I currently have the T-Mobile version with the 4.1.1 stock rom with a modified framework and root but stock recovery as well.
The phone don't seem to find the update available to get 4.1.2
What would be the best way to upgrade to the newer version?
Where can I get a backup of the recovery for that newer version.
Firmware thread stickied in development. Link in my sig.

Just flash the new root66 file then I assume?
If I recall correctly that should update and not lose data right?
Thank you
Correct. But still back up your stuff. Things do happen sometimes.

So I can flash one of those 4.1.1 stock roms on stock recovery? If so could you let me know how

You can flash the otas in stock recovery if thats what you mean. But you have to be full stock UVALH2 first.
If you mean one of the roms based on those leaked otas then you have to flash with cwm or twrp.

Well I went to that website that was posted above and it showed 4.1.1. I am on complete stock uvlh2 right now. Just was wondering if and how you flash that or if I need to root and do it through CWM

Ok, first and just fyi, all of the files listed under OTA on that site are leaked, unofficial updates. Each has its own.....quirks. the only officially released ones are above the otas listed under firmware i believe. Only ics 4.0.4 are official builds.
The otas are basically patches, not full firmware. They patch existing files to update them to a newer release.
If you still want to go with the otas there are a few ways to do this.
The official way:
From full stock UVALH2 (no mods, debloating, modem must match, stock recovery, root is ok) boot into recovery and flash.
If previously rooted you can attempt to preserve root using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.
Mobile Odin method (root required):
Get free Mobile Odin from xda, get full version on play store. (Full version will inject root during flash. I highly recommend this method)
Open Mobile Odin and choose OTA/Update.zip. Select the OTA you wish to flash. If pro version make sure EverRoot options are selected. Do not check wipe data, cache or dalvik. Press Flash Firmware and confirm to start the process.
CWM method (root required):
I have not fone this myself so try to confirm elsewhere the exact steps. Using latest cwm recovery, flash ota file and when asked do not flash recovery. When flashing is complete then flash a cwm flashable version of SuperSu/Superuser. Reboot.
After flashing any ota check for these files and if present delete or rename them. They rewrite stock recovery every boot.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Thats it! If i missed anything please let me know, particularly with cwm method. Thx
Alternatively you can just flash a rom in dev section based on these otas.
Hope that helps! Good luck!

I'm rooted with a custom recovery running M919UVUAMDB.
So if i get it right. Only way to upgrade is to
Odin to stock.
Upgrade and break root.
Root with upgrade.
Re Flash upgraded stock.
Pretty much. Or you can use Skies to do recovery to the lastest firmware, then root again.

Been searching for last hour or two and this is only thread I've found this specific topic. Just got S4 today coming from a GNex so somethings are new to me.
Is there a detailed instructions somewhere on how to do this?
I'm also rooted on M919UVUAMDB and trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to MDL so that I can re-root again.
Install Kies. Under Tools setting, select recovery and put your phone to download mode. Let Kies do the rest.

Thanks for clarifying. Just to double check, would cwm recovery affect the kies firmware recovery process?
No. Kies would wipe it off during recovery process and install the latest firmware.

lol I've searched around too, but made my own conclusions. ahha
Not attempting to promote any particular roms but Wicked v2 is running mdl update with the mdb modem and radio and smoother than silk on s4, Revolt requires manualy updating with setuidremoval but has a great writeup how to do so as does Infamous S4, I personally can confirm Revolt and Wicked are working flawless as long as the minimal theming currently in both is fine with you.

I hope someone can help with a questionI have.
I need to flash back to stock rom and do a factory reset on my AT&T SGIII - this I know how to do . However, what I don't know is if the links I've found for tar files for a stock restore (like the one posted here)are for the ice cream sandwich version that launched with the phone, or the newer jelly bean version.
If it is the older version, once I'm done restoring it back to stock and factory settings, will I get an option to update to jelly bean thru AT&T?
Or do I need to find a stock AT&T jelly bean file to flash? If so, where do I find that?
any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Be carefull going back. If on 4.3 bootloader.it is warned not to go back.
Also be more descriptive.
What are you trying to leave from
Where did you find that link.
Just looking at the download name there is no way to tell what it is as far as version.
If back to stock and did not trip the counter then OTA will be available.

The file in the link was uploaded on 07-04-2012, so it has to be for Ice Cream Sandwich.

What bootloader are you on? This is crucial because it will determine if you can use ODIN to flash.

Currently, I have the Sonic Free GS3_R7.1.1 Resurrection rom, with a 3.0.51-KT74-gd1f1083 ktoonsez Kernel, all running on 4.1.1 version of android.
also my modem is I747UCDLK3.
I didn't know if I needed to get the same version of a stock rom to flash back to or if it mattered. Ideally, I still want to be able to get the latest android version released by AT&T. I don't necessarily want to flash back to the version that launched with the SG3. Unless, after doing so I could update the phone thru AT&T (OTA or other method) to the most current released version.
Thanks
I've looked through all the posts for this phone and haven't had any luck. I'm trying to install the latest version of cyanogenmod 11 on my s2. But it says I need to update the radio. How would I go about doing this?

You can flash uvmc6 if you don't already have it

If you're coming from any rom that is based on JB 4.1.2 or higher then just flash one of the radios found here.
If coming from a rom that is based on ICS 4.0.4 or older then you need to update to stock JB 4.1.2 to get the proper radio files, use Odin and site like SamMobile to get the proper firmware rom or use Samsung Kies.
Once you have the proper radio also make sure you have KK4.4 compatible recovery - You must use TWRP 2.6.1.0 or CWM 6.0.3.7+ recovery or you will boot loop!
Note about just flashing newer radio without going to stock first, some tried this and ran in to lots of issues because those radio .zips don't have all the files needed for the radio's partition, if you were running a JB 4.2/CM 10.1 rom without issue you should be able to get away with just flashing radio.
Hello, so I never took the OTA update to Kit Kat. I just stayed on 4.3 and flashed a Kit Kat Rom. My sig says what I'm running right now. My question is.....can I just update my bootloader somehow from MJB to the new one so I can get the latest modem? I dont want to have to go back to stock and get the ota and then reflash my rom and all that stuff. Or do I have to do that?
Oh and if I have to go back to stock to get the new bootloader and modem....will this suffice? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Just follow enewman17's thread on how to update. Its in the General section. And yes you have to go back to stock 4 3.
My warranty bit is 1. Will that be an issue?

Nope. Doesnt affect OTA's in my experience.
Lol you answered my question on both threads....hah thank you sir!
