Hey guys,
So im having trouble flashing cm 10.1 or any other rom on my samsung galaxy s3 i747m (rogers)
i have read all the other forums but still cant figure out my problem. i rooted my phone a few days ago and everything worked perfectly, i started out with cwm recovery and i kept getting error 7... when trying to flash cm 10.1 nightly.
i thought at first maybe i have the wrong file but im pretty sure its not the case.
i then updated Supersu, that didnt solve my problem either.
then i deleter cwm recovery and installed twrp with goo manager (latest version)
and now i get failiure to install....
im sure i am going through the right process as i have watched many videos and read the forums
ex: backup/ wipe cache/ wipe dalvik cache/ factory reset/ then install rom / and gapps
gapps works but i am never able to install the cyanogenmod nightly always says failiure to install..
Please help!
This is a bootloader issue. Please check out and carefully look over the information provided at the top of post #2 of the link in my signature.
thanks
Thanks a lot, i got the bootloader file. however when i use ondin, should i load it with PDA or Bootloader?

What fail message are you getting? What version of recovery are you running?

super su version: 1.27:supersu
bootloader: i747mvldlk4
goo.im version: 2.1.2
installed twrp directly from goo.im yesterday.
phone is samsung galaxy s3 version sgh 1747m
android version: 4.1.1
kernel version: 3.0.31-538866
The fail message on twrp comes out maybe 2 seconds after i run cm 10.1 zip.
Just says failiure to install
then i get the option to delete cache and dalvik cache which i had already dont prior to install.
do i also need to format data? it says it completely deletes everything from my phone... im worried it wipes my backup and i have nothing to go back to.
thanks

You don't have to delete data I always do to get rid of clutter
It won't wipe your sd card (that option is in advanced wipe). You should always move your backups and important stuff to your sd.

Get the latest version of your recovery (CWM or TWRP). If you still get it, make sure you have the up-to-date bootloaders.
TWRP = GooManager
CWM = ROM Manager

If on cwm
Yay for twrp!
same problem
looks like I am having the same problem. I have been running liquid smooth since RC5 and my latest is the 4.2.2 version rom 2.3.
this problem began with attempting to flash the 2.4 version and persists with the 2.7 and 2.8.
so please talk me through the latest CWM and is this something I need to flash with odin?
thank you.
Hummm I installed TWRP . but get the same thing when trying a rom.
Note to others switching to TWRP from CWM don't foget to do a backup before doing anything in TWRP, since the CMW backups you had before won't show up in it....
UPDATE: It worked ! Was able to instal new CWM with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170635 and ROM installed flawlessly after, WOohoo
So I just an hour ago booted my phone and used FreeGee to unlock the bootloader and install ClockworkRecovery. I factory reset, cleared the cache and the Dalvik cache, and flashed the latest stable Cyanogenmod no problem. Ever since then, however, my phone will only boot into Clockwork, and not a single thing I do is helping. Is there anyone here who can help me with this?

I'm on Philz too but not the updated one. That one seems to be having problems. I also see Esimon311 helped you out. Did that work? If not try using the first version of Philz recovery assuming you already had a lokied version of CWM running before this happened. It can be found in the General Section. The information I posted before was for ADB commands. I would not suggest that if you are not familiar with ADB.

Currently running on AOKP OTA ver. 3.2
I would like to have someone who can guide me slowly step by step carefuly to whatever better option there is.
I been having lots of troubleshooting with phone not responding how it should and I have to keep rebooting to often.
I appreciate your help.
Thank you
Since you're running a custom rom, you could update your recovery to the latest CWM or TWRP and flash a different or updated rom.
Could you help me to do that?
Just guide me step by step.
Ok I already did a backup.
What custom recovery are you running? The first thing would be to get the latest img for your custom recovery and install it.
How did you root and install a custom recovery on your phone?
I am running AOKP OTA Ver. 3.2
That time I did it following a step by step guide with someone who was guiding me.
Hmm what else would you like to know?
That's the OS. What program did you use to backup your rom?

Oh…sure sure.
One I use is Team Win Recovery Project v2.4.1.0
You should update to the latest TWRP from here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/104
You can flash it using Odin. Make a full backup using the new TWRP. Find a rom you want to try, save it to the phone, and flash it using the ypdated TWRP. Don't forget to wipe the phone before changing ROMs.

Ok So I delete the older TWRP get the new one.
Then back and wipe which of all the options?
And of course if I was using AOKP which I really liked, what will your recommend me?
Installing the latest version of TWRP will overwrite the version on your phone.
Install the newest version of TWRP, create a backup of your rom using the new version of TWRP, find a rom you like, copy the ROM to your phone, boot into TWRP, wipe cache, dalvik, data, flash the ROM, reboot.

You can download it directly to your computer and use Windows Explorer to copy it to a microSD card or directly to your phone. It's probably quicker to download a few to your computer and transfer them all at once so you can try different ones.
Have fun flashing ROMs.

Ok as I extract the rom to my external sd card of my phone it's asking me many permissions such as:
"Do you want to copy Cesium.ogg to your device?
Your device might not be able play or view this file."
I said yes to skip all of the next warnings because every time i hit yes comes another warning.
Also strangely the rom took forever to download and the extraction is also taking way to long.
I didn't had to go through so much stuff by that time I downloaded AOKP rom. :/
Still extracting as I update this post... Something is not right...
I will have to cancel this.
It's stuck.
Do not extract the files. Just flash the zip.

Ah, to late I'm currently trying to find the right download link for Slim Bean rom.
Mind if you help me here?
My device is an I747.
UPDATE:
I believe is this one?
http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/d...o/6801-slim-d2att-4-3-build-2-2-official-1738
UPDATE!!
Yup it's done.
Thank you very much for your patience.
Quick question.
How do I restore all my phone data such as my contacts numbers and messages from the back up I did with the other rom?
Do I just restore the last backup and it should recognize the new rom?
UPDATE!
So it went back to where it was of course.
How should I back it all up and restore in the new rom?
Looks right. I have an i747m, not the i747.
So I'm currently running Cyanogenmod version 10.2.0 .. Android 4.3.1.
I've updated to the newest version of TWRP.
I factory wipe, then try to install a different ROM.. for example I've tried PA & AOKP.
Every time I try this it fails within 1 second and I have to restore a backup and go back to Cyanogenmod.
EDIT: I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S3
I have attached an image of when I get an error when I try to flash.
UPDATE:
Alright so I was able to get past that error by going into advanced wipe and selecting "System". Now when I flash I get a new error. I am attaching a new picture.

Update your recovery. You're using TWRP 2.5.5.0 when the latest one is 2.6.3.1. If you can't boot into Android, Odin the TWRP recovery. Also, make sure you completely wipe your internal storage before flashing a custom ROM. If that custom ROM isn't working for you, try another one to see if that flashes since that would indicate that the custom ROM you're trying to flash could potentially be a bad download.
You also need to post more information about your phone.
Which custom ROM are you using?
Which kernel are you using or trying to use?
etc etc.

I've tried flashing multiple ROMS.. Slimbeam.. AOKP.. ParanoidAndroid.. I've downloaded from GOOManager and I've also downloaded from external links and put on my external SD card. Nothing works. Like I said in the OP I am running Cyanogenmod 10.2.. Android 4.3.1. I'm using the Ktweaker kernel.
I updated my TWRP from Goomanager and it only updated to 2.5.5.0. How do I get it to update to 2.6.3.1?
So I just went to update TWRP from goomanager again and when it went to download it failed because "invaid MD5 sum".
Edit: So I tried updating again and it said it was successful. I rebooted into recovery and it still says 2.5.0.0
I'm lost.
Same problem happened to me last night, I tried to install the modem again but the same error keep coming up.
To everyone with issues updating recovery. Goo has a openrecovery script issue. Your best bet is to flash latest Recovery using Odin. You may choose to use Mobile Odin if you feel like it.
Can't restore anything except Kitkat
I keep getting the same error, except I can't flash or restore any rom that isn't kitkat (all the kitkat roms are buggy so i want 4.3 back). I reflashed twrp 2.6.3.1 with odin but its still not letting me flash anything.
Also if it helps I can't copy anything from the internal SD to the external SD using twrp file manager.
Older Rom's backups can't be restored due to file system changes. You will have to wipe everything and flash fresh if you want 4.3
I tried the latest version of TWRP, and I'm on StockROM by TeamInferno. I got V7 and I saw an update on it last night (V8) so I downloaded it and tried to install it fom Clockworkmod recovery and it didn't work so I tried TWRP and the same thing happened. Do I have to wipe everything to update my ROM?

Ive tried that multiple times. once the Odin flashable tw 4.3 downloads, I'm going to try that but I can't flash any fresh roms using twrp except 4.4 (Jellybam to be specific).
I tried Stockorama 4.3 tw, but it would just reboot after getting past the "samsung galaxy sIII" screen (tried insecure kernal too). I'm wondering if I'm in a weird soft brick or something

What is your TWRP Version ? Also what is your Bootloader version ? (No its not the baseband)
My bootloader is T999UVUEMJC
My baseband is uvuemjc
TWRP is version 2.6.3.1 (I've also tried 2.6.3.0)
I think it got updated bootloader/baseband when I odin flashed stock tw 4.3 (the only jellybean ROM that works)
I also made a backup of my 4.4, but it wouldn't let me restore even that.
You have been talking about 2 different things.
1. Flash a New Rom - Either Touchwiz or AOSP. $.3 or newer.
2. Restore a Rom - I think you are talking about a Nandroid Restore.
If you are referring to Point 1 as "Restore Rom" then you need to change terminology in order to help us understand your problem correctly. Re-Flashing a rom that you used to have is still Flashing not "Restore".
With that UVUEMJC Bootloader, you can completely forget about flashing previous Touchwiz Firmwares such as UVDMD5 or UVDLJC. If you tried them, you WILL brick your phone. If you tried Custom Touchwiz Roms based on those 2 firmwares, it may or may not work.
Now if you are trying to flash a AOSP Rom, either 4.3 or Kitkat 4.4, and you do have latest TWRP, (2.6.3.1), please specify the error message in detail.
You must do Factory Reset and Wipe Dalvik + Cache in the Recovery before flashing the AOSP Roms.
Here's the story:
I'm trying to install CyanogenMod on the AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-I747, which has the 4.4.2 NC6 touchwiz build on it.
Everything was going fine; I rooted with towelroot, I flashed a clockwork mod recovery. And I downloaded the latest CM build and placed it on an external sd card
When I booted into CWM and tried to install CM, it gave me an error, saying "can't install over incompatible data"
Okay...so I formatted dalvik cache, cache, and I factory reset and tried flashing again. It went a little further in the installation process, but still got an error.
Then, having made a nandroid backup before, I tried to restore the backup, which seemed to work...
Until I rebooted after restore was finished. Everything booted fine, until it got stuck on the AT&t spinning globe screen thing. Then, it just stayed there...
Is there a way to fix this?????? I tried reflashing stock in odin, but that failed (a giant red FAIL at the top). Then I realized that was because you can't downgrade from 4.4.2 to something like 4.1. So I looked for a 4.4.2 tar.md5 to flash in odin, but I couldn't find any.
Please help!
Thanks...

Where are the files located that you are trying to install?
My trouble came from my micro sd that was in my device. I tried everything and it kept giving me errors to the point that I couldn't even get into the twrp recovery and had to restore with Odin.
My solution was an external otg adaptor. As soon as I loaded cm and gapps from the otg everything went smoothly.
