[Q] samsung gn2 macksrom mobile networks prob - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a sprint samsung galaxy note 2 that is rooted running macksrom 5.0 and i started having this problem. the problem is i can call from my phone when it is not on wifi but the 3g/4g isnt showing up top in the status bar i cant access the internet unless im on wifi. when i go into settings and click on mobile networks it acts like it is going to do it then it hangs at a black screen and a box pops up and says unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped ive tried cleaning caches and fixing permissions, nothing helps, there is also another thing that pops up and says error #89 unknown error can you please help me (edit... it also says when i click on stuff, use touchwiz or xperia to perform this action. Always or just once.)

Are you on custom rom?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

Im not sure if i know what you mean
Im rooted and everytime i reboot my phone it says macksrom powered by mackentosh

Did you install the macksrom or did you simply root and leave the Samsung touchwiz ROM on it?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2

I bought this samsung gn 2 from my brother in law everything was already done to it. I think he installed the macks rom and he must have left the the touchwiz on it. Because it keeps asking me when i do things perform action using touchwiz or xperia

I also just noticed that i have goomanager on it. Can i use the gooman to reflash this phone? If so can someone give me very detailed instructions on how to do this?? LOL im not the sharpest tool in the shed, but i think i can do this. Oh i also read something about odin. Which one would be the easiest to use?

[Q] new to flashing

I have only recently started flashing custom ROMs to my E4GT, simply because I got tired of waiting on Sprint to bring ICS to me. XDA has been a wonderful place for me to learn and have enjoyed trying different ROMs thus far. I noticed today that my Mobile Odin is no longer working, in fact all I get is "unfortunately Mobile Odin has stopped" followed by "unfortunately market has stopped". I am wondering if this is due to ROMs I have flashed, and if there is a fix, but mostly am wanting to say a HUGE thank you to all of the devs and fellow members that have unknowingly guided me this far
I don't know if they're both related but remove and readd your google account to the phone and see it that helps. This may resolve the market issue.
Edit: The error may be initialized by mobile odin checking for an update.

Sim toolkit not working after rooting?

I am not completely sure wheter this happeneing after changing my mobile call and data plan or after rooting but I think it happened after rooting. Namely, the sim toolkit previously worked and I could access data on how much I had spent etc...now it doesn't. Is this common and is there a fix other than flading custom roms etc...I quite like the phone the way it is. Thanks all!
Try rebooting without sim card and then rebooting with it.

Nah I require root. I guess it is a sacrifice I have to make to have root. I don't understand though... I thought it could be because of Root call blocker as well but I disabled it and no change...
You can reroot lol

That doesn't make much sense to me, I already have stock rom rooted?
If this helps, I checked my applications and this application is supposed to be 0,00 B in size. I don't want to mess around if there is a chance I brick my phone. I will be the first to admit I am not too good with all this. Rooting was about top of my ability. So if anyone can help a damsel in distress out with a simple solution, I will be grateful.
I found stk.apk in system/app/ with root explorer, what will happen if I click instal?
Does this make any sense to anyone? I did do OTA update just before I rooted: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34909
Try installing it

The issue resolved itself when I removed GoLauncher. Don't know why. For now it is OK.
The issue returns itself. It turns out it fixes itself if I put the phone in airplane mode, restart it, then after it restarts, turn off the airplane mode (which requires sim code then). OK so I know what to do now, but it is slightly annoying that this keeps happening. Basically it happpens after every reboot if the phone is not rebooted from airplane mode. Any ideas?

[Q] Help my Note 2 GT N7100 - Rooted

Ok guys and gals, this is the deal, i rooted my Note 2 GT-N7100 via Odin around 2 weeks ago, no issue, good stuff, infact the only reason i rooted was for Avast firewall and anti-theft options that come with avast as this was very useful with my last pnone, nexus...
anyhow it seened in the mean-time i was the last to recieve android 4.1.2 here in the uk, now im not useully impatiant, but curiosity got me and so via odin installed 4.1.2, though this was fine onece done it started up with the three logo, the network my sim is on, but the pnone was stock to all networks, so i believe.
A few days later still all is good, i was playing around with some apps such as Go launcher and others as Coldfustions android 3d ui tutorial had suggested on you tube, still no problems, just a little laggy, so i deleted caches as thought this my hep from the recent flash to 4.1.2 a week or so ago, well thats when things whent bad, very bad, cache deleted and pnone switched off and never came back on, just a red light next to the front facing camra, now, my pnone was clearly rooted with custom binary dowload @ 2, but strangly the system status kept switching to official to custom, looks bad right, what should i do...? many thanks ahead...:good:
Sds issue.
Can you tell the exact name of the file you flashed ?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Sad to know that.... but have you try to boot it into recovery or download mode? Try to do it fast after you plug in your battery. It might work... Do let us know the update. Thanks
Update...
...Well i took it into the city to a local phone tech who will forward it to a samsung tech who doesn't mind a rooted phone, will cost £20 and said 100% fix:laugh: He suggested that it could be related to the s3 problems and had seen a rise in Feb in this strange activity will be around a week. I haven't tried the battery in/out as suggested, will consider in the future.
The file was from sammobile/hotfile (N7100XXDLL4_N7100H3GDLL2_N7100NEDLK1_HOME.tar.md5) will keep you all posted... thanks:good:
Kk you flashed a sds bugged rom .
You should have clarified if it could be booted or not.
Anyways I just wanted to clarify that this didn't happen due to rooting.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
...Once flashed to 4.1.2 it ran about a week, then when cleared caches it died? So to clarify it was a bugged rom or the actual flash/download that was the problem?... infact I remember in odin on pc the usb cable connection icon should be green for good to go, it was yellow as I could not find the solution as to why and still went ahead and flashed, ran like around a week and then died, maybe it was that, im still learning, a hard lessen to learn... im hoping ill get it back by the end of the week still in one piece...
Can you tell the whole name of the file you flashed?

All the information I could get is on this page with all the w's ...sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-N7100&pcode=H3G#firmware[/url]) Its the 4.1.2 N7100XXDLL4_N7100H3GDLL2_H3G.zip im not to sure if thats what you want, if not could you point me in the right direction... many thanks...
Yeah it is 4.1.2 but does not contain sds patches.

Note 2 has no GPS signal?

Hi all,
I just bought a slightly used Note 2 yesterday. Today, I tested the GPS and put it side by side
with a Galaxy S2 and my old gs2 picked up the GPS just fine, but the Note 2 did not even pick
up a single satellite even after 30 minutes. The GS2 picked up all satellites in 30 seconds sitting
right next to it.
I turned on GPS and use wifi/network location too.
This is a stock unrooted Note 2 running 4.1.2 stock OS.
Is there anything else I can do and try? I'm desperate. I searched and read all the posts on google and here
and found no solution.
Thank you
-mike-
I had the same problem the other day. I had to use odin to go back to an earlier stock version. The latest stock version did not fix it. Everything works great now.

Mine was unrooted and running stock 4.1.2. Are you saying that the problem is in the stock OS?
Is this a common problem? Which stock version I need to go back to?
Thank you.
No not a problem with stock. If you haven't flashed anything to your phone then I highly doubt its a software conflict. I've read on some Samsung phones the small screws on the back of the phone become loose causing no gps signal. You could try tightening them to see if that helps. My gps failed because I flashed a Verizon note 2 rom that I've used in the past but the newest version doesn't seem to play well. The stock version I flashed was from January. You can find all the stock roms in the development section here.

I tried the screws and they were all tight. I guess I will have to try different rom...
My GPS couldn't even find a single satellite sitting outdoor...
I would flash back to an earlier stock version and then update to the latest version and see if that fixes it. Just backup your data/apps/pictures first because you'll lose everything on your internal storage when you flash a stock rom with odin.

Thanks! I guess I can just use Odin to flash it as I don't have custom recovery?
Then, what do you do? What version did you flash on top of it?
I flashed tweaked rom. You could just take an ota update to get back to the latest stock version or flash with odin.

Had the same issue and tried all the previous suggestions .I didn't even have the indicator in the status bar. What worked for me was this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2 let me know if it helps
From the D's GN2
Thanks. I already tried it before I posted and it did not help at all. Mine did not show the gps indicator on the status bar either.

What did you do with the app to make yours worked?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 4
I turned the GPs on while the app was open and saw the Gps indicator light up then I immediately opened maps and let it lock on my location I guess in my case it just kicked the gps in the pants I haven't had any problems since.
From the D's GN2
Did the gps test app show the number of satellites it locked on? Google map may not be a good indication because it uses wifi/data to locate you if it couldn't find satellite. Try something like 'GPS Test' to verify the number of satellite it locked on.

- just to make sure nothing else conflicts, I did a factory reset. It's running stock JB 4.1.2. Unrooted. Stock recovery.
- when I turned on GPS in setting and started google map, the GPS icon on the status bar did not even display
and of course google map could not get a fix on my location. This is outdoor. To be sure that my test location was good, I put my wife's Galaxy S2 next to it and turn on both. The S2 acquired position under 30 seconds with 14 satellites.
- i d/l GPS Test and it did not show any satellite
- I d/l GPS Status Toolbox and it did not fix it
- I d/l "TopNTP" to clear/download AGPS data and it did not fix it.
- I then sent it back to Samsung. The repair log said:
"problem found: cannot download sw/PRL. Solution: updated s/w. Reset. Quality Control passed. "
(when I saw 'cannot download sw/PRL', I googled it and I already suspected that it wouldn't be fixed. As most people
I found on google when they sent a phone back to Samsung all have this line "cannot download sw/PRL')
I got it back after 7 days and it was exactly as before I sent it out. Same firmware version, same OS version, same everything. True enough, same problem. How competent can they be? I stated that the problem is "GPS could not acquire satellite". How hard was it to test it? Just turn it on, turn on GPS in settings, run google map. Their quality control couldn't even do that and signed it off.
I called them again and I'm sending it back again. This is getting frustrated.
I still have the gut feeling that this is not a hardware problem, but what else I can try? I tried everything.
What are my options if they still can't fix it 2nd time? It's still under warranty (for another month).
Thanks.

I used this method to fix my GPS not locking. Take a look. It solved my problem but may not be for everyone.

Thanks! I will sure give it a try if it still does work when I get it back. It's now at Samsung repair center again.
I appreciate your reply.
Problem solved!!!!!!
I have a Note 2. The GPS did not work. No white circle on the status bar when GPS is turned on and it did not pick up any satellite. I tried everything including factory reset, restore OEM ROM from sammobile and nothing worked. I sent it back to samsung. The 1st time they updated some sw and sent it back to me. Nothing changed. Not working. I sent it back the 2nd time. they replaced some power management chips. I got it this morning and it did not work either. I called Samsung again and they remotely accessed my Note 2 and they couldn't figure out so they asked me to send it back the 3rd time. Before I sent it back, I followed a reply here on xda using the diagnostic code *#197328640# :
mainmenu>UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD>Restore NV Default
I selected it, it restored the NV from default and it rebooted by itself. When it came back, everything worked!!!!!
Before I tried this, I was l already on the phone with Samsung tech support for 2 hours and they even remotely access my Note 2 and they could not figure it out!!!

[Q] easy root method s4 mini

after multiple attempts using the odin method I found an easy root. my phone is rooted but I dont have a custom recovery. While this really doesn't concern me much, my problem is wifi tethering. my previous phone was an HTC thunderbolt on Verizon. my new s4 is sprint. I never had problems with rooting my htc or my wifes razor. I'm not completely green to the world of roms. WiFi tether from the Google play store is what I used on both and I was intending to use this as well for my mini. is their another app I should be using? or is it simply a settings issue? I have read another thread about tethering issues, but that was for the odin method with cm. I followed the directions precisely with the odin method, but it doesn't seem to recognize my phone when I get ready to use odin. it goes to the warning screen, I plug it in, go to next screen. odin says all threads complete (succeed0/failed0) it says this if I try to run it without the phone plugged in as well. this is why I went with the easy root method. I even tried to change the settings in wifi tether. but the only profile it had was for a standard s4. this profile did not work and auto detect seems to fail too. I get a wifi tether started with errors check log. but no log file is saved. I'm pulling my hair out. both me and my wifr need to be able to tether. any help would be greatly appreciated.
No need for an app, look at the screenshots... They're from a full blown S4, but my S3 Mini was the same, so I'm guessing the S4 Mini should be too...
