LTE WENT LIVE IN NJ @ 7:19AM AND ITS CRAZY FAST. NYC SHOULD BE NEXT IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY WENT LIVE.
I WAS doing some coding on the new AIDE app and I lost service for a sec then LTE kicked in. I been on it all day.

That's equivalent to Verizon's LTE I was getting in New Brunswick, NJ. Out in East Brunswick I would occasionally get 50 mbps on Verizon's LTE and my ex would get the same on AT&T's LTE, now that's crazy fast but still this is pretty damn good. Apparently we have it here too in Mount Laurel, NJ because the other night just for the hell of it I switched the network mode to LTE/GSM/WCDMA when I was home in Vineland just to see if I could get it and was still on HSPA. I was wondering why my signal kept dropping out on my morning commute, I just looked now and it's because I'm connected to an LTE tower but there isn't an IP address. So they weren't bull****ting 2 weeks ago when the T-Mobile rep said that we'd have it soon in NJ, even though Verizon has been telling me for over a year that my city would be getting LTE "soon".
Looks like T-Mobile is on a roll...

Does the bar show LTE when in an LTE area or still indicates 4G?
(I'm in Linden NJ)
(Never mind .... found a photo in another thread with the answer)

I have attached a few screenshots. Anyone else seeing results like this?

Depends on where you live and how saturated your area is with 4G devices. When my area got it.... And I was testing before they made a official announcement I got 7-9mbps and sometimes 10+ mbps for a couple months. But eventually there were a lot of 4G devices coming online and Clearwire offers wimax 4G service for your home now..... Speed test show 3-5mbps.
Samsung Galaxy S II
Yeah these results are from Chicago.
I get about 8000 down and 1500 up but only in my neighborhood. Elsewhere it is like 3000 to 6000 mbps down
I get this types of speed at home and around the neighborhood but i get sh*t speed anywhere else.

I dont even have 4G service anywhere in Phoenix,az and im still paying for premium data. And dont tell me the BS that its for all smartphones, its for 4G xD
Im not a cellular network engineer but I have some experience with corporate wireless networks. We are in the midst of the holiday season and people are crowding around shopping areas, buying their first 4g device, and Verizon is still building out their LTE network. I wonder if towers are load balancing users based on increased density.
Increased 4g subscribers
A still growing network
Maybe Verizon is getting to a point where they need to play catch up.
Today I was in a shopping area where I'd normally get -75 db on LTE. I got -102. I drove across town where there were far fewer people and got -74db. I had no problem maintaining this signal strength inside our local Kroger.
Let me know your thoughts and remember its not fair to compare a CDMA signal strength to LTE signal strength. They are different broadcasts and frequencies. Since (as I believe to be true) LTE can hold more clients per tower Verizon may not have LTE on every tower in LTE coverage areas just yet. We are still in the deployment.
maybe it was -76 but you get the point.

I've had my S2 since last year November, and today was the first time I've ever seen the 3G icon on the status bar. Has that always been there on a stock rom!? I'm usually always on a 4g icon or Edge on a low signal area. I have never seen the 3G icon ever pop up on my phone

I wouldn't mind it too much. With T-Mobile, 3G and "4G" = same thing.
Exactly the same issue here. Its always Edge or 4g. Odd.

Its not a photo shop. In areas where AT&T has agreements and 3G only, T-Mo phones pick up on that. I have family that lives in one of these areas so.. he is right.. Its happened once to me, which that was the only area that I knew about that was a 3G-only area, every where else I go is yes either EDGE or 4G.
I rarely see edge on my phone 3g-4g all the time every once in a blue moon I see edge

Saturday night, was having a late dinner after a movie & was sitting near 35E/Hebron when I looked down at my phone & noticed "4G" around my signal bars. I immediately try to load some pages to see how it loads & was cool to see them load faster. I immediately downloaded the SpeedTest.Net app & gave her a whirl. All this compared to the 4G on my Evo in my signature:

Funny thing was, I was searching earlier in the day to find out when/if LTE would be active.
I posted the screenshot & my cousin immediately responds with an image of his own down in Rosenberg, TX (Southwest of Houston, I think Verizon though):
Verizon just lit up LTE at my home and work. The going isn't that great but damn its fast.

Not great for you, but good enough to do most tasks
Pressed from my BANNED unified search enabled Maguro
I can only pick up HSDPA where I live, are these speeds normal? They seem pretty low to me. The SUPER low ones are Edge. I really wish they would hurry up and finish their restructure.

I agree, I'll actually get complete service dropouts in Houston on my acro s.
Sean
The Xperia s is only 14.4mbps hsdpa
Its not a phone for downloading stuff
But you should probably get faster speeds
You need to get a 42mbps device imo.
Even 21mbps is kinda sucky depending on networks
But I'm not from the U.S
I think the average I get from a good carrier is around 3 -7mbps and on my HTC one xl I get 7 - 10 on average. Faster upto 15mbps in dc hspda area
Isn't it more compatible on AT&T networks? Or are you in an area where they upgraded the T-Mobile networks?

I'm in an upgraded area. Before all we had where I live is edge.
What's really weird is that when I went to florida I picked up 3g, but here in socal all I get is HSDPA. Does the network use different frequencies there or something?
Houston is the same, it on their new structure but not all over.
