Trick apps into thinking that you're connected to wifi - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Is the a app that can make apps think they are on wifi? Seeing how I'm always on the road with 4g access and unlimited data an no where near wifi. A few of my apps require wifi. I'm pretty sure there are other ppl interested as well. Any info would be thanked.

WiFi Tether Compatible with PS3

I've tried Barnacle, Sprint Hotspot & WiFi Tether. Sprint Hotspot keeps giving me an Error message. The other 2 can't be detected by my PS3 scans. I've tried with & without password encryption & made sure my SSID was visible. Any suggestions?

Ive had the same problems with wifi tether not being recognized. The hotspot hack does work though but without 4G its like waiting for paint to dry

Funny, this has popped up in the forums for every phone I have owned. Why would someone want to game through a high latency, inconsistant cellphone connection? Trying to play in the motorhome on vacation?
If Sprint Hotspot gives you issues, you'll need to flash THIS ...but that'll limit you to 3G. Does the PS3 work with AD-HOC connections (which is what wifi tether and barnacles app creates)? I'm guessing it doesn't by default since you can't see it.
Not gaming although I did play the Uncharted 3 Beta thru my Vibrant & it wasn't a problem. I just moved and have to wait for Comcast for like 2 weeks. Just want to watch some Netflix

I think what I read on Google says I need to be in Infrastructure mode or something. Idk... But the native wifi tether worked with my Vibrant so I can't imagine why it wouldn't work here.
Thanks for the help fellas. Happy Thanksgiving & all that

usb tethering to different devices

Is there any way to tether my data internet to a Xbox like I could do with a computer ?
Just looking for an easier way instead of using my computer as a modem an connecting it that way but that involves changing the proxy and server information on your computer and Xbox. I have manage to do it but don't really want to go through all of that sooooo. I was hoping somebody had a better way.
Here is a couple of videos.

If you are rooted just use wifi tether from the market. You could have looked here. FYI careful posting repeated threads. Try to search first. Some users will be on your ass. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802491

I tried and it work but it just wasn't consistent enough for me to play games and watch movies. Rebuff issues
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That is due to your data signal. Try to put the phone where you get a strong 4g signal and you will do just fine.

I will try a report back. But later it's 11:07 pm here in Columbus. So I gotta get some shut eye. I try when I get off in the afternoon. But thanks I will try your advice

Okay so after some more testing I could not get to work for more than a 20 min window. The best way in my opinion is to bridge the connection from a computer. That way I could watch a full length movie and play hours of need for speed. I just hate adjusting all the server and proxy settings that's all.

[Q] Connect to Ad Hoc Wifi Network?

Anyone know of any way to get the E4GT to connect to an ad hoc network?

Just set up your adhoc and connect. I did it last night.
It wasn't visible in my connection list even though it was running

It is possible that you set it to hidden... What OS are you using?

I confirmed that the network isn't hidden -- I can see it from other computers but not from my phone. Any ideas?

This is the best I can do for you.

Also, check your security settings. Some devices will not see a wireless network with security settings it can't support.
Rarely, because it's an international thing, channel settings can also prevent discovery. Just something to think about. Not that it should be an issue but may want to double check.

Thanks -- I mean I can get the network going, just can't discover it on the phone. No dice even when I set it security to open. Is this just not destined to happen?

I honestly don't understand why it won't work... I have not had any issues with it.

Android has issues with ad hoc sometimes. Certain devices like the Kindle fire can only use infrastructure based wifi due to the chipset used and/or the drivers included. Infrastructure mode is a more robust and stable network vs ad hoc too. I get about an extra 20' in range on infrastructure vs ad hoc. On infrastructure I can cover my entire 3600 sqft house with 1 access point getting 2-3 bars at the farthest end of the house, with ad hoc the back side of my house gets very weak or no signal at all. If your router/hotspot is capable I'd recommend settinf it up in infrastructure mode with the same ssid and security key (if you use one) and go from there

Thanks but I'm looking at basically sharing my wired internet connection from my windows 7 laptop at work to my phone because reception is so shoddy. Tried connectify which didn't work, and I can get an ad hoc network running on my computer just can't see it with me phone

Is it a work pc? If so, they may have a blocker of sorts. I worked at EA Games and could never connect to any of the test laptops via ad hoc. Even using third party. But, I could come home and connect with no problem.

You said your phone's reception sucks at work. I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm wrong. Are you trying to get better data connection or phone connection? If phone, piggybacking off a router or PC won't help you to make calls if you can't now, unless you're using some form of voip on the phone. The SMS and phone voice run on the same line (I think). If you put the phone into airplane mode, but turned on wifi, you wouldn't receive calls or text. You'd only be able to do data. You have to be on a sprint tower to use the phone part.
Also, if you want your phone to get on adhoc and you can't now, you need a modified wpa_supplicant file for this phone. I don't know how to mod the file but a simple file swap and reboot would do it. At least that's how I did it with my original sprint galaxy 7" tab.

Reception is fine, it's just that data speeds at work are painfully slow. If I have a lot of apps to update on my phone, would be nice to just piggy back into the work network and do it that way.
My research has indicated that I'll need a modified wpa_supplicant, like you said, and I've tried some that are floating out there but they all seem to bork my wifi and I haven't been able to locate one specifically for the E4GT. Also, I have no idea how to mod it myself lol

What method can I use to tether?

T-Mobile surprised me when I was offered unlimited LTE, capped at around 4800GB of data. I have rooted my phone and I'm running VirginROM (4.3 Vanilla), and the default WiFi hotspot option doesn't work. I get data when my phone is on HSPA+, but an LTE connection will just not send data to my laptop or PS Vita. Are there any reliable apps or methods to turn my phone into a LTE hotspot?

Carrier not supported for that app, sucks since it has good reviews. And the other app the poster shared below doesn't seem to work either. Anyone else have reliable working tether apps?

(Q) free wifi tethering

So I went to the (how to guide) here and it describes how to get it with the wifi tether app and being rooted... well ive done that mate.... and I check my t-mobile account and it still uses my 2.5 gigs of free wifi tethering.... is there another way?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
If you already have a plan with free tethering what exactly do you expect from this? If you use data, it's going to show up on your account as being used whether you are tethering or not.
I don't expect anything I just thought the WiFi tethering would show up on on my data plan which is unlimited. My tether plan is only 2.5 gigs plan. It does the same as the stock hotspot tethering. Which in turn renders that app "WiFi tethering" useless. Its no big deal just asking the guide said he could use unlimited WiFi tether and T-Mobile didn't charge him for unlimited use... that wasnt the case for me....

It works for all data going in and out of your phone. And it all depends on which vpn you choose. A lot of free ones slow down data speeds to keep it free. Paid ones do not.

If your with Tmobile... use the my tmobole account app
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
STEP 1
"STOCK ROM"
-download "1 click tether" from the market...this will force the internal tethering to turn on
OR
Run an AOSP rom, internal tethering is unlocked in aosp roms
STEP 2
once youve figured out step one, you should be able to tether, whether on aosp or tw ,it dont matter....only problem is, tmobile will soon block you because of your user agent on the computer
so you have two options...
1. download a browser on your computer that supports changing your user agent...chrome, firefox...ect...change the user agent to something other than windows...you can now use unlimited tethering on your browser.
NOW.....This will only give internet to the browser, not the computer globally...The only way to get global tethering on every program on the pc you'd have to set up a VPN...via the phone or via pc...VPN's are usually not free thou
My setup
-Running CM10 ROM
-Using the internal tethering option in the rom
-I use google chrome
-In google chrom i use this extension called "user agent switcher" https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher/lkmofgnohbedopheiphabfhfjgkhfcgf
-everytime i open google chrome i change the user agent to "safari on mac"
DONE
Yes try vpn hideman.
