When I used windows 7 my phone was detected by pc as well as pc companion, but when I upgraded to windows 8 on my laptop, pc and companion both won't recognise the phone, but flashtool does recognise.
Drivers from flashtool are all correctly installed. It just gets connected in Mass Storage mode(MSC), but not MTP( media transfer mode).
I read many forums but found no solution, could anyone help me out

There are no official drivers released for Windows 8. Especially if you use x64.
Current possibility is to disable driver verification enforcement (search on google, I'm not gonna write it all for you) and then give another try.
Tried doing that, no luck, btw I use x86.

Having the same problem here and until now i couldn't figure it out
Why some get it working but on my laptop is not.
Probably there is some problems not in our xperia drivers
But because of some hardware differences in our computers
Thanks to my little luck, i have an old laptop which i use to flash
Firmwares and kernels!
Good luck and hope you find a solution and share it to us
There are no MTP drivers, so it cannot be used on Windows 8.

should work for you as well as I'm using it also on my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit
if it works for you, give thanks to the original source and OP of that thread

When you connect your device, once pop-up showed that you don't have the driver, just manually point to the folder where you placed the files and it will automatically scan that folder for the drivers.

I recently faced problem getting access to adb from windows 8 because of non compatible drivers... I searched a bit and found the drivers but they were followed by more problems such as unsigned drivers and ****.
So I made a simpler guide for everyone who was frustrated trying to get ADB working on Windows 8.
Files needed:
1. Drivers Mediafire | Dropbox
2. ADB Interface
Steps:
1. Download and Extract the drivers to any folder.
2. Now we need to disable signature checker. We can follow this guide
3. Now connect the phone. Make sure your android debugging is enabled.
4. Go to device manager. (Go to Start, start typing device manager, in that search click settings and select device manager)
5. Now find "Android Phone" with a yellow error sign in front. It will be expanded by default.
6. Right click on it and select update driver.
7. Select browse my computer.
8. Link to the folder where you extracted the drivers. Check the subfolder.
9. Click next. It'll display a warning. Select Install anyway.
10. Completed.
11. You may now download SDK and ADB.
Thanks to all the sites I linked and oops I forgot where I got the drivers from lol.
P.S. It is just tested on Wildfire S, It may work with other htc phones too and maybe with others too. Please Inform in thread if it works with your device.
thanks

As far as I know, HTC Sync isn't compatible with Windows8.. Try finding a newer version.

Check whether you've firs installed Samsung USB Drivers in computer. Install KIES and it'll automatically install the drivers.
Also check the USB Debugging mode is not checked in your phone. It'll be there in Developer Options
adb non detect.
Yeah. I am having similar problem. Pc wont detect my phone even when usb debugging is on or off. Installed all necessary drivers and still wont detect. In fact my note 8.0 having the same problem. It was ok a few days back. Is it the phone or pc that is causing the problem? Note 2 was derooted and 8.0 original fw. Can anyone help?
yes i have the same issue as well
i have no idea why
Try to do everything from the begining. Uninstall all previous drivers that you have installed. Restart your computer. You could download and install Samsung drivers pack only if you don't use Kies (search on Google for the latest pack) or download and install latest Samsung Kies suite and install drivers that come with it. After that connect your phone to the PC using your USB cable. When it starts to search for drivers open that notification and you will see something like >> Skip obtaining drivers from internet<< Then it will automaticaly install drivers from PC (the one that you have installated previously) or it will prompt you to point to the folder where drivers were instalated. I can't remember exactly how it goes but this is the solution that worked for me...And you must click on skip for every single item (on driver list) or it will not be instalated properly...

I cant get adb drivers to work with 8.1. I've tried every driver in the book. perhaps uncheck mtp and select camera and turn off debugging ? boot into recovery while connected ? that installs a driver also. have you installed a "naked driver " ?

Need more info about your problem. what happens when you type adb devices?
If I'm not mistaken there were a few people that had the same issue and it turned out to be a bug when trying to use a USB 3.0 port on their computers. If you are using a USB 3.0 port for your cable you might wanna try plugging it into a USB 2.0. FYI I could be remembering completely wrong
I did everything but an engineering hboot with USB 2.0 port on an Intel x79 chipset motherboard on Windows 8.1.

I had this problem too but got around it. I had no problem getting the device detected in Fastboot mode, but ADB was a problem. What I did was download and begin installation of the latest HTC sync manager with the phone already connected. It seems the first thing it does is install updated drivers then asks if you want to continue with the installation. I didn't want to install sync manager, so I cancelled the install. However the drivers remained. After a reboot I checked Device manager and sure enough Android 1.0 device was there with working drivers.
Checked the device was recognised with the ADB command ADB DEVICES, but showed no device connected. I then unplugged the USB cable and plugged in to another USB 2.0 port and voila device gets deteced by ADB.
I also had to use this version of ADB http://www.mediafire.com/download/e5mieo2vxjd71ws/android-tools.zip and it had to be the original HTC USB cable and USB debugging enabled in Developer options.
Now for some reason I have to swap USB ports each time ADB doesn't detect the device and pretty much works each time.
I think it's usb3 issue , adb doesn't work on usb3 ports,
there was a subject on how to convert usb3 port into usb2 search the forums
USB 3.0 worked fine for me on 8.1. I used Sooner ADB drivers and manually picked them.

I have no issues on win 8.1 I use the Google USB drivers that are with the sdk. The first time, I do have to go into device manager and update the driver. When it asks do you want to locate the driver or pick it from a list select pick from a list. There should be an Android entry if you installed the USB driver. Select that and then select adb interface. You'll also have to do the same for fastboot mode the first time.

I couldn't find a working version of ADB for 8.1 however I installed HTC Sync from the virtual CD and that installed all the drivers. Uninstalled sync manager cos I don't use it and the drivers remain and work fine.

check your usb 3 controller. Is it intel 3.0 usb controller. if you see intel xtensible controller in device manager this could be the issue, it can break adb on all ports. here is a link to a fix for this usb problem i can confirm it works as i have had this issue myself. Hope this helps

Hey Guys,
So im having an issue for when i try to connect my note 2 running Jedi X20 to my windows 8.1 computer i get an error stating "USB Device Not Recognized". I have tried everything from trying different cables, downloading drivers, deleted and reinstalling drivers, checking to see if my phone is set to PDA, trying factory reset in TWRP, etc. i was wondering if anyone has successfully fixed this issue and they could help me.
I am trying to get my device connected so ODIN may recognize my device so i can revert it back to Stock.

Have you tried the USB ports on the back of the PC? If so....
Maybe try updating the drivers for the motherboard of your PC instead of using standard Windows 8.1 drivers. Assuming Windows 8.1 is recognizing all the USB ports you are trying to plug your cable into.
If this does not work and you have a copy of Windows 7, download Virtualbox and install Windows 7 as a virtual machine. Launch it make sure you have the USB settings inside the virtual machine setup to allow the USB to be used from Host PC.
Load the Samsung drivers in the Windows 7 virtual machine. I'm assuming those are the drivers you have stated you have downloading and reinstalled.
Sorry meant to say it's a laptop. Tried all ports and installing drivers. Unfortunately I don't have windows 7
