[Q] how to Install cm on xperia play, need Noob step by step - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I'm noob with installing roms. I want to install cm because i'm tired for the orginal 2.3.4 and i'm wondering if the touchpads and game pads work with Cyanogenmod.
I want noob step by step how to install CM( which CM is the best Stable or Nightly?) and how to unlock bootloader
If there is better rom like a JB rom you can write it )

Did you search for it before asking?
bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017679
for cm9 based:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897
most cm roms for play have touchpad support
jb roms are cool but usually not what people want for gaming in comparison to gb
by best you must mean best for you so i wouldn't know, try some out.

here is a complete how-to:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_zeus
download the latest nightly build here:
http://get.cm/?type=nightly&device=zeus
cm9.1 is one of the most stable, reliable and fast ics out there. daily driver for me.
after krisdee's touchpad fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41961511&postcount=801), everything is perfect for me.
(you should get familiar with making your own cwm-patch or how to copy files to the /system dir. applying krissdee's fix works but to not mess with false updates in cm-updater, you should apply the build.prop edits yourself. copy the framework.jar and touchpadfix apk manually. or just edit krissdee's patch with the latest build.prop and just flash it.)
and no need for fancy mods to speed it up like adreno v3 drivers are needed. just watch our processes, disable some startup items and everything should run smooth and fine. but that are basics and to keep the phone clean and managed should be in every tech-savvy's mind.

Scoot CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RLS3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) [07/08/11]

Scoot CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RLS3
This is a build I have compiled from the official CyanogenMod source files and adapted for Kaiser/Vogue. Feel free to give it a go at your own risk!
Well, it still isn't quite as snappy as Froyo and the camera still doesn't work properly but it's probably about as fast as Gingerbread will get on our devices. I'm bound to have messed a few things up but i'll continue to work on it when I get time
All the usual things are working as far as i know, GPS works fine for me but the camera is as always not fully functional.
All of this is thanks to the guys working on the CyanogenMod roms and of course, none of this would work without all the hard work on the kernel so big thanks to dzo, vilord, l1q1d etc...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RLS 1:
Initial Release
Includes most of the Google Apps including Maps, Gmail etc..
Latest Market is included
RLS2:
Built from the latest 7.0.2 source
Optimised EGL for our devices
Updated Market
LDPI and PNG optimisations to save space & increase speed
ADW Launcher updated
Loads of tweaks and status bar changes
Updated RIL lib
Loads of fixes and optimisations
**I recommend leaving the phone for 5 minutes after installing to sort itself out and cache apps etc...**
RLS3:
I can't really be bothered to list all of the changes, there are quite a few but I just compile the thing, the changes are in the CyanogenMod repository. I have included the updated RIL and all of the Google Apps are up to date. The camera is still ****e but that's a driver issue. This release hasn't been heavily tested as I don't use my Kaiser as a main phone anymore So i'm sure you will find issues in which case we can sort them out as and when. Enjoy!

This is an alpha and still needs a fair bit of work to get it running to it's full potential but you can get an idea of what it will be like. Feel free to report any bugs that you find, by this i mean application crashes and things that don't work or look correct. I already know the system can hang and it isn't as fast a froyo
I have had to make a LOT of modifications for this to work, some of which may affect battery life but i haven't tested it for long enough to know so let me know how it goes. I'm bound to have messed a few things up but i'll continue to work on it when i get time

Excellent, thanks Scooter.

woow, million thanks to you scooter
finally a gingerbread based build for our kaiser
btw, which kernel do you suggest for this build?
thanks in advance
Hmm for some reason I cannot boot to android the phone has been stuck in boot loop for the last 15 minutes. I have an app.img file with about 80 applications so this might be a problem I'll try to boot it without the app.img. Both data and system on sd card imgs + latest '25 kernel.
Edit.
Ok I have removed the apps.img and it still doesn't boot.
I have noticed that there have only been modules for '32 kernel included in the build. Should it work with '25 kernel with proper modules added?
I'll wait for All Languages version to test it with the new kernel.
1. this was my first attempt to instal android on nand.. noob here ;P
downloaded kernel VOGUIMG-320-FROYO-01-16-11.NBH, then changed with editor to kaiser and painel 2. Install occured ok.... but phone isn't working.. "no service".
2. I do i see my batery status? can only see that bar on the top but don't no accurate bat status in %.
3. after this install can i install another another version overwrithing this one? for example now the phone isn't working so i want to change to another version of android can i simply put another "androidinstal.tar" in andboot folder and install?
Thanks and sorry for this noob questions...

YES! you can
To view Battery percentage, you need to set that in Cyanogenmod Settings (correct me if I'm wrong here since its been ages when I used CM build)
Yes, you can do that it's actually very simple. Just remember to edit your .nbh before every install if you are changing versions (donut, froyo, eclair).
Cheers. Welcome to Android world

Try a .32 kernel, also i have only tested it on NAND so it may be an issue with Haret. To be honest we're lucky it works with the .32 kernel so i expect problems with the .25 kernel. Sorry

I recommend using the latest .32 kernel you can find, either one that L1q1d has compiled or one from Clemsyn's thread You can find the latest kernel here: http://androidhtc.git.sourceforge.n...7c0bf5edc4f5c6d64ce4df29254e8332ce26b;hb=HEAD
Well have installed 6.1 and phone now works... =)
Will wait until a new version of this one to come out and then try again...
- Already found how to show percentage in bar status thanks dark_prince.
- Thanks for advice slimas, to edit .nbh do i need to reinstall kernel? and can i reinstall without mess up with previous android install or do i need to install again android?
- Some bugs that occurred to me .. sometimes bar on the bottom disappear can't access apps... ; some freezing sometimes, do you guys recommend to overlock? if so how to do it? Weather widget can't find info too lol not a serious prob...
I'm reading forum and these are some questions i couldn't find answer, for now i think that's all.. i'm enjoying android on kaiser think this is the time i will change forever...
thanks for fast feedback any good tips are welcome ;P

The bar at the bottom of the scrren can disappear if you swipe down on the screen, it is a bit random but is a flaw in ADW launcher. To get it back you need to press the 'menu' button and go to 'settings' then go to 'ADW Settings, UI Settings and untick 'Dockbar'. Re-select 'Dockbar' and exit settings and it should be back I expect some freezing, it is still under heavy development and our devices are quite limited hardware wise so there won't be any miracles yet I overclock my Kaiser to 500Hz using ATools, a lot of people don't recommend it but it is what i have always done and i have never had any problems, it speeds the phone up a fair amount. Just tick the option when editing your NBH. The phone obviously needs to be connected to data or wifi for weather widget to get location information, i just tried it with wifi and it worked ok, there may be an issue with data though, i'll look into it Thanks for testing.
CAMERA
camera is not working properly but it looks awesome i will try to apply the update from previous cm to see if this will work
camera
after applying the update android can`t start so i am going reinstall it

[ROM][WIP|UNSTABLE][SENSE 3.5a]WildExplorer Beta 5[Explorer Port|A2SD|Rooted]

This is a port of the latest Explorer OTA (1.17). This is in early development atm but should be safe to try, please make a backup first.
Features:
Rooted
Stock kernel for now
Busybox
Sense 3.5a
Based off latest EU OTA (1.17)
Please post feedback on this, and if possible be as detailed as possible, if it does not boot run logcat and paste it to pastebin for me to look at.

STATUS: NOT BOOTING
Fear not, we have been working on several builds without posting them and we have made some headway. It now gets to the bootanimation but no further. We are currently trying to sort out a framework issue which is preventing the rom from booting correctly.
If you want to download the rom for testing purposes it is here: http://djpc.org.uk/roms/WildExplorer-Beta5.zip
I am happy for people to try and fix this by themselves, but please give credit for the work already done.

Use the libs and kernel from our latest RUU and include them in the explorer ROM.
Try first if that explorer rom cant boot on his own (same processor ... only different cam.)
edit: put the link of the explorer rom in your post. I wil try porting too if I've got time.
Good luck
It's a kernel issue. Do you use marvel kernel, or the explorer one?
This is the latest RUU from htc explorer. Don't flash it on your WFS.
donwload here!
Use it as a base for porting sense 3.5.
Have build 3 different versions but no boot.
Alquez should try this, he knows which libs stand for what function.

Im well aware on how porting works, i tried several ways, first i attempted to use kitchen but that was useless, second was where i manually moved kernel and libs into the explorer rom again this did not make bootanimation. Third attempt was to put the framework and apks of the explorer in the marvel rom, this got us to bootanimation.
From there logcat was having issues with framework, so i merged the frameworks of the two roms, and this pushed us a little further. Since the marvel framework was deodexed, it caused issuses so i deodexed the explorer stuff, and then we are where we are now. I will try and work on this today but I am very busy so my time will be limited and I have another rom to work on already

[Q] How to root and flash

I know these threads of newbies can be annoying, since it's been posted a million times, but please hear me out.
First I just tried to root my device but I don't think it worked, since I checked with root checker and it says my device isn't rooted. I used this method:
Download
DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v2.0](zergRush Exploit)
You made need:
Xperia Play [Neo Arc] AcroIS11 Acro S0-02C USB Drivers
Before You Begin
(1) Make sure you have installed ADB drivers for your device.
(2) Enable "USB DEBUGGING" from (Menu\Settings\Applications\Development).
(3) Enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES" from (Menu\Settings\Applications).
(4) [OPTIONAL] Increase screen timeout to 10 minutes.
(5) Connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC.
Instructions
(1) Download the attached file, extract it using Winzip.
(2) Proceed to the folder where you extracted the contents then execute "RUNME.bat"
(3) MAKE SURE to read and follow the instructions on the screen! That's it!

Is there another "easy" method to root my Xperia R800at play?

And for the Custom Rom... I have been reading a lot on this forum, but I'm still a bit confused so please bare with me.
First - I've read that the ICS and JB don't really do justice when it comes to the gaming, and that Gingerbread is the best software for when it comes for the full xperia play experience?
Second - I would like a Gingerbread custom rom that's very very stable and smooth. My Wifi connection is a bit unstable so I'm hoping that a custom rom might fix that.
Third - Can someone provide me with a download link for the best Gingerbread custom rom, and the easiest method to put the rom on my device?
I also find that some games like Grand theft auto and Fifa are really laggy at times and after gameplay my phone really slows down, doesn't matter how many times I use the task manager to kill all the application. I've already updated to the latest official software of at&t but I'm not really satisfied.
I'm sorry if I wrote to much or demand to much lol, but please help me out. I will like the crap out of you if you do:highfive:
Can you guys please help me out here......
You should download flashtools http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299 in that post you can see the link to download.
the rom that I use is jellyzeus, is a JB rom, it's so great fast, no lag here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021373
you have to flash this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817548 version 7a works fine.
If you want a ICS rom you should try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854682 This rom is so great, unoficial rom from sony, everything works on it.
Sorry for my English, hope this help you.

And it isn't hard either to not be a ***** about it. Posts like this are completely useless. Don't you think I've done that? Or anyone else that's a member of this site? How do you think I've found this site in the first place? A lot of the information on the internet is very vague, especially for noobs. So forgive us, for not wanting to **** up are newly bought phones, and for wanting explicit information.

Well I am not aware of any 4.0 or above ROMs that can be flashed via ODIN. I am sure if any developer wants, they may be able to do it but I really think that flashing via recovery is always a better choice compared to ODIN. I see no advantage for ODIN flash...
Do you mind telling me why do you need odin flash???

Well, I'm more familiar with Odin flashing compared to recovery mode, and it's a whole lot easier compared to other flashing methods. Do you have root access on your phone? Every step is actually quite easy to follow. There are really good guides on both general and development sections. But beforewe delve into howto's you should clarify what constitutes STABLE for you...
We have ICS (4.04) as well as JB ( 4.1.2 and 4.2.2) in the development section. All are pretty good but here and there they may have some bugs. Just go to their threads check them out. On the very first page of a ROM thread what works and what doesn't are listed. Decide whether you can live with one of them then we can talk about howto's.
I recommend CM9, CM10 and CM10.1 all from the developer arco68...
OHHH with a custom recovery, you don't even need a computer to flash a new ROM. That surely is a bonus...

I have root access on my phone. Well, I don't see the ROM thread that you mentioned. Stable means that the ROM is not easy to crash or eats up my RAM even when I'm not using it, while common bugs are still acceptable if they can be fixed (I can't find threads from arco68, so I don't know what you mean by his CM9 and all those so...)
Hope you can enlighten me more about this recovery method and the difference between the CMs (if possible, also include any differences between ICS and JB b'coz I don't know which one to choose)
Recovery is super easy:
Download the zip and put it on your SD (internal or external, makes no difference)
Then turn of your phone
Press and hold Volume up + Power button + home button
Once the screen turns on, release the power button, but keep holding onto the other two
Then the recovery menu shows up
choose install zip from SD
select the zip and hit install
finished

Now, flash the ROM (any of the three is fine. I personally recommend CM9 or 10 cus its in its RC stages, which means Resource... something)
The instructions is on the ROM page itself. And you're done. I or arco are not held responsible if your phone is screwed up in the process (very little chance) or
if your heart fails because its loading for a longer period than it should be.

In CM9, I see that the ClockworkMod needed is 5.5.xxxx, so wouldn't CM9 crash if i use the 6.0.3.0 version instead of 5.5.xxxx?
And also, does the CM9 have any bugs? Because I saw some in the posts by people about CM10 but not CM9 (refer to links of above comments)
Anyway, it is a pleasure to receive help from you and the person above.

Well obviously, since its a custom ROM, its bound to have bugs. There's no such thing as a "perfect" ROM. And I have 6.0.1.something CWM and I have flashed every single ROM, from 9-10.1. So it shouldn't be a problem.

I believe I have caused some misinterpretation here. What I mean is that I want to know if there is anything that's not working in CM9. The stuff below is found from the CM9 thread.
What's working:
Audio
Receiving and making calls
GPS
Compass
Proximity sensor
Wifi
Bluetooth
USB mass storage
HW accelerated gui
HW accelerated video
Camera
Torch
Wifi and USB tethering
There isn't anything that's not shown as "not working", so I'm asking you about it just for confirmation.
If there isn't anything, I will flash CM9 soon.

I just noticed something in your post. Just to clarify, RC mean "Release Candidate" not resource something... Just so you know. First alpha's come, then beta's, and right before a FINAL version is released in which most of the bugs are squashed, a release candidate comes to make sure everything is working. If for example, no bugs remain in a release candidate, it is renamed to FINAL as far as I know
However, there are different understanding of these names on the internet. For example, for some, once a product is in a BETA phase, no more new features added from there on. However, that may not be true for CM releases here, I am not sure.
and @zacszy, both CM9 and CM10 are pretty stable. I have not encountered any show stopping bugs but that maybe because of the way I use my phone, as I dont play games. I use it mostly for productivity, internet surfing, couple of youtube videos, music...
Try them all. I am sure you will pick one that suits your needs..

Thanks for the definition. Just saying, you can't call it fully stable cuz .... well that's impossible. It is only nearly stable.... you may have not said it but I'm just saying. Haha
Can your single core run 4.1? My Galaxy W can! That's how I sent this!

[4.0][ICS][ROM]Mackay CM9 2014 1.7 (25-mar-14)

Because of all the slowdowns in kitkat, I decided to give ICS another try.
Specs:
-Based on CyanogenMod 9
-With Mackay kernel (updated to 3.0.101, updated governors & schedulers, XL RAM some other nice stuff):
https://github.com/kasperhettinga/samsung-kernel-aries/commits/mackay-cm9-2014
-TWRP 2.2.2.0
-no 720p possible, XLMem (do not ask for other flavours, I just make a one-flavour option tuned for smoothness)
Download:
https://s.basketbuild.com/devs/kasperhettinga/sgs/rom/pre-KK//
Gapps:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
This are the latest official gapps. Newer gapps can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.om/showpost.php?p=50748003&postcount=135
(I haven't tested this package, I also don't think latest gapps is relevant, as gapps get updated through Play Store anyway)
Install:
-From existing CM9: install on top + flash gapps
-From any jellybean ROM: you can try to install it on top, but it may result in bootloops, requiring flashing GB through Odin (see below for next steps). Flash ROM. Flash gapps.
-From stock Samsung GB: install CF-ROOT-CWM kernel, or any other CWM containing kernel. Flash ROM. Flash gapps.
You need to flash gapps on every new build, backup/restore of gapps does not work yet!
If you have space issues, you can use a solution to bind /datadata to /data partition:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50653795&postcount=55
THIS IS NOT AN ADVICE TO DO THIS! I do not like this solution, as it will slow down your phone (especially with the slow internal memory chip). And it goes against my lean & mean philosophy for this ROM. Therefore: please think well before doing this!

Are there any cherrypicks from CM10/11 or other aosp based builds to this interesting project?
woah .! ?
Few bugs:
1. About Phone - CM Upader = FC Settings
2. Preformence = No schedular option
Runs smooth and excellent.
great works great perfomance

Wow, that was totally unexpected! Thank you very much! @kasper_h I was wondering: does your rom use the older partition layout, that was introduced in ics, which caused datadata to be full, or the jb one? It would be awesome if you switched to the newer partition layout *.*

1 will solve in future update
2 ics never had. Requires more than a single patch I believe.

You remember it wrong
ICS always had a small system & small datadata partition, both on the fast Onenand. This was actually the fastest layout I ever worked with. The changes in layout all happened in jellybean. And I will not start using jellybean partition layouts: I strive for speed and simplicity, which fits perfectly with the ICS layout.

@kasper_h I have 3 questions:
1. No 720p support at all or only 720p recording is disabled but 720p playback still works?
2. If there's no Performance->Scheduler option in ICS, can schedulers be selected using other ways?
3. zRAM , KSM are still there ? (sorry I am used to your KK kernel)
Ty!

1. 720 playback should work, but I didn't check and I don't have my phone here now
2. Yes, any cpu tuning app like nstools can be used
3. zRAM is on the to-do list, KSM should already work

Alright then I have a problem though: I can't donwload any apps from the Play Store, also, it won't update itself. The error I get when I try to download something is 403
WOOOHOO!
My dreams came true, it actually happened!
You know, I was testing out CM9 a few times and I noticed huge improvements in smoothness and stuff like that, but the most impressive thing that I realised was that the chrome browser was not lagging at all! I think this means something!
I just have a few questions:
Is it possible to port CMA here? (it's not really necessary, I'm just wondering)
Aaand what about all those super cool features from Omni ROMs? Is there any way to port those? (again it's not necessary at all, I'm just asking)
Anyway I hope the development of this ROM will continue. Going to install this right away! :good: :good:
If you'll continue working on this ROM and we'll continue using it, we can make together the fastest and the best ROM ever made for our SGS, I believe!
The guys. Collect this ROM for Vibrant. Please!
Wow, our aging i9000 gets an encore ICS build!
What a joy! I will try!
I have a question regarding my old official CM9 nandroid backup done with Semaphore 1.3.0: is it worth trying to advanced restore only its data with Sema 1.3.0 to this ROM, and then flash this ROM over it to retain Mackay kernel back and my beloved TWRP with it?

Google Play Store is not updating itself aswell. Got the same problem with 403 . Coming from Android 4.4.2, I've flashed an Android 4.3.1 kernel, reboot to recovery, flashed CM9 twice, full wipe with system format, flashed Mackay CM9 and ICS gapps. Full wiped and system format, flashed the ROM again with gapps and the 403 error was still there. Then I've tried to go back to CM11 and the 403 error persisted.
Went back to stock GB and rooted it using Odin3 and then flashed Mackay CM9 and ICS gapps, now 403 is not showing up but another error appeared (921) and I've tried to clear data for Download Manager, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, removed my Google Account and rebooted. Then I've re-added the Google Account and now the 403 error reappeared.
@kasper_h got any ideas ?

-CMA is not worth it, would hardly give more free RAM.
-Due to major overhauls in Android between ICS->JB->KitKat it will be nearly impossible to port anything back. Also, my motto for this ROM is lean & mean.

My play store is working and was updated automatically. I could manually install apps, and some gapps (TTS, Search) were updated fine as well. Maybe try deleting Play Store data, as that seems like the best way in any Android revision to solve Play Store issues.

That didn't work for me.
I tried to:
-delete Play Store data
-reflash rom & gapps
-manually update Play Store & then try to install apps, delete Play Store data
-etc,etc, nothing helped.
Now I'm trying another gapps package.
EDIT: Success! The updated 4.0.4 gapps package from this thread works for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294152
