I would move on to the iPhone because I like timely updates and I really hate variants.

Anything with a removable battery and a MicroSD slot. One or the other, maybe, but at least one.

Whatever company uses the new Tegra 4 SoC in their phone. That's the one I want.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2

Probably the Moto X. Or some sort of Moto Maxx phone. I really prefer Moto's build quality to Sammy's. And at least it's close enough to stock.

whatever phone i could unlock the bootloader and be able to compile my own AOSP.

I'd buy all of the last nexus, phone, tab, phablet, (one of each of course), be happy, and hope they would last me until I'm too old to care about tech anymore.

At that point, I would start over and move to Tizen, since the people behind that OS will be hungry to chip away at Android's market share.
I'm not sure why people are saying they would go to iPhone. The only way iPhone can win my money is if they make a bigger phone and make their OS like Android except closed source.

Tough question... Samsung's designs - suck, they just copy each device
HTC phones don't have S-OFF anymore, which sucks, and they drop the support for their devices too early. Like, not even a year
I don't trust LG much, specifically - the quality
Motorola? They are under Google's wing, so only choice is "Moto X"
Others (Huawei, Meizu, Xiami, Oppo, ...) - are even worse regarding everything: battery life, specs, Android updates, etc.
Only Sony left, but their glassy devices (Xperia Z and its iterations) are a bummer, and Xperia's also tend to stay too far behind with OS version
and iPhone?
I'd better buy a good old Nokia N72 Symbian phone that get a crapPhone
Or just get a current nexus and be happy with it until it dies completely lok

A discussion about Multiple Nexus devices possibly being released next time around..

I have been reading that it's quite possible that the next batch of Nexus devices could be made by multiple companies. I was just curious as to what people thought of this and if this does happen which will you probably go with? I have always been big on Samsung but if HTC, Motorola, and Samsung all make their own version of the Nexus, I honestly don't know what I would do...What do you guys think about this? Do you think it will happen? Which do you think you would probably go with if this does happen?

Pretty sure there is a thread about this elsewhere, but to answer your question..... I'd go with Motorola all day long. Motorola's hardware is the best hands down, couple that with a open boot loader and toll be the best device we have seen yet.

Moto would be a good choice, but I'd be really tempted by Samsung or HTC. HTC especially, I've had a few of their devices and loved them all, but Sammy has that amazing SAMOLED screen and it's hard going from it to any other screen. Definitely interesting and hopefully true.
I looked and didn't see anything... I was actually leaning more towards Motorola myself. They made solid phones. I'm not big on HTC.. Many ppl like the way they build phones but I like the plastic look. Also Motorola is known for better reception..I've read a lot about how they make best radios.. Looking very forward to it!! Love my Nexus devices!

I think if Motorola would make it, it word go perfect with slcd2, omap5, nice 3500 battery, and thin.

Motorola for sure. Kind miss my og. I have had Sammy HTC and moto. And my of droid was great in its prime.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
If only moto and sammy would team up.
Sammy screens, Moto battery tech, Vanilla AOSP Jelly bean or Kandy Kane, both can build slim devices, Moto radios (best in the biz)...maybe some styling from HTC (I always thought my rezound was kind of sexy/classy...for a fat girl). 4.6 to 4.8" screen. 3000mah slim battery....carbon kevlar the whole phone minus the glass and leave it the natural yellowish/greenish/black color. NFC....
I've thought of a way Moto could make their slim batteries like in the Razr and Maxx, removable....but it's hard to explain. (Quick detach I'm implying, not how they are currently removable).
And for heaven's sake at least 32gb since we all know Google won't allow an SD card on a Nexus device. Maybe even a wacom screen like the Note.....
The multiple nexii idea is unrealistic, it would kill the whole meaning of the nexus series, there's also the issue of who will get updates first and who will be issuing the updates, google or oems... we've already witnessed how the cdma gnex contributed to the fragmentation problem, multiple nexii would do the same.
In addition, i hope the next nexus won't have an over saturated and contrasted oled display, i think we should look up to the one x standards.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Well whatever Google decides to go with for the next Nexus...please no Tegra 3. Yes a lot of games are "optimized & compatible" for Teg3 but honestly I think there are better options out there.
hope not...cuz i might hv to get all of them cuz nexus are awesome!!!
I don't believe we will see several new Nexus phones this year. What has been said is that there might be 4-5 nexus devices released this year, right? Well, we already know about two of those: the Nexus 7 and the Nexus Q (although the latter has been delayed). A new phone brings that number up to three, and the fourth device could possibly be a larger tablet (?). Not sure what else there could possibly be, but again, I don't believe there will be more than one new phone.
I think the next nexus will be made by Google.... They own Motorola mobility now so I'm guessing Google will be releasing there own
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I can't imagine it being made by anyone but Samsung at this point, honestly. I'd love to see HTC make one, personally. I'm not sure about the other variants, but the HTC OneX (or OneS?) on T-Mobile is absolutely wonderful, physically. It's got that metallic feel that the Nexus One had. I like that a lot more than slick plastic.
I'd love a moto nexus. When it comes to quality hardware ie. Antennas, moto is the best

Not likely. Motorola still operates as its own entity, not as a hardware division of Google, and Google has publically stated that they won't give Motorola preferential treatment like that. The other OEMs would not be happy if they did. So Motorola has the same chances as everyone else (which in my opinion means it's pretty unlikely they will get to make the next Nexus).
its either Motorola or Samsung.. i dont think google would choose HTC (again) or Sony..

To me I am thinking jb>sense ui but on the other hand they said for one x, jb is coming out and jb on a quad core sounds crazy.

Don't do it. The nexus may not have the same specs as the one x but it delivers a superior experience due to vanilla android vs HTC sense. That and JB may be the last update the one x sees where as the nexus probably has few more in line.

Personally, I wouldn't even do the trade for sale and profit. The quality control of the gnex varies somewhat. Mine has a good screen, overclocks well, and seems loud enough. IMO, if you have a good one, keep it. If you have a not-so-good one, go for it.

You guys are right. I have a perfect gem galaxy nexus with no problems with perfectly calibrated screen, and battery is amazing. I am currently at 43% percent battery life with 17h so far with almost 50 percent screen on time just with random kernel and no display tweaks. Going to do this guide to make it even more better http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599025 . I am astonished. I told him I am going to hold it off for now. I am prolly going to look for another galaxy nexus to buy and then do that and maybe do a side to side comparison. Then make profit .

basically this. then you can even get an accessory for the Nexus after. you know, if you're into that kind of thing.
Do you like listening to music on your phone? If so, steer clear of anything that HTC have made in the last 2 years. They have a serious design flaw in the way they've been shielding their audio chip set, so there is a real problem with line noise. You get this low hissing sound in the background of every track. I had to ditch my One X cause it was giving me headaches.

After owning it for 15 months, the nexus experience with this phone has been so different compared to the nexus one and not in a good way. My next device will need to have a huge battery, an amazing camera and a Full HD screen. If Google releases a nexus with these features then I'll be getting a nexus, if not I'm jumping ship.

I bought my GSM Galaxy Nexus at 11 May 2012
when my HTC HD2 finally crash and unable to boot into ROM.
At that time, this mobile phone costs HKD3513
and I think it is balance of price and performance.
Best phone for me. Truly All in one and has no analogs. Only 2 cons: missing SD card slot, PenTile OLED. Pros: fast TI OMAP with great battery life, RGB led indicator, tonns of ROMs and future support from Google, OLED, USB Host, HDMI and many others... Choose between Nexus 3 and 4. But LG's has no USB Host, has worse battery cover and I dont like Qualcomm
That time, it was the first phone with the all new Android 4. It also had a big screen, software buttons and a very nice notification light

I didn't choose. I was sent two Galaxy Nexuses by Verizon to replace two HTC Thunderbolts (each of which had been replaced themselves several times) because they would constantly drop all data connections. Nexus. 'Nuff said. I see people talking in other threads about how the nexus line isn't what it used to be, if we don't get KLP they won't ever buy Nexus again, they'll buy iPhones or other Android phones. I don't know about everyone else, but I didn't buy a Nexus looking for updates FROM GOOGLE. I bought it because it is THE easiest phone to develop for, with probably the largest development community. I wouldn't be shocked to get 2 more updates from the awesome devs here at XDA. The nexus line isn't a "Give me updates" line. It is a development line.
Upgraded from O.G. Droid to the Galaxy Nexus, so for me it was upgrading 4G and getting another pure Android device. I'm on Verizon and I personally think the development for this phone is outstanding, just like it was for the O.G. Droid. I will always have a Nexus device, I just hope Verizon will keep getting some type of Nexus device.

I'm sorry but the nexus one was advertised as a developers phone. The Galaxy Nexus was not, Google geared the Galaxy Nexus towards consumers and they did the same with the Nexus 4 and the Nexus line of tablets. Don't tell me this is a developer phone and expect that to make up for its downfalls.

It may not have been advertised as a developer phone but google designs their nexus devices to be easily modded and developed on. Just because they wanted it to be easily usable by every day consumers doesn't mean it's not a development device. I think for most developers/rooters, that is the big draw of this and all other nexus phones. And I'm sure for many, that does make up for it's downfalls. I personally see no downfalls with the phone, I've had nothing but a great experience with it in all aspects other than sprint's service, which is no fault of the device itself.

Should I buy the Galaxy Nexus?

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting a new phone and my requirements were:
1GB RAM
4.3+ inch screen
720p display.
The Galaxy Nexus caught my eye as it has all those things. I don't have a huge budget (£150, or €175, $225)But I am slightly concerned. Firstly because it is an old piece of kit. Now, that doesn't bother me if it performs well and gets the latest updates, but that's what I am worried about. Secondly because of Dev Support. I need a phone that will be supported for at least a year.
Please tell me what I should do. I am willing to buy a used device. If you think I should get something else, please let me know as to what device you are thinking.
Thanks!
Don't buy this phone.

Extend your budget go for a Nexus 4 or maybe wait for the next Nexus. Galaxy Nexus is a great phone but let's face it, it's been around for a while... And I doubt if it'll get official updates for the coming year
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If you want it, then buy an extended battery with it and IMHO one should also buy the charging port flex board which may stop working anytime.
Whether or not it gets official updates, it will receive the custom ROMs. But then again why would you go for a 2 year old product?
Get the n4 or the n5 when it releases
Get the s4 or wait for new nexus at end of year.

Go for nexus 4.....though I'm not saying that Galaxy Nexus is not good, but it has now become somewhat old and won't get support from Google as Nexus 4 will get. Though you always will have support from the custom ROMs....but not stock ROM from Google itself.....so go for Nexus 4 rather than GN.

The n4 is old as well, considering the new nexus will be out in a few months, the n4 has been a blunder from day one an forgotten about due to its terrible launch an unavailability, so people just decided to boycott it an skip it altogether, lg have even said themselves it wasn't on the list of priorities to get that phone out, I don't think google would bother asking lg a second time to make another nexus with that kind of poor effort or attitude.

So here I am.
I have been watching a load of videos comparing it to Samsung flagships, HTC flagships and some weird devices made by a fruit company. The hardware has EVERYTHING I want for my upgrade. Almost double every spec to my current phone. My only concern is updates. Does this device have 4.2.2 Officially? Will there be 4.3 and 5.0 for it unofficially, if not officially? I need it to last for a year.
If you can answer my questions, I will be extremely grateful. My other option is the Xperia S, but it costs too much, bigger camera then I need and no official 4.1
Thanks Again!
Android 4.2.2 is officialy suported on the galaxy nexus and 4.3 will normally be that too but for 5.0 nobody knows.
And yeah I love the phone and it's getting old but it is still a good phone

I am unimpressed with the G3, and plan on shipping it back tomorrow. The "amazing" screen looks like garbage next to my iphone 5s. I'm holding out for the Nexus 6.

BTW The iPhone 5s has a 640p screen I.e. not even standard HD which is 720p and the S5 is 1080p so I hope it looks better. I never understood iphones 'retina' anyway. To me it's more of a marketing ploy but I digress.
The N6 isn't really confirmed or even leaked so we may not know until right before a possible release. I would stick with the G3 and or read through the topic I linked above.

I say get a g3 its a sick phone and if you don't like it just sell it and buy a nexus 6 when it comes out.

If you are a nexus fanboy I'd say wait because the nexus 6 could very possibly be the very last nexus phone.
Get the g3. I have the n4 and had the n3. Wasn't too interested in the n5. One thing I am certain is that the n6 will NOT have a sdcard

Nexus phone never worked on Verizon, i.e., they are all GSM only, right? Otherwise I'll consider it.

Why not both? Buy and enjoy the G3 now and sell it when the N6 comes out. You can probably sell it for near the price of the N6.

I've had almost all the NEXUS phones, the last two really didn't impress me at all. Too much compromise in the software for the "pure Android" experience. It might have been cool a couple years ago when manufacturers would bloat the phone down like crazy, well... Samsung's TouchJizz is still a major offender but other manufactures have really slimmed and optimized their UI's while adding a ton of useful features. It's now to the point where I feel pure Android is lacking way too much. Also I never had a good camera experience nor good battery life with ANY of my Nexus phones. It also seems like Nexus devices uses lower end components to meet their price quota, lower quality LCD panels, lower binned CPU/GPU's that thermal throttle like crazy, mediocre camera sensors, small batteries ect...
No more Nexus phones for me, unless they release something really extraordinary but I really doubt it with their budget price cap. After owning both the Nexus 5 and G2, it was incredible how much better the G2 was in everything from software, battery life, screen quality and camera. The G2 just seemed way better engineered and thought out, sure it was "almost" twice as much off contract as the Nexus 5 but this really was a case of "you get what you pay for".
I came from the Nexus 5 to G3 couldn't be more happy! Had enough of terrible battery life from the Nexus 5, will not be getting a Nexus phone ever again.

Agreed, I was also pretty unimpressed by both the Nexus 4 and 5. So the OP should just go ahead and get the G3 now. Then he can wait for the N6 release, and when everyone and their mother has reviewed it to death and found any faults, he can then proceed by selling the G3 and buying the N6 if he think it's worth it That's my plan anyway.
i have the n5 as well..it wont last me not even 2 hours...just using instagram snapchat..texts and facebook..sometimes browsing..ive had the n4 before and i dont think i will get the n6..as far as i heard..it is going to have a 5.2 screen..no sd..no ir blaster..the battery will suck..non removable battery it will probably not top out the g3

Iv seen a Nexus 6 on Craigslist for $600. Im thinking, my G3 is everything that is. Im running Lollipop fast and stable. The display isnt as big but 6" is too much for pocket
Resolution and pixel count are on par. Ram and Rom is on par, plus I can add micro sd and change battery. I love my G3 and Im on freakin Verizon. G3 is the best phone out right now....
