[Q] Problems with rooting.

Hello all
Now I want to get to the point with this but I've been trying to root my arc s but to no avail.
Now I have posted a similar question before but this post is more to the point.
I've tried both of the easiest way but non of them work.
I've attached screen shots of all the errors both ways keep giving me.
If I'm missing something then please tell me because I've spent over 14hrs doing this but with the only result is a loss of my hair.
Rather than root with flashtools why not use the easy root for ics.
Also check you have phone mounted in mtp and debugging selected.

I'm running ics ( the latest version that Sony has released )

It's how your sd card is connected. Not sure if it makes much difference but it might help.
Also is use outside sources is that checked.
When you try the easy root method is your phone switched on?
Can you confirm you are using the correct easy root tool for ics and not gb version, again just making sure

yes my phone is on and unknown sources is ticked.
I'm using the latest version of easyroot I could find.
also how would I fix the sd thing, take it out or what?
In settings go to Xperia- connectivity- then select the option for mtp.
The reason I am asking this is that this is what my phone was set to, when I rooted using the ics easy root method.
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
ok I've checked and my phone had map already ticked so it had map on when I was trying too root it.
this is getting stupid, it's like my phone is different or there's something stopping the easy root software from working but I have no clue what it could be.
in all of my time with working with android I've never had a device harder to root then my arc s . but the process is simple enough to follow but it doesn't give me the end result I want.
sorry I ment mtp, dam auto correct.
YES XDXDXDXD My phone is finale rooted, I don't know what I did differently to what I did before but I'm rooted now and that's the first thing .
Onto the next thing .

Hellions with blue flames does actually mean that the exploit has been patched. You'll need to grab a firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18226603&postcount=2. And flash with flashtool.
I don't know which of those links are still alive and can't check here in work so you may have to find a mirror. But the post says that zergRush works with all these firmwares so once you get one flashed, don't upgrade OTA.
there are none for the r800at (my phone) and i cant find a 2.3.2 version anywhere
And I tried super one click and it does the same as zergrush but could it be that on there page I looked under tested devices and didn't find the xperia play
Sent from my R800at using xda premium
There is a 2.3.3 R800at firmware listed. From the what the poster said, zergRush should work with it.

Sent from my R800at using xda premium
As far as I know there are a number of AT&T firmwares on 2.3.3
Some of them work with zergRush and some of them don't.
I found this one on the forums that is dated from November.

Again, I am unable to check if the link is still up in work but it looks like it's still up.

I did hear a few people mentioning that you can flash your R800at phone with R800i FW and everything will work as it should. You just need to wipe everything when flashing.
Please keep in mind that I don't know if this is possible as I don't have an R800at. Maybe someone can confirm this for you. I would definitely get confirmation before trying it

4.0.4 version cannot be rooted directly with a program, no such hack.
You have two options.
1) Unlock bootloader (and lose DRM if done official way) and install/hotboot custom kernel to get root.
2) Install any previous ROM, which can be rooted (GB 4.0.2.A.0.42 or ICS4.0.3 4.1.A.0.562 for example), root it and then find the proper guide to root Xperia 4.0.4 and follow it.

Flash THIS with the flashtool, reboot, download the kernel and wifi modules from HERE, flash the kernel with fastboot, reboot to home screen. Reboot into CWM and flash the modules, reboot to home screen. Finally, reboot back into CWM and flash this CWMRoot.zip, done.

Actually the best option is to flash 4.1.A.0.562 using flashtool, root it and upsate to .431 with OTA.
Since u have already unlocked boot loader u wont be getting ota updates from sony. So there is no use of flashing 4.1.A.0.562 coz neways u cant update to .431 over OTA.
So its better to flash some custom roms like Ultimate hd 2 (ICS) or X gamer 1.8 (GB)
These 2 roms are the fastest ICS and GB roms available.
DRM is "Digital Rights Management"
its a way to lock down digital media to a specific user and in some cases restrict the ways in which that media can be used and/or copied

Bootlocked Xperia S, rooted, CWM 'installed succesfully' but can't access it?

I am trying to install CWM on my bootloader locked Xperia S.
It's all went smoothly; downgraded to gingerbread, run the rooting process, currently on a confirmed rooted ICS. Ran RecoverX and for all intentions it installs correctly with no errors. I restart my phone and tap the Sony logo numerous times... and I've tried a countless amount of times now but it just continues on loading stock ICS. It's really starting to get on my nerves now. Does anyone have any idea why it's happening? or is there any adb commands to check if CWM is installed?
RecoverX says accept any SuperUser prompts on the screen, but none appear.
RecoverX log:
Starting adb...
Wait for the device...
Check if the device is correctly rooted...
Check if busybox is installed...
Push files...

Even though I clearly have access to my phone via adb. Because it's been rooted... Grr!
Nobody have any idea? Spent around 12 hours trying to sort it out yesterday so I'm completely out of things to try
For search purposes I ended up fixing it by updating the flashtool drivers for the phone (ticked every Xperia S checkbox). Well, it was either that or perhaps updating BusyBox, which is highly unlikely as I tried pretty much every version of it yesterday.

i flash a system image in the boot partition using FlashTool progrem
And I changed kernel
Only now I realized I needed to use fastboot and command prompt to flash the img file to the system partition.
And when I do that it tells me "flash operation complete"
But the kernel is not replaced!!??!!
i try QuikIMG-0.2-beta and the fastboot and command prompt to flash the img file to the system partition and this didnt work....
what i can do?
tnx!!!

Have you tried Flashing Stock Firmware?
Here is a Thread where you can download Official Stock Firmwares for the Xperia Play(Post #2):

Are you trying to Flash it via Fastboot Mode?
You have to change the File Extension from .rar to .ftf , and then Flash it via FLASH MODE (NOT Fastboot Mode) in FlashTool.

If you Flashed the Stock Firmware for your phone and you say that the kernel has not changed how are you able to see what kernel you have if the phone should not be able to boot(Because it would be like trying to use a Costume ICS kernel on the Stock GB ROM)???

Have you flashed a Custom ROM?
If you have, please specify exactly what version of the Lupus Kernel and what ROM you are using.
And if you have not flashed a Custom ROM, as I said before trying to use a Custom Kernel on the Stock ROM will not work(it will not boot in most cases), you need to Flash a Custom ROM that is compatible with the Lupus Kernel you are using.

Okay first of all, I don't think you understand the difference between a ROM, Kernel, and Firmware so I'll explain that first:
A ROM (In Android) is basically like the OS, it contains all the software you see and use on the phone. The kernel would be what connects the ROM (the OS) with the phone's hardware. A firmware would be a combination of both a Kernel and a ROM and its most commonly used to describe the Original ROM and Kernel of the phone (Stock Firmware). Please confirm that you Understand.
Now, I have never used SuperOneclick to root the Xperia Play so I really can't tell you what you are doing wrong. If you want, use zergRush. You don't have to install it, here is the basic procedure:
download the attached file, extract it using winzip/winrar
go to the folder where its extracted and execute "RUNME.bat"
read and follow the instructions on the screen!
[04/Jan][ROOTING/UNROOTING] Xperia 2011 Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit)
I don't think you will have any problems if you Flashed a R800i Firmware on a R800a, but just to be sure use Firmware made for your phone.
And if what you mean by "what Firmware I recommend" is what ROM do I recommend, here it is:
If you want Gingerbread(Android 2.3): Gin2KitKat
If you want ICS(Android 4.0): Xperia Play Z
If you want Jellybean(Android 4.1.2): Racing SPEED EDITION EOL or Super Lite Jelly Bean
For each ROM you have to install the Kernel it tells you to(Read instructions). I also want to add that their is no such thing as a best ROM, each ROM has its Pros and Cons, and what might appeal to me might not to you. I would recommend for you to try different ROMs and see what suits you.
And last, Please Click on the Thanks Button

Use latest version of flashtool http://flashtool.net
Find ftf firmware files at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897
Make sure you download correct firmware for your model (r800i/a/x)
The easiest way to get root on stock r800i
1: flash .42 firmware and root it with zerg-rush
2: flash .79 firmware and flash doomlord gb kernel
