Reverting to 4.1 on note 2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I need to revert to 4.1 I am currently on 4.2. Can I just nandroid back after a clean wipe or do I need to reformat the sd card back to exfat, then flash the 4.1 rom?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium

Best way is to use ODIN. Then you dont have to fuss with partitions and /0 folders

Agreed....
Odin. ...with the factory build. ..g

So it's just like rooting again or what?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium

You can Odin push either a factory non-rooted build. ...
Or you can flash a rooted build also. ..
Personal preference really. ..
But do use Odin. ...as changing framework between 4.1 and 4.2 can give you issues without a fresh start. ..
If you go pure stock. ..you would need to run CF auto root again. ..
And you are guaranteed a clean restore to 4.1...g

I have flashed most roms on here, I have gone back and forth from 4.2.2 to 4.1.2 and back again many many times. I never have any issues. Just flash the zip in the op of the cm10.1 thread the is for going back to 4.1.2 from 4.2.2
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app

While I agree that the "just flash it" method has a good chance of success. ..it's no guarantee. .
The dirty flash method should not be used unless stated by the creator of any particular build or modification. ..
The note 2 section is overflowing with device issues caused by improper flashing techniques. ..and to suggest dirty flashing, especially between frameworks is unwise. ...imho
Folks can flash how they like. ..but for me. ..it's full wipes and ensuring a clean device. ..g

I'm not saying to dirty flash, I'm just saying I have never odined back to stock just to go back to a 4.1.2 rom from a 4.2.2 rom. I always clean flash, even going from different touchwiz roms.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app

Funny. I found mad macks revert zip file. Worked flawlessly.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium

Excellent. ..
I'm glad your issue was solved. ...g

Thanks. Back to 4.2

Going from ics to gb

So basically I was having issues with my phone and ended up getting a warranty replacement. So b4 I sent my old one back I needed to revert it back to stock. I found a flashable zip from zedomax that returned the stock kernel, recovery, and ROM. Only thing it was 2.3.5 gingerbread. I was running infamous 3.1 and did darkside super wipe and cache., well after flashing the zip I got the stock recovery, and part of stock boot animation, well after the stock boot animation then came the infamous animation then nothing. It wouldn't boot up past that.,I ended up using Odin and fixing it and converted stock that way. My question is... Is there a special method going from ics to gb?

Yeah just use odin or a flashable zip to return to stock no big deal
I know how to Odin and get stock...I'm asking if there's anything special to go from an ics ROM to a GB ROM? BC when I did it I soft bricked, using all the darkside
Wipes.

I have flashed from GB to ICS back and forth a few times never really had an issue like that the only real issue I have ever had was a few apps force closing but a quick wipe of the cache took care of that issue

don't use the CWM flashable zips. if you do you should flash the rom and kernel too? you probably did but sometimes it doesn't work correctly. I would suggest flashing via odin to get to stock then wipe data/factory reset through stock recovery. that is the cleanest method to get to stock. the CWM flashing to zip sometimes leave stuff behind from earlier flashes.

Wanna revert to ics...

Hey guys, im rooted on stock jb for tmobile with stock recovery. I wanna get custom recovery and flash back to ics and use a custom rom like wicked v7.
To do this do I just download goo manager, install its recovery, wipe then flash? Or do I have to change the firmware etc?
Sorry, I usually search for my solutions but im read mixed stuff on reverting and I really dont wanna brick this thing. I even kinda forgot how to do all this since I havent touched my old sensation in months.
Thanks guys.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yup.
If you're rooted, 1. download goo manager 2. install openrecovery script 3. flash ROM of choice. You may need to wipe cache and data if you get a bunch of FC's since you're going back to ICS from JB. Don't forget to do a nandroid (step 2.5).
Already on Frosty ics, but thanks guyss
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
What I would first do is Odin the ics so you have all drivers installed properly then root and flash rom of choice
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I agree with Crisisx1. I know you said you're already running Frosty (I'm a Wicked guy myself) but if you notice any anomalous behavior, I'd definitely Odin to stock ICS and then go through the proper flashing process. This will ensure all of your partitions/drivers are properly set up. GL man.
So far so good, if any weird things happen ill deff odin back, thanks again guys.

Okay go here -http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyNote2/SPH-L900- and download these 2 files.
One is a Sprint LJ1 stock rom. (Flash through Odin on PC)
The 2nd is the flashable zip of LJ1 to LJC (do it though TWRP or CWM)
Make sure to make a backup of your apps and data because it does a restore.
There you go

wierd that someone would send you to another site to DL files, files that you can get here with actual instructions on how to use them. (really? ODIN one thing, then CWM another? Just to get stock? smh)
and then for a person to send you to do this without mentioning the HFA errors and Chameloen FCs that you get from reverting to an earlier ROM from the LK8 leak, and how to fix that.

I am including a version of Billard's TWRP, (original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769) to make it easier for you to revert to LJC. What I do, coming from LK8, is the usual prescribed wipes, before flashing any rom, but I also wipe with the new Carrier button under the wipe menu. When you first boot the new rom, it will rebuild the wiped carrier partition automatically and reboot. Once rebooted, the Handsfree Activation will begin, and the Chameleon errors will no longer be a problem.
This recovery is a godsend.
If you want to go back to any other recovery afterwards, just ODIN your chosen recovery, or flash one, whichever format of recovery you downloaded. I usually just download Goo Manager from the Play store, and install the official TWRP from OpenRecovery Script.
This is a recovery zip file you can flash with the recovery you have now.
Hope this helps, and Billard, I could not find a link to your recovery (found it!! Updated to your original link now). If there's a problem with me sharing your recovery, let me know!
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=2472 << chose the one with carrier wipe!
As always, proceed with caution, and I am NOT resposible for any and all problems you may run into.
Thanks so much.

what I did was I flashed the custom recovery by Billard, then I flashed the LJC_Stock_With_Count_Reset[FINAL].zip and that put me in a boot loop. I then booted my phone to download mode and flashed COMBINATION_L900VPALJC_CL434243_HWID04_HW_Rev0406_user.tar.md5. The result was my note 2 back to stock with stock recovery and 4.1.1 ljc! If you were to flash the COMBINATION_L900VPALJC_CL434243_HWID04_HW_Rev0406_user.tar.md5 without first at least installing the custom recovery and wiping the carrier settings I know that the combination tar will fail and you'll be stuck with a kies message. If you follow my steps your phone should also go through with the combination.tar file and put you back to unrooted, stock, ljc. Hope this helps someone.

No all jokes aside is what happens when you revert back to LJC from any of the other builds like LK8 and up. Something breaks which causes hands free activation to start up after every boot and it fails to activate device.

[Q] flashing a rom without bricking?

I cant flash a rom and have it work. I have tried several ROMS like aokp, jedi, smooth, jellybeans, etc and they almost always brick. Jedi worked but google services crashed back to back to back to the point where i couldnt even use the phone. does anyone know of a 4.3 rom that works on att sgh-i317?? i basically went down the list on galaxynote2root.com and tried them all but no success.
I have root, have TWRP installed and flash the rom and it bricks. i factory reset first, then install and nothing.
any ideas?

booted and bricked- hangs at "X" aokp bootup screen

I did those exact steps and it did not work. i tried flashing pac man rom the last time and it got stuck in a boot loop too. I think there are some files that are corrupt or some temp files somewhere that are preventing a successful flash. my binary flash count was 9. and that was just on this run, ive tried flashing several times before. each time the only way to recover it is hooking the phone up to a pc and using kies to flash back to stock firmware. this sucks.
What version of twrp are you using? I have never had this issue you are having and I have flashed every rom on this forum for our device.

9 counts ??
Uh....yeh...not right ...
Have you messed with device partitions in ODIN ??
If so...something is definitely wrong ...
At this point ...you may want to consider a full return to stock and allow the PIT to properly restore your partitions..
Just follow the return to stock guide (sticky )...in the general section ..
Once restored to stock with a corrected flash counter you can begin again using CF auto root as your root method..
It sounds as if you have root issues and possible partition damage...
One other step you can try first is to boot into download mode and re-root using CF...
That may help....but certainly won't hurt anything...then attempt a clean flash again..
If it fails ...then the return to stock and rooting again seems prudent ...g

Mobile hotspot does not work on stock 4.3 deodexed roms without flashing the hotspot hack. You will need to find and flash the correct version hotspot hack for your rom. Ex. MA7, MC2, MK4, etc.
Do this: Flash Phil's recovery 6.0.7.9, wipe everthing, flash rom of choice (I recommend LorJay's stock deodexed MK4 without Note 3 features), upon first boot you may need to Odin flash the WiFi fix (from your PC only), then boot into recovery and flash the MK4 hotspot hack, reboot and setup phone, Success.
If for some strange reason you still get that error message when turning on mobile hotspot, I'd flash a custom AOSP ROM such as Slim ROM, Carbon ROM, etc. Those Roms have hotspot fully functioning right out of the box. Keep us posted.
Still no good. Thanks for suggestion tho. . Haven't tried asop but not a Fan. Any suggestions on wiping or formatting(how to) the internal part of phone to go from scratch.

It seems as if Sprint has done something to your phone because everything you have dine should have worked. Something isn't right. That's why I suggested trying an AOSP ROM for the time being just to test this theory. Then you can flash back to stock or whatever you choose. You could also flash a custom Touch Wiz rom that has hotspot already working. If that fails you definitely got a phone that's been altered somehow by Sprint. I've yet to ever see this but I'm sure its very possible. Just my opinion.
