Hello, is it possible to reinstall ICS after 3.20 JB update ?
I would like to test something
Yes, you can flash any custom ICS roms AFAIK!
Don't forget to flash the boot.img via fastboot and wipe dalvik cache in recovery if you choose a custom rom
No i don't think it will work. You are probably not able to use the phone because the touchscreen won't respond because of the updated touchscreendrivers.
If its working, good ! If not then you have a chance of repacking a kernel
Edit :
Btw it will never work if you only wipe the cache and dalvik cache like Mr Thnder says. You MUST perform a FULL wipe before flashling a complete new rom

What's up guys? I been flashing roms for a while now, and I have yet to flash a kernel. I wanna flash this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421704
I'm not sure what steps I have to do to successfully flash a kernel, Can I flash it just like I would a rom in rom manager? Or do I need to flash it in fast boot???
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
Flash a kernel by going into CWM recovery, wipe dalvik cache and regular cache , install, done or I think you can do it from rom manager, been awhile, but I believe you can install while wiping dalvik
Edit: oops said rom instead of kernel XD
i have a unlocked & rooted galaxy nexus....i flash the rom open kang build 22 & flash the gapps 4.0.4 after i rebooted. i stocked in bootanimation & hang up & appear the google logo, always like that...cannot start.....HELP please....
Wipe and reflash the ROM then Gapps, then boot.
Did you do a full wipe. Wipe factory/data, cache partition and in the advanced menu wipe dalvik cache. Then flash rom and gapps
After you flash the rom, wipe data, cache, dalvik and flash gapps. You cant just flash rom than the 4.0.4 gapps you will get the bootloop.
i already do full wipe & still the same problem?
1. Wipe data
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe dalvik cache
4. Flash ROM
5. Flash Gapps
6. Reboot

In addition to doing what Eddy says, re-download the rom and Gapps.
Thanks for reply but still the same problem

I always flash like that never have a problem. Never reflash after flash. Try to flash another ROM OP to see if it was the ROM or not.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Thanks guys for all ur reply & time.......i already done all...its ok now, i use the wugfresh to flash stock & unroot and unlock & unroot again.Again Many Thanks
I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-1747) that is running stock with root.
I have rooted my phone using the samsung toolkit located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
Since that toolkit flashed a CWM Based recovery I have installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM Recovery version 6.0.1.2
My questions are..
- with my current setup.. am I technically running the "Stock" samsung kernel?
- why would you want to flash a different kernel to your phone?
- and is it necessary to flash a different kernel in order to use certain custom roms?
- At first I was leaning towards flashing CM10 nightly but the more I look at it.. I want to flash PARANOIDANDROID 2.22 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818199
Is this rom fully compatible with my AT&T phone? and since i'm running stock with root, do I need to do anything special before flashing this rom? Factory reset? Wipe Data? I've already made a full nandroid backup.
Thank you!
- with my current setup.. am I technically running the "Stock" samsung kernel? I believe so
- why would you want to flash a different kernel to your phone? Different kernels do different things.. some have better batter life.. some let you OC and UC..
- and is it necessary to flash a different kernel in order to use certain custom roms?Well sometimes.. Well technically.. most kernels will work with most of the ROMS out there.. as long as you stay withing your phones threads.. But some ROMs have a kernal with them.. and some ROMS you need to flash your own kernel..

Thank you for the reply.
On the rom i'm wanting to flash for my SGH-i747 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818199
The steps for flashing are as follows:
CWM: Install Zip: Rom: Download Here Make sure the file you download is PA-2.22-d2att.zip
CWM: Install Zip: Gapps: Download (These are the new ones)
CWM: Wipe Data/Factory Reset
CWM: Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot and edit your Apps Dpi & Layout under Settings/Paranoid Settings - DO NOT RESTORE YOUR OLD PROPERTIES FOR NOW
Would i need to wipe data, factory reset, then also wipe dalvik cache BEFORE I install the rom and gapps since i'm running stock with root?
Thank you
i'm also reading that for paranoidandroid you must first flash CM10 then flash paranoid.. is this accurate?
umm.. not sure where you saw that you need to flash a CM rom before flashing the paranoid ROM..
I believe the Paranoid rom is based off CM
The instruction on the link you have, in my opinion, is wrong..
The way that i flash my roms is...
Wipe data/factory reset..
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Format/Data
Fomat/System ( i think deletes backups) only do in emergency.aka optional step
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps.
THATS IT
Some people will wipe cache afer flashing a rom..
But if you wipe data/factory reset i believe deletes the ROM...

If you are already running CM10 then you don't need to wipe Cache. Just dalvik and data. Im pretty sure thats what was confusing, since this is based off of CM10.

yeah, I just keep reading and reading.. probably making this out to be more difficult than it really is just don't want to end up with a brick or anything.
I'm already on stock + root + latest CWM so I just need to put the files on my phone and flash but I believe these are the steps i need to take:
1- Download ROM and Gapps to internal sd card
2- Boot phone into recovery
3- WIPE Cache/Delvik/Data factory reset> Mounts and Storage- format system
4- Flash ROM and Gapps
Hey guys,
since a few weeks now i have some problems if i flash new kernels on sense based roms.
Always if i flash a new kernel WIFI/Signal/GPS does not work...
On AOSP/CM10/AOKP everything works fine.
I also tested some new radios, currently im on 5.1204.162A.29 and on hboot 1.36 (CID VODAP120)
Does someone know how to fix that?
Greets Gingerbread
/Edit: I also tried to set APN manually but it doesnt work...
Which ROM are you on currently?
If you flash an AOSP kernel on a Sense ROM, it might break something and vice-versa.... hence the problem...
And after flashing the boot.img via fastboot, you also have to flash the modules via recovery and then wipe cache/dalvic!

I have absolutely no idea about MIUI.. I only know this much that you have to flash a sense kernel... Does it need repack? No clue! Wait for some other person to reply or ask in the MIUI thread...
However, you shouldn't boot into your ROM after flashing the boot.img
1. fastboot flash boot boot.img
2. fastboot erase cache
3. Go to recovery and wipe cache partition and wipe dalvic
4. Flash modules.zip
5. Reboot

Hmmm... try wiping cache and dalvic... Reboot...
Ask ROM related issues in the ROM thread m8! there you will get more accurate answers from the other MIUI users and developer!
The problem is its on all sense roms...
Only on AOSP/CM10/AOKP roms everything works fine.

sorry for the noob question what is dirty flash
Flashing a rom without wiping /data first. A "filthy" flash would be to flash without wiping even cache and Dalvik
You can dirty flash between minor version updates of the same rom. Whenever you flash a major update (let's say from bestromever JB 4.3 based to bestromever JB 4.4 based) or if you flash a rom from a different developer you need a clean flash, meaning you need to wipe data, cache and Dalvik in your custom recovery.
If in doubt: clean flash
