Hi! I need your expert help!
I'm able to do this command through Windows: "fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.1-maguro.img" to simply boot into CWM without flash it.
My goal is to get the same result with terminal emulator directly on my phone! How can I do?
I keep the CWM img file (recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.1-maguro.img) into the phone. What command have I to type?
Thanks sooooo much

If you don't want to flash a custom recovery permanently, there's no way to only boot it from Android.

Is there a way to flash recovery image with terminal emulator i knew there was a way when i first rooted my G1 if so is it safe and how to i do it ?
If you want to flash a recovery image (I guess you mean a Nandroid backup) you need to do it from the recovery. You cannot do it from the phone itself, neither from terminal nor from ADB.

No i mean flash cwm recovery i.e (boot.boot.img) from terminal emulator instead of ADB as ADB is nothing more than a remote terminal?
You don't flash boot.img files with ADB, you do it with Fastboot. Fastboot is a completely different thing.

Ooops my bad lol i thought there was a way to to it with terminal emulator like flash_image etc
For most phones, you can flash the recovery through a terminal.. but with newer SE phones, recovery is built into the kernel and you can't flash a new kernel unless you're in fastboot mode
There's three ways to get CWM working on your phone.
1. Boot the CWM (boot.img) through fastboot. Then use it and then reboot phone. CWM is gone and you need to boot it again from fastboot when ever you have to use it.
2. Flash Doomlords kernel as it's embedded in the boot.img (kernel). You can boot into at every time you need to from your phone (native CWM).
3. Flash CM7 onto your phone. Same story as with Doomlords kernel.
For all three choises above you need an unlocked bootloader to do it as you have to have fastboot access to issue the commands.

Instead of using cwm use a Ra based recovery like smelkus‘. Best recovery for evo.
http://d-h.st/n5n
Rename the file to "recovery.img" then go to the command prompt and type in "fast boot flash recovery recovery.img [enter]"
Make sure everything is spelt correctly and it should work.
Remember to thank smelkus if you get it working. Good luck man.

Flashing recovery w fastboot
Hi,
R u absolutely sure u can just rename, for example "smelkus recovery 4.2.img", to "recovery.img" then after u have adb & fast boot working, simply type "fast boot flash recovery recovery.img"?
I saw instructions I believe in the EVO 4G dev area, under-team DIRT that u need to use the fast boot command as stated but with the path to whatever the name of the recovery image is. If so, this is the answer I've been looking for. Because I have to get smelkus installed before I can properly partition my SD card and then install the team DIRT ICS ROM.
Thx

I have to say i did not need to S-OFF my evo to install a rom from the phone, thanks for your help.
My EVO is unlocked and S-On and I've had no issues flashing Roms so far.

So I accidentally formatted system and my sd card in touch recovery (don't ask) and now my phone is in bootloop because it has no Rom. For some reason I can't mount sd card through recovery and I can't find a mac tool to help me flash back to stock. Can someone please help!
Use fastboot and flash the Google factory recovery image system.img
Thanks for your reply. Can you please tell me how to do this
I am downloading the images now and I know how to get into fastboot. I just need to know that mac commands
I am unsure of mac commands but on windows through ADB you unzip the system image until you see the recover.img, system.img, and such. Place the system.img file into you adb platform tools file and then open command prompt and type fastboot flash system system.img and let it install then you reboot
Damn I have no clue man
Check this out it may help you a bit

I got it working. Thanks guys
i tried to root my phone (unsuccessfully) and now i cant even factory reset it. if i try it loads onto the recovery screen where the touch screen is unresponsive (my reason for not completing the root, as well as not detecting my phone for twrp flashing). is my phone now "bricked" on stock? UNROOTABLE
I presume your bootloader is unlocked? Are you able to boot into your ROM or not?
If you want to just bring your phone back up and running, you will need to run a RUU or restore a nandroid backup:
So post the result of the following:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main

thanks again vin4yak..my phone works perfectly as htc wants it to .. ive unlocked bootloader.. pushed super su.zip.. reboot into bootloader.
cannot push twrp as it says device not found. if i go into recovery the touch screen is unresponsive.. could this be due to missing this step or should it be working?

The latest TWRP doesn't work on bases greater than 3.14... So I recommend flashing CWM and then proceeding with the rooting process!

Didn't get you??! What are you trying to say?
To flash a new recovery you have to put the recovery img file in your fastboot folder and then flash it via opening cmd in fastboot folder and phone in fastboot mode... and then :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache

Greaatt!!! :good:
Hi everyone,
So I'm kind of new to flashing ROMs but I pretty much got it and flashed a couple of them the last couple of weeks.
Today I flashed the GPE ROM and everything was going smooth, installed successfully but then, the device won't boot up - it just showed me black sceen.
After a few minutes of non responding I forced shut down and went into fastboot, then hit recovery. I have CWM custom recovery. The device showed me the boot animation of the GPE for some reason and then won't go into recovery but showed me "type password to decrypt storage" for some reason. I couldn't go into recovery no matter what I did. Then somehow the device rebooted as usual and now it's on and running but tons of bugs and force stopping apps. IM TRYING TO GO INTO CWM RECOVERY BUT WHENEVER I CHOOSE THAT OPTION IT SIMPLY REBOOTS AGAIN.
HOW CAN I GO INTO RECOVERY AGAIN AND RESTORE MY NANDROID BACKUP? OR DO ANYTHING IN ORDER TO GET A DIFFERENT ROM?
The PC IS NOT RECOGNIZING THE DEVICE, CANT TRANSFER FILES OR RUN FASTBOOT COMMANDS!
THANKS IN ADVANCE! PLEASE HELP!! THE PHONE IS NOT FUNCTIONAL NOW
Nimi.
You don't need to type in caps to make your message more urgent. We'll still help you if don't use the caps lock.
fastboot erase cache, and re-install CWM with fastboot.

OK, So I am able to recognize the device on PC and run commands but maybe im doing somehting wrong.
Can you please walk me through the exact commands I have to type in the right order? From A to Z.
THANKS!
Edit: CMD error says: "C:\Users\NIMI>fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.2-m8.img
error: cannot load 'openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.2-m8.img'"
1) Make sure you have fastboot connectivity. Connect the phone in fastboot mode, and type the command: fastboot devices
2) Place the desired recovery .img in the folder where you have fastboot.exe located. Usually, the most updated version of your recovery is best.
3) In Command Prompt, change directory to your fastboot folder. I have no idea where you setup that up. But it will be something like: cd foldername
4) fastboot erase cache
5) fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Where recovery.img is the filename of your desired recovery.
