Just wondering, I always end up back on a stock debloated ROM. I don't use Facebook, or Facebook messenger. I use Instagram and that's about it. Sync, GPS, Bluetooth, auto rotate, NFC, all disabled. AOSP ROMs for me have been battery killers. I'm not sure of I'm using the right settings for the kernels, i use stock settings. Whatever the ROM has at boot up.

I've tried quite a lot of roms and I still find stock the best for battery life myself. I've done the undercoating volting and different kernels and haven't been able to replicate the longevity. Now mind you everyone's results are different.
Depending on the apps you use and how you use your phone; so for my purposes stock debloated works. Not as smooth or fast as others though but don't let it stop you from continually trying new roms. There is always refinement and always something better around the corner

My battery on CM10.1 drains faster than TouchWiz, but it has gotten much better with the latest nightlies. I also keep sync, gps, nfc, data, bluetooth, etc off at all times. But I found that Greenify help me reduce my wakelocks and idle battery drain, because it hibernates apps that stay constantly running in the background (Facebook, I'm looking at you).
I feel like I'm the only one based on what I've read on the forums, but I have been getting very good battery life from Cyanogenmod 10.1 RC 2-4 with Ktoonsez's kernel. I have been getting 4.5-5 hours of screen time, which is the same I was getting on stock. I use Facebook, Facebook messenger, Twitter, Instagram, Google plus. I use bluetooth/WiFi/gps intermittently throughout the day. I'm not holding back at all in terms of usage and I'm doing pretty well

You don't actually mention how long you get.
I'll go 9-10hrs, 2hrs screen time and I'll plug it in. As long as I can get through work without charging I'm happy.

I get about the same.. Maybe a little less battery life on aosp. Remember too touchwiz has power saving options on by default which may have something to do with it. I have been on aosp for a few days now and let my battery cycle a few times and its probably the same now. Its weird because theoretically it should be better with a lot less bloat and background touchwiz crap.

Bloat or not, the battery drain is probably due to the fact that the ROM platform, which is on dozens of different devices; isn't optimized properly for one device it's ported to. That's why I always stay stock. Generally better battery life and more functionality. I don't know why so many people praise AOSP. The UI looks like a TouchWiz UX in beta and its not nearly as practical when it comes to features like the camera.
I get good battery life after using greenify and messing with some kernel settings . I've definitely learned that most ROMs don't differ much from each other battery wise , earlier I got a one percent drop an hour with light texting and a few calls which is better than touchwiz for me.

Yep, AOSP has always been an issue for me.
If you look at my past posts you can see I've mentioned many times and I usually always switch back to TW for that reason alone.
You're not crazy!
I actually don't notice any difference between stock and CM10.1 RC#. I usually have GPS, NFC, Sync, etc. turn ON (everything but blue tooth). I unplug when I get up, and the battery will last pretty much last all day until I plug it in when I go to bed. I am using DS battery saver, set for 2 hour wake intervals.
I could be that stock gets better life, but again, I haven't seen any noticeable difference. I probably do not use my phone as much as some do.
I've used greenify since it's release and it's definitely worth installing.

AOSP battery life on my device is about the same as TW roms.
A couple of months ago I couldn't say that, probably because the 3.4 kernel development still needed to mature on aosp

Battery life has never been good for me in AOSP. I am a huge fan of Task's AOSP work, but I have never been able to get over 12hrs, even w/ light use. I'm sure if I tweak the settings, maybe undervolt and all that good stuff, then I would see an improvement in battery life. But I just flash and use the ROM as it comes. I also refuse to have bluetooth, NFC, sync or anything else turned off, because then what's the point of having a smart phone? I had to revert back to TW based ROM .

I've had great battery life on aosp, I try to remember to toggle off data/NFC/WiFi as much as possible, but with regular use I'd average 3 hrs screen on time. Anytime I flash a new ROM I clean wipe & start fresh, I've found even updating a ROM without a wipe can cause a drain. Kernel settings are mostly stock, I oc to 1.7 and mess with the gov. settings a bit.
I've had my phone for 4 months now and have yet to try a tw rom for more then a few hours. Just can't stand it!

I ran tasks AOSP since possibly November last year, and I never dirty flashed. I always figured the hour it took me to set the phone again the way I had it was well worth it because my phone was incredibly stable. I only came back to TW when task updated to Linux kernel 3.4 which my phone did not agree with. Like I said earlier, if know of people who have gotten over 20 hrs of battery from a single charge. I was never one of them. I never gave it much thought because I always have access to a charger. But since I switched to TW, namely S3Rx,i find that I am less worried about battery without having to worry about shutting some services off. Also, I really wasn't taken advantage of the improvements AOSP provided over TW.
To the OP. I think you should try whichever Rom you think fits your needs. If the thought of being in AOSP is too alluring, you should definitely try it. I will always swear by Task's version of AOKP. People can complain about the man's attitude all they want, but the quality of his work is impecable. If not, the are other very good aosp based ROMs available.
In any case, is phone is basically limitless, so take advantage of that!

I have never found juggs to be a battery friendly ROM. It's a power ROM. Better for gaming, shooting live video etc. If you want the 15 to 20 hour battery some are getting then switch over to darksides ROM DIGITALWARFARE. It's powerful enough for gaming just not like juggs.
Also usage plays a roll to. If your gaming for 4 stright hours don't expect the phone to last that long because no phone will. Running Juggs with darksides kernal is kinda doesn't mix.

Download 2x battery from the market, it's done wonders for my phone and i use it with any rom i flash. Not to mention i ran that same setup for quite awhile and the maximum time out of a battery i've gotten comes using juggs 5 and v1 darkside kernel.
I'm running Juggernaut 5.0, with Eugene's Streamline kernel. I'm getting about 17hs. I'm also OCD, so I play, and tweak every setting possible. I game a lot, and usually get about 6-8 with that. It depends on a lot of factors though. I agree though, it's kind of an oxymoron to use Darkside kernel with that rom. They kind of clash.....I guess you could say, as far as battery goes anyways. I had the same issue when I used that kernel. Just my experience anyways. There's a lot of setups you could go with, so. Best to just test everything once, till you find your happy place.

Your battery life also depends on a number of other factors as well. Do you have animations on or off? If they are on, turn them off. What brightness is your screen? I turn mine all the way down. How many widgets are you running? I don't use widgets. Is your phone constantly syncing with Facebook, Twitter etc? I only turn my sync on for Gmail and Google. Is your GPS on? I have mine off at all times. Do you stream a lot of music/videos? How many programs do you have running in the background? I make sure everything is closed or off except for the programs that need to be on. If I need to use a program/app I will open it, I don't need it constantly running shortening my battery life. Etc Etc.
I also recommend using the app Juice Defender. Yes it runs in the background at all times, but, it greatly improves battery life. I use it all the time and it's fantastic.
I typically have my phone on for 15-17hrs a day and by the time I go to bed I still have over 50% battery left. I am currently just on a stock ROM and not Juggs, but my results with Juggs were around the same as well, even with the Darkside Kernel. Peace

+1 I don't use juice defender on my device since I am happy with the battery life I get so far. However, I have Juice Defender on my wife's SGS2 with custom settings and her battery life has improved a lot. Before her phone would only last 10-12 hours with moderate use. Now she gets over 20 hours with the same usage.

ROMs themselves rarely ever have an actual impact on battery life. Most postive effects for battery come from the kernel, and negative ones from rogue apps.
Before you ask which kernel offers the best battery, it really depends on the requirements of the user and the phone itself. You'll just have to try a few.

My phone charger died so I downloaded an app...Easy Battery Saver...my phone was still at 34% after 1 day and 7 hours. I was NOT heavily using my phone but still this is the best battery life I have ever experienced. I was always on the "battery saver apps are useless" team until recently.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still flashing

Hmm.. thats strange. I'm on MMuzzy's ROM which is pure AOSP and I get around 2 and a half hours of screen time. And some people around the forums have gotten around 5 hours of screen time with different combinations of ROMS and Kernels.
I have tried numerous roms, if not all of them for the galaxy nexus, and there is a difference between roms, even using the same kernel.
I have been getting amazing battery life using Eclipse.

I used to get some awesome battery life. VZW + 2100mah. Typically 4 hours screen on time was normal.... now I'm lucky to get 1hr. I can't remember if it was the jelly bean update or the inclusion of Google Now.
Does letting the ROM settle really help? I have been getting terrible battery life out of my 2100mah. The battery just drains when the screen is off. No rogue apps, but this is a fresh install as of 24 hours ago

I wasn't going to put my 2 cents in but because there are so many complaints about this being in the wrong place, I just have to now.
I have tried many different ROM's and kernels and found there always seems to be the "right" combination sooner or later. Right now I am on AOKP w/Franco M6 and getting about 14 hours with 24% battery left, 2.5 hours screen time, mostly LTE and moderate phone use, best I have seen of any combo for me on this ROM. For CNA the right kernel for me was lean kernel. A little experimentation and patience and you will find that sweet spot soon enough.
Edit: the whining drew me to it, sucked me in so I couldn't stop myself from answering
If someone can get 4+ hours screen with mostly 3G, let me know. haha.

However as for battery life slim ROMs work great but I'm on jbsourcery built in trinity and I've definitely had worse d: the only ROM I've used that's had has battery is pa however they've had multiple updates since then so I'm sure its not horrible now

Hey guys! I am needing a rom that has REALLY GOOD battery life!! I am leaving out of town to go on a trip that is 17 hours on a bus. So i am needing a really good battery life!
I do the usual turning brightness down and stopping unwanted apps running. I don't prefer Juice Defender or task killers!
I have tested multiple ROMs and they really haven't given me the battery life i want. Mainly CM10 and Slim Bean releases. I am willing to flash and test other ROMs.
Please comment below of ROMs and their battery life.
P.S. I plan on moderate using this: Little Web Browsing, Skype, Some Facebook, A lot Of Texts, Very Little Calls, some Downloads from play store.

I'm currently using a UNOFFICIAL slim bean rom that claims to have good battery. I did wipe battery stats so i went ahead and tried to drain it (then fully recharge it). i put on netflix and watched a movie with bluetooth, gps, full brightness, and pretty much anything else that would really drain the battery. It took over 5 hours of movies just to get it to go completely dead.

So I am thinking about switching over to this ROM, now that Frosty ROM is no longer being supported by the dev. I have been reading through the treads and I don't see any issues people are having with this ROM. That's a huge plus!
I wanted to ask before flashing, does this ROM have themes? Does it have the ability to run the Galaxy Note 2 gallery and Camera, if so where is the download link? Does tethering work? How is battery life?
Sorry for the 20 questions, but I have to use my phone for work. I have to have it work.

I've been using Wiked JB v3 for about a week now after having tried about 5 other ROMs over the past 3 months. As another poster noted, Wiked is TouchWiz based, which I've decided I like better than CM/ASOP. When you flash Wiked, Aroma gives you several options including multiple launchers, gallery options and a couple others I don't remember offhand. I've been tremendously pleased with Wiked - it's stable, I've noticed nothing that's broken, battery life has been good (not great, but good), and no noticable issues related to voice or data signal. The developer is planning an update soon and seems to be providing stellar support to users.
Good luck!

Good luck!

I went ahead and flashed it last night. ( I came from Frosty 11.1) and I really like what I have seen so far. Since this is my first battery cycle the android system is pretty high (20%) and gsiff_deamon is what is driving it. I know this was an issue on Frosty, but am wondering if it is for Wicked. On Frosty the gsiff_deamon would run all time after experiencing a HOT BOOT. The solution was to reboot the phone. Is this the same thing? I have gotten 11 hrs out of this battery as of now and I am at 14%. Screen time only 1hr 36 min... I know I have to go through 3 cycles to really tell if battery is good, so that's why I am taking it with a grain of salt. If it does keep up, I might have to find another ROM. I was getting 16-17 hrs with Frosty running stock kernel (2 hr screen time)

If battery continues to be an issue for you, one you might consider is Team Sonic's FreeGS3 R7.1.1 "Resurrection". It is also TouchWiz based but has been tweaked in a way that gave me really good battery performance. I had a few random issues with it and decided to switch, but it was overall a good ROM.

Are you referring about Wicked or Sonic's ROM that had random issues that made you switch?

Weird...I thought custom touchwiz rom should increase battery life. Even on stock rooted phone, I got around 4hrs screen time and still 13% left of battery.
If you look at the screen shot, my 4300 MAH battery was dying with only gps on on low brightness screen time of 2 hours and 30 min. This is very short compared to a week ago when I got it, I got almost 6 hours of screen time.
Also I had about 45 min of screen time with juicedefender on and then idle from 7 to 1:47 today and 73% battery!?
Remember this is an extended battery, this seems too quick.
Could it be the battery, or programs on my phone. But I checked battery and screen was the most battery consumption on Low brightness. And nothing running in the backround

I'd suggest returning it under warranty.

You may want to use BBS ( Better Battery Stats ) to see if you have a Wakelock going on. Also to give you a better idea of what's going on.
Put the original back in, see if it drains at the same rate

I got it, and how do I check for a wake lock? And what is a wakelock?
Lastly, in cyanogenmod performance section I set my cpu governor to on demand and it goes from lowest speed to highest back and forth, instead of "on demand" when you need it

Sorry about asking, but what ROM are you on? If it is cm10.1, it could be all the changes they make. Anything 4.2.2 is still being worked on.

Yep. The bugs in the 3.4 kernel have not been squashed yet and it is rumored if you restore data on it it will drain your battery due to a media scan thing or something.

Restoring data. Like games or text with titanium backup or mybackup. I think that is what I was reading. I never used cm10.1 for more than 5 min, but I read the thread everyday to see how it is going.

Well, the only stable is cm10 stable, which is android 4.1.2, not 4.2.2.. but I personally love cm10 stable. You could try to dirty flash, but I have never went down an android level over dirty flash, but I would imagine it would not end well. I would recommend a clean flash. If you need a good backup app, look into app backup and restore for your apps and mybackup for text and app data. It can backup so much and is so simple to use. Both in play store.
Sorry about having to clean flash, but after you do, if it isn't your battery (which I believe it isn't), battery life should be improved greatly.

Thanks man, one of the best answers I've gotten from this site.
Last question , I chose 4.2.2 FOR the battery life improved through idle, but this changes everything, do you think staying here would give me useful features in otherwise wouldn't have in cm stable?
App Backup, while backing up can I multitask? I have hw to do lol and need the browser

I know people will argue otherwise, but the only thing different I see in 4.2.2 is 4 things.
the camera, which I flashed on 4.1.2 because I found a zip. Loving it.
4.2 keyboard, which I also have on 4.1.2. Very cool.
The lock screen which personally I think it is a good idea but it isn't that important to me. Cm10 stable is better suited because it is simple.
And last which is the quick toggles. I like this feature too but isn't a deal breaker for me. As cool as they are, I just use the power widgets in cm10 stable and they work just fine.
I know they say 4.2.2 helps improve battery life, and yes, in the long run it will. I don't know what nightly you flashed, but they are exactly what they are, nightly. They are just test for new things they put in to see if anything breaks. I am personally gonna wait till I see a stable 4.2.2. Rom until I make the jump up. 4.2.2. Is gonna have bugs as it is brand new. I can wait until the bugs are squished. If you want awesome battery life, you could try some of these touchwiz ROMs. Sometimes AOSP doesn't play nice with some phones as every phone is different.
So do as you wish. If you can live without some 4.2 features (which some you can get on 4.1.2) then make the jump. If the battery still acts up on 4.2 to where it bothers you, then switch. If you don't mind it stay. It is all up to you. .
I also forgot to add: if you flashed a nightly of cm 10.1, you could try the snapshot (monthly build by cm people).
These are considered more stable for daily use.
I am gonna go to bed now, but if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask/pm me. I will get to answering them as soon as possible.
Hope it all works out.

I had the worst luck with most aftermarket batteries, tried all brands, from everywhere, some didn't bother about telling you there is no NFC chip, and, they all got super hot while charging. None of them seemed to hold a charge longer than OEM.
