Do you have the superuser app in your launcher? have you actually opened it and given rights to things?
Well, I've installed superuser, opened it. It has app list, log list, which are both empty and a settings page. I opened the settings page to see if there was something to enable permissions, there wasn't. I've decided to go into hboot, do a factory reset. It took me into recovery and I wiped data/cache/dalvik. I tried installing a new rom, got an error status 1. Did some research, they said to run a scandisk, I did, it didn't change anything. So now I'm trying to root again using the ADB method since I don't have a rom on my phone and it fails to install a new one. So I'm stuck in recovery. ffs. lol. Now I'm having trouble with CMD commands as the guide says to write specific commands, which I write and it says they don't exist. Anyone willing to add me via MSN or yahoo and help me through this? I would GREATLY appreciate it.
I'll elaborate to exactly what I did ---- (My phone came with 2.2 with the option to OTA 2.3.3, I did NOT upgrade to 2.3.3)
Received my phone today in the mail. Loaded it up. Went directly to the non-adb root page here on xda. Downloaded the files, followed the directions exactly. Downloaded clockworkmod, flashed 5.0.2.0 recovery. Downloaded MIUI via clockworkmod. Rebooted my phone into recovery. Wiped data/cache/dalvik. Installed MIUI. Booted into MIUI. Downloaded Titanium backup to recover some files from my old phone(sd card), got that error saying I wasn't rooted. Tried downloading superuser, that didn't fix it. Downloaded busybox, and busybox wouldn't install because it said I wasn't rooted.
Rebooted into recovery, got stuck at white HTC logo screen. Removed battery. Restarted phone into hboot. Clicked factory reset which restarted the phone into recovery. Inside recovery, I wiped data/cache/dalvik again. Tried installing a new rom, got error status 1.
From here, I attempted to root via ADB method. Followed all the steps but HTCsync couldn't connect to my phone. Although it "adb devices" command recognized my phone and most of the adb commands were working (it seemed). I rebooted my phone into recovery after playing on adb for about an hour. I tried reinstalling that new rom and it installed! Well...sort of. Instead of getting an error, it said installed, but it was almost instantaneous. I knew something had fudged up. So I rebooted my phone anyway just to see if it had taken the new rom. It didn't.
I rebooted back into recovery, cleared data/cache/dalvik and reinstalled MIUI successfully. Now I'm in MIUI and it says there's no root. I tried connecting HTCSync via MIUI, it failed. I'm unable to use HTCSync with MIUI? Anyway, now I'm stuck and I have NO idea what to try next. Been at this for a few hours now and can't seem to get anyone to nudge me in the right direction. Thanks for reading.
Does your bootloader screen actually indicate that the phone is S-OFF ? It seems like you didn't complete a full root process and you're stuck half way so to speak.
I thought that's what happened. So what I did was, went ahead and put the stock rom back on my phone. I downloaded the PC10IMG and updated via bootloader. Now I'm back on 2.2. I can't get HTCSync to connect so ADB method is out of the question. Some version information, not sure if it's useful to you, but I still want to root my phone, just don't think that method works for me, not sure why.
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband version: 12.22.60.09bU_26---blah blah
Kernel: 2.6.32.17
Build number 1.19.531.1 CL---blah blah
Is that sufficient info for a pro dev to assist me? I've disabled my firewall aswell as windows defender to see if that would allow me to connect through HTCSync, but that didn't help. So now I have to find a new method of rooting my phone..
Problem solved. Started back from stock and tried the same method again but with different recovery. Viola! Success. Thanks anyway.

You all likely heard about FreedomPop's new beta this week featuring a "guaranteed 500 MBs of data, 500 text messages, and 200 anytime voice minutes for free each month."
http://www.freedompop.com/byod
Our phone is one of the supported models.
After you sign up, which involves giving them your phone's MEID and getting a new phone number, you're instructed to dial ##786# (which just ends in a dialing error for me), select the "reset" option, and use the MSL that they give you (which may be wrong, btw, so check it) to reset the phone and reboot.
Clarification: OK, so I discovered that the format is as follows for this phone, but I'm looking to avoid it: *#*#786#*#*
I don't want to reset my phone, however, and no one can explain why it's needed. Ting doesn't need it to activate:
https://help.ting.com/entries/25654386-Activating-a-BYOD-Phone-with-a-New-Number
Why does FreedomPop and is there any way around it? Surely there is.
Hmm. I just set up an account, gave them my MEID, updated profile and PRL and downloaded the app and didn't have to do any kind of reset whatsoever.

I think I've now seen those other instructions, where they say to do a carrier wipe (*#*#72786#*#*), system update, profile update, and PRL update, so I tried that but was met with an immediate roadblock: you can't do those things on CM. So now I have to temporarily go back to a stock ROM. Sigh.
First, can you at least confirm that data will work on 3G? Because that's all I have in my area.
Second, if I do go back to a stock ROM and make the above changes, will a Nandroid of my CM, later restored, wipe out those changes?

Well I am on TouchWiz (Project X) so probably. Idk about restoring a nand as this is my first day on it. 3G works great, seems like it uses Sprints towers (they mention Wimax on the website). So I would say flash back to TouchWiz, set everything up, make a backup and then try restoring your other backup. I would think after you're all set up you should be good because everything is done through their app. Kinda like Groove IP but with real service included.
PS- I didn't even do the carrier wipe
There, these are the instructions I got via email
I ended up going this route to update profile/PRL, and it worked:
http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/2012/05/temporary-stock-e4gt-from-emmc.html
One unfortunate thing is that when you update profile, it forces a reboot, and when you reboot doing the above you go right back into CWM. So you have to install the ROM again just to get back in to GB so that you can also update the PRL. No doubt there's a better way of going about this, but I don't know what it is.
Anyway, once you've done that, you can intentionally go back to CWM and put CM back on. Nothing is lost in the process.
Could I get some help in figuring out why my epic 4g touch, which was on a Sprint account until 3 days ago.. and working fine... was not able to activate thru freedompop's website.
It said that the device was not supported. Anyone have an idea why this would occur?
Due to MSL-related issues or something else, they rolled back the devices that they're accepting. It is just a beta. As of 4 days ago, this was the list:
http://slickdeals.net/f/6449794-fre...voice-text-data-plans?p=63469084#edit63469084
Believe it or not, Facebook seems to be their primary support outlet, so perusing messages there should give you more current information. If you send them a private message, they're also good about responding. Fortunately, I signed up on the first day (which is not activating, btw), and that must be enough to bless you for later activation, since I only did that this weekend (after our device had been temporarily dropped from the list).

Oh, OK, so the order apparently doesn't matter. I might have tried that but I didn't know that the original order would ask for a reboot, so it was too late.
Install backup of Sprint Update app?
I'm hoping to resurrect this thread, but if it doesn't work, I'll start a new one.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SPH-D710 that I'm using on FreedomPop. I've been able to successfully activate it on FreedomPop and get calls, texts, and data on a stock rom. I'd like to use Cyanogenmod 11, but I haven't been able to get the FreedomPop activation to work. I've tried flashing a stock rom, doing a prl and profile update, then flashing CM again, but can't get it to work.
While tinkering with the phone I had an idea: If I backup the Sprint Update app that updates the profile and prl on a stock rom with Titanium Backup or Root Uninstaller or something similar, can I then install the .apk that's generated on a CM install? I've tried this, but haven't been able to get it to work yet. Anyone with more knowledge have any ideas on this? I could post the apk I generated, if that would help.
So I have a Sprint Galaxy Note II... I'm all jumbled up, i did a load of work on it way back and just now read about the knox counter... i got a lil worried and checked to see what mine was... there was NO COUNTER and both of my entries said CUSTOM and my flash count is 4...
I'm Confused cause i cant get my wifi to turn on ATALL and my white back has paint cracks, so i was gonna take it in to sprint... how am i supposed to do that? i have the knox apps on my phone, but no knox counter in odin mode. i know i can root my phone and reset my flash counter and set my phone back up to stock roms and settings... I've attached a picture and odin details to depict this problem. if someone could give me the best solution here, should i take my phone in or keep it seeing as it does not have knox... also, as far as i know i don't have root accesses atm. but every time i boot my phone it says SU permissions has stopped working. when i updated it did it through the sprint network so it was an official rom. i didn't get a choice it just happened one night when i was sleeping. i had 4.2 rooted with custom recovery (e3) and i still have that custom recovery. please help me XDA Forum users.. your my only hope.

Well first of all DO NOT take your phone to the Sprint store the way it is. It's pretty obvious that somehow your phone was able to download and install an OTA on top of your already rooted phone. It sounds like you're gonna have to put your phone back to factory ROM no matter what because you're phone is now pretty messed up and you want to take it in to get it swapped. I see no other choice but to odin your phone back to stock.
Install and flash billards back to stock un root, with counter reset, you won't have any issues..
It's not broken, just flaws to its pretty white look. I would never take it in the way it is. I DO NOT WANT A KNOX COUNTER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! I just need my wifi working. Can I flash back to 4.2? If so could I get a link to a step by step tutorial? Thanks for the reply guys.

What you posted is not a knox counter. That is standard for any platform.. I'm currently back to mc2 stock and mine says the same thing.. Knox counter you will have a warranty void entry at the bottom..

Here you go. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
download MC2 and put it on your external sd card, then wipe everything EXCEPT your external sd card and flash. it takes just a few minutes and your phone will be like it come out of the box. Once it's done you can then take it to the sprint store for whatever reason.

Back your contacts up to google, not the phone.. When you flash a new rom, then set it up google will install all of your contacts from your google account.. I do not use titanium for anything other than un-installing things I do not want..

What steps are you doing? Post and I will see what your issue is and try to get you back on track.
I put the zip in the root of my sd card, backed up my photos, shut down my phone, boot into recovery, and apply update from sd card, select my zip, it begins to load up reading
"install/update from sd..." the next thing I see is "digital signature verification failed" it runs a few lines so quick I can't read them and reboots all messed up, I restart, and I'm right where I began.
That's exactly what I'm doing. Idk what recovery I have, it just says "recovery menu (e3)" with a blue backdrop. Dose this help?

Are you on a custom rom now? or are you stock? I need to know so I can get a better idea of how to move you into the right direction once and for all.
See that's the thing. Odin says I'm on custom everything with a count of 4. But my phone updated through the sprint network while I was sleeping one day so It used an official rom, but I never got a Knox counter, and my recover and everything never went back to stock.
Sorry if the problem is innoying, if you want I could make a video showing the problem and link you to it.

Everytime to flash a rom, you will have a flash count. With the knox thing that is a prart of the MK4 update, but it can be ridden with no problem.
Flash back to 100% pure stock unrooted with stock recovery.. When you are done, and you go back to download mode, you will not see the knox count, only the normal one you would see if flashing a none MK4 rom.. If your phone is out of warranty, then do not worry about the knox counter.. If it is still under warranty, when you need to go to the Sprint store, by flashing back to unroooted stock MC2, the knox counter will not show, and everything will show normal instead of custom..
So follow these steps once again.
1)Put (if you have not already) Billards Stock MC2 unrooted with counter reset on your external Sdcard.
2) If you do not already have one, install a custom recovery.
3)Boot to your custom recovery and do a complete wipe cache, delvik cache, data, system..
4) once done install the zip
5) Once the zip starts billards version of TWRP will start. when it does do a complete wipe again.
6) Go to install and choose the billards zip again and run it
7) When it is done it choose reboot, but it will reboot into a special feature included, but you have to do nothing else. Once it is done it will boot let it do its thing, and when done you should be back to 100% MC2 stock..
When it is all done, set up your phone like you would normally do.. At some point sprint will tell you about a system update.. Let it run on its own and you should be at MK4. Yes you will have the know counter, but that is no real big deal,as I mentioned earlier.
Yesssss! - update
I got knox disbled and got clockworkmod recovery going. got the zip installed after wipeing my cache and then got stuck in the wonderful boot loop.
got into stock recovery, wiped cache again, factory reset the device....... AND BAMN!!!! just like new thanks for your help guys. so happy to be able to take my phone in and get it replaced.
Congtats see it is not all that complicated.

I have a Sph-L900 Sprint Galaxy Note 2. About a month ago the device started acting up Saying it couldn't connect to my Samsung Account, and the only way I was able to fix it was a factory reset. That soon turned into not being able to connect to my Google account and knox issues where something was trying to access my device administrator, and the only fix was to keep updating the samsung security police. The device began shutting off and restarting about two to three times a day with the same error notifications popping up on start up. I kept doing a factory reset in order to get ride of the issues but would reappear shortly after.
I have never tried to root my phone because I wanted to wait for my contract to be up before messing around with it.The most I have done is install a few 3rd party apps and use the google launcher apk as my everyday launcher. Eventually because it keep restarting so often I thought I would try to put cyanogenmod on it using the installer app.Unfortunately it kept saying it couldn't communicate with my device and had to abandon that option. A few hours later the phone restarted again but this time became stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 logo on start up. I tried to another factory reset hoping that would fix it but this is what happened
View attachment 2714455
The whole thing is in red and keeps saying error and fail.
I have no idea what the issue being a noob, but started looking through forums and posts hoping to get an answer. I thought trying to reload the stock rom might be my best bet and started looking into how to unbrick the phone on youtube and forums.
I downloaded Odin and tried [ROM][ODIN]SPH-L900 MK4 (MK4 Modem/Kernel/Bootloader/ROM - Full Restore - Unrooted), Galaxynote2root.com, and QBking77 methods and files for putting factory stock rom back on the phone. I spent all day trying each one only to get "nand write start fail" when trying each tar file on odin.
I wanted to see if someone might actually be able to explain to me the exact issue and hopefully a possible solution.

Not sure what the issue is, but if your not rooted you can not use method you tried.. If you can get back into your phone, root it using the toolkit found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155 it will install a custom recovery for you during the process. once done you can us the restore method you tried.. You might want to also, uninstall all the apps you have installed one at a time, until you find the one, that might be given you the problem..

Thanks for replying, unfortunately I'm not able to get into my phone as it is just stuck on the Galaxy note 2 logo image on start up. Someone on the google+ community said that it could of happened from the 4.1 to 4.3 update. I guess my best bet is to go to the Samsung kios at Best Buy and see if they can reflash my phone. If I do get it up and running I will install a custom recovery like you mentioned.
Can you reboot and hold the power, home button, & up arrow to get into download mode?
If you can, flash things from there. Odin. I would do the billiard back to stock. Or possibly try the philz recovery.
Please let us know what happens.

This is the best I can do with what I have to show you the process. I'm using this download SPH-L900_MK4_Full Restore_UNROOTED one click process as an example. It happens when I use the regular versions of oden and add the tar. files where it says PDA. I have used several versions like Sammobile that people have recommended, but In the end it always says Fail
I tried using the billiard one but since it's set up for twrp I'm not sure how to istall it with odin on the PC
I don't know. I'm just guessing. I'm not an expert. Post in the billiards forum.
I guess i would go to my "prepatory" thread and try flashing a new recovery. I guess try TWRP first. Then try the billiard back to stock. If still no. Try philz and then back to stock. I can't promise anything, but that is my advice.

That is a very old version of Odin I might add. Download and use Odin 3.07. When using make sure you right click and choose run as administrator. Flash philz 6.0.7.9 do a full wipe reboot into recovery then flash billards return to full stock with counter reset, you should not have any issues..
Hey. If i knew the answer i would tell you. Lol. I'm sorry that i don't. But you need to get something going through odin. Something is messed up on your phone and you need to replace it with something works. If you can't get Anything to flash from odin.... Well i can't imagine what else there would be to do. Except take it in for a replacement.
Sorry to hear this. I remember bricking my phone and was really scared as I did not want to go to the sprint store and go through all that nonsense. I hope you get it up and running. I know someone in this awesome community will help u out.
Wish I could help.
What version of odin are you using?
Let's see if this helps.
First download this Toolkit. It's an awesome tool. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155
(you will need to read those instructions for drivers install etc)
There really should be no reason why you can't simply reboot your phone into download mode and flash it back to stock. Just make sure you enable usb debugging mode within developer options BEFOREyou begin.
If you want a custom ROM right away, use the toolkit to root and install custom bootloader and recovery, then flash the ROM from recovery per usual.
From that point you can either flash a stock unrooted MK4 ROM or a stock rooted ROM or you can go with a custom rooted ROM. You will need to decide what you want right now.
If you want to stay on a stock unrooted MK4 ROM then you can go ahead and download this stock MC2 with flash count reset. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 then once that completes you can simply let the OTA update your phone to MK4 and that will put you back at stock MK4.
You can also just flash the stock MK4 ROM via this page. Follow the instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591898
About once a week, not really sure on the frequency, (if I notice the popup) it says it rebooting the phone with two toggles on the bottom of the box. (box and lettering all in black and white) Your choice on the toggles is reboot or later. Today I push later and it it popped up twice more. But on the third time, there was not toggles and was doing a count down for reboot.
Anyway, before it rebooted, I pulled down the notifications and and found the notification and did a long press on it and then went into info. I then it looked like I was in settings with two choices there. (when on this settings, there was not back button to see were I was at in settings) To block notifications with on or off and the other doing something with quite mode. I turn off notifications and minimized the box. After it rebooted, the box was still minimized until wanted to bring it back up in the screen, it disappears. Anyone know what this is??? or know how to figure out what's doing it?
Stock Sprint Note 4 running 5.1.1 software Ok1 with hotspot hack (why I'm not running current software)
Open root browser and see if you have this folder: /carrier/ItsOn
If so, you may also have this file in dalvik (i think that's the proper location for Lollipop but you could search keyword itson) : /data/dalvik-cache/carrier @itson@[email protected]@classes.dex
If your ROM is fully stock, you may have another folder at /system/vendor/ItsOn. If so, look inside that folder for resource zip. Extract that zip and look in the folder and file install locations then browse to those in your phone's folders and delete all that correspond to that mapping.
If you have those, delete all you find and reboot. Hopefully that cures the random reboots.
If this applies, ItsOn has a bootstrapper that tries to install itself. If you have a custom kernel, it cannot complete this process but will try repeatedly to complete that failed setup process, prompting you continually reboot. If you were to factory reset, the prompts would most likely be more persistent.
If you flash a stock tar, then flash custom ROM and don't wipe internal memory, ItsOn remains unless developer has a script in place to remove that from root of your carrier folder.

Thanks for the info. Phone is not rooted, bone stock with the exception of the hotspot hack.
Only thing I found using File Viewer under Root (/) folder /system/vender/Itson. And it shows nothing is in there and one year old.
I believe all this started when I upgrade Lollipop about one year ago. Was rooted at the time and wanted the newer android. Then I found out I did not need to root to get the hotspot working.

OK. Check ItsOn status next. Goto /data/local/tmp and look for ItsOn log. It shouldn't get added on boot if you've removed it but last successful bootstrapper log will be present, unless deleted.
FWIW, I don't have random reboots on rooted phone. When I had them, ItsOn was the culprit. I usually clean install, wiping internal memory before and after stock tar but didn't coming from Lollipop.
What I noticed was that ItsOn showed in hidden menu ##data# as NetworkSystemProvider. See before and after wiping internal memory screenshots. I suspect this carried over from Lollipop. Perhaps yours did too?

I could not find /data/local/tmp and look for ItsOn log, but I did get into data and the NetworkSystemProvider is there. Got into in and hit button for more settings and little window say "intent sent."
Also under more settings it says two things,
Module 1 is insmoded
Module 2 is insmoded
And at the top, it has a green icon for on button and a blacken icon for the off button. It will not let me do crap there.
Since it's stock, I have done nothing to it. Can't remember how I did the update. My guess since it was rooted, I had to flash OK1 myself but I don't see my stock download from Samsung. I have major memory issues, way more than I should at my age and I have no idea on how I did things......LOL And not even sure what Itson is, only thing I found with quick search a sprint software to add software and updates easily. That would explain the random downloads and install I did not do.
So now what, I need to root my phone to make this go away? Oh, and thanks again for your help. Don't go out or your way to dig further. I'm wanting to upgrade to MM but don't know much about it (rootable or hotspot wise).
The way I got rid of it was to wipe data and internal memory, flash marshmallow stock tar and wipe both again and flash a ROM that has it removed. Dunno but maybe it works the same way with a TWRP backup if you prefer stock with hotspot only?
I can't confirm there's another method or if that's your problem. But my random reboots are gone. FWIW, my log was inactive but had an existing log that dated months back. I only had a few random reboots until I did a factory reset to see if that would help. Once I did that, the reboots were much more frequent. Some boots were resulting in immediate request to reboot again. I had to do something at that point.
I couldn't tell you if updating to marshmallow makes it better but you could still could go back to Lollipop if it didn't.
I dunno if you need to root to make it go away but I can tell you there is hotspot mods for marshmallow. You can go back to Lollipop if you don't like marshmallow.

Thanks again, guess I'll give marshmallow a try here real soon. Maybe even try a custom rom, never played with any of those. But I getting to where I'll have to do something soon. I feel it's picking up the pace. Then again, new Notes will be coming out soon. We'll see what Samsung brings us. Thanks again.

I've had this happen before and the only way I was able to get rid of it was to flash a completely stock tar and let the device provision itself thru initial setup. Others have had luck with the removal of ItsOn, but this has happened on ROMS where ItsOn wasn't even present.

Thanks, I do just that when I decide where to go from here.
