I was on Viper 3.7.0 (JB) and want to go back to Viper 2.6.0 (ICS) to test something, but when flashed the rom the touch not working at all, just hardware buttons. Flashed 3.7.0 again and everything is ok. Tried another ICS rom but it is the same. What is the problem? Tried with both CWM (PhilZ) and TWRP recovery.
That's because of the updated touch drivers in the latest releases... You can't do anything about it AFAIK! ICS Custom roms are based on older firmware, so touch might not be working!
So it is not possible to revert back from JB to ICS and fully working?
It would be possible on a S-OFF device I suppose!
Flash old firmware and downgrade and then flash ics!
If i restore ICS from nandroid backup from this thread (my CID is HTC__032), will that do the trick? Or, can i run ICS RUU if i'm on 1.39 Hboot?
U cannot downgrade hboot. That means no working ics on a hox with newer hboot. I think you can try cm10 with your hboot.
Think that cm10 will work? Will try later.

Yes, it should... give it a try! :good:
But i think cm10 is JB too? I need to revert to ICS to test voip programs (Viber, Skype), because have problems with mic on JB, other side hear me very bad, with low level sound, distortion and robotic sound. On ICS everything was ok.
Sorry I derped. Cm9 is ics and is not quite stable for our hox afaik.

Having come from flashing SGS have read up as much as I can regarding flashing the HOX.
Have held back having a crack at a custom ROM until Jellybean update arrives on stock, to see how it runs.
However, if I do upgrade to stock Jellybean (which would have a new HBOOT?) would it still be possible to load AOSP Rom after.
If i've read correctly, unless I have a Nandroid backup of a custom ROM (whether it be Jellybean or ICS), the new HBOOT will prevent an ICS based ROM but custom Jellybean should be ok?

It's a confusing, ill-explained situation a lot of people are confused about.
From what i understand, when upgrading to JellyBean (including the upgraded hboot), you can STILL flash ICS custom roms & nandroid back ups. However, what you will be unable to do is flash any sort of Ice cream sandwich RUU's. This is because, the upgraded hboot will cause errors in the installation (considering the hboot version in the RUU, will be of a totally different earlier version).
Hope this clears it up a little bit.
Hello Everyone,
I'm a bit of a noob on android(I've only had 2 Droids,X10 and HOX till now and only know the basics of flashing ROMs and such :victory.I wanted to know, when we're flashing JB ROMs,such as insertcooin,ARHD 17 etc, do we have to flash "firmware"/change the HBOOT if we've already OTA updated to stock jelly bean(I unrooted when stock jelly bean was about to come out).
Thanks in advance,
Robin
TL;DR version  if I've updated to stock OTA JB,do I need to flash firmwares/change HBOOT before flashing ARHD 17,Insertcoin,maximus etc?
No, you're good to go.
Actually... Yes. Sometimes the devs make modifications. With the sense roms you can usually get away with it. But it's good habit to flash the boot.img that comes with the rom as well.

He said hboot, not boot.img.

Can gb/ics//JB roms be flashed directly from recovery? I have a 2.x something recovery.
Thanks.
Hello there, I will suggest you firstly update to a newer recovery I suggest using goomanager to install twrp its a great touch based recovery. Once u get a newer recovery back everything up a nandroid backup . After I would suggest tinys cm10.1 its the newest android yet running on well any phone lol umm it has its kinks buts its mostly perfect. Umm yea u will be able to flash straight from recovery

Hello ...
two days ago i've unlocked and flashed custom kernel & rom (Super JB) on device Arc S LT18. I, and don't know why, used Flashtools to recover to 2.3.4 and after that installed the mentioned rom (yes i've cleared all). Now the device only boots if i use Menu + Power button. What the hell ? If i only use the power button, the green light flashes and nothing else (no boot). DO i need a clean wipe and all over again? Maybe i must flash original kernel 5.4. ?
After flashing the ROM in recovery, did you flash the patch for your device as mentioned in the installation instructions?

yes, i've flashed the patch after the rom. I really don't know what happened, was it the flashed kernel (that is the first time i've encounter the problem) ? or maybe that i've installed a stock rom (2.3.4) and didn't boot the device (and then proceed with the custom installation) ? or maybe it's the kernel, because i've flashed the Super Fusion and not the fusion 5.4
now i've installed the official CyanogenMod 10.2, but can't seem to fix this bug
oh yea and all the browsers keep on crashing

you need to flash ics stock firmware 4.04 first then you can flash custom kernel then custom JB rom
jb rom cant's be flashed on gingerbread 2.3.4 roms, you have to be on stock ics 4.04

What difference does it make, if both kernel and /system partition are completely formatted anyway?

its your choice mate if you want to be on GB rom then flash gb 2.3.4 or if you want to be on ICS then flash ics 4.04 stock rom
but if you want to flash JB custom roms then you need to flash ics stock rom first.
you can either reover to ICS or GB via flashtool its upto you
well the cm 10.2 works really good and maybe i will test cm 11 (or any custom rom from 4.2 above). so i will try your suggestion and see what happens.
EDIT: well the stock browser crashed today -.-' ... will have to test further ... and the strange boot is kinda fixed (it was my fault because i didn't pushed the power button long enought lol)
EDIT 2: stock browser simply force close everytime i use it. google play store doesn't work well :/
Hi, i have an HOX endeavoru with hboot 1.72, i was trying to flash an old ICS rom and none of them had the touch screen working after flash. What am i doing wrong?
saviour
Htc updated their touch drivers when 4.2 was released for us.
Simply flash a 4.2 boot.img, will work perfectly.
Thanks, i'll try that.:good:
Any 4.2 boot.img?
Dam cant make it work. Flash installs, touch works but only htc blank screen after unlock screen.
EDIT: repacked kernel and got it working
What's the best recovery to install ICS roms?
Philz touch and CWM used to work best for me.
As you're on a newer hboot, you'll have to use this CWM recovery for a working touch support. You can find philz's on his thread.

works well on my 1.73 hboot.
try with another custom kernel and remember to flash the modules.
Thanks if it helps
Custom kernel? From a ICS rom or a JB rom? And how do i flash the modules that come inside the rom zip?

I think i said it wrong. Custom kernel didn't work for me. I flashed the stock ics rom(nandroid) and then the stock 4.2.2 boot.img and it worked for me. Touch, unlock screen and everything.
I'll try that. Think that's the only solution i haven't tried...

This where you flash a 4.2.2 custom kernel including its modules.
