[Q] How do I: Root my Koodo Samsung Galaxy S2X (SGH-T989D)? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey all, this is my first time trying to root my device. I am using the Samsung Galaxy S2X with Jelly Bean 4.1.2 on the Koodo/Telus network. I have looked at various forums, rooting doesnt seem overly complex however, I could really use some advice. I haven't been able to find any guides for people using JB 4.1.2 does it make a difference? ( I would assume it does ) and this is where I need help. I don't want to make the mistake of using the wrong files since I am using a rather new update. If possible I would love to revert back to an earlier version of ICS but it's not entirely necessary. I just want this thing rooted lol. Any help would be appreciated.

Google:
root s2x jelly bean <----------------- First link
I can't post links yet.
I used this method. Although i do not have the feature.xml to edit and remove the shutter sound. Which i think it should like the S3.

[Q] New to Galaxy S III

Hello All,
I just purchased the T-Mobile edition on the Galaxy S III and I ignorantly updated from ICS 4.0.4 to JB 4.1.1.
I want to root my phone. Am I screwed? Please help me I don't want to screw up my phone.
Thanks for any help.
Why would that be ignorant ?
Yes, you can root JB. Even if you couldn't, you could always flash back to ICS if it was that important to you.
Check out the other forums here and ctrl+f "root" - there are guides that will completely walk you through it. I used the root66 root-injected stock ROM to root my phone, it was the first time I'd ever done such a thing and the guide is well-written and goes baby-step by baby-step.

Thanks for the info I'm rooted .
Any recommendations on the best ROM?
Have people become so lazy that they can't search?
Don't be a jerk. I have tried a few I was just asking what he thought was best that's all.
Comon bro, you made time to criticize but not to help.

Evil1art has a couple of very solid roms. V7 is ics and my favorite but his jellybean build is very good also.

Stock AT&T JB 4.12 With Tethering - easiest way?

Hello all,
I did a search and was not able to find what I'm looking for. All I need/want is stock AT&T JB 4.1.2 with tethering (Carrier unlock would be nice too).
Is there one available? If yes, would someone point it out to me. If not, what is the closest I can come to this? I just do not want any bloatware or an unstable OS.
Thank you in advance,
-NJ

Well first off we don't have a "stock" AT&T JB 4.1.2 because they have not released it. You would not be able to get "Carrier unlock unlock," unless you mean that you want to change the carrier name not actually unlock your phone to be used on another network. But if you want to actually unlock your device to be used for another carrier you need to get the sim unlock way. You can find that information in this forum.
And the closest thing that you can have bloat removed and tethering is to Go Into the Forum that says Android Developemnt (not Original Development.) to find ROM's that can be installed. Be sure to read the Original Post (OP) found on the first page of the thread, make sure you are rooted and to follow all directions there...you can also find the description of the ROM contents in the Change Log..
Hope this answers your question.
Best wishes.
I'm pretty sure 4.1.1 stock work with tethering really well and there is no 4.1.2 release yet, I can't believe how slow carrier/Samsung can be Lol...

CM Installer and 4.3 KNOX?

Friend of mine is wanting to root his (virgin) S3 via the CM Installer program. He's new and I'm newer and not seasoned enough to offer him a ton of help should something go wrong. My question is has any tested or ran the CM Installer on the newest 4.3 w/ KNOX? When I did my S3 I wasn't on 4.3. Thanks.

Rooting is really easy on this phone, Knox or otherwise makes no difference. Check out Android Forums, Virgin Mobile All Things Root subforum. More device-specific info, including how to root; we piggyback off Sprint in terms of custom ROM's and such, so the Sprint XDA forums are useful for users on VM and Boost, but like I said, if you want to get specific info for the VM variant, that is the way to go.

Noob trying to flash Kitkat on T-mo S2

Hey guys. Coming from Win-mo where everything is just straight forward so this stuff is pretty new. I am trying to find a Kitkat rom for my T-mo S2. I can't seem to find any threads specifically talking about branded phones.
Can anyone help me out here? Info
The phone isn't rooted and on stock jellybean 4.1.2.
If you can direct me to some step by step threads or even better actually telling me what to do step by step it'd be appreciated. Thank you.
I presume you have a SGH T-989 ? If so, you're in the wrong place, your thread belongs here. I've asked mods to move your thread, sit tight until they do.
Yeah I realized that after I posted, I just couldn't figure out what the differences were. Thank you for the help.

Cyanogenmod 11 runs Kit Kat. You can download it from the official page. As for the actual flashing, you need to have root and the latest Clockworkmod installed, as I have read about some issues if you try to flash it with other custom recoveries or older versions of it.
You don't need to root. Just flash the recovery and flash the rom. The rom itself is rooted. If you want to root your stock rom flash the su zip in recovery
