Both your PC and Phone must be connected to a WiFi server in order to use the "Throw" feature ( streaming music, videos, pictures over WiFi)

the video tells all about this product and shows how great that it does work. its overall very snappy and you couldnt ask for more than what the seagate offers. at the time of the video they were on sale through seagates website for 34.99 and are now priced at 39.99. They can be found here:

I don't need it because I know a way to use the wifi network to share your media libraries and stream the media to your phone. It's way better. I also can do it through Bluetooth.
So it can access the files anywhere? Cause this would be awesome to use with my Epic. I got alot of videos and music on my laptop. So if I was on my 3G network, I can wirless stream my music and videos?
No, wifi and Bluetooth only.

and forgot to mention in the desktop dversion of pogoplug you can check an option to have your ps3 and your xbox 360 discover the music and videos and whatever else you may have on your external/s
How exactly does it work? Is there a server?

It works as a virtual drive. I have one and it is very useful in the house since I dont have to connect my hardrive to anything in order to access it. another useful thing i do with is transfer files...my brother has the password to it so he downloaded the desktop plugin. Now whenever we want to show each other a movie or song...we just copy and paste the file onto the virtual drive like we would a folder on our computer and we have full access to the newly uploaded content...
the only draw back is in playback of your movies and music when not on the same network...it takes a while to load, and you have to deal with constant buffering.

Hi All,
Does Xperia Play support DLNA, because I see it as listed in gsmarena but nothing in Google on how to configure and stream via DLNA.
Anyone tried it and use DLNA to stream video / game / photos.
The phone is awesome but lack to HDMI or TV Out means the only option is to stream via DLNA if it supports, can someone confirm.

We have an app called Media Server ("Servidor de Medios" for me) and I believe it let's you play movies/music/images. I haven't tried it once since I stream directly from my PC to my PS3.
But forget about games, it's been discussed a lot that people is disappointed because we can't play our games in a bigger screen.
So yes, we have DLNA but it won't let you stream your screen. It'll let other devices connect to it and play media files on your phone.
Hi netorino,
Thanks for the reply, so we can stream movies and photos is it, that is still good enough.
Where I can try this app, I couldn't find it in the Android market.
I would want to try this and see how it works.

It's pre-installed. I'm not 100% sure on the english name but that should be it.
The way I do it on PC-PS3: Activate software on PC to let streaming. Go on PS3 and look for videos and search for new devices (every time) then it'll show me the hard drive and I'll browse through the folders.
I'm thinking it's the same thing. Open the software on the phone to activate it, it'll probably have some instructions on what to do. Hope it works for you!

You were right, it's just called media server
@maddy- which version of the play do you have?
Sent from my R800x using Tapatalk
Mine is Xperia Play R800i, it does not have either "Media Server" installed.
Is it only available in the US versions?
BTW, mine is an Unlocked from UK and running 2.3.4.

Used to be called Media Server (in 2.3.3) but now - for me at least on an unbranded/sim-free UK R800i on 2.3.4 - look for an App installed called Connected Devices
We can also stream to our phones (from say a WD TV Live, or a PC) - use "ES File Explorer" (lan - and search for your WD's IP) and stream via "VPlayer".
I use this method to stream .mkv files from my WD TV Live in my living room via my router to watch movies on my phone in my bedroom - works great .
The only issue I have is that vplayer is not free, and you can't stream via MoboPlayer (I don't think it buffers, it tries to download the whole movie). So if anyone knows any free media player that lets you strem (buffer) .mkv files then let me know.
I you want to stream from your phone to another device there are various free apps you can use; BubbleUPNP, Connected devices (preinstalled), and softMedia player
Thanks
there is a Connected Devices thing, I will give it a try today.
Try this http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produ...our-images-in-a-big-screen-with-vscreens-com/
but you can only view images and videos..
It is great, but if the TV does not have the WiFi then it wont work fine, but for Laptop and to stream to desktop computers this is great indeed.
I was wondering if it would be posible to make my PC play music from a player or streaming site after it detects that I am home. I was thinking it would detect my phone is on my wifi network then start playing music. I tried Google but maybe I am just not using the right keywords.
tasker.dinglisch.net
You can do a lot more than just play music when you get home. Must have app for anyone with root.

Dear all,
I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y750 with windows 7. I tried to send music from my Sony Xperia ZL using the Throw feature. But the phone says "could not connect to the device". Both Laptop and smartphone are on the same wireless network. I followed the instruction here http://tech2.in.com/how-to/lifestyle/how-to-set-up-dlna-on-your-devices/294842/1#story and after pressing the Start button and then typing Media streaming options my phone is not on the list of devices.Any clue which is the problem here?
thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. I ll try them out. But do you guys have any idea of what is wrong with the "throw"feature? That is by far more convenient, I just click throw on my phone and I can instantaneously see videos, listen music or see pictures on my pc. No need to install app on the phone (moreover you have to install something on the laptop). Moreover you can also throw to a wifi TV. It is written on the Sony website that the laptop has to be DLNA compliant. How can I check that on my laptop? It is a pretty recent laptop with windows 7, I thought it should be DLNA.
Laptops are pretty hard to setup for DLNA actually throw feature is used for. DLNA certified products like music system, bluray players...etc etc..so fr laptop better use some app they work juat fine

Hi All,
I have a question which I looked everywhere but didn't get any answers, so I registered to ask the same.
I have Laptop with Win 7 and Mobile Note 2. I have connected them through Bluetooth and I can play on mobiles and listen songs on Laptop. Now, I want to do vice versa, so it means that I want to play songs or videos on laptop and want sound to be played from Mobile. Please let me know if this is possible and there is a way of doing the same.
Regards,
Gaurav

I dont know about Bluetooth but Samsung Link Application installed on the Note II will do just that through the WIFI simply by rgistering your PC at Link.Samsung.com and downloading another application on your PC.
