Clearing cache in stock recovery.... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

When I clear system cache in stock recovery, it seems to clean it, the I get 'ERROR!', then it reboots. Is this normal?
Thank you.

this was happening to mine..then I Odin flashed the official firmware and it didn't give me the error anymore..something tells me its not normal

Hmmmm.....I did Odin back stock last night.

Anyone else have this that is stock not rooted?

So I went to a T-Mo store to check out theirs. I booted in to recovery, and wiped cache. It said 'ERASE' for a few moments, followed by 'ERROR!', then it rebooted. Exactly like mine. So I guess its all good.

Can I get more info, like which rom did you flash, and how did you root your phone, what process did you take? Did you do wipes prior to flashing. Thanks, will try to help you out.
Go back into recovery and flash your backup or use Odin to flash a stock rom, your just in a bootloop. You mustve flashed a bad download.

Seanster_GBaxe EX v1.4.1:Taste of ICS is the rom... pretty much used odin to install cwm base recovery 5.0.2.6 I dont think i wipe prior to flashing. Once I installed the rom it booted fine but everything was slow and my phone kept getting errors, so then i went back in cwm and wiped all the data, now when i try to install the rom again it just takes like 5 seconds to install, i reboot the phone but it keeps going into a loop.... at this point i am pretty lost. I am new to this stuff... :/
How do i download this rom/kernel/mod........
Oh thats right its in the wrong section ah thats it no wonder i couldnt figure it out (sarcasm)

On a more helpful note just wipe and reflash another rom or a backup if you have it, if that fails odin to the stock rooted rom.

Did you goninto recovery and wipe cache dalvik and permissions. Or even better just factory reset after installing stock rom. Odin to stock doesnt faxtory reset your phone. Old files could still be lingering in there.

i did that and the same thing is happening, this blows
Try redownloading the rom, then in recovery make sure you are A. Wipe Factory Data Reset, B. Wipe Cache, C. Advanced Menu Wipe Dalvik D. Advanced Menu Wipe Battery Stats, E. Mounts/Storage Format Cache, System, Boot, Emmc, Then flash the Rom.
Silly question but are you installing 1.4 before flashing 1.4.1? Cause I think that ROM needs the 1.4 full flashed prior to flashing 1.4.1.

can you give me a link to a stock ROM? the one i am using is SGH-T989-Stock-UVKID
so then I do what you just told me
A. Wipe Factory Data Reset, B. Wipe Cache, C. Advanced Menu Wipe Dalvik D. Advanced Menu Wipe Battery Stats, E. Mounts/Storage Format Cache, System, Boot, Emmc,
Then flash the Rom - Go into Odin and Select the file(click pda), then click start - correct?
Follow this to get to stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462870
if phone isnt stock and you still have files there then do factory reset from phone or stock recovery.

Random Boot Loops?

I've had my phone for quite some time now and i've done a lot of flashing and stuff until recently i encountered a problem so i did a complete wipe and went back to stock (Stock Modem, ROM, etc). It's been working fine for about a day or so and now all of a sudden i had a random Boot Loop.No biggie. Went into CMW (After i went stock i re-rooted my phone) and wiped the Cache. Working fine again booted up normally.. Then about 15 minutes later it does it again! Why is this?Permanent fix please ?
Ok.The fix i had earlier was working fine for quite some times and I had to do a cache wipe every now and then since it was just drop into a Boot Loop randomly. But now(Today) I had to do a cache wipe AND Darkside Cache wipe at least 7 times(4 times within about 2 hours).A permanent fix for this? Will i have to use Odin to do another Stock fix and then re-root?
Use darkside cache wipe instead. It's in the dev section.

I could have sworn i did that as well.Guess i must have pressed a button and cancelled it by mistake. Doing it over. Thanks .
I suggest you use ODIN and flash to stock and start over on a clean slate. After that, simply root and go about your normal flashing.

[Q] Need Help Restoring Phone

Hello,
My friend has a galaxy s2 and recently his son somehow managed to get a virus on it. I have a lot of experience with rooting, flashing, and all that fun stuff. Especially with the t mobile galaxy s2 since I have one as well. He asked me If I can restore his phone back to a new rom since it was acting weird. For example, if he saves a new contact or installs or uninstalls an app, if he reboots all those changes are gone. It is as if the phone keeps rebooting to a certain time. I am guessing a virus is causing this.
So the first I thought of was to download a rom (Jedi Knight 6) and did the typical wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache/dalvik, then flashed the rom with success. When I rebooted the phone, it was still the same, as if I did nothing in the recovery. I thought it may have been because I was CWM, so I installed goo manager and flashed the TWRP recovery through there. It gave me success but when I boot to recovery, it is still CWM. At this point I decided to use ODIN to restore it to the original stock rom. I followed the instructions here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858435. First time I got a fail on ODIN, removed the battery and tried again and it gave me pass and the phone rebooted. When it did guess what? It was as if I did nothing.
I ran out of ideas. I did everything I can think of. I used the custom recovery to try to wipe everything and flash a new fresh rom but that failed. I even tried ODIN to restore it to stock but that failed as well. Is there anything else I can try? I did a lot of research but couldn't find anything, maybe someone can give me some tips?? Thank You in Advance!!
Can someone please help me?
This sounds very strange. You said even after you Odin back to stock it reverted back to what he had before you reinstall the stock ROM ? Was the phone rooted before you tried to help him?
Did you try an aosp ROM?

Yea I know its strange, and its not like I have no experience with these things. I was very suprised when that happened. Yes it was and is still rooted, Im sure because super su is on it. He is currently running JediMindTrick (ROM by ptmr3). I still dont know what to do. I will try an aosp rom, but if odin didnt do it I doubt another rom would lol.

Try wiping cache and dalvik. Then format system, data, cache using cwm. Factory reset then flash new rom using cwm or odin.

Phone Dead, Bad Night, Help Wanted

I flashed TWRP 2.5 and then flashed Task's AOKP 4/9 ROM and everything went down hill from there. The phone kept rebooting after a minute or so, so I did a factory reset and reflashed the ROM. That didn't help, it actually made it worse in that it would not get past the kernel splash screen. So I did another wipe and the same thing. I wiped again and flashed an older version of AOKP 4/5 and again would only get to the kernel splash. After another hour or so I decided I'll just go back to rooted stock, so using Odin 3 3.07 I flashed my trusted root69.stock_ATT_I747UCALG1 image and now it just stays on the Samsung screen.
I've run out of thoughts on what the hell is the problem and thought I'd ask.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get this paper weight working again?

Same thing happened to me. Boot loop with 4/9 AOKP task so I Odin to the same file as you but that ran just fine. I would try to Odin again.
Oh and after stock with root I flashed 4/9 and all was good. By chance did you have custom boot animation?

I think it's the custom boot causing this issue. Anyway good luck. I know my heart skipped a beat when my phone would boot loop while to get into recovery. Once I Odined back to stock with root first/only thing I downloaded was goomanager and installed TWRP then flashed 4/9.

I'm back up and running again. A little embarrassed I forgot the factory reset last night.
Thanks for the reminder!
AOKP is a great ROM.
When flashing ROMs always follow these steps and you will be fine.
1- nandroid backup
2- format system
3- wipe cache
4- wipe Dalvik
5- factory reset.
Most suggest doing each 3 times.
6- install ROM and reboot
7- flash gapps
Let sit for 10 minutes.
Follow those instructions and everything will be fine.

GS3 Reboots In Clockworkmod

running PAC ROM for the last few months, very few issues. yesterday, phone randomly reboots & stays in bootloop. I manually reboot into recovery, do a clean wipe & re-flash ROM. phone works fine until i try to restore apps/data via Titanium, the phone goes back into bootloop. figured i possibly waited too soon to restore my phone, so i held out until this morning. go to run Titanium & phone bootloops again. but this time when i reboot into recovery & try to do a factory reset, the phone reboots as soon as i select "Yes" & goes back into bootloop. Google produced nothing, help!!!! Thanks.
Reflash rom and try to determine which app youre restoring that may be causing the problem. Do you let apps auto update? Do you have backups set to rerun on a schedule?
You could also odin flash the official firmware and start over that way.

thanks for your response! I believe I found the culprint; a theme I downloaded yesterday. I was able to wipe everything except data & reboot, which caused the phone to "optomize" all of my apps. So far so good, but I'm not so sure if this is a temporary or permanent fix.
I dont auto update anything on my phone. Should I?
EDIT: spoke too soon, phone worked for about 2 hours & went into bootloop while idle. froze while deleting dalvik cache but rebooted & is back "optomizing apps". Looks like I may have to odin flash.

Dont auto update, I was just asking because if you did, it could point to a recently updated app as the problem.
It does sound to me like odin is your best option though.

Wow armond, the EXACT same thing happened to be while running Illusion. I couldn't factory reset in recovery, b/c that led to a bootloop when i pressed "yes". I wiped, cache/dalvik and phone worked for a little, had a hot reboot, and bootlooped again. By any chance are you running Ktoonsez kt747 kernel? And i eventually got it fixed thanks to Doc through ODIN. Best of luck!
