom and voila!
Place the removed folders in corresponding folders on your pc so you know what you took out.
Of course you can use titanium backup to freeze apps (recommended ) and if all is well uninstall them and in the future you'll know what is safe to remove.
Great info ,thanxs

Doing the process now, once I've flashed the modified ROM and it works I'll post details. FYI, this is my first time but it seems straightforward enough.
I just took the sourced link and edited his script file to match ours it worked flawless
note: it does get rid of SFinder and QConnect bar
So edit that out if you don't want That removed.
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B37pWIqfNmDxemZrSE9LNWZwRms&export=download
Edit to your liking and make a zip with it if anyone wants i can make one for you. just send me back the edited code
Found this here: so credit to this guyfor the script he has zips but its for the international phone.

I'm going to make a zip with this i'll test it and upload it if everything goes smooth!
Cool. Looking forward to your zip.
Thank You very much for taking your time to share your work.

awesome can't wait!
let us know how the phones battery is.
ive seen the phone battery perform worse than Lollipop, but to early to say, as ive just reflashed and wiped everything, plus had pulled the battery a few times, so it needs calibration, overall seems more responsive, the new animations are really nice, GoodLock is the cherry on the cake, makes i tfeel like a brand new phone.
My list is a cocktail of the note 4 lollipop list above and some s7 and s7e , s6 bloatware list , since the core remains the same , figured it should work and it seems like it has .
This is the list that i have used, all seems well so far , just trying to have the email app configured, it isnt picking up settings, rest all seems fine, pls note when rebuilding the zip, leave compression to support old devices, if you use tooo high a compression , the phone would not be able to unpack, i had this issue the first time around.

My good sir, you are the real MVP. Many thanks for your hard work! Just unzipped tx's PC1 stock deodexed rom and deleting the bloatware to try it out. So after deleting, I just compress and flash with TWRP?
