Are there any deodexed stock ROMs? The main reason I went with the S4 is for all the TW features, but I do know that deodexing tends to save speed up some things (not to mention the google wallet fixes aren't for odexed MDL phones)

Here is a very excellent stock deodexed Touchwiz Jellybean 4.2.2 M919 Tmobile cwm/twrp flashable rom.
It is pre-rooted and has some of the bloatware removed. It is stock with stock theme and
only has a few enhancements most of which have to do with speed and functionality.
There are only two requirements you must have in order to flash this rom,
#1 your phone must be rooted, #2 you must have either twrp or cwm recovery installed.
Try it out, be sure to do a full wipe including Factory Reset in CWM/TWRP before you flash.
Good luck!

Not that I need it because I know how to browse the development forum and use the search function, but where is the link?
Also, feel free to browse the development forum and/or use the search function to assist you in finding a deodexed stock ROM. There are quite a few of them in the development forum and will all tell you if it is deodexed/stock in the OP.

Hi guys,
I'm running stock 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on my d2tmo Galaxy S3. When I look up kernels and whatnot, they are labelled many different ways. Some have JB in the name, some with AOSP in the name. I'm wondering: what types of kernels can I flash if I'm running a rooted stock ROM? I don't want to flash any custom ROMs because I'm a musichead and I like the stock music player
Thank you!
First of all you can get then stock music player with a custom rom
Second you can only run aosp kernels with an aosp rom. Aosp stands for android open source project. Aosp is not stock.
You can only use kernels labeled stock or touchwiz if you are using stock based rom
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
3rd of all, what in the heck do you want? Haha, you say you are running a 4.1.2 rom (only aosp available on TMO) so AOSP... but you want a kernel for stock (4.1.1) touchwiz rom? The stock music apk is great and works on all stock touchwiz based roms, and in my resource guide I have a huge list of what is available and what is what, if the kernel says 4.1.1 TouchWiz then it is for 4.1.1 TouchWiz. if it says 4.2 AOSP it is for 4.2 AOSP, if it says 4.1 AOSP then it is for 4.1 AOSP... Look in my resource bible in my signature, or in the dev sections for [kernel].
See, that's where I get confused. Sorry for the noob questions. I've been looking around but can't find clear, precise answers.
I'm running the stock TouchWiz, out of the box, 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (updated while not rooted to 4.1.2). That stock ROM is not the same as an AOSP ROM or an AOKP ROM, is it? I have another Android device that runs CM10.1 so I know a bit here and a bit there about ROMs and whatnot, but I'm not so confident when it comes to my S3.
Simply put, I want to keep that stock ROM, but get a custom kernel, because the stock kernel SUCKS. I need to know what kernels I can flash, and clninja already said I can only flash kernels labelled stock or TW. Am I correct, so far?
Thank you!
Well here's a Kernel that is supposed to be supported for STOCK rooted : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785466 :highfive: But seriously you should get a custom ROM, the performance improvement is incredible and power management too !

That ROM is labelled Jelly Bean in the title but underneath that it says it's only compatible with ICS. Question mark.
Question: when you're running a custom ROM, if there's an update for it, say from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1, you can just flash the update right over and not worry about problems right? Or do you need to factory reset through recovery and wipe the caches all over again?

There are a couple of touchwiz kernal's around, Ktoonsez is one that I would recommend, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946
Usually the general rule of thumb with upgrading custom rom is full wipe and flash, but some users has dirty flashed and had no problems so it depends whether your phone likes you or not.

Most of the times when you flash a ROM that is built off itself, you can "dirty flash". Example--> That means if you are already on a RootBox Nightly 2/17 with a clean install and RootBox 3/6 comes out, all you have to do is wipe /cache and /dalvik-cache and then flash the new version of the ROM. If any bugs creep up, then if you dirty flashed, chances are that is why.
If you are going to go from a TWiz ROM to an AOSP/AOKP ROM then I suggest a full factory reset and wipe accordingly. That way you have a clean install.
Read the OPs of the ROMs

You could install the update, but seriously I never do updates. I manual flash the whole new ROM. ( and I never had any accidents or bugs)
For the kernel, its was a example kernel chose the one you prefert ( THAT SUPPORT TOUCHWIZ STOCK ROM ) or just flash a new ROM with build-in kernel like the ParanoidKANGdroid 10.2 ROM !
I flashed the FrostyJellybean ROM with Xone kernel and it's been good so far. I'm a religious person when it comes to battery, but so far it's about the same as the normal drainage on the stock ROM, no noticeable improvements.
Another question (whoop): if I run a Nandroid backup, does that backup include the ROM itself? In other words, if I'm running the Frosty ROM, and there's a ROM I want to test, will creating a Nandroid include the Frosty, or will it just backup the system image excluding the ROM itself? I'm asking this because I have wanted to restore my Nandroids but didn't know if that backup may overwrite my existing ROM with the previous ROM.
Thank you guys for taking your time to help me out, I really appreciate it!

I have flashed a new ROM, so I no longer have the stock Build Number. It now says FrostyJellybean v11.6. I can tell you for a fact that I was previously running 4.1.1 rooted but without any customization or mod whatsoever outside the phone's original settings, so as stock as you can get.
A Nandroid is essentially a snapshot of your ROM at that point in time. You can back it up, try a new ROM and if you don't like it, then restore your Nandroid. A Nandroid should be done before you flash anything. You don't necessarily have to keep them all except your latest, but at least have one for when you try something out.
You can flash and restore just fine from ROM to ROM. Only thing is, you can't restore across platforms. Meaning, if you are on JB 4.1.1, you couldn't restore to ICS 4.0.4. Likewise you can restore a JB 4.1.1 if you are on a JB 4.2.2 ROM because of the file structure. There are ways to do it, but I won't go into that right now. Moral of that story is you can flash and restore laterally as far as builds go, but you cannot restore across different base builds.
*************
I just wanted to see your Settings>About Phone>Build Number because in your OP, you stated that you were running "stock 4.1.2 Jelly Bean". We don't have a stock 4.1.2 ROM, so I was making sure you didn't have another phone. Sure, could be a T999 but there are Canadian versions out there that require different things.
Oh, about the Android version, yes, it's 4.1.1. I wrote 4.1.2 because I thought there was some stuff going on, like wireless and whatnot, and had previously read somewhere that 4.1.2 was rolling out and my phone was doing the "Android is upgrading" thing when it booted up and I didn't check the version before writing that. No worries, it was the stock 4.1.1.
Thank you so much for answering my questions, you guys are awesome!
This is my device at this point:
1. Rooted 4.4.2
2. Stock T-Mobile ROM
3. I can flash SinLess ROM v2.1.2 with no issues after reboot
ANY Aroma ROM I try to flash (for example, DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6), after reboot after installing results in a bootloop at the Samsung screen.
Are NONE of the Aroma ROMs not working on the T-Mobile Note 3?
I would really like to flash the DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6 but can't if I can't get past the Samsung screen on a bootloop.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Darthstalker is a 4.3 base ROM. It won't work on a 4.4 bootloader, which is what you have if you took the OTA or flashed the Odin 4.4 package. It's not Aroma, it's just that most of the Aroma installer ROMs haven't been updated to 4.4 yet. And Samsung made the bootloader incompatible, so once you are on 4.4, you can't boot a 4.3 ROM.
Same with recovery. Make sure you flash 4.4 bootloader versions of TWRP/CWM or it won't boot.
so what IS a 4.4.2 with Aroma and NOT AOSP?

Thank you for the insight, I was seriously under the (wrong) impression that DeathStalker was a 4.4.2 ROM. I really didn't know.
IS there a list of 4.4.2 stock rooted ROMs with Aroma? You wrote "most of the Aroma installers haven't been updated to 4.4 yet." Which have? It's very confusing because honestly, i was looking and didn't see that DeathStalker was a 4.3 ROM. I went back and looked and noticed a bunch of JB stuff in the list of enhancements which gave it away.
Well, if anyone can suggest a good stable 4.4.2 ROM with Aroma and not AOSP, I want to keep the SPEN functionality that is still missing in CM. Although I do LOVE CM. Used it religiously on my S3.
thank you in advance.
I honestly don't know of any that have. Any reason you want an Aroma installer? It's not like you see it after the install is done. Most modded stock ROMs will list the "base" ROM they started from in the OP. Check that, and if it's a 4.4 base, it will likely work fine on your 4.4 bootloader phone. There's going to be a bit of a rough patch for a while as the ROMs get updated and users get updated. You just have to read up on each one to verify before installing. Just do a thread search for "bootloader" or "4.4" and read some of the posts. Chances are, it's been asked and answered in the thread if you look.
I'm just running a rooted stock build without Knox/CIQ, the stock ZIP that teshxx posted in the dev forum. Then just used Titanium Backup to un-install any bloatware I didn't want. Add a few Xposed modules, and it's a quite good ROM.
If you like CM, the SPEN does work. It acts a bit like a mouse. It's the built-in apps that don't work. You can replace the functionality of many of them. But if you really like some of them, that's not a great option. I ran CM/AOSP builds for a while, but decided the stability of a stock ROM was more important to me right now. I'll probably be back on CM after a while. I like the speed boost from the slimmer ROM.
Awesome reply

What a thoughtful and excellent reply. Thank you very much. I'm looking at MyROM Revolution and may download that.
Honestly, I wanted Aroma because it seemed so much more customizable upon installation rather than taking the vision that a dev had for the ROM they created. I may well be wrong and thank you for the update on CM and SPEN, good to know. I just didn't check out the official CM thread as I had heard no SPEN support yet.
I'm running Sinless ROM and while good, it has a certain non-customizable feel to it. Just looking for something lighter, just not as light until everything is stable of CM.
thank you and if anyone has any suggestions for any 4.4.2 ROMs with (or without) Aroma please pass them on.

Flash rom(CSC is default and also choose NO kernel) one done go on and flash wootevers kernel then the wifi fix. Zip should be a go I did it reverse and wifi was bad flashed it again all gravy

Oh also the side effect I had. It deleted everything in my internal so make sure you put the kernel and wifi fix on ext SD so you'll hace it available. You'll eventually get your pictures back and music too but not 3rd downloads from the net or apps like wallpapers of screen shots. Be aware

This mod is NOT working on FirekatN4 custom rom (don't know why).

The only custom rom which this mod is not yet compatible with is the FirekatN4 rom.
This mod does NOT touch or modify the systemui in the phone.
Perhaps one of the enabled features or options in your Xpose

re: possible issues
For those who might be experiencing some issues after flashing this mod my only
suggestion would be to make a nandroid backup and then do a clean full wipe flash
of whatever rom you are using then before flashing anything else flash this mod.
Be sure to copy the full screen caller id zip file to your internal sdcard first.
Here is how I tested this mod to make sure
it works properly with the following roms:
Hyperdrive custom rom
Darthstalker custom rom
Skyfall custom rom
Dynamic Kat custom rom
Jovy23's stock rooted deodexed zipaligned rom
#1: full wipe including system, data, cache, dalvik and factory reset in twrp.
#2: flash your favorite custom rom.
#3: reboot the phone after about five minutes.
#4: reboot into recovery mode in twrp.
#5: flash the full screen caller id
I tested all five roms one at a time with a clean wipe making sure it worked.
Please note, this mod will NOT work with WIFI CALLING enabled!!!
Good luck!

Find my Hybrid rom thread and you'll find two versions of hotspot mod in the OP down in mods section.. If youre on the new NK2 update then flash the one you need and forget about it. Odexed if your on the factory installed rom and deodexed if you're running a custom deodexed rom.
Edit: Both of my hotspot mods are for NK2 so check to see which build you have because there is most likely a difference between the NIE and NK2. jar file responsible for this mod.

Thanks for the support. The last 3 on my baseband is NK2. Soes that mean i will have to download and install the x series rom instead of the hybrid rom seeing both hybrids are NIE?
Thanks
If you have the NK2 modem then you obviously took the NK2 ota or odin flashed the NK2 rom .tar. Like I said, unless you have flashed a custom deodexed rom, you are on a stock odexed rom. Therefore you need the odexed NK2 hotspot mod. You don't need to flash my rom to use the hotspot mod. Just download it and flash it. Your hotspot will then work.
As it is right now, I don't see any custom roms or deodex stock roms that match OE2. I'm already rooted, so it seems like I can't update to any of the 5.1 roms, so I'm trying to find one that's based on OE2, or something closely compatible that I can flash over OE2 without issues.
At the very least, I'd like to find a way to properly deodex my current rom so I can use certain mods and themes and try to get Xposed working on my device.
Why are you posting this in the Dev section? Learn how to properly use the forums first, then you can think about posting something.
You can easily use Odin to get to any firmware.
Download the OF7 stock tar (links all over the place, search a little), flash with Odin, OTA to OH1, then you can use any of our wide selection of 2 ROMs.
Lol and Edge 925P roms. Just make sure to flash Unikernel after.
