When you open the sound picker and select one, it will start playing.

Xperia ion sound preview
Thanks, but I know how to select sound and preview one by one.
What i am asking is to preview the sound before selecting it, like it used to be in nokia mobiles.
And where can I find the manual as I don't have the manual with me.

XDA is a developer site, NOT a support site!
You should never tell people to "provide info on this"
Also how is everyone supposed to know how a nokia "works"

I think this is the correct area to ask for this but what i need is a simple prototype we can base OAA off of this is a big project if you have not heard follow the link in my signature to the thread.
What we need is:
1. a basic go-by a basic format for how the first set of non google android apps will look
2. Color scheme
We can start with this and go from there if anyone has any *helpful* input post it remember this is a community project.
a simple jpeg/bmp/png/ect. will be good enough for now and we will have a poll to see the future of android on the visual side.
Wait - a prototype of what?
A theme? Logo?
What are we discussing?

I own a TMobile hTC HD7 and I have been waiting patiently for a "Restart/Soft Reset" Application to hit the Marketplace. I am actually quite surprised that not more people are interested in a simple app like that. There are countless times when my phone will start acting up or not loading applications properly, so I am constantly restarting my phone. A soft reset app would be a great addition to my phone app collection. This is more of a request as opposed to a rant. While I'm not as talented as some of the developers here, but I am quite sure that a simple restart application wouldn't be insanely hard to develop. Is there anyone out there that is willing to help me out? Or anyone else who thinks this would be a good idea? Or am I alone in this? Lol
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
yeah Me too.. I agree with you.. I hope someone will make a restart software or a task manager software...
Well its nice to know that I wasn't the only one who would like to see a Soft Reset Application with the Windows Phone 7 theme and feel as the UI. I hope someone amazing comes across this thread and makes this a reality.

Does it actually need a UI? Wouldn't a tile pinned to start do just fine? I mean, what would be included in the UI apart from a "reboot" button?
Well i guess it wouldn't need some crazy elaborate UI.... Just an icon nice enough to put on my home page.

Has a skilled developer heard my plea? And is willing to develop this totally useful application?

I personally don't see a need for such an app but I'll knock something together over the weekend. So basically just an icon you place on your home screen that, when pressed, reboots your phone? right?
Yes something along those lines.... Obviously something that kinda fits the whole Windows Phone 7 Metro Theme... But the reason why I thought a UI would be necessary... Would be a Settings page... To have the icon that is placed on the homeacreen able to do different functions that each user could specify on their own. But definitely a way to simply Restart the phone...
Sent from Projekt hTC HD7
And yea man.. Thanks a lot for attempting this.... Like I have stated before... I am not a developer myself otherwise I would've made something like this a while ago... But I am quite sure that this wouldn't be an insanely difficult task.... But regardless your efforts are well appreciated... Looking forward to seeing this evolve.

Well, that just confused me again
Either you want a tile which will reboot your phone (for which I personally see no use - as it's easy enough to just press the power button for 2 seconds) or you want ... err, well ... something completely different
In any case, I've written an app that will do just this - clicking it will ask you if you want to reboot or shutdown the device. No bells or whistles - this is all it does. Will have to tidy up the code a bit, but I'll get it attached here later tonight or tomorrow.

You'd be surprised
There are no APIs available for this so I've had to write native code to get it working - which means it will never be available in the marketplace and will only run on developer-unlocked devices.
Yes, this will be a handy tool. Another added feature I've missed on WP7. This & a screen capture app are all I'm really missing, app-wise that is.
O man.. That kinda sucks for me... I don't have a unlocked device... Mine is Tmobile hTC HD7... but whatever then... I'm glad someone out there tried.. And allowed others to benefit from it... Thanks

Hi all have used the DLL Import work here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006331
To create a simple restarter. Click the app and restart your phone. As it uses the native API's it can't be put on the marketplace but for anyone with a dev unlocked phone simple deploy the XAP and all is good.

Hi Folks:
I am a developer and developed a contact widget that could put all your contacts on your homescreen, and bring up the QuickContact dialog when user click a contact. The app has a free already available on the Goolge Play Store for a long time. The source code is availalbe on Github.
My widget is welcomed by most of users, however got some serious problems on Sony Xperia devices. The QuickContact dialog seems not poping up and freezes user's homescreen untill they hit the Back button. This is the line for bringining up the Quick Contact dialog for a particular contact:
QuickContact.showQuickContact(context, intent.getSourceBounds(), uri, ContactsContract.QuickContact.MODE_SMALL, null);
I noticed that Sony UI does have a similar QuickContact dialog and wondering how I could use that?

do u see that section?
/and about xperia's problem : add new widget to homescreen and then choose contact, select which contact u want to see in the homescreen
and done!

Moved to Q&A
I will really appreciate if anyone could provide some help here
Hey, I found the solution.
you get the contactUri wrong in your ContactAccessor.java, you use: Uri contactUri = ContentUris.withAppendedId(ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI, contactId);
what works for me: Uri contactUri = ContactsContract.Contacts.getLookupUri(context.getContentResolver(), ContentUris.withAppendedId(ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI, contactId));
Btw, your code was great help for me, thank you for that!

Thanks so much for the help! I have made the changes according to your suggestion: https://github.com/yuyang226/ContactsWidgetICS/commit/40820b9d49eff16b06050f3c1614c2911f429dbf.
I have also build a binary apk for anyone to try it out: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6712710/ContactsWidgetICS.apk.
Finally, may I know which Xperia device you are using and which Android version are you using? I will publish this build to Play store if it works.
Looks like the previous change not working for Samsung Touchwiz, and I have made further changes to fix that problem: https://github.com/yuyang226/ContactsWidgetICS/commit/822127ccf504b397fb747faedbac92a0ce42a5d6

Hey I haven't tested your app, I'm just using the same approach The original code worked on nexus7,nexus S, sony tipo, but it wasn't working on the sony sola.
The one I wrote worked on all four, I only have these devices right now. I'll test this, because my app uses the quickcontact too, and I would like it work on all the devices.
It seems to me, problem is, that non-stock devices use the contactUri somehow differently. Will test it, and report back!

Thank you buddy! Just let me know after you test my build. It is a shame for Sony that they changed the way how QuickContact dialog works.

Your version works on the sony sola, tipo, nexus7 and nexus S. So, touch wiz needs some extra love too...that's just great...
I don't know why they are doing this, but it's a pain in the a$$. Anyway, I hope this works now on all the rest of the devices!
Thx for making your code available!! As I said, it was a great starting point
edit: forget to say the android version: sola and tipo run on 4.04, nexus 7 on the latest 4.2, and nexus s on 4.1

thanks for the test report, and my app can finally support Sony devices!
I have a Windows Mobile device, it's camera app is very bad and I want to change it.
I want to improve the Camera software because
---Photos made with my device are always too dark...
Maybe because in my device lacks an ambient light sensor for automatic screen brightness adjustment.
---I don't understand why the Secondary Camera of my device (with 0.3 MegaPixel) is better than the Primary Camera (with 2 MegaPixel)...
1---Does it exist camera apps that can I install? (like FXCamera for Android...)
2---I saw some Xda members that have imported and shared softwares from their HTC (and Sony Ericcson) devices.
HTC's Camera Apps are fantastic and they take photos very well. (sometimes with interfaces similar to Android Cameras...)
Where can I download these camera softwares? Can anyone upload them? I am sure that they will work.
3---I found the code of a camera app that works on all WM devices(http://winmocamera.codeplex.com/) Can anyone compile it for me? (Just press the "Compile" button, because it's all already developed)
4---Do you know WM devices with panorama/landscape function?
5---Can anyone upload these files? (they are in the "Windows" folder). "CamcorderDriver.dll" , "camerabho.dll" , "QCAMERA.dll" , "OEMCameraDll.dll".
There are also "TOSHIBA.OCR.Camera" and "HTCCamera.dll" (or something like that)
other
6---I also read that a WM cooker said "Now with my rom, it's possible to use the zoom of the camera application with all resolution "
It's really possible. We can use zoom with low resolution (normally) and now even with high resolution.
Which registry values should I change to do this?
7---How can I change the folder where photos and videos are saved?
Help please

Hey, xda!
I found this package "com.microsoft.cortana" I know many of you knows what is it.
I wanna share with all the people reading this.
Maybe I need to say that this isn't my job, but I wanna share as I searched before and no post like this have been made...
But... What the hell is Cortana? Let the screenshots talk to you
Cortana is an app with which you can use your voice to make a call, send a text message, search the web, or open an app.
Cortana can help you:
Schedule a meeting
Set a reminder for an important task
Send automatic replies for callers when you don’t want to be disturbed
Check your location
Get up-to-date traffic or weather info, and much more
You need a Microsoft account to use Cortana.
Cortana is not available in all languages. For info on the supported languages, go to www.windowsphone.com.
Also, here´s a video
Download from the attachments.
Just say, Hi Cortana! here are the screenshots
