I rooted my At&t Note 2 with 4.2.2 and it seemed to work fine. Then when I went to get the gapps put on for the google software I ran into an issue. Since I was dumb and didnt create a recovery spot first I have nothing to go back to. Right now my phone is stuck in the "android system recovery" screen where the android guy is laying on his back with a red sign over his open stomach. I have tried to just hit wipe and to reboot it but all it does is restart the phone and bring me right back to the screen. What do I do please help!!! Is it possible to download someone elses recovery and apply update from my SD card??
You need to use Odin to install a recovery. ..and a rom...
You are currently in limp mode. ..
Be careful. ..you are 1 step away from a brick. ..
Go to the development section and study up with ODIN. ..then prepare the PC to run it. ..
Once Odin functions...prepare the device. ..
Your goal is first a working recovery. .. (TWRP or CWM)....
Then a suitable rooted stock rom...
For now. ...make no more attempts until you understand these functions. ..or you "will" brick the device. ..
I'm not trying to be rude or condescending. ..I'm trying to save your phone. .g

He just told you, you have to use odin to push a recovery. That shoulldve been the first thing you did, but it's what you need to do now.

Maybe use Kies firmware update and initialization to restore to stock and start over.

I don't think so, you're going to have to find out why odin isn't recognizing your device. Maybe Gregg can chime back in but until he does I would suggest re-downloading the sammy drivers and see if that helps.

Are you putting your phone in Download Mode ? Turn off phone, hold down the HOME key, Volume Down and Power Button. You should boot into Download mode, this is what you should be in order to use Odin. Then follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275844 to return you to stock or flash a custom recovery if you like to stay in a custom rom.
Good luck

Agreed. ..
If the device drivers are correct. ..and Odin can't see the device. ..then Kies is a last resort. .
You should also try another cable as well. ..
Cables must be OEM...or of the same quality. ..and for the same device. .
If these attempts fail. ..continue to try again. ..
The device isn't dead...and if download mode exists...You will beat this issue. ..
Never give up. ..just keep at it. ..g
If Odin can't see your device it only means one thing you don't have proper drivers for it. Reinstall drivers and try again, as long as you can access download mode you are good.

Could be just a bad flash as long as imei is not showing null or weird number which a sign of corrupted imei /efs. Seen it happen before when I flashed att with modem included. All I had to was flash correct firmware and it correcter my baseband and imei.

the tittle says it all. i want to go stock to take it back to sprint. b/c my phone is defected. my phone cant tell when its connectedto my computer.. it just keeps charging and never gives me an option to use the usb mas storage. yeah i tried changing cables, using different computers, disable usb debugging, tried different roms, tried going to recovery and mounting my storage. nothing works.. my phone works perfectly with a custom rom. however, I cant connect to my computer.. my phone is not bricked it just wont connect to my computer. so im trying to go back fuclly stock with out using ODIN.. You might want to try out Mobile Odin

It's $3.99, but well worth it.. I think anyone messing with custom ROMs and rooting their phones should have this just in case.
I'd actually like a youtube tutorial on this same process. Mobile odin confuses me a bit after using pc odin for years on my vibrant.

You can technically create an update script to flash via CWM and flash everything but the bootloaders...
there are some more advanced ways to flash bootloaders manually.. but I wouldn't recommend it unless you REALLY know what you're doing.. You can brick your phone, so it's not even worth it. I'm not sure they can even see the bootloader version anyhow, so it doesn't really matter.

You don't need root access to flash the kernel, since you would still be on custom recovery. So yeah flash a stock unrooted rom, then proceed to flash a stock kernel with stock recovery.

Or if for some strange reason it doesn't work in that order just flash the stock kernel first (it won't change until you reboot) then flash the stock rom without root.

So the only close enough to stock rom that i found is this one should i use this one ????? damme this is a headache http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415924
You could also use terminal emulator on the phone and run the script from sfhub thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728) to install stock EG30+stock recovery, and run unroot script straight from the phone. Then just use file explorer to delete the 000root directory.
Since your phone wont recognize the computer you can always copy the files over by using a sd card reader.
So i went to the sprint store...and i told the tech support guy that my phone was not connecting to my computer and he took a quick look at my phone and said did you rooted??? and i frozed and he continued, if you rooted your phone then thats the problem. i told him that it was more of a hardware issue not a software...he wasnt even paying attention to me.. he just said stop messing with the phones if u dont know how to how to fix them.. i was so madd i felt like throwing him my phone at his face.. but then i thought to my self.. my phone is not messed up.. it just doesnt recognize my phone.. plus i got the XDA community..

Wow... i just even did a dial code hard reset of the phone and i'm still having the same issue --- ughhhhhh frustrating
Just take your phone into sprint with it rooted. The first thing they will do is return it to full stock to see if that solves the problem. Sprint's policy is to service all phones rooted or not. Just expect it unrooted when they hand it back.

Have you used Odin before? Perhaps to root your phone?
Do you have the USB drivers installed on your computer? If not, it would probably be a lot easier to flash one of the stock builds from the development section.

You have to be very careful following this guide because if something goes wrong you could hard brick your phone.
By the way, you will lose all of your settings so you should probably backup before you attempt this.

You have to install either TWRP or CWM to make a backup. You don't really need to, though. Unless you want to be able to bring your phone back to where it is now if you don't like jellybean. Installing a new recovery is similar to installing the new jb update.
The first link I pm'ed was for the firmware and the second link was for the Odin program to flash the firmware to your phone.
No, you should not be needing Kies.

It will replace the whole ROM, so I think your data will be erased. I am not sure about the unlock, but others have said the unlock survives a ROM change.

First we will get TWRP installed. Use this guide as a reference http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s2/how-to-root-icsgb-on-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989/
Turn off your phone. Hold volume up and volume down and plug it into your computer. Now follow the steps in the guide above using the odin program I sent you and the TWRP file. You only need to go up to number 6.
After it reboots, shut your phone off and then hold volume up and volume down and the power button until you feel it vibrate and let go of the power button. You should now be in TWRP where you click backup. Click the check-boxes for everything but internal sdcard. You can also change the backup name to make it easier to keep track. Then just swipe to backup. Don't worry if the screen turns off, it is supposed to do that to save battery.
Once you get that done we can start on the next thing.
Where do I get twrp from and do I use it on my phone or pc?

No. I have pictures and music and all SD card contents dating back to the time I bought the phone and I used Odin last week to return to stock.

No, but you may need to factory reset, which would delete all the files in your device..
There are possible ways trying to get around this, but its safer to just back up your important files in case something unexpected happens

Don't know, often times that means a factory reset might be needed, but can you tell me what happened to it? There may be other ways to fix it

Hmm.. Ok try flashing firmware with Odin, if that doesn't fix it then flash twrp recovery and reboot to recovery, after that do a factory reset within twrp.. This will perform a factory reset without wiping user files.. Reboot and it should boot up
Edit: oh and yes I know, wish it was mine :/

Right, but you're not flashing a rom, you're flashing firmware.. You could also just flash a rom, but I don't know how your buddy wants his device
Bro I love m3's!! Been in love with them since day one.. I just have that display pic because it looks nice lol

Alright well here goes nothing!
Hopefully when im done with my e36 ill be chasing those e90s
EDIT: When i attempt to flash with odin it says <OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1) and the phone says odin flash write faliure
What firmware version did you try to flash? If it was ever updated to 4.3 you can only ever flash the same or newer firmware again. So if it had been updated to NC2 before, you can only flash NC2 firmware. (Latest version). If this doesn't apply, you might want to try reinstalling drivers. Also, only use Odin v3.07 or 3.09.
You can try to odin flash twrp recovery though, then make a nandroid backup to be safe. It also has a built in file manager and you can use it to copy the picture folder from internal to external sd card.

I downloaded the latest 4.3 and tried to flash that but didnt work im not sure what the phone had before and can i flash the twrp recovery if the phone wasnt rooted?
Yes, you can flash a custom recovery without root. Its actually the original root method if I'm not mistaken. (Flash recovery, then from that recovery flash the SuperSU update zip. )
Since youre using the latest firmware, we know that's not the cause at least.
Few other things that are known to cause Odin to fail...
Make sure you are using the correct firmware for the device. (Make sure if its a T999, T999L, T999N, T999V and use the corresponding firmware)
If kies is on your computer, uninstall it
Try different usb cables, yes they quite often do go bad.
Try every usb port on your computer. I've seen more than a few people find it only worked on one usb port! No idea why...
Try different driver versions. Make sure you uninstall through device manager. Drivers are in my sig.
If all else fails, try a different computer if possible.
If I think of anything else ill add it.

Yup, everything Doc said.. Double check firmware or Odin may be a little picky

I tried what you guys said and none of it worked and then i tried to install a recovery through odin and that worked. Through recovery I tried to install a zip firmware that i got from another firmware and now the phone does not start at all no boot screen no download mode no nothing. Is it fully gone now?

Firmware or ROM? And what zip is this you're talking about? Can you get into recovery? If not then you might have bricked it

I used this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2403060 at the bottom of the first post
and yeah no recovery
but when i plug it into my computer it beeps like if something just was plugged in
That thread is pretty old and I think that was for LJA, if the phone was updated to 4.3 and you tried that it makes sense that it would brick.. Does it give you message in the connected devices?
