Does anyone else have issues when trying to download pictures from your phone? It seems ungodly slow and since it now uses MTP, I can't pull pictures straight into Picasa. Any thoughts or ideas on what I could do to fix or enhance it?

No, I don't really have any ideas on how to enhance it but I don't have this problem either? What rom are you using? Are you Rooted/Unlocked?
I guess it wasn't so slow to transfer, 1.3gb over about 10 minutes (give or take). I think what really gets me is that it takes a few minutes for my picture directory to fully realize on my desktop, several minutes for the 1k+ files to be listed properly and then I have to copy them over to my PC since I can't mount my phone as a usb drive anymore.
On Lifeless v14 right now.

Wondering if anybody has ever had this issue...
Last night I know for a fact that all my pics were in tact b/c I was moving some wallpapers and some downloaded pics around. Today I opened my gallery up (running MIUI) and nearly every pic from every album was missing. I rebooted and when I looked again, each album (folder) said it had the right amount of pics in it but when I opened each of them up, they were still mostly missing. I plugged my phone into the pc thinking they would show up then, but much to my surprise they truly are gone. There's no way I could have deleted so many pics from so many folders on accident.
Anybody else heard of this? Is there a way to use one of the cache folders to restore them? The other strange thing is I'm 99% sure my SD card still shows the same amount of memory available as it did when the pics were there. WTF???
Thanks for your help!
Happened to me before. Just once. Lost some good memories.
On stock Rom.

Have you tried restoring a recent backup? That could easily fix it. Also, I'm personally not aware of this problem. =o

Yeah, I restored my last back up from 2 days ago... no luck. It's so strange b/c again, when I first pulled up the gallery, it said 100MEDIA had 148 pics in it. But when I opened the folder up, there was only the 28 that I have left. The other 120 are where??? How would the folder know that there are/were 148 files in there if they aren't hidden somewhere????
I've manually searched the whole SD card with no luck. Are they gone for good??
I had the same freakin issue once.. go to market and download sdrescan app its free.. let it do its thing and all your pics should come back to life! It worked for me and I'm running cm6..

Currently stock with the exception of unlocked/rooted. Win 7, 64 bit.
For whatever reason my phone just does not like to transfer pictures or videos from my desktop to the internal memory. I highlighted 30+ pics from a desktop folder and pasted into the pictures and dcim folder on separate occasions and it does about 9-10 of them then freezes. I cancel the window and the GNEX is frozen "loading." Most of the time i cant open it in Computer either. It does the same thing with a video to the root of the memory.
I've tried in smaller batches, 1 at a time, nothing makes a difference.
I was able to transfer 30+ songs to the music folder without a hitch though.
Ideas?
Try reinstalling the drivers?
Try different drivers. I'm using the ones that come with pdanet. I've uninstalled pdanet but the drivers stay loaded. Works great for me. Win 7 64 bit is fast.
My Linux distro running in a VM is slow. Actually I should say it's fast but has a lot of prep time. Will spend 90 seconds "preparing" and very few transferring. That is something I have to work on.

Trying now..
So it definitely was NOT a driver issue. Uninstalled and reinstalled every way possible and it did not make a difference. I ended up using adb and pushing all the stock files to the phone again and its working great now.

There really isn't enough info on this. It was driving me nuts so I spent a long time googling and eventually learned that this is a known issue with ICS's implementation of the MTP protocol.
It has been fixed in 4.0.3. So make that upgrade and this problem will go away forever.
or switch to airdroid.
So i'll make it short, my friend accidently deleted a folder of my DCIM and most of my pics taken and not yet backed up is gone.
I've searched for recovery softwares and all of them require a mass storage mounted to recover them. so with Gnex uses MTP, i am totally screwed am I?
Does anyone have any linux method to mount this thing, and recover the files? Got many pics and 3 videos in it.
I feel like crying...
are you on mac?
IDK if you are screwed, but if you had a dropbox account and beta app - it automatically uploads your pictures to drop box...
It is actually an official app now.

uurgh thats one of my regrets, i turned it and the google + auto upload off as i am on a limited data subscription.
You probably can't recover the pictures.

For future reference, leave auto-upload on, but only let it upload on WiFi. That way you get some backup happening still....

Thanks man. I really do hope we can mount USB storage on Gnex someday. though it has low probability of happening.
Would really love to see that happen in the near future. But as someone suggested, leave it to wi-fi only. I have that set up and you won't even have to worry about anything. All automatic from there. Haven't tried dropbox yet, but I might. I'll let you know how it works if you want.
i set it up both. just in case~
Just transferring say one music album takes like ten minutes. I have a good router, I put my phone one foot from it and it's still going at a snail's pace.
Tried using ES Files Explorer and X-plorer and the same result. Is it a problem with the phone do both those apps just have sh*tty wifi transfer speeds?

I kinda ruled that out because I can copy to from a Windows laptop WAY faster, like 4MB/s compared to less than 1MB/s or god knows what on this phone.

I have this issue too. I use SSHDroid on my phone, and connect via SSHFS from Linux. I get around 1mb/s average this way, when my computer is on Ethernet (slower if it is on wifi). I'm running CM 10.1 nightly on AT&T S3. I'll give it a try on Windows at some point, but so far I haven't found anything that helps. I tried reformatting the card with different cluster sizes too, with no noticeable change.
Airdroid is fast enough for me

Ok guys. I'm about to loose my Damn mind. I probably have 5 hours invested into this simple task and haven't succeeded. All I want to do is back up all my files and can't get it to work. When I try to transfer everything I either get stuck with a window saying it is calculating time to transfer, get a few folders to transfer but none of their contents and have it just stop, or I get some folders and not contents with any number of different errors saying the files aren't in the right format (don't remember the other 4 messages I got. I tried 3 cables and every USB port on my desktop all with the same results. I then tried copying everything over wifi via airdroid. I got it going and left it for a hour or 2 and it said it finished. However the zip file it downloaded was only 4.9gb instead of 7.3gb (how much stuff I have on my phone) so I figured it just compressed it. I tried to unzip it, and just my luck, I get an error saying it can't unzip it and I can't even open it just to view the contents. I'm about to loose my mind. Anyone got any suggestions to help me out?
Pc: 64bit 8.1 pro

Oh and a side note, I can send files from my pc to my phone with my cables, yet can't go the other way around.....

I've observed that when I've got my phone connected to my PC via USB that my PC won't load the file structure unless I unlock the phone. Usually, once it's been unlocked while connected, everything works fine; However, sometimes I find that the phone's gone back to sleep and the data transfer stalls out after the phone's lockscreen kicks back in. You might try disabling your lockscreen and see if that has any effect for you, but I really have no idea if it will help. Good luck.
Yeah I tried that stuff too :/ I disabled my pattern lock, tried disabling and re-enabling USB debugging, made it so my wifi never sleeps, made it so my phone doesn't sleep when charging, disabled my live wallpaper. Nada, still got zilch

It sounds like you're just trying to transfer too much at one time. Have you tried transferring just one folder? If it works when you transfer just one folder over, you can transfer a couple at a time instead of all of it at once. Good luck
