Things you use the stylus for ? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was wondering what all folks here are using the stylus on their note 2 ?

I use it to pick wax outa my ear because I find it not really useful for me. I am only speaking for myself.

I journal, and use it to write notes for a novel I am writing...basically the s pen is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Given the choice between gs4 or OG Note it would be a tough decision lol

I mean i only use it when im bored...its a sweet feature if you're feeling creative at the moment

i use it to write long articles and keep notes, how else am i suppose to do that without correcting every second and waiting for the device to detect a letter, i can't think of any other way. :highfive:

A quick note here and there, besides that hardly ever use it. Got this phone more for screen real estate and battery life.
Fancy pants Note ||

Browsing the web, words with friends, writing quick notes and taking notes in meetings.

Taking notes in meetings. I use the handwriting to text on the samsung keyboard most often. It recognizes my ****ty handwriting quite well. It's a godsend because I take notes in OneNote and it syncs up to my desktop OneNote instantly.

I like that idea because I take a LOT of ****ing notes on my computer. To open them up and edit them on my phone is a really difficult process right now.
1. Open Dropbox using a 4-digit pass
2. Go into /txt/ and open the .txt file.
3. Figure out what buttlog of an app is going to handle the editing of the file (whether it's DB Text Editor, ES Note Editor, SE TextEditor, or Polaris Office -- all of which suck for one reason or another)
4. Scroll endlessly to try to find which part I'm editing and then edit and save it.
I wouldn't mind that process if
-the notes were able to be saved and synced in my Dropbox folder
-were all able to be secure/encrypted
At any given point I have about 15 tabs open on Notepad++ on my computer all with sensitive data. Maybe you have an easy solution for me without making a 20MB~ Truecrypt file I'd have to send/receive each time I want to edit my notes on my device.

Same here. I never use the stylus. It fell out once when I dropped my phone, so I put it back in and covered the opening with black electrical tape. I have a black case, so it looks clean.

I use it to Swype like a madman. It's fast.

My S3 (stock rom/everything) is so much better than my note in every way but one.... (minus the screen size for movies)
On my note I could go to desktop websites and view movies/open emails and all of the pictures would be there... (yes, I select display all images)
On my S3... it says I am missing a plug in, but the plug in isnt compatible for my phone or makes no difference, I cannot remember...
I am sure this is a simple fix, but I dont want to root my phone or any business like that.

Great note taking app?

Yeah, I use my nexus 7 for school, and I'm a Softmor and we take notes a lot, and I was wondering if there was a app, that I could use my stylis to latterly write and it would transfer it to text...so I can print it and put it in my notebook. Thx

Evernote. Hands down best note taking app - will sync to your Evernote account online and all devices you have the Evernote app on will have synced identical data (notes). Virtually impossible to lose your notes unless something happens to your N7 before being able to connect to wifi for syncing

Sorry, jumped the gun on my reply without reading your entire question... Though Evernote may actually have this sort of functionality

I don't have the same needs as you, and just use Papyrus when I need to take notes, and then manually transcribe stuff after the meeting is over. Google suggests PhatPad may do what you're looking for (handwriting recognition & conversion), but I have no firsthand experience with it.

yea used a plain targus stylus too, nothing fancy. had to explore all the features and play around with the app to really get to know everything it can do.
ive tried supernote on the nexus 7 but without any DPI change the app cut off some of the menu bar. I used supernote all the time when I had the transformer, but i like freenote more now since it has the ability to export multiple pages into a single PDF
Evernote!!
Here's why:
Simple, and easy to use!
Saves into your account when you put it aside!
Full screen, when you're in note-taking mode!
Spell Check, Features work well together (for example, voice recording as you take notes!), no bugs, no crashing
I recommend using a Bluetooth keyboard. It makes note taking with a phone or tablet
so much easier. It's also awesome, and nice to show off. Way better than having a laptop because of less space, and very light.
You can find a good keyboard for about $50.
I think its essential for taking notes
Check out this thread I've installed it and it works great http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526433
There was a note taking app that came with the transformer prime. It does exactly what you asked. It was ASUS bloat so its not on play store, but you could probably get someone to pull the apk.

Tis called supernote the apk is floating around here if not findable pm found it works best in landscape with dpi of <180 but at the moment I'm quite drunk so best not to put too much stock in what I say. Right now I'm engrossed in the life aquatic
So stay cool
Evernote ++ Swype
As silly as it might seem, i can take notes effectively using Evernote and swype in combination. I was a compulsive note taker in my University days but my handwriting was never good and now it's worse than awful. I find with swype I can enter text pretty quickly - probably as fast as handwriting.
I really want to suggest evernote.
Hands down the best way to keep notes. Its search feature easily scrolls through typed and handwritten notes with ease. I think it also somehow scans images for context.
Regardless of how you get it down, make sure it ends up in evernote.
I am an IT Admin with several certs. When I take cert classes through evernote, I can easily find the information when in the field regardless if I'm on my phone, tablet, PC or anything. Really saves me tons of hassle.
Also these tablets aren't good at handwriting with a stylus. You can do it but it is sloppy. You end up with a mess at the end and it sucks.
Get a Bluetooth keyboard if your better with that, or a good virtual keyboard. Create some folders in Evernote specific to a topic or by class. School/Math101/Chapter7, etc

To all the people pointing out that flow doesn't work in Google Search (or similar areas) and claim it's okay, let me remind you that with the 4.2 keyboard, swiping is available everywhere, even where predictions aren't. Just because some searches are not standard (e.g. dotson817), the vast majority of my searches are with English words.
Either the API for swiping anywhere is locked, or SwiftKey dropped the ball. Seeing as to how long this beta took to drop, I'm guessing the latter.

Maybe sync to Google was the wrong way to put it. What I was thinking, was I noticed that when I flashed a new ROM, and brought up the S note app use, all of my old notes we're still there. For that I was very grateful because I forgot to backup the app.
I use a stylus a lot because I use it to draw up drills for soccer practice, to take notes on the sideline during matches in things to cover at half time, training session ideas for my clients , warm up ideas for class, and etc.

Doesn't S-note already sync? I know ive flashed my rom several times (clean) and always my stuff is still there without any sort of restore from TiBu etc.. my guess is that it is syncing maybe to samsung? i know ive logged into my samsung acct as i set up the new rom... and each time everything is there in s-note.. so that would be my guess.. but regardless of who it is doing it with, i think s-note does what you are asking i think.. unless (as above) you are trying to sync it specific to something like google calendar or something
It does sync. However, I am thinking about flashing a ROM that does not have s note app. So I will need to find an alternative

The Galaxy Note 3 Experience

Hey Guys,
This is my first post and i am trying to bring something useful and try to be as much active as possible and as a thanks to the hard work from the
developers for their solid Custom ROMS
Ever been curious about using a Note device, but never given one a try? Well Samsung is hoping that an app in the Play Store called the Galaxy Note 3 Experience will help you discover all of its great features. You get a chance to watch some promo videos, and live interactive full-screen tutorials showing how features work on the Note 3 on whatever device you currently use.
to get it go to
Google Play and search for
"GALAXY Note 3 Experience"
thank you

I totally agree they want this phone sale to try and beet the Iphone 5c but there no much a big of a difference between the s4 and note 3 beside the big screen and some minor features that they are not worth the extra money.

The Note2 has something called popup browser where you can open an internet browser window (samsung's browser only I think) and move it anywhere on screen. I'm not aware of popup browser on the S4. The Note3 expands the popup window to work with other apps. The Note2 and 3's multitasking abilities are amazing. Multiwindow is just the tip of the ice burg. Too bad it's so big and heavy (inconvenient to carry in pant pockets). I don't think I'll get another phone that's larger than 5 inches (screen).
