Getting a lock for gps can take minutes at a time. Has anybody else ran into this problem? and whats the fix?
No...haven't had this issue in a while. GPS lock extremely fast on mine.
What ROM and radios are installed? Kernel?
Have you tried any of the diagnostic apps like GPS test?
...beamed to your puny "phone" by my Sourcerized Galaxy Nexus.
Mine locks fast but locks about 1.3 kms away lol

I had a problem like that about 6 weeks ago -- last a couple of days, and then somehow "fixed itself". No idea what the issue was.
I suggest giving this a try, however -- I've found it very useful:

It takes so long for me to get a lock. Even with apps helping. I'm on the latest paranoid android, air kernel, and I think the latest radios

I'm having the same exact issue, takes forever to get a gps lock, i've tried downloading apps, and it never seems to work, I always have to sit there for a while or restart the phone. Even clicking the GPS/location services on and off doesnt work. Has ANYONE figured out the issue yet??? I have the verizon galaxy nexus, stock, not rooted. I even tried factory resets.
You guys ever tried something like GPS fix from the play store, it was helpful for me

Sorry in advance if someone has asked this already but its hard to go through all the posts on your phone lol. Anyway, when i first got my galaxy s2 i was impressed at the vast improvement that was made to the gps from the vibrant that i had but since i rooted and flashed the juggernaut Rom onto my phone i seem to be having the gps issues again. Either the phone won't find my location or it'll locate me but then sit on the "searching for gps" screen forever and never get to the turn by turn directions. Has anyone else experienced this? Any known ways to fix this issue? Any insight would be great. Fyi, I've tried using the app "faster fix" and it did nothing.
Thanks
Josh
have you tried factory wipe then reflashing juggernaut ? and leaving it for 10 mins? also ur tryin gps outside?

+1!
I've noticed this issue. For me it just takes a LOT longer than it used to to connect. I used GPS test and it finds PLENTLY of satellites just for some reason it takes around 3 minutes to connect to them whereas before it would be an almost instantaneous connection.
Download the app fasterfix (need root access) and then just select your regin it will work better and lock almost immediately

Still not instantaneous like it was with stock but not bad at all with fasterfix.
Why do stock roms get a lock on GPS in a few seconds and all roms that i flash from here(XDA) take minutes to get a lock ?
All roms I try get locks fine..

that is strange, must be just me :-(
I have used AOKP and CM9 nightlies and have fast gps locks.. within 5-8 seconds.
However if I am in a building they take longer.
In theory it shouldn't make a difference

Minutes?
I'm on APEX 1.1.3 beta2 w/ leanKernel (3.0.30) and it takes me no more than 10 seconds to get a lock, while in my car with the phone in the MIDDLE by center console.
If I'm out in the open, no more than 4-5 seconds to get a GPS lock on a cloudless day.
I'm located in Toronto, Canada on ROGERS Wireless.
It might be because your phone hasn't had time to download the A-GPS info yet.

Bingo, your the man...updated A-GPS, now locks in seconds...
GPS has always been an issue for me. Easily 3 out of 5 mornings I set my navigation and find that I need to reboot my phone in order to get a GPS lock. Its starting to get on my nerves. Thankfully the reboot doesnt take long. It took me awhile to get my phone unlocked, rooted, and flashed so I havent had much time to dig into this GPS issue. I also kinda hoped this wouldnt be an issue anymore but it is. So whats this A-GPS? How do I update it?
Found it- In case anyone else needs it https://play.google.com/store/apps/...us2&hl=en&rdid=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&rdot=1
Fixed! One more thing I can cross off the list. List has become pretty short lately
Hello
On liquid smooth rom 1.4
Franco stock kernel that came with the rom.
I9250xxla2 baseband
Here is where my problem lies.
The phone is marugo bought from Google play running stock ics 4.0.4.
When I first got it, I never got a lock on GPS, having tried gmaps and GPS status and toolbox.
I thought it was a rom issue, so I rooted my phone and tried slim ics, cm9 nightly and liquid smooth rom finally settling on lsr because I found performance to be better; I'm sure there are better roms out there.
My GPS icon NEVER blinks. It just sits there saying "searching for GPS". I have gone up to the roof and sat there 30+ minutes but the icon never blinks, let alone showing satellites and locking.
How do I find out whether the GPS module is busted or not? I have gone through a few agps patches and fixes by replacing or flashing from cwm recovery.
The phone has only been used 2 weeks so I'm covered by warranty I suppose.
Now who out there can give me a solution or point me to some forum that has some.
I had no problem with my old phone, i5700. Side by side, that finds and locks gps in 2 seconds from my balcony.
The phone is otherwise great, just that the GPS issue is giving it and Google a bad name

I've moved on from Liquid. Just Google file name, or try rootzwiki http://rootzwiki.com/topic/20429-aospliquidsmooth-ics-v14-rom-5182012/
GPS icon blinking is AGPS right?
No it is not blinking at any time.
I got hold of the GPS fix liquid 125.zip and flashed it, formatted cache and dalvik just to make sure. Was out 1 hour and nothing, no activity at all.

nope. the patch has not worked. gps has been on for the last 45 minutes. no satellites.
anybody else with any other solution?
try the GPS fix patch, AND the FasterFix app to select your location
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Double.FasterFix
I have tried that too and no luck with that too. Is there a secret code for GPS test?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
sorry to state the obvious - have you tried it outdoors?
If after all this it isn't working I'm sure it is safe to assume it is busted.
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
yes I have. On the roof, in my car. At the same time i have another Samsung phone, Spica which happens to lock in 3 seconds.
What happens now, is that the icon blinks, but no satellite

Hmmm, I still can't get it to work. I managed to get a searching icon for a bit and it disappeared again. I think that plus the failing update thing == me taking it back in the morning and getting a newer one from a different Best Buy. I tried clearing framework services and reverting the maps app multiple times and no go. Even standing out in the middle of the street at 3am trying to get it to lock.

I had the update fail, and my GPS was dead, too. Swapped it at Best Buy. New one had no update issues and GPS works great!
Can you do some extensive testing with the gps in the new exchanged one??? because I got gps working good on my tablet but after using it for awhile it like turns itself off, shows a searching for gps flashing icon at top left of screen and cannot lock on to satellites no more!

Hoping that will be my case too, just got back with a shiny new replacement, from a different store this time that just got their truck in and unloaded late last night. So hopefully I'm avoid the "bad best buy batch" lol.

Looks like I'm good to go, replacement has no screen issues (dust or pixels) and the update installed perfectly, GPS locked in about 15 seconds, mostly waiting for me to step out of the house I'm guessing.
My gps suddenly failed to lock on to any satellites when playing ingress, reboot fixed it

I've never had a device which locked on as fast as this Nexus 7. Its beautiful. Make sure the top of the device isn't being smothered by your hand because that degrades the signal received significantly.

Knock on Wood, I think I got the gps problems nipped in the butt!
I had to reset the tablet from system settings after having both updates installed, when setting up tablet (initial boot) enable all location stuff except for the new android 4.3 wifi location while off option.. Also make sure to disable backup and restore options while doing the initial install.
Now so far GPS has been working steadily ever since first initial boot, no need to reset and power up again and after trying it for an hour all gps apps back and forth its still finding signal sometimes instant sometimes 20 seconds or so but no issues like before this time...
Working like it should now! I guess a hard reset after all updates was needed to reconfigure things!
As long I only use Google Maps, the GPS locks consistently.
If I use other GPS apps (like GPS Status, Gas Buddy, etc.) then eventually the GPS gets into a state where it won't lock, ie the GPS in the status bar just blinks forever.
Reboot has fixed this every time.
When the JSS15J first installed, the GPS also wouldn't lock. I had to turn on WiFi/Mobile assistance for it to lock the first time. After that first lock, I could turn off WiFi/Mobile assistance and it would still lock on its own.

Yeah I did. No help. Got lost in Stanley Park trying to plot a bike route home, but at each turn I had no idea if I was in the right place. Twice ended up exactly where I started before giving up and walking the bike along a pedestrian path where biking wasn't allowed.
Tweaked the gps.conf as posted on another thread, better results now.

Ain't this like a regular question when:
- android update comes out
- every turn of the moon.
GPS lock is affected by many different circumstances, not just a software update.

That's ironic. Lately (the past few weeks), my G'nex loses the ability to get a lock in the evenings. The only way I've been able to get it to work is to disable Wi-Fi and/or 3G and let it do things "the hard way". But it's always gotten a lock in less than a minute. After this, I can re-enable the Internet and everything's fine.
Whereas with an internet connection it would sit at the "good signals from many sats but no lock" situation indefinitely.
This phone is really weird about GPS, and 4.3 hasn't made much difference. With all of my Garmins, getting a fix requires much less voodoo and luck.

That is clearly a defect. Whether the cause is in the phone or in the server providing the AGPS data, I cannot tell.
Samsung produces poor GPS quality anyway. For example, note how the Galaxy Nexus GPS fails in an airliner where a Nexus One or a Garmin device have no problem recording tracks. Or note how recorded tracks meander around the true track and make funny jumps.
It is very sad, because nearly everything else in the Galaxy Nexus is excellent.
No, this is typical google quality control
My Galaxy Nexux was working fine on Android 4.2.2 until upgrading to 4.3, after which the GPS stopped working.
Imagine Apple releasing updating for iOS and the GPS stopped working on the iPhone. Man! This would be prime-time news! And topic # 1 on Android forums. But Google constantly botching Android updates, jumping over existing problems by introducing new ones.
Google admitting there is a GPS problem with Android 4.3, and they are working on a fix.

I believe this is not just a Google problem. This is the Samsung junk!
Mine and my gf's GN both have the same problem, for a year, on any version, at any random moments.
After observing the satellite mapping and comparing it to a Huawei device, I realized it's Samsung's GPS receiver giving false readings that are WAY off. Sometimes algorithms can correct this, but other times they cannot...
So there is no cure, the only way is to get out of Samsung forever.

I tend to agree. The Samsung GPS appears to be crappy.
Note that it also fails in an airliner, once the plane gets up to speed. Even my old Google HTC Nexus One has no problem tracking in airliners.
