Is anyone able to tell me or fi d out why the S3 is incapable of taking full 8 megapixel panoramas? Its not a hardware issue. Both the camera and phone have strong enough hardware to do so. So why is the software limited? Size? Not really an issue. Is there a camera fix/mod that fixes this issue? Not looking to run another app that claims to and doesn't. Tried plenty.

The 4.2 camera with photosphere is capable of doing it. Our S3 do not have 4.2 yet but there are plenty if camera mods out there from the 4.2 you just have to be rooted to flash it. You can technically run both camera apps on your device. Keep in mind the gallery for the 4.2 camera is directly linked to the camera so if you run both you either only use the 4.2 gallery or use 2 galleries. I'll try to find a link for you.
Here this link should get you the camera.

Goodnes Reborn ROM has the Note 2 camera (Slow motion video recording, panorama, best face, etc.) AND the 4.2.2 Camera (Photosphere, etc.). Panoramas are excellent quality. Photosphere is pretty sick too.

I'm on stock 4.2 JB rooted and unlocked bootloader and all.
I hate the 4.2 camera. It's plain lame. I get it that the photosphere thing is nice, but it takes a lot of patience to get a decent pic. So, meh....not a big fan. The controls are OK..convenient settings instead of going thru 5 steps to adjust the exposure etc is good. But what I miss the most is live zoom in option. Its there in the 4.1.2 in video mode. Allows you to zoom in while taking a video. Where's that in the 4.2 camera? Also, I've noticed that the camera has become laggy. Doesn't focus as well as the 4.1.2 app did. I could really take at least 10 pics within 3-4 seconds..all with decent focu...but this thing does take 8-10 photos but all crappy and out of focus. Anyone else face this issue? Anywhoo....the bottom line is I hate the 4.2 camera. To each his own. I love everything else about 4.2. How can I get just the 4.1.2 camera back? I tried to extract it from my nandroids and TiBu ...and install it.....but it force closes on me. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get the 4.1.2 camera app on 4.2?
Lot of times the ICS camera, JB camera got released on its own and I remember having the ICS camera on my Atrix 4G running GB.
Help me get rid of my 4.2 camera app and get 4.1.2 back.........
Thanks,
vG

pull the gallery and camera apks from a 4.1.2 rom and push the apks to system/app set permission to rw- r-- r--. (delete the 4.2 camera and gallery before moving the 4.1.2 apks)
zoom is still there in both camera and video format. just pinch out (is there a such a term?) and you can zoom

You are my favorite person for today. I feel soo dumb for not trying that. Thanks. But I still don't like it for the way it focuses.

So we have moved to the new base so much similar to S3 and I'm wondering if this is possible. I really want not to use 3rd party apps to fast burst
we don't have the required hw so no.
There is a custom app for it on market it takes this sort of stuffs,
the developer had an S2 when he demonstrated the video, its not the best but its something

Fast Burst Camera Light from the Play Store can take multiple pictures while holding the shutter button. Its not the same as the S3 but it still takes fast burst images.
I think sgs2's hardware would be capable of doing that

Iirc that just takes frames from the video feed. It doesn't take full frame captures like the S3 does.

The hardware is capable of taking burst shot pics at a low resolution, not that which we have grown used to with the standard issue single shot apps. The exynos 4 dual core is powerful, but 8 mega pixel stills at 60fps will bring it to its knees.

I'm running Cyanogenmod 10 now, but I really don't like the Android 4.1 (nor 4.2) camera app.
The 4.1 camera wastes a whole lot of viewfinder space for the on-screen capture button, while the 4.2 camera only does pictures up to 8 megapixels and it crashes when tapping the screen while recording videos (probably due to the Xperia S being unable to do touch-focus in video mode)
Therefore I'd like to know what the best, most functional camera app of the moment is, for Android.
I'd like to be able to take both stills and videos with the same app, as well as being able to switch scene modes and use other common settings.
And more importantly, it has to look right. I want to be able to access everything I need quickly and it should feel as if it were a stock app.
If anyone could help me and probably others too, It'd be greatly appreciated. :good:
Stock camera.
Maybe Lg Camera.

Just looking for a replacement camera app with better overall performance
- as a bonus, an app that can take advantage of photosphere? Looks like 360panarama doesn't work on the N4. Also, ability to upload to google maps is a nice bonus to handle sharing photosphere without google+?
I'm gonna guess I am at Google's mercy with all things photosphere though.
I'm looking for one with a self timer. Don't care about photosphere...

Don't need to install that ROM? Just install the APK?
The default camera app struggle way too much with the auto focus and just cant get it right in the first trial. Therefore, I use Camera FX Zoom as mentioned by people above too. Its a great app. Has timer.. Burst mode.. and focuses extremely quick and accurate.

They should have seriously fixed the camera auto focus and WiFi screen off in the Latest update. Who knows what went wrong with Google ...........

Hi,
I currently use this, Camera JB+: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tb2JseW54LmNhbWVyYWpicGx1cyJd
Simple, easy, looks like the stock camera app (with her own gallery), standard settings plus a bit more, perfect for my use...
2 reasons this thread has made my day
1. I'm not the only one with a focus bug using the stock camera pp
2. It introduced me to Camera Zoom FX, it's brilliant! (if you won't miss photosphere)

Here is the million dollar question though. Does it focus well with FLASH? Google really messed up with this damn camera. I swear up and down that the Nexus One had a better camera than this garbage they put in here. It's absolutely useless with flash. I can't use it at all!! Damn you Google!!?

My problem, in addition to the worst focusing ever, is that the camera software totally blows out anything I take a picture of with flash. Pictures of my friends make them look like highlighters!

I am still keeping the nexus one and I can confirm that the nexus 4 is "slightly" better than the nexus one in terms of camera performance.

That 28,700+ (now) number is the amount of open issues with Android in general, not the auto-focus.

Well, I love photosphere and I have got into the habit of taking them almost everywhere I go and then uploading to the google maps streetview project (which makes them easy to share in photosphere mode without google+).
But, I have to assume there isn't any camera app out there that can share to google maps other than Google's own. So, I still will be stuck with the stock app for at least that.

Could anyone compare the quality of pictures taken from this with the stock sense camera? Could switch to CM11 if the quality is good enough.

Sense camera take better picture, but this is best for stock android, with photosphere and new feature (Lens blur),might try that out!
Can someone do a real comparison? With samples. Also does HDR+ work? If not than the quality should be the same as any other camera on CM11. In other words not that great.

The HDR does work, however you have to hold the camera very still. The panorama and photosphere functions are too buggy for me to use (the app often crashes when rendering). The orientation sensors don't seem to work properly for photosphere or panorama mode, sometimes it acts as if the device is moving when it isn't.
Still, the HDR mode and lens blur work.
HDR+ on Nexus 5 is a hardware feature so I guess it was expected but I'm glad it works.
I tried before the apks of old Nexus camera and accelerometer was not working properly. That's OK as our CPUs do not have necessary power to render panoramas or photospheres quickly enough.
Can you post HDR+ samples vs normal ones?
Any chance of having this ported to other android versions?
How could we change the image size to widescreen like on sense?
